Fall in, funketeers: the first soundtrack to "Class of 3000," the Cartoon Network show executive-produced by Andre 3000 of OutKast, mashes up a melange of beats and styles so beautifully conceived, so inner-city cool, that parents who once grooved to the "Fat Albert" gang will find themselves in thrall (cartoons able to make the grade with school-age kids while putting across a message happen once every 30 years, apparently). Here we have the whole "3000" crew cutting up to Andre, a.k.a. Sunny Bridges', whip-smart concoctions--Li'l D, Kim and Kam, Tamika, Madison, Philly Phil, and Edward trade the spotlight on weird but wickedly fun tracks like "Banana Zoo," "Oh Peanut," and "We Want Your Soul." The messages seep through, but in the end the grooves matter most. Future funkers of America, take note. And tune in immediately. --Tammy La Gorce

Sometimes Canadian pop music is virtually indistinguishable from the flavor made in the U.S., while at other times it seems like it could just as easily be the latest sound emanating from Poland's hit parade. Bran Van 3000, a Montréal-based (and largely anglophone, thank you) musical collective whose 1997 debut album Glee has already gone gold up north, fluctuates between those two sensibilities. Led by filmmaker/video director James Di Salvio, Bran Van 3000 have just the combination of innocence and contrivance, knowing indulgence and dumb charm to make the U.S. release of Glee into a very hip (relatively speaking) afterschool special.
The key selling point here is light-hearted eclecticism, and there's plenty of it: Bran Van have their way with hip-hop and reggae, metal, pop, and soul, and--perhaps most self-consciously--country as well as techno (try the drum & bass/country song "Willard," or the trip hop & western "Supermodel").
While Glee nods to '80s artists as predictably disparate as Quiet Riot and The The, its most interesting reference points draw from more recent history. "Couch Surfer," an ode to being a penniless moocher, and "Drinking in L.A.," about wasting time in southern California, take us back to the glorious slackerific days of "I'm a loser baby...," complete with white rapping and a sampler/live instrument concoction. In at least one way, Glee is truly a work of prescience: It's undoubtedly the first recorded document of the inevitable Early '90s revival. --Roni Sarig
Customer Reviews:
Awful Noise.......2005-11-18
This album is some of the worst noise ever recorded. The only good (and radio-friendly) song is "Everywhere". Every other track is horrible, horrible noise. It's basically a patchwork of samples that don't even make 'music' when put together. I would give it one-third of 1 star. After I forced myself to listen to the entire thing, I gave it to my dog to go bury in the backyard. For the love of God, don't waste your time!!
Just amazin`.......2005-01-08
Well, I heard Drinking in LA, the single once it went out, and it was ok, not really liked it by that time, but normal. Somehow, a friend gave me the CD (Glee) to listen to it, and at firts i just tried it like two times, i`m not the kind of person who listen to everything, i really enjoy music but i do not have doors opened for everything on the market.
One day i was driving nowhere and put the cd, and somehow i felt so full of this energy, because from the firts song i heard till the most strangely made end, it was just amazing the way this group of people made possible the mix of many different styles in music, and make it sound just amazing.
Guess is one of the records you should keep and save to show to next generations and say: "Hey, this is music".
Ultimate music experience.......2004-06-20
I just bougth the cd 'cos I lost my "drinking in L.A." version, altough it was hard to find, GLEE absolutely does it for me. The way the cd is mixed (country, house, hip-hop, eclectic) is amazing. This is truly by far the best cd I've ever bougth. I just hope we could get more "out of trend" music, you know, not everything shown on MTV is art.
like putting rock, rap, country, pop.... in a blender.......2004-04-22
all i can say is.... excellent!!!! from the begining to the end. Its one of my favorites!!!!
A Mixed Bag.......2004-01-20
This record is difficult to review. Bran Van 3000 create interesting, original music, melting a lot of diverse styles in one album. "Glee" combines pop, hip hop, rock, electronica, country and easy listening (I probably forgot something), and as a whole is works as an unique, weird, flawed yet addictive effort. Each song here is quite different from one another, the band has male and female vocalists and at times there are some filler moments. When it`s good, it`s really good, like the lo-fi pop of "Problems", the absorbing "Rainshine" or the chaos presented in "Forest". "Old School", "Willard" and "Mama Don`t Smoke", however, would do better as b-sides.
"Glee" is an eclectic mix, a bit too long and pointless at parts but with enough moments of brilliance to make it a recommended debut of the late 90`s. 3,5 stars.

