Recorded live at Dallas's Texas Stadium in 2004, this long-delayed release is worth the wait. Over 15 tracks, the three superstars sing together, separately, and in pairs for what turns out to be both a musical treat and a long draw of fun. Strait, who normally stands stock still in concert, loosens up and--surprise!--talks between songs ("That's country right there now"), and if my ears heard right, may actually say the word "ass." His is the strongest section musically, as he uses the western-swing classic "Milk Cow Blues" to stretch out with a fine showcase of his Ace in the Hole Band, and brings Jackson out for a masterful version of their hit "Murder on Music Row." But Jackson's set offers a personality-rich rendition of "Where I Come From," as well as a bluegrass version of Steve Young's "Seven Bridges Road" and a sturdy cover of "Texas Women," Hank Williams Jr.'s exercise in Lone Star braggadocio. Buffett gets a little too cute on "Margaritaville," on which over-the-top chorines shout, "Salt! Salt! Salt!" But when Jackson and Strait join him for a rousing romp through "Hey, Good Lookin'," you can almost see the ghost of Hank Sr. dancing in the aisles. --Alanna Nash

5 out of 5 stars Great Key West Country!.......2007-07-06

I am a "Parrothead" and have been for years. Jimmy's easing into Country is a great move in that it introduces him to many potential new fans. I wish there was a DVD of this concert available.

3 out of 5 stars Fun, but seems like you had to be there.......2007-07-04

Nice music from a stadium performance. Makes you feel you needed to be there to "get" some of it.

5 out of 5 stars Buffett master of style.......2007-06-09

Jimmy Buffett will be remembered in Music History as the Troubadour of the the 20th Century. His ease at

shining in so many musical genres makes him worth remembering and truly above the average pop star in the

opinion of this humble music teacher.

5 out of 5 stars Live at Texas Stadium.......2007-06-08

These are 3 of my very favorite artists. This album is outstanding. I think they had a lot of fun doing it and their enthusiam comes thru.

3 out of 5 stars Multiple stars are good!.......2007-06-04

I especially like when more than one entertainer participates on the stage or a recording. It always makes it seem more original and not the set patter you usually get. I like all of these artists so the combination is fun.

When the announcement came that George Strait was to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, there were those who thought it was premature. After all, Strait is only in his early 50s, and with 53 #1s, more than anyone else in Nashville history, he is still an active working artist, not the sort who sits back on a million-acre ranch remembering when. But one spin through It Just Comes Natural and it's obvious why the quiet Texan deserved his induction now. He simply has no mainstream peer, for either his consistency on the charts or his continuing to raise the bar with his confident, nuanced performance. Here, on an album recorded in Key West, Strait sounds even more relaxed than usual, as if he took more time to live with the songs--15 in all--before he recorded them. Throughout, he amply demonstrates his ability to choose material that pushes the country genre beyond its core themes of God, family, and patriotism while still staying traditional. So many of the songs catch one off guard, either because of their different subject matter (the way the lyric of "Come on Joe" gradually tells us the dead never really leave the living) or in their sophisticated approach to a routine topic (the head-spinning recognition of an old flame in Bruce Robison's "Wrapped"). Then there's the artistry with which producer Tony Brown's handpicked studio cats elevate an already great song even higher (a sizzling cover of Guy Clark's folk/honky-tonk/Western swing classic "Texas Cookin'"). Twenty-five years after his recording debut, Strait is still as crisp as the crease in his Wranglers. Yet the leader of the Ace in the Hole band has yet another card up his freshly starched sleeve. The man who doesn't talk in concert and rarely speaks to reporters leads off with "Give It Away," a divorce-and-damage saga set off by--surprise--a recitation! --Alanna Nash

