Excellent Album.......2006-12-28
What more can you expect from Sister Hazel? Every album I have purchased seems to become my favorite. Love all the songs, especially "Happy". I recommend this album to anyone young or old.
timeless "put you in a great mood" beachhouse music.......2006-05-20
This thing is a work of art. Every summer since this album came out in '97 I get S.M.F. out and It immmediately puts a smile on peoples faces. This is an album you can play at a great early evening Avalon Deck Party/Cookout. Starfish is a fantatic jam song. Cereline is soulful. and well...All for You is a powerhouse singalong. These guys have another album released in 2002/03 called "Chasing Daylight" that is nearly as perfect if you need a pickup and a smile. get em both and see em live.
Sister Hazel ---Sleeper Band.......2006-01-03
If you have never heard Sister Hazel, you are in for a treat. Soulful music that speaks to everyone's heart. And if you have never seen them in concert, you are surely missing out. There is an energy in this band that revives the weary soul. Imagine 6000 people singing every song at the top of their lungs.
Sister Hazel is an Everyman band. I challenge you to find one song that does not truly move you or that you cannot relate with.
My vote is to put this band on the cover of Rolling Stone!
This Is Familiar.......2005-09-24
Yeah! Hazelnuts rocks and so does this cd. This cd is for people who like folk rock and if you're looking for a great folk rock album this one's it. Their message and vibe are powerfully attractive. I'm not gonna fool yeah there are a couple of skippers, if your new to this. If you keep listening to it a couple times through you'll eventually love the album.
A whole disc.......2004-09-22
Usually one or two albums a year make to an elite status on my CD rack -- this is one of them. This CD isn't anything ground-breaking, but it is one of those rare albums where every song is solid. A great CD to listen to from start to finish -- which is what makes it rare and elite.
Sister Hazel is a band certainly worthy of picking up an album or two.

Album Description
A beautiful collection of great Jewish Music. Classics by Ernest Bloch and Max Bruch, mixed with rarely heard gems by Maurice Ravel, Zavel Zilberts, Jacob Wasilkovsky, and David Meyerowitz. "Wie Shlecht es is Ohn Gelt", a Yiddish Theatre gem, is alone worth the price of admission for its mixture of pathos and humor. The songs by Zilberts are an important and beautiful part of the Jewish music legacy that must be heard.
Customer Reviews:
"Beautiful"? More like "funereal". Very dark and depressing........2007-07-12
"Beautiful"? I did not find anything about this music "beautiful". Most of it is very dark and depressing. A few of the songs sound like something you would hear in a horror movie. Now I know why they do not provide samples to listen to. The only two songs I found pleasant to listen to were "Zilberts: Reb Dovid'l" and "Meyerowitz: Gelt (Wie Shlecht es is Ohn Gelt)". I am very disappointed. Admittedly, I purchased this CD without really knowing what to expect. I just trusted the previous reviews. Try to find samples to listen to before you purchase this CD to see if you like this kind of music.
BEAUTIFUL!!.......2006-01-07
I love this CD and have bought several for friends. Music is so very beautiful. Toda raba!!!!
Encore! Encore!.......2004-01-13
Perhaps no other instrument captures the sad-sweet contemplative mood of classical Jewish music like a cello. Is this because so many Jewish composers have written for the cello, that we think of it as a "Jewish" instrument? Or did they choose the cello because it sings so beautifully of the Jewish soul? Like the chicken and the egg, this question may never be answered -- but it doesn't really matter. This superb music is an important part of our Jewish legacy in its own right.
On this CD, cellist Richard Locker, accompanied by Susan Walters on piano, brings together 12 classical Jewish pieces, some well-known and others not so, in an absolutely magnificent performance -- so beautiful, that it literally brought tears to my eyes. The CD starts out with a niggun (Hasidic tune) by Ernest Bloch, then moves into to the dark, somber strains of Max Bruch's "Kol Nidre." From there it rises in mood, to end with a playful Yiddish theater piece, "Wie schecht is ohne Gelt" (How awful it is to be without money!) Included is the rarely heard "Meditation Hebraique" by Bloch, which he dedicated to Pable Casals, and a trio of pieces by the lesser-known composer, Zavel Zilberts (1881-1949), who directed the Choral Society of New York and played with the Metropolitan Opera. All of this is performed on a cello made by Nicolo Gagliano, dated 1780. To hear such a fine old instrument played by a talented, sensitive musician is truly a mechayah! (pleasure)
Superb!.......2003-12-05
I recently received this CD as a gift and was simply overwhelmed by how beautiful it is. The music, the playing, and the recording are all stunning. The interpretations of the well known works are magnificent and the pieces by Zilberts and Meyerowitz are a revelation. I cannot recommend this recording highly enough.
A superb collection.......2002-11-17
Jewish Cello Masterpieces is magnificent! This is a soulful performance by a true cello master. I look forward to more work from Richard Locker!