Album Description
"[Los Amigos Invisibles] has taken the rhythmic sass in salsa, the bass-heavy fun in funk, and even the note-bending bile in acid-jazz, and mixed it all up to produce an infectious beat. [They] have put the joy back into dancing, sending a warm current into the cold alienating waters of industrial strength techno." - LA Weekly
"We're a dance band," says Jose Luis Pardo, the guitarist for Los Amigos Invisibles. Tuned into groove culture from Detroit to London to Tokyo -- thanks to the Internet and a busy tour schedule -- the Amigos began work on their new album AREPA 3000: A VENEZUELAN JOURNEY INTO SPACE with a disco sensibility. Admiring French DJ/producers the band sought a heavier house sound in contrast to the retro and lounge elements of THE NEW SOUND OF THE VENEZUELAN GOZADERA. "The lounge thing sounds more Japanese," says Jose Luis. "The house sound is fresher, the disco songs we do sound more like that. The album is more electronic in certain ways."
Since their ground-breaking US debut the Amigos have lived a double life. In their hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, they've hosted underground club nights for years (the most recent called 'Super Sancocho Variety'). Then, insouciant single-entendre songs like "Sexy" and the doggy-style anthem "Ponerte En Cuatro" landed them on MTV and radio, and before long, the six young men found themselves pop idols. It wasn't hard, but their hearts remain on the dance floor and in the clubs.
Customer Reviews:
The perfect blend of funk, salsa and a great sense of humor.......2007-07-13
Arepa is the name of a food that serves as a substitute of bread in Venezuela. Arepa 3000 is the third release of the Venezuelan super-band Los Amigos Invisibles.
Los Amigos, which had already scored big time with their previous two albums (the second of which was already recorded under Luaka Bop, David Byrne's label), did it again, but spicing up their "musica sabrosa" with a great sense of humor. Although it will be even funnier to people originally from Venezuela, you'll love the sections of people (famous comedians, horse race narrators and radio talk show hosts) speaking between songs. Specially contagious are the very tropical "Mami Te Extrano" (Honey, I miss you) and "Llegaste Tarde" (You arrived late).
Still, seven years after its original release, the album retains all its flavor and fun, much like all their other works, kicking aside language barriers. With Los Amigos Invisibles, you CAN'T go wrong: from their first work, A Typical Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band to their 2006 release, Superpop Venezuela, they've managed to combine music and fun in a way few other bands anywhere else can. Compralo y gozalo! (Buy it and enjoy it)
Disclaimer: Unless you get easily offended by sexually-suggestive song titles or explicit lyrics, there's no way on earth you'll dislike Amigos Invisible's first 21st century musical creation: Arepa 3000.
Good Music.......2007-05-13
If you like the latin beat and instruments this is a good choice, smooth and sexy.
Not What I Expected.......2006-08-10
I expected the CD to be better than it actually was. I first heard cuchi-cuchi and i loved the song, so i thought the other songs on the CD would be energetic like that one. It wasn't a bad CD though. I'd say 40% of the songs were worth listening to.
Nice music.......2006-07-24
These guys have a real sense of music. The mix a lot of genres and the final result is a very delicious music.

Customer Reviews:
are you a tramp like that? are you born to run?.......2002-06-06
Bran Van 3000's 1998 album Glee was hailed by many to be a great pastiche of genres, and I'll give it that. There are a lot of different sounds piled in there, but the problem I had was that it felt like it was darker than it should have been. It's hard to explain it, but it sounded like there was a happy album wanting to get out there, but the band was feeling too bitter to let it fly, and there's a number of pointless interludes and boring songs thrown in there. Discosis, I was pleasantly surprised to hear, lets everything go. The six-minute opener dispelled any fears I had of more cumbersome rock and rapping. The Bran Van guys found some old vocal track that Curtis Mayfield recorded, but never used, and somehow got the rights to use it in their own song. So they made a whole song for the Curtis track! The music is just what you would expect when you think of the word "discosis." It's really dancey, has dramatic strings segments, is slickly produced, and it sounds like it's basically swirling all around you. The Bran Van girls is even back Curtis up on the chorus, "All I wanna do is love you / I just wanna take you there." And no less than four minutes into it, what sounds like a couple of Cuban guys take over the vocal duties in their own language, while someone goes absolutely wild on a flute solo. This is the song for the your party mix.