Album Description

For the first time, Strait recorded NATURAL in a new setting - Jimmy Buffett's Shrimpboat Studio in Key West, Florida, where Strait and Buffett recorded "Sea of Heartbreak," from Buffett's LICENSE TO CHILL album, a few years ago. "I thought it might be a good idea to try something different," says Strait. "You couldn't tell that we cut this down there, there's no island flavor at all, but we just had a blast doing it. The studio is probably the smallest I've ever been in, with the musicians all crammed back in a little room - but we got a great sound, and it's such a relaxing atmosphere. I think I'll probably go back again." Recorded once again with Strait's frequent co-producer, Tony Brown, the sounds on the album reflect Strait's characteristic blend of traditional country structures shot through with a healthy dose of honky-tonk spirit and Western swing. Moods range from the introspective "Come On, Joe," in which a man's late wife tells him to be strong and move ahead with his life, to the raucous "Texas Cookin'," which is about just what it sounds like. An array of Nashville's finest songwriters contributed to NATURAL, including Bill Anderson, Bruce Robison, Lee Roy Parnell, and Guy Clark. "This album's got fifteen songs, which is more songs than I've ever put on a record before," says George Strait. "But I thought they were all so good, there wasn't one song on here that I would have felt right about leaving off. I really think we came up with one of the best albums I've ever done." The album in question, titled IT JUST COMES NATURAL, is being released in a year that marks Strait's 25th anniversary as a recording artist, and coincides with the announcement that he is the most recent addition to the Country Music Hall of Fame. It's also coming out alongside the jaw-dropping news that George Strait has become the all-time leader for Number One Country singles, as the album's opening track, "Give It Away," recently became his 53rd song to top the charts.

I have a lot of George Strait albums, and this is definately my favorite. It has really good songs, George sounds better than ever, and I would recommend it to anyone, even if country is not your thing.

5 out of 5 stars One of the very best!!.......2007-05-13

I have been a George Strait fan from the beginning - I own every recording and have to say that he never lets you down. This album is really one of my favorites - the songs are all excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Near perfection.......2007-04-21

It usually takes two or three playings for me to really like a new George Strait recording. The magic he makes with a song is very subtle. Getting my ears around a new song almost always takes a while but then I can really enjoy repeated listenings. Not so with this recording. From the very first spin, it had me hooked and I'm still hooked. I've played it at least once a week since I bought the CD and it continues to please.

When George Strait's "She'll Leave You With a Smile" moved to the top of the country charts in early 2003, the handsome Lone Star crooner bested Conway Twitty for the most No. 1 singles by a solo artist. This collection of 50 chart-toppers, spanning 22 years, showcases the Cadillac of country singers at his best, blending traditional and contemporary stylings, but never straying too far from the core of his Texas barroom sound. "Fool Hearted Memory," from 1982, proves that Strait had his uncluttered production and straightforward vocal approach down from the start, no matter how many producers guided him to his peak. Through the years, the path to superstardom dictated that he trade the crisp Western swing of "Right or Wrong" and "Ace in the Hole" for squishy, mid-tempo crowd pleasers like "Check Yes or No" and "Write This Down." But he redeemed himself with such poignant heartbreakers as "So Much Like My Dad" and "…Smile." This retrospective's one new track, "I Hate Everything," about a man in a bar who's besotted more from pain than whiskey, doesn't match up with the singer's best material, but it's still got that irresistible Strait hook: average-guy sincerity wrapped in a down-to-earth heart. --Alanna Nash

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great but a little misleading.......2007-07-12

I love George Strait but I get tired of hearing about how great it is that he has 50 plus # 1 songs.
In the Country world that is fine.
But when they say that's it's more than any other artist of any style of music it's very misleading.
Pop/Rock acts like Elvis and the Beatles did not have a chart just for their style.
Pop merely means Popular, what is the biggest out of everything out there.
It's an all genre chart.
Therefore, when a "Pop" act reaches the charts that they have been labled for, it does not mean "Pop" music it means all genres of Popular music.
It is much more difficult to even make the top 40 on this chart, let alone # 1.
When Strait has a #1 song it is only the biggest Country song.
When Pop acts have a #1 it is literally the biggest song in the U.S. period.
Strait only competes with Country artist.
On Billboard Elvis himself had 30 top 10 Country singles and 11 #1 Country songs and 13 if you add Cash Box which is what this Strait set included as well, and Elvis is not even a Country Singer, but a various style vocalist.
Elvis Worldwide has had 91 different #1 songs, most of them coming between the U.S and U.K or Canada.
On Billboard alone if you count all the various Billboard charts, Country, POPULAR, R&B, Christmas, and Adult Contemporary Elvis has a total of 34 different #1's and 38 if you count Cash Box.
That is still less than Strait in the U.S., but when you consider that 18 to 21 of them are on the POPULAR chart, where you are up agaisnt all styles and not merely one type of music, it is more than equal.
If you combine all the Billboard charts again Elvis had nearly 70 top Ten singles and over 70 with Cash Box added.
40 of these were on the All Genre chart, just as impressive as a # 1 on a non all genre chart.
Elvis also has 151 Hot 100 Billboard songs, 104 Billboard top 40 hits, 154 Woldwide Top 10 hits and 91 woldwide #1's
Strait has no #1's in other countries or on any other American charts besides Country.
Strait has 34 Gold and Platnium awards for his albums by the RIAA, Elvis has 81 in albums alone.
Add the 53 singles and 16 Extended Play albums and Elvis has 150 Gold or Platnium awards.
George Strait is a great Country Singer, Elvis Presley is the King of Music.
That being said, this is a great double disc set of George Strait's
I am not attempting to bash Strait, I am a big fan.
Nevertheless, I am bashing those you don't know enough about the charts when they start making comparisons to Elvis Presley.