In 2000 Oasis wisely dispensed with theatrics and concentrated on being the world's greatest stadium-sized pub-rock band. And so, with just three mammoth video walls in tow, they toured the world. Big as the video screens were, however, the band's straight-ahead rock and Liam Gallagher's mouth were even bigger, and contributed much to the drama, tension, and entertainment of the tour behind Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. Fine examples of both were recorded when they played Wembley Stadium. Musically, Oasis make good on their claims to be the biggest and the best with rocking versions of "Supersonic," "Shakermaker," "Cigarettes & Alcohol," and "Live Forever." As for Liam, Familiar to Millions wouldn't be half the album it is had his inane ramblings, brotherly abuse, and audience taunts been edited out. That's where the real live atmosphere lies--there and in the sound of 70,000 fans singing the choruses of "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger." --Dan Gennoe
Customer Reviews:
"Hello, Manchester!!!".......2006-04-05
It was July 2000, Oasis played Wembley Stadium in London for two nights in a row. The heat was on, the expectations were high, and the thousands of fans that crammed the famous soccor field were "mad for it!" Everything was going good; Oasis were and still are the biggest band in England with a timeless influence on most of the bands coming out of America and Europe today, and they were to take the stage by storm, but there was one too many problems: Liam had just broken up with his then wife actress Patsi Kensit, was seriously drunk, and Noel wasn't talking to him. The effects of all of the above are evident on this recording.
Liam greets the fans as soon as he steps onstage after the intro of F**kin' In The Bushes fades out with a hammering comment at Wembley Stadium, calling it a 'sh*thole', before sarcastically and hilariously saying "Hello, Manchester!" which is welcomed with a few boos from the crowd and a giggle from Noel. After that, the music plays on with a collection of their most recent singles from their 2000 album Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants: the handraiser Go Let It Out and the soothing Who Feels Love, before venturing into a string of greatest hits, in no order: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Live Forever, Stand By Me, Roll With It, Champagne Supernova, and Supersonic. In between songs, Liam and Noel are heard commenting with and at the crowd ("This is for all the people in the front row..." as Liam presents a song), the lighting operator ("...turn the f**kin' light off!" as Noel scorns the poor fellow), and each other ("Let's have a couple more of these songs, Noel...write a couple more of these babies!" as Liam presents Supersonic). The highlights on Familiar To Millions are the cover versions of The Beatles' Helter Skelter (taken from the US tour), and Neil Young's Hey Hey My My (which Noel sings with a passion), and the B-side Step Out (which is an underrated Noel sung number).
Familiar To Millions may not be the best live album ever released; in my opinion, it is not (Liam's tired voice is enough to convince me). But the Gallagher brothers manage to make it unintentionally entertaining and funny at times.