Although their first album sounded unbalanced at times, this one bearly misses a beat. The songs are packed together and even though their throw the genres around, the songs all have a similar type of sound to them. Also, as with the first album, they recycle vocal tracks using them on more than one track. So we actually get a preview of "Senegal" in "Montreal" and a reprise of the Cuban singers in "Discosis." It's a really effective way of making the album more cohesive. Oh, and if you noticed, there's a whole slew of special guests brimming with indie credentials. Bran Van 3000 has always been more like a collective than a band with people coming and going as they please, so this all fits in fine. Loop Me" is a sultry space-accented lounge kind of song, although I think it goes without saying that anything the Bran Van girls sing turns out sultry. Their voices are perfectly fit for an album like this, with of its tongue-in-cheek disco stylings. The "Loaded" and "Speed" combination is another in the natural progression of things idea. "Loaded" is sung by the girls and is basically about partying and drinking a lot. "Speed" is like the antithesis, a beautiful acoustic-turned-rock-turned-rap song from the same girl, except it looks like she needs someone to put some excitement in her life. ("So hold on / Take me with you! / Hold on / My soul is on!") She wants to ride someone's motorbike, and this other guy starts rapping and it turns into a sort of quasi-conversation. As the song moves along, the music seems to gradually build and speed up until at the end the guy is yelling "New Jersey girl! / We gonna ride around! / New Jersey girl / New Jersey sun!" It's really just a wonderful song.
Globe-hopping, genre-plundering, tongue-in-cheek and bringing it all back to the nightclub. It doesn't get any more cosmopolitan than Bran Van. Oh, yeah, and what's most amazing: They're Canadian.
Dissapointing.......2002-04-10
Its weird to see how after such an amazing and weird project like Glee, BV3000 comes out and does a pop/disco/reggae cd with no experimental tendencies whatsoever. This CD redefines BV3k's style under a "popish" label. IT is not that they did pop songs, but that they worked and reworked and used the same technique in most of their songs, which are, in some sort and to a great extent, a derivation of "everywhere" from their first album. Apart from that they have managed to distinguish themselves in an area that human kind has no knowledge of. So this record could be put in the section of i dont know what kind of music this is beacause it has too many styles BV3k style.
That is what BV3000 is about. About breaking barriers and having no classification, but in my opinion they could have accomplished that without tryng to do more commercial stuff.
Maybe if they had not collaborated with that many people they wouldnt have been influenced to make such a wacky yet flawed record.
In my opinion, my main frontman has gotten hooked on his own technique of weirdness... he needs to layoff the mic, and stop listening to music for a while. Clear out his head...
If the band tries to do something not so bv3k next time, and try something new and keep it constant for a record, the following album will kick rears for these are talented and creative people...
a juicy curl set goes well with discosis.......2002-03-29
With an album as scattered as glee coming from apparently more of an unformed collective than a solid group I was expecting a big sophomore slump in discosis. I was too curious to resist the purchase and the album has been playing constantly since. The Curtis Mayfield track is a fantastic song and I wish had been more of a hit, the sexy crooning that is not afraid to be fancy is such a nice change of pace from all the soundalike gutteral voice rock bands howling around. Also it sets a nice tone that the rest of the album holds up except for one or two tracks (I am thinking "The answer" and "loaded" specifically) Overall this album is not a simple rehash of glee material, there are certainly more real songs here, and some stunning moments in "More Shopping" & "montreal" which ends in a chant that loops back again later in the album. Very impressive -
buy glee and save your money on this one.......2002-01-11
The stupid club beats get annoying, but i suppose that's what they were trying to get across.....their first album was great, but the only song i care for on this is 'rock star' all in all it doesnt seem as diverse as the first one
BV3 evolution does not disappoint.......2001-11-22
A welcome relief for those of us who wondered where BV3 would go after GLEE. This one will not disappoint. On first listen the songs are less approachable than the feel good tunes from the first albumn. And while I won't be giving this one away to all my friends and family it will certainly become one of the treasures in my collection.

This divertingly arch, multi-kulti hodge-podge plays like a soundtrack for an imaginary Latin nightclub with a selectively demented door policy. The essence of Sergio Mendes trips in first, trailed by a rap that emerges from under a '70s disco conceit swathed in silky choirs and cheesy synths. Brazilian Tropicalismo via Caetano Veloso bumps butts with a naive pop organ riff that London hipsters circa 1968 would recognize, until the congas lash out and the whole thing turns into vintage Santana. Later, a "Super Freak" funk recollection retreats in the face of "Cool Jerk" and then morphs into drum & bass before a Tuvan throat singer clone makes the scene and Alvin the Chipmunks usher in a high-octane merengue. Meanwhile, muttered asides and electronic crackles intrude like a berserk broadband radio. A Spanish-language P-Funk silliness is in play throughout, but refracted through a lounge sensibility. --Christina Roden

awesome.......2006-06-30
I heard one of their songs on a tv couple weeks ago. Loved it so much I went to find it on line to buy it. After just listening to this CD only once I ordered another CD of theirs. I do not speak or understand one word of spanish and have no clue what I am even singing but the music obviously crosses over. I would tell anyone who is into funk or dance of any form or just some blank kicking music to put this in their collection ASAP. From the titles of some of their songs, I don't think it is to wise for me to sing these songs to loud in public until I find out what I'm singing.