5 out of 5 stars ONLY THE BEST.......2007-07-06

It's a good thing that CDs are durable. I have literally worn this CD out listening. Great stuff. I am a permanent fan.

5 out of 5 stars George Strait 50 Number Ones.......2007-06-09

This is a fantastic CD! It has all of George's #1 hits in one place. I love his music because it's true country. His voice is so smooth and the CD offers a variety of ballads, upbeat tempos and swing. It's a great variety of music on one CD. He's so talented and really knows how to choose songs for his CD's. The only thing about this one is that it doesn't include "Amarillo by Morning". I would have thought it would have also been a #1 hit. This is a great CD and I would highly recommend it to anyone, country music lover or not!

5 out of 5 stars Wondeful!.......2007-05-29

I love these two cds. They have so many great songs. Alot of the songs I grew up listening to. It's just wonderful!

With the help of producer Tony Brown, George Strait redefined his relationship to the contemporary country mainstream with this 1992 soundtrack album, which became the bestselling single release of his career. In the movie, Strait portrays a country star who walks away from the smoke and mirrors to get back to his down-home roots. The ballad "When Did You Stop Loving Me" is as pure country as it gets in this day and age, while "The King of Broken Hearts" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends" introduced Strait's audience to an exceptionally gifted songwriter named Jim Lauderdale. --Rick Mitchell

I've been a Strait Fan since 1980, but the Pure Country movie and soundtrack led a lot of people to becoming George Strait Fans. This album is pure gold - pure platinum!!!!!!!!! Even the song sung with his son is good.
I would advise them to get into some of his earlier music. If you can't get his other albums, buy Strait out of the Box.

5 out of 5 stars If you like the movie, and his music, you'll like this CD.......2005-10-26

When I listen to this CD, the songs bring to my mind scenes from the movie, which I like very much. I can play it in the car and "watch" the movie scenes in my head. This is a great CD if you like Mr. Strait and his music. It is my favorite George Strait CD.

5 out of 5 stars Strait Then and Now.......2005-02-24

George Strait's "Pure Country", album is fresh compared to many of his past albums. However, the album captures many of Strait's familiar sounds. "Pure Country", gives listeners the classic country sound, such as "When Did You Stop Loving Me" that Strait fans have enjoyed on albums past such as "Right or Wrong" and "Ocean Front Property". The love ballad "I Cross My Heart", gives fans the classic country sound for a love ballad. The solo within the song uses a great steel guitar sound. "Heartland" is an upbeat honky tonk sound, that Strait displays on every album. The tunes "When Did You Stop Loving Me" and "Heartland", are storytelling themes that personify Strait's lyrics with other songs such as "Does Ft. Worth Ever Cross Your Mind". George Strait creates and performs storytelling ballads that capture peoples vulnerability and relates to many listeners. Then Strait's album can take the listeners from vulnerability to an upbeat feel great tune. Strait has the ability to give his listeners everyday emotions that one can experience on each and every album. George Strait is a modern "throwback" to country legend Hank Williams, Strait's style is unique, however, he can be compared to Williams who also had a unique style. Both singers had the ability to relate to their fans through their music. Another album that should be considered is "Ocean Front Property", which also gives listeners that classic country Strait sound. George Strait is a country music legend and the album "Pure Country" helps to solidify his place among the elite in music.