Well done (to the crowd).......2005-10-15
Ive always been a big fan of oasis but they really let themselves down here. This was an opportunity to perform a memorable, energetic and musical show, well it was certainly memorable.
The whole thing with getting the crowd singing along and adding in guitar solos that just seem to go on froever isnt what oasis are capable of, and to put it on an album...
I also cannot believe the songs they put on there, or didnt put on. There are tracks such as "Gas Panic!" and "Who feels love?" whos ever heard of this crap more like. "Supersonic" "Stand by me" and "Live Forever" are probably the only songs worthy of being on there, seeing as Champagne Supernova and Cigarettes and Alcohol are delivered so poorly.
This album is missing many of the bands greatest and underrated songs, such as, "Morning Glory" and "Rock and Roll star", instead they insist on playing them boring, repetitive songs that everyone associates with oasis because they're too thick to notice the decent tracks, how many times have we heard "Dont look back in anger" and "Wonderwall" (which incidentally arent done by oasis on this album, but half of the drunken crowd) far too many times, so you dont have to put them on an album.
Dont waste your money.
Lay off the cigarettes, Liam.......2005-10-13
Instrumentally, Oasis is still a tight band, and Noel's vioce still sounds good, (his cover version of Neil Young's "Hey Hey My My" is a highlight) but damn Liam really sounds like he just woke up after a rough night. They rush their way through "Wonderwall" like they're bored with it, and their version of Champagne Supernova also sounds weak voiced. Now some times the ragged effect does work, versions of "Stand by Me", "Live Forever" and "Cigarettes and Alcohol" are still pretty rousing.
Liam is still up to his onstage shenanigans, asking the girls in the audience to show some breasts, leading the crowd in chanting his name, pointing out to Noel that he finally got all the words to "Roll With It" right in mid-song, giving the people in the front row a hard time, complaining about the lighting and stage props, and even giving Noel yet another hard time, "you should write more songs like this Noel." Implying that he hasn't been writing songs like that lately. But he makes a conciliatory gesture, to Noel at least later when he praises the lyrics for "Gas Panic".
They're still a very fun band live and a tight band musicianship-wise at least anyway. Now if they could just get Liam to behave himself... ah screw that, then they wouldn't be so much fun. Just stick to the alcohol, Liam, and leave the cigarettes alone.
"Nobody knows / the way it's gonna be.".......2005-07-05
Most of Oasis' greatest songs are on here, and they sound just the way you'd expect live: amazing. Don't Look Back in Anger is, if possible, even better than the studio version; the band goes insane on Supersonic and Shakermaker; only Champagne Supernova seems to lose some of its eerie grace with the more rough-around-the-edges live sound. Of course, Liam acts out a bit: it's hard to catch what he's saying most of the time, but it's quite amusing when you do.
"This is for all the people in the front row...no not you...nor you guys...alright, maybe you. And you."
Even songs that were less than classic in the studio, like Roll With It, get a boost from the live energy - on that particular number, Liam now advises us not to let "any f*****" get in our way.
And while the band is great, the audience is impressive in their own right:
-There's a moment during the first verse of Wonderwall when they suddenly sounds like the world's biggest gospel choir.
-Such is Liam's faith in them that he even lets them take the whole chorus of Don't Look Back in Anger - and even though it comes through a bit muted, it's pretty incredible.
Finally, Liam's weary take on Stand By Me, supported by the always-enthusiastic audience, has to rank among the most affecting pieces of music ever recorded. It's just so - _romantic_.
Very good live album........2005-05-16
Taken from the standing on the shoulder of giants tour at Wembley 2000.
Its a very loud and rocky performance, and theres no acoustic guitars used, even wonderwall is done on an electric.
Theres also some great covers of Neil youngs "hey hey mymy " by Noel gallygally and "Helter Skelter"
Laims voice is quite rough and raspy which adds a nice "real" and "rock n roll" sound to all the songs.

Best CD I Own.......2006-07-16
The sound quality of this instrument surpasses all instruments worldwide. You can hear a pin drop extremely clearly in the tabernacle the instrument is housed, making the pipe organ a highly effective sound producer. The larger 32' pipes sound just like thunderous power. A must buy for organists and organ enthusiasts.

So Very Fresh.......1999-05-22
These guys had me from the first note of the first song, "How Does It Feel." The tunes flow easily from the group. Hooks are everywhere, especially on the above track and "I Don't Want to Be Here Now." When a major label picks these guys up I'll be able to say, "Told you so." Plus, they're just nice guys. I can't wait for the new record.
WOW.......1999-05-08
Great great album, rural pop? call what you want, I call it good. To bad the morons in the band had to ruin their chemistry with the "release" of Drummer Shawn Lynch. The next album will not hold up, but I will always have this one.
Lou Ford has deep roots but is not held down by them........1998-08-05
Lou Ford has roots that run deep, but they refuse to be held down by them. Their debut album, ÒSad but FamiliarÓ echoes the soulful mourning of Hank Williams with the biting harmonies of Neil Young, yet surrounds you in a vibrant, new musical world. Lou FordÕs music is not a retrospective pastiche, but is alive with originality both in tone and word. The lyrics enchant with wit understated by plain language and rural flair. The music and lyrics blend mesmerizingly; mingling angst and ennui with rural idealism. To listen to Lou Ford is to take an emotional road trip through the past with tomorrow square on the horizon. Lou Ford is a group of four genuine and hard-working guys committed to innovation and musical excellence as well as preserving the traditions of american music. Any serious music lover will want to check out ÒSad but FamiliarÓ as well as look for Lou Ford on stage in Charlotte, NC and around the southeast.