Couldn't be better, way better than their second album!.......2005-01-14
Although I was introduced to los Amigos Invisibles via their songs from their second album, I would have to say that this CD is even better than THE NEW SOUND OF VENEZUELAN GOZADERA. It identifies more with the dance scene. Los Amigos Invisibles have to be one of the best Latin dance groups there is right now. This CD has to be a must for anyone who enjoys the Latin musical scene, but disdains the always biased and crappy SALSA, MERENGUE, and BACHATA musical movements. Their next work, Venezuelan Zinga Son is a nice complement to this CD, so if you could buy both, I suggest you do, so that you can shake your booty all night long!
Smooth, funky, goofy, subtle........2003-10-20
Musically speaking, Los Amigos Invisibles are an extremely smooth and funky band, seamlessly mixing Anglo and Caribbean Hispanic elements into their music, in a way that's accessible to many audiences. Yet in their eclecticism, their regional specificity never gets watered down-- their humor, which pervades the whole album in particular, is very specifically Hispanic Caribbean. And this is not just in the lyrics of the songs (hilarious though they are). The musical and stylistic allusions are up to it, too; for example, "El Barro", a song about a boy with a pimple in his nose, will send anybody familiar with Latin teeny-bopper boy bands reeling with laughter; "El Baile del Sobón" is a hilarious cartoonish parody of everything that's wacky about your random disposable roots Merengue song. The way they sing in general also often sounds "off-hand" in a way that I'm not sure translates across their cultural context, adding to the effect. A work of genius.
Third album of the greatest venezuelan dance band!.......2002-08-06
This is not the best album this band has to offer but its a nice album full of disco sounds mixed with jazzy grooves and latin percussions (venezuelan). Theyre sound is a litle more mature doe!
My favorite Amigos Invisibles album will always be their first "A venezuelan typical and autoctonal dance band" (not available in the States), lets hope their forth album "Venezuela singasong" is better than this one.
Don't be shy!.......2002-07-01
This CD deserves a resounding "Hurrah!" for breaking barriers of convention and genre. Its originality may even seem intimidating at first, but the crazy, pepped up Spanish lyrics grow on you VERY quickly. Understanding Spanish helps to appreciate the tongue-in-cheek nature of the album; still, I have many friends who don't speak a word of Spanish and adore this CD. It's a crowd and party pleaser, and even keeps me awake driving. Despite its energy, the album is cool as a cucumber... if you're looking to expand your musical horizons, this is a winner.

It's fitting that a movie about gun-wielding Elvis impersonators should boast an original soundtrack that's so criminally unoriginal. 3000 Miles to Graceland opens unpromisingly enough with the watered-down, depoliticized Rage Against the Machine-isms of (hed) Planet Earth's "Killing Time," before moving on to the post-Nine Inch Nails butt-rock of Filter's "It's Gonna Kill Me" and Nothingface's "Bleeder." As for electronica, the Crystal Method's 1997 "Vapor Trail" bests BT's more recent "Smartbomb," while Hardknox deserves credit for its blatant recycling of Fatboy Slim tricks on "Come in Hard." The result is an album so generic that reasonably inspired tracks like A3's "Mansion on the Hill," and Hednoize's "Loaded Gun" feel as out of place as Kenny Wayne Shepherd and the King himself. --Bill Forman

The Soundtrack is not as good as the movie........2007-01-24
I bought this item for my son. He and I both enjoy the movie. He is satisfied with sound track. I guess I expected more Elvis in the sound track selections.
Grab-bag with select highlights.......2003-05-11
If you saw the movie `3000 Miles To Graceland' then you know what kind of music to expect from its soundtrack. However, if you didn't see the movie, you'll be wondering what bands like [Hed]P.E. and Nothingface are doing on the same album with Elvis. And there's really no answer to that; other than that they were trying to boost the album's appeal. Most of the songs are featured on the band's full-length CDs and therefore only become enjoyable if you haven't heard them yet (i.e. Spineshank, [Hed]P.E., Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Crystal Method, etc.). The real gem on this soundtrack is the Elvis Presley classic "Such A Night", which you can now call a `classic' thanks to its appearance here. "Such A Night" really should've been the movie's theme, in place of the lackluster "Franklin's Requiem" (George Clinton). And since it's not featured on ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, this CD becomes a must-own for the diehard Elvis fan.