When the hits come as effortlessly as they do to Strait, it's easy for an artist to lose interest. The man who ushered in country's hat-act era has spent a career bouncing from lifeless and fluffy to hard and soulful. This four-CD box tells the story from 1976 (when he cut the first of three singles for Houston indie D Records) through 1995. At his best--"Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind," for example--he defines the modern heart song, but lightweight stuff such as "Hollywood Squares" won't win him new converts. --John Morthland

If you like Hank Jr. and Sr., Dwight Yoakam, etc you will love this collection. George Strait is one of the most diverse, talented and soulful of our contemporary country singers. This is a superb and well-rounded look at this wonderful artist. This collection and his CD Honkytonkin are my all-time George Strait favorites. Additionally, this box set is a a real bargain.

Excellent CD set. My daughter is avid fan and loved it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Box Set.......2006-09-14

4 CD's of absolutely outstanding music, by a Living Legend. Here's a voice that has stuck with the traditional country formula since the late 1970's through the boy-band trash of Nashville today. George took the straight forward Honky Tonk approach of Lefty and Carl Smith, and combined them with a modern Western Swing that has made him one of the few distinctive voices remaining in Country Music. This box set is superbly recorded and I cannot imagine a better sound. I am partial to the first disc, and especially the first few "obscure" numbers of the 1970's....but, the 2d & 3d discs' coverage of Mr Strait during Country's late heydey (the late-80's) are every bit as good. You owe it to yourself to get this one; it's complete, and best of all, it's very affordable. A+

5 out of 5 stars Everything+ From pre-1981 Debut To 1993's Easy Come Easy Go.......2006-06-07

Just like my title says, this box includes EVERYTHING worth listening to from every album till his 1983 "Easy Come Easy Go" album and more (With the exception of the Christmas album). I believe it includes everything which ranked #70 up and and some that never ranked at all, and tops it off with maybe 6 unreleased songs. Two of which became top 5 hits, and one being a duet with the man himself, Frank Sinatra. And also includes a nice little book with info about the songs among other things. Well worth the price for everything you get.

Country's most reluctant superstar can always lend gravity to even the weakest of songs, so masterful is his phrasing and restrained, expressive delivery, and so artful his picking and the production that surrounds his Everyman baritone. On Somewhere Down in Texas, many of George Strait's songs are semiautobiographical and ring with authenticity. The title track portrays a man who's weary of the road and yearns to stay home with his family; "Texas" salutes the state that made him what he is; and "You'll Be There," the heartfelt single that talks of meeting a loved one in the afterlife, likely hits a nerve with the singer, who lost a child some years ago. Strait also does well with the terrible twins of country dance-hall fare, misery and grief--particularly on the honky-tonk weeper "Ready for the End of the World" and the killer ballad "Good News, Bad News," a duet with Lee Ann Womack, who cowrote the tune with Dean Dillon and Dale Dodson. Womack sings rings around her fellow Texan, giving her reading of this exquisite song of heartbreak an emotional resonance that sticks in the mind long after it's over. But Strait conveys a stoic acceptance of a tragically missed chance at love, and it plays just right for a cowboy antihero. Somewhere Down in Texas could have benefited from the addition of an irresistible rhythm tune or another example of the western swing that Strait embraced so fervently early in his career. But every time ol' George refers to his heroes by name--Haggard, Nelson, and Jones--you know time will show him to be, if not precisely in their league, certainly a close second. --Alanna Nash

George Strait's first three greatest-hits albums (now made redundant by the four-disc Strait Out of the Box) collected essential examples of contemporary country music. In his finest singles, Strait seemed to resolve, both commercially and artistically, the tensions between hardcore twang and New Country pop. His 2000 best-of set, however, documents Strait's decline. Oh, the radio play has continued unabated--12 of the 15 tracks here made the country Top 10--but emotionally it is a sad and tedious tumble from the Cajun stomp of 1994's "Adalida" and the deliberate self-deceptions of 1996's "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" to pop-rock successes like 1998's catchy but insipid "True." The two new tracks leave the future as anybody's guess: "Murder on Music Row," a duet with Alan Jackson, pledges allegiance to tradition (both in message and execution), but "The Best Day" is devoid of any of the adult ambiguity, previously a Strait staple, that would grant it poignancy. --David Cantwell

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The mid-nineties hits.......2005-06-11

The album picks up George's career where the boxed set (Strait out of the box) ends, so it covers the period from 1994 to 1998. It shows that George's style was evolving but still firmly rooted in traditional country music.