This is a great album.......2005-05-18
I have had this album since 2004, and it hardly ever leaves my cd player. This is a great album. The songs are well written. A few favorites are The Question and I Know, and the lead singer as a great voice. This band reminded me of a cross between Matchbox 20 and Creed. This album ROCKS!!
I recently read that the band is no longer together, but the Jay is going to releas a solo album. Can't wait!!
Great Band, Great CD.......2005-03-25
Wow! This is a great album. These guys aren't mainstream but, they should be. This band has potential to be a great. I would recommend this album to anyone who is into alternative rock or is just open to listening to new music. Familiar 48, rock on. Peace out.
wonderful something.......2003-11-21
This is a great cd. I remember seeing these guys when they were called "Bonehead". My only gripe with this cd is that they changed the way "I know" sounds, I liked the version on their demo "Fade" better. If you can find their demo you will hear what I mean. I definetly think these guys are winners, can't wait their next cd.
One of the best Emo CDs out there.......2003-06-21
This is honestly my favorite Emo CD. The lyrics are amazing and really come from the heart. A combination of good music and catchy choruses make this such a good album from start to finish. They use a perfect blend of acoustic and electric, something you can listen to over and over. Personal favorites include: Place of You, Endings, and I Know. Nothing can beat the heartfelt emotions of Familiar 48.
i must admit,.......2003-06-03
the first time i heard the tracks from this album, i hastily branded it as a typical alternative rock band... but then, i thought it unfair of me to just think of it like that without giving it a second chance, so i sat back, replayed it, and guess what?! i found it really amazing! i guess what i'm trying to say is that Wonderful Nothing is not an album that when you first hear its songs, you'll already see it for what it really is... this cd has great potential in making it to the top. the tracks are awesome, and each and every one has its own unique quality and depth of words... also, the melodies are great. too bad the group already disbanded or they would have made dozens more like this amazing album cause i'm telling you, this kind of music is definitely worth it!

Stunning.......2004-05-02
If it wasn't for the night --
so cold this time of year
The stars would never shine so bright
so beautiful and clear . . .
So starts David Wilcox's most hauntingly beautiful release to date. Filled with spiritual longing and wisdom, this is a beautiful sounding and beautifully written and beautifully performed CD.
The overall tone of this CD is fairly mellow, but the underlying musicianship shows an intricacy that is stunning, especially on repeated listens, which is what you will want to do when you encounter this almost perfect release.
what happened to the voice?.......2004-01-19
I have been so thankful for the existence of David Wilcox for years now. I find it very difficult to find music I really and consistently like and David has provided that. I've seen him in concert almost more than James Taylor and I don't go to many concerts. I recently pulled out the CD for another listen and actually felt a little physically ill. The gradual introduction of Christianity and the strained, increasingly breathy quality of his voice leaves me feeling restless and annoyed. Pitch even suffers on this album. I find myself yearning for him to sing out with a full voice. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm not sure I'll buy the next one and I own every album he ever produced. Sing out, David, and keep it so everyone can relate to your lyrics.
An Excellent Work.......2003-12-10
To start off, let me say that the musical craftsmanship on this album is outstanding. In my opinion, Dave has reached back and rediscovered the intricate, strong style he displayed on his first two albums. Backed by excellent musicians (including an almost unmentioned Phil Keaggy on bass) and fine production values, Wilcox's melodies jump out and take hold of the listener.
Lyrically, the album is probably the most spiritual of Dave's work. Many of the songs make allusions or outright references to Dave's continuing journey of faith including the title track, "If It Wasn't for the Night" and "Native Tongue". There are, however, other ideas explored, including the beauty of a child's view of the world on "Radio Man".
I recommend this album without reservation. It is an excellent alternative to much of what passes for music as offered by the mainstream music industry.
Great album - Thought provoking, insightful..........2003-04-18
This is a classic David Wilcox album...all of this music comes from his heart, from a deeper place than even some of his previous deep music. As usual, his playing is great (Phil Keaggy plays bass on some of the pieces...is that cool or what?!) But it's always his lyrics that keep me coming back for more. Plus he signed my head when I was bald, so how could I not adore him?!
not his strongest work, by far.......2003-04-16
Usually, David's CD's take a few listens to really take hold. Only "How Did You Find Me Here" grabbed me from the first song. The music here sounds too familiar. The lyrics...maybe the metaphorical thing has gotten out of hand. Oh, there are a few memorable tracks, but overall, I was disappointed. (and I'm a die-hard DW fan)