Of the 14 tracks, we could've done without about four: "Smartbomb" (BT), "Come In Hard" (Hardknox), "Loaded Gun" (Hednoize), and the aforementioned theme song. All those songs are nothing compared to The Crystal Method's "Vapor Trail", which is the only techno song you can call good. But since they were featured in the movie I guess you're forced to include them. Hah. The few great songs are "Killing Time" by [Hed]P.E., "In 2 Deep" by Kenny Wayne Shepherd and the epic "Such A Night". But as I said before, the fact that they are featured on the artist's earlier albums make them only great to the uninitiated. The one track that really jumped out at me is Bender's awesome "Angel Dust"; which fit in very nicely with `the van scene' (as I like to call it). That song might've actually spawned my liking of them. Sadly, on another down note, Uncle Kracker's "Who's Your Uncle?" is an edited version of the song; which is kind of odd considering that "Killing Time" isn't. And also, Uncle Kracker's smash hit "Follow Me" was featured in the movie and is NOT on the soundtrack. Go figure?...
The music on this soundtrack is either nu-metal, techno, blues, or classical; in the case of Elvis. There is great diversity from song to song and I think that allows for a better-than-average soundtrack. But still, there are a few aspects that keep it from being perfect. As I said, "Follow Me" wasn't included here when it was in the movie; and the same goes for the Elvis tracks "My Way" and "Trouble". It's hard to believe they didn't include Elvis songs when the movie was loosely based on The King himself. And, again, as I said, Uncle Kracker's track is edited; which in turn makes it unmemorable and annoying to listen to. Without those inaccuracies, this soundtrack would've been awesome. Even so, I highly recommend it if you saw and enjoyed the movie. And even if you haven't seen `3000 Miles To Graceland' yet, the soundtrack is still beneficial and worth frequent listens. So if you enjoy nu-metal, techno, blues and Elvis--and can handle them all at once--then certainly buy this album.
A soundtrack that is doing better than the movie?.......2003-01-01
I got this soundtrack as a Christmas present and this is one of the cds I wanted because of Such A Night by Elvis Presley was on the cd, and if the soundtrack didn't have the song on it, then I would not have wanted this cd. At looking at the 8 presious reviews, everbody that listened to this cd, liked it. But a whole lot of people didn't like the movie. The cd has two soundtracks, first is Vapor Trail and the 2nd is Franklin's Requiem. The soundtrack has various singers like (Hed) Planted Earth, Filter, Elvis Presley, Bender, Uncle Kracker, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Here is the tracks
1 Killing Time
2 It's Gonna Kill Me
3 Bleeder
4 Mansion on the Hill
5 Smartbomb
6 In 2 Deep
7 Who's Your Uncle
8 Come in Hard
9 New Disease
10 Angel Dust
11 Vapor Trail
12 Loaded Gun
13 Franklin's Requiem
14 Such a Night
I'm sure you pretty much know what the movie is about. If you don't know who the two guys are that are on the cover, they are Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner. But if you are a big Elvis Presley fan and want a soundtrack that has more Elvis Presley songs on it, I will reccomend to you Lilo & Stitch. This soundtrack is the soundtrack of one of the viloent movies that came out last year. This is one of the soundtracks to buy and please watch the movie if you have not seen it yet. It is kind of hard to believe that this soundtrack is doing better than the movie. And getting better reviews too.
Praiseland for Graceland.......2002-12-06
This soundtrack is one of the best yet. Extremely good mix of music that correlate nicely with the contents of the film. The song that really makes the soundtrack incredibly, however, has got to be the song "bleeder" by nothingface. This is a band that, in my opinion, should be getting a lot more recognition than they have in the past. It's nice to see them finally get at least some recognition.
One of my favorite albums!.......2002-03-06
This soundtrack is very much like the movie itself: loud, mindless, and alot of fun. My personal favorites: the head-banging intensity of "Killing Time," "It's Gonna Kill Me," and "New Disease," as well as the blatantly Fatboy Slim-ish techno tune "Come In Hard," one of the best recent songs of its kind. And the album ends in high style with "Such A Night" by The King himself, which will bring a smile to the face of anyone who has seen the movie's great end titles sequence. All in all, a real guilty pleasure of a CD.