The album opens with two songs specially recorded for the album, the first (The best day) being an excellent ballad. The second song (Murder on music row) was first written and recorded by Larry Cordle, a bluegrass performer. Here, George sings it as a duet with Alan Jackson. George rarely sings duets but although there is no obvious reason for this particular song to be a duet, George and Alan clearly enjoyed recording this song. While both George and Alan have made some concessions to the requirements of the contemporary market place, they have both managed to be hugely successful with music that is much closer to traditional country music than most of the music recorded in Nashville these days.

The remaining tracks are taken from just four albums, these being Lead on (Adalida, Lead on, You can't make a heart love somebody), Blue clear sky (the title track, Carried away, I can still make it to Cheyenne, King of the mountain), Carrying your love with me (the title track, Round about way, One night at a time, Today my word slipped away) and One step at a time (True, We really shouldn't be doing this). Of these songs, Today my world slipped away is a cover of a Vern Gosdin country hit but the others (as far as I know) are original songs.

Picking out highlights in such a strong collection is difficult, but I'll nominate Murder on Music Row, Adalida, Blue clear sky and King of the mountain. If you are new to George's music, this compilation makes a great introduction.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest of the Greatest.......2005-02-22

I am a huge country music fan and this is one of five CDs I would choose to have with me if I were stranded on a desert isle. I loved this CD. It has all of George Strait's most recent hits as well as two new songs - 'The Best Day', which is another in a string of fantastic father-son songs that Strait has done (starting with Love without End, Amen). The second new song is Murder on Music Row with Alan Jackson. It took me some time to warm up to this one, and its a strident defense against New Country.

So it should come as no surprise that the rest of the CD is all done in an old country style. My personal favorite is I Can Still Make Cheyenne, which is one of the best (and most depressing) songs I've ever heard. This CD does not contain any of the really classic Strait stuff like All My Exes Live in Texas, and anyone who is interested in Strait should really start with his true golden age. But if you have any tolerance at all for steel guitars and songs about people cheating, drinking, and dying, then you will love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars the most beautiful song i'v ever heard.......2003-11-30

when i firt heard this song i really liked it .he'z cute too.xo

5 out of 5 stars excellent!.......2003-03-16

You can't go wrong with this purchase. If you want some of the best songs George has done over the last few years, this CD puts them all in one spot. I enjoy every song on this album and would recommend it to anyone who is a die-hard GS fan or is just getting into country music. George Strait is THE MAN!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST HITS ALBUM EVER!.......2002-10-27

This is my favorite cd I own, and the Road Less Traveled cd is #2. My favorite song EVER is "Blue Clear Sky" with the lyrics and the catchy music, I heard it when I was like 8 years old and I actually knew the lyrics to the song!Bob DiPiero has written so many great hit songs, but this one is the best!

"True" is another great song! The lyrics again are mastered and the music is terrific!

"Best Day" is another Father/Son Song penned by GS and tells about the son's life with fishin'/drivin'/ and gettin' married'.
Things I wish I did more often with my far away dad.

"Murder On Music Row" is one of the most inspiring song I ever heard. I always said that many country artists have turned to the pop charts and murdered country music on murder row! This song tells how someone committed murder to country music and we're not really sure who did it. This song is a traditional country song with the use of the STEEL GUITAR and the FIDDLE.
I love how Strait and Alan Jackson attack this ongoing problem.
Leeann Womack does great on the vocals!

"Carrying You Love with Me" is a classic!

"Adalida" is a upbeat Cajun melody with unforgettable singin' by George.
"Lead On" tells a story of how people lead you on, pretending like they love you.
"Carried Away" is a great song with unbeattable music!
"We Really Shouldn't Be Doing This" shows the Elvis in Strait's voice and a great song also.
"I Can Still Make Cheyenne" is a great story of a Rodeo Cowboy who is always gone so his grilfriend is going to leave him but he says he'll leave right now and speed to Wyoming.
I like "King Of The Mountain". It has a very classic traditional country sound and is very catchy.
"Round About way" is a very underreated song with an uptempo music sound in it.
"You Can't Make A Heart Love Somebody" has very memorable lyrics and is a song that contradicts other propasal song by saying 'No' to the 'Will you marry me?'

"One Night At a Time" isn't my favorite but has very catchy music and words
"Today My World Slipped Away" is okay, definitely not my favorite, I find it too slow but you may enjoy it.