Informed by a vintage Hollywood production sheen and flashback-fueled, identity-questioning melodramatics worthy of Hitchcock, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's sexually-charged film was quickly hailed as a mature masterpiece. The film's classic Hollywood conceits are deep-rooted, and Iberian composer Alberto Iglesias reinforces the film's often retro mood via a brooding, classically oriented score with an ear towards history. It may briefly excerpt Rossini's "Kyrie" to haunting effect, but the touchstone here is the Bernard Herrmann of Hitchcock's prime, with an emphasis on their epochal Vertigo and especially the tense, dark strings of Psycho (which "Escena Familiar" and "Cine Olimpo" echo with haunting grace). But while Iglesias capably evokes the color and spirit of those iconic touchstones, he crucially does it without sacrificing his own identity. Evocations of Spanish culture come mostly via vintage performances of "Quiza, Quiza, Quiza," "Cuoro Matta" and others, but on the expansive "Puerta Finale" the composer skillfully interweaves his Herrmann influences with touches of mournful jazz, flamenco and "Kyrie"'s choral echoes, creating a compelling, oft chilling post-modern new whole. -- Jerry McCulley

Even better than the film.......2004-11-21
Alberto Iglesias did it again, a wonderful soundtrack!
His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.
Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an innuendo of the ugly fact of sexual violations. However, if you didn't see the movie, the "moon river" will be a pure pleasant enjoyment.
Compared to the slightly weak movie, the music itself is powerful and flawless. From the beginning to the end, it doesn't have a single dull moment. In a word, buy this awesome CD!
The Starving Crocodiles... .......2004-11-17
The Starving Crocodiles
Almodovar's latest movie is undoubtedly his best, and a very inventive film-noir that absorbs and electrifies you from the very beginning. Alberto Iglesias' score serves "as a cradle where the movie rests" as the auteur himself said.
La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is one of -if not- the best soundtrack composed this year, and its style is absolutely magnificent. Following the film-noir trend, Iglesias' score is a mixture of tunes a la Herrman ("Juan y el Sr. Berenguer", "Por mi grandisima culpa", "Escena Familiar"), poignant waltzes ("Foulard en seda", "La Carta", "Valsetto"), and vocalized cues that reflect the theme of the movie, and illustrate it fittingly ("Kyrie", "La piscina", "El cine como espejo"). "Cine Olympo", an exquisite theme for the movie-within-the-movie manifests itself disguisedly many times, in variations, as Iglesias' has done in previous scores where a parallel story is narrated - The Flower of my Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, and All About my Mother- however the best track in the score is the "Overture". Other superb tracks are "Carta del mas alla", "Plato", and "Adagietto"... melodies that crave lust, but "Puerta Final" -the MAIN theme- is absolutely grand; probably the best potpourri of songs written in the last decade, that will grab you by the horns from the moment it opens to the last saxophone refrain, in an orgasm of eight minutes that you will want to experience over and over again.
The soundtrack also consists of key songs that in one way or another relate to the main characters and the story: "Maniqui Parisien", "Cuore Matto", "Moon River" (a very avant-garde arrangement), and "Jardinero".
Alberto Iglesias has composed a score so dark, rich, hunting, powerful, and mysterious... that proves to be irresistible.
Experience the Bad Education!!!

a good combination of great songs. The choir's voices are sweet and melancholy. If you enjoy the old folk songs, you'll enjoy this cd.