These are the reasons why you should by this GREAT CD! It Has Strait's latest hits but sadly doesn't include the
#1 hit "I Just Want To Dance with You"
Strait will ALWAYS be the all time greatest country KING of country music, who has stayed country throughout his career!

Released in 1985, this collection of George Strait's early hits demonstrates his easy affinity for honky-tonk (the Haggardish "Unwound," his 1981 breakthrough hit) and Western swing (the standard "Right or Wrong") as well as his ability to bend gracefully toward country-pop (the romantic ballad "Marina Del Rey"). But the most enduring song here is "Amarillo by Morning," a rodeo-cowboy anthem that, with its world-weary lyrics and lonesome fiddle coda, remains a perennial of Strait's live sets. --Rick Mitchell

5 out of 5 stars George Strait - Greatest Hits.......2006-08-07

As a new George Strait fan, I like this one almost as much as Greatest Hits Vol. 2. And better than his newer recordings.

4 out of 5 stars Very good.......2006-01-29

very good basic greatest hits if you just want to have the songs in one place. it is still missing a lot but this came out awhile ago. all in all I am happy with it.
the one thing about George Strait You no what your gettin and its always good music.

4 out of 5 stars Amarillo Lite.......2005-09-08

This is a good album for anyone who is a George
Strait fan.

Strait's cover of Terry Stafford's 1973 hit,
"Amarillo By Morning" is the centerpiece of the
album, and deserves a little attention.

While Strait's version of this song is probably the
most similar to Stafford's original performance,
with all the improvements in instrumentation,
it still lacks something of the spirit of the original.
Maybe it's the different style of backing vocals.
Still a decent cover, and since Stafford's version
isn't likely to become available on CD any time soon,
it's probably as good as we're gonna get.

4 out of 5 stars a fine sample of George's first 4 years of music.......2005-07-24

George Strait's Greatest Hits covers his first four years of music. Ten songs to some up 4 years. These may not be some of his best known songs these days, but George Strait's Greatest Hits houses some of his finest music. Classics like Unwound, Amarillo by Morning, and You Look so Good in Love just to name a few. Although there are more comprehensive packages out their Greatest Hits is a great introduction to the music of George Strait.

5 out of 5 stars George's First Hits.......2004-09-19

George Strait's "Greatest Hits" was released in 1985 and contains his first 10 hits. It's an incredible collection and shows why George has been so successful. From the very beginning, he's worked with some of the best songwriters and producers in the business, which really shows in this work. George has had a ton of hits and is now the #5 country artists of all-time. It all started with these songs.

1) Unwound - George's first hit kick-started his enduring career by peaking at #6 in 1981. A terrific up-tempo song with lots of fiddles, it was the first of many hits he recorded written or co-written by Dean Dillon. This amusing song about drinking away your problems contains this amusing lyric - Cause that woman that I had/ Wrapped around my finger just a come unwound. Terrific stuff.

2) Down and Out - A great swing song. This song only went to #16 in 1981, but it would be more than a decade before another one of his hits stopped short of the Top 10.

3) If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home) - George's first Top 3 hit (#3 in 1982) is one of his best songs ever. The story of a couple growing apart, the song manages to pack in amazing variety in under 3 minutes.

4) Fool Hearted Memory - George's first #1 hit (#1 for one week in 1982) is a beautiful up-tempo ballad about a man remembering an old love.

5) Marina Del Rey - Was George's first hit slow ballad (#6 in 1983). It has some really lovely lyrics, such as: And as we looked into each others eyes/ We found our bodies lost in paradise/ Like castaways/ In Marina Del Ray.

6) Amarillo By Morning - Simply my favorite song by George (#4 in 1983). A true classic about a bull rider, CMT deservedly named it one of the Top 10 country songs of all time. The lyrics are so evocative, starting with the incredible beginning (Amarillo by morning/ Up from San Antone) and the best lyrics in any Strait song - Well I'll be looking for eight/ When they pull that gate/ And I'm hoping that/ Judge ain't blind. The fade-out with violins is a haunting and apropos ending.

7) A Fire I Can't Put Out - George's second #1 hit (#1 for one week in 1983) is another story of a past love.

8) You Look So Good in Love - Includes a somewhat sappy spoken-word interlude (#1 for one week in 1984). It's not one of my favorites on the CD but quite smooth.

9) Right or Wrong - George got back to recording some hit swing with this song (#1 for one week in 1984). It sounds contemporary but could have been recorded by Hank Williams; an extraordinary song.

10) Let's Fall to Pieces Together - A sweet ballad about finding solace in the arms of another when you're in pain (#1 for one week in 1984).

This CD is a must-have for fans of George Strait and country music; every song on here is quite good. Although his later box set includes all of these songs, I like having this collection as well, as it has absolutely no filler. Most highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best.......2004-11-21

I first heard this album in 1981 and still listen to it all the time. It is without a doubt one of George's best!

4 out of 5 stars good stuff.......2003-05-01

i bought almost all of his stuff before this one and when i finally got this one it was different but still delightful. the songs grabbed me in an instant, they're that memorable. nothing like the stuff today, but that's ok, these songs are classic and always will be

5 out of 5 stars The most perfect country album ever recorded........2002-12-09

This album combines two sure-fire winners: Dean Dillon's formittable songwriting and Mr. Strait, country music's purest voice. Most of the songs on the album can even be appreciated by folks who generally don't care for country. If you fall into this catagory, you'll do well to check out Blame It On Mexico, I Get Along With You, Friday Night Fever, and If You're Thinking You Want A Stranger. These songs could almost be catagorized as soft rock/easy listening. However, songs such as Down And Out, She's Playing Hell.., and Unwound round out the album with their more conventional beer-drinkin' honky tonk sound. Also, the production quality is crisp, clear and tight. For under seven bucks, you'll own the best country album ever recorded.

5 out of 5 stars I cross my heart.......2001-07-07

This is the sweetest song I've ever heard. Pure country is a great movie. I was so happy the first time i saw the film. The rest of the songs are fantastic. In few words is an amazing production.

5 out of 5 stars A First for Strait.......2001-01-03

The beginning is right here on this album. The earliest work he ever did with MCA records. Since the this album was first only offered on a LP record in 1981 and cassette you do not get that first class sound you get with cds that are made today. Really when you hear this the recording is really outdated but that does not stop the classics on the album and basically all of the great songs his first classic Unwound, Down and Out and If you want a stranger are reasons to buy it right there but then you have the non singles which are the reasons to own it like Blame it on Mexico, Friday Night Fever,Everytime you throw dirt on her,and I get along with you and basically all of the others, with the exception of Honky tonk downstairs which isn't to bad but gets better later on in the song but the song starts out slow but overall a classic.

George Strait - Greatest Hits, vol. 2 is country music at it's best. Any cd from George is amazing, but with hits like: "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind", "The Chair", and "Ocean Front Property" this cd is sure to please any George Strait fan. It is a must have for your collection.

5 out of 5 stars 10-Song Essential.......2004-10-08

With "50 Number Ones" out for sale, it's hard to argue a better economical and jam-packed value, but there's no disputing the best 10-song collection belongs to Greatest Hits Vol. 2. George remains the most consistent country artist within the last 40 yrs (I would argue the most consistent in COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY), and the proof lies in GH Vol 2. For those who remember cassettes (much less 8-tracks, a couple of George's I own), nothing quenched the thirst of country traditionalists in the 1980's like this album. My father and I took many a road trip from Texas to Montana (a one-way 3-day trip) to the tune of GH Vol 2. Absolutely, positively, the soundtrack of my life.

5 out of 5 stars George Strait #1.......2002-12-14

As far as I'm concerned, he is the BEST. I have all his cassetts and C.D.s so wherever I am I can hear him sing. George has stayed true to the REAL COUNTRY music. Not only is he a great singer but he is a wonderful human being and true to himself.

5 out of 5 stars george strait at his best.......2002-10-11

this cd brings back alot of memories with 10 classic hits by george strait like "nobody in there right mind wouldv'e left her","ocean front property" and "all my ex's live in texas" if you like classic george then pick this cd up.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST of George Strait.......2002-05-10

After years of shunning country, this was the first CD that made me fall back in love with it. Since then, I have embraced other artists such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and Brooks& Dunn. Among many others! A # 1 CLASSIC album that opens doors and keeps memories alive. Real down-home country that also is not too "twangy". I recommend it for fans of George and also budding country fans that like the 'roots of country' but not too much cry in the beer stuff. GREATEST HITS # 1 also is a perfect collection. He still ranks as one of the best, so anything he comes out with is GREAT, but this is a BESTBUY!!!!
