Amazing CD!.......2007-02-21

Mica Paris has always been one of my favorites, and she didn't disappoint with this release! "I Wanna hold onto You" will always be one of my all-time favorites, and her version of "You put a move on my Heart" puts Tamia's too slickly produced schreecy vocals to shame! She runs the whole gammit from upbeat danceable songs to slow jams on this one, one of my all-time favorite CD's!

I remember this lady from way back only by the couple of singles that were released here in the states and low and behold i fell upon one of the best cd s that i will ever own! Mica Paris is a RARE GEM! This cd touches on her talents in so many ways; and i can't began to describe that voice! I have listened to this cd for almost 8 days straight and i still can't get over what i've missed. This girl was working with some of the best of the best and they treated her like a queen. I can't describe the joy i get when hearing "We Were Made For love" Or the energy i get when i hear "never felt like this before", All around this cd touches all my bases and then some! This is as classic as Mica herself, I dare any one of the up and coming female artist to stand toe to toe with this woman! i just wish that we would wake up and see the real talents in this business and Mica Paris embodies just that! Just listen and i'm sure you will be hooked!

The Most Beautiful Voice and Beautiful Collection I've Ever Owned.......2006-06-09

I bought this CD when it was first released many years ago and I waited for her next one--the problem is--Mica Paris has never been fully appreciated in the U.S. and I am from the U.S.--i just can't understand it. Her voice and music are exquisite--I have to believe it's the marketing. Her marketing team is not breaking into the U.S. music industry. It also may be that her music is hard to place, it's not hip hop, it's not pop, and it's not exactly R&B. How sad, beautiful music is beautiful music. I think when the U.S. market sees a Black singer they expect a certain sound. I wonder how many truly gifted artists are under appreciated and go unnoticed because their sound is outside of a fixed box.

Don't Whisper Mica.......2006-01-16

This CD should prove that Mica has the potential to perform any type of song. Whisper a prayer contains a combination of; Slow jams for Romancing, as well as upbeat tracks for dancing. What Ms. Paris needs to do is be more persistant as to marketing herself in the U.S.and not allow herself to be sold short. Talent singers/artists like this young lady is extremely rare and it's a shame that it isn't getting the recognition it deserves. It excellent that she is getting recognition in her native country of England. To be a true diva which takes no for answer; one should be more persistant.

Exquisite voice, heavenly production.......2005-11-02

This is an exquisite album by the velvety-voiced Mica Paris, with some hip production from the likes of Narada Michael Walden. It is a shame that US audiences haven't quite taken to Ms. Paris as they have to Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, but then again, "British soul" is often a bit subtler than the US counterpart. Ms. Paris may not be "edgy" enough for the US market, but it doesn't mean that she is a poor singer- quite the contrary! Ms. Paris delivers on all of the tracks of Whisper a Prayer- the title track is a gentle gem!- showing incredible range and delicacy. Mr. Walden's production enhances her voice in way that is sparkling and soothing, and this collaboration turned out to be a great pairing on all the tracks of the disc. By far my favorite album from Ms. Paris, I would recommend this to anybody who wants a powerful, but not overbearing voice, with a production that is sharp and a pleasure to listen to. Mica Paris' "Whisper a Prayer" is a sonic work of art for all those ready to be enamored with her classy style and delivery.

Underated Singer.......2006-08-29

Mica Paris caught my attention back in the day with One Temptation and was forgotten in many respects in the U S. I stumbled upon this album and was glad I did. There are a lot of remakes as well as a duet with will downing that is not bad.

Best of Mica's Best.......2006-01-16

It's been a long awaiting for a CD which showcases a variety of styles that fits Mica's vocal range. The only fault I have is there were tracks that were release in the U.S. that were not included on this CD. Whoever said she reminds them of Anita Baker and/or Regina Belle needs to get their hearing check. I don't hear the vocal styles of those two. If anything, she reminds me of a young British version of Natalie Cole. Especially when she sings My One Temptation. Overall I still give this CD a perfect 5 starts!

Nice overview for beginners, but...missing a few things.......2005-04-11

While it's always nice to have all of Mica's stunning singles all in one place, it would have been more valuable for true fans of Micar Paris and completists like me to have sought-after tracks, like her many rare, long deleted B-sides and non-LP tracks, PLUS where is the amazing club/house remix of MY ONE TEMPTATION remixed by Bruce Forrest in 1989 and only appearing on the original U.S. 12"? I have it on vinyl, but would have been nice to have on CD for clarity and posterity - but still, if you're coming to Mica new, this is a good value for the $$$.

Mica Paris has a very nice voice reminiscent of Natalie Cole. When she dropped her debut CD "So Good," she gave a strong indication that there could be a superstar in the making at least in her native UK. Songs like "My One Temptation" (which is simply superb) and "So Good" showed much promise. I also enjoyed her version of "You Put A Move On My Heart" as well as her duet with the incomparable Will Downing on "Where Is The Love." They both do the song proud.

Ultimately I think that Mica failed to make a stronger impact because she went the traditional R & B route, which of course is not a bad thing, but her voice, youth, song arrangements and generally tepid song selection made it difficult to make a case for bypassing more seasoned and stronger singers like Anita Baker on one end and hipper soul singers like Lisa Stanfield.

Listening to this collection you get the very best of her 3 releases and it's a placid collection, but not a must-have unless you have all the works of major talents ranging from Nina Simone to Joss Stone. Mica easily earns 3 stars and if you like middle of the road adult contemporary r & b, everything here will satisfy you. I am glad that I bought it for the songs that I highlighted but it's not a release that gets much play in my crowded music universe.

Mica Paris without a doubt one of the most Underrated Artists over the past 20 years easily.I became Hooked on Her Vocals from Her Album with the really good song "My One Temptation"&I Have dug Her Voice.She hasn't always had the Best Material to deal with overall but She is a Artist that Should be Heard.

This is an excellent CD .My One Temptation is my favorite song.I love the duet with Will Downing ''Where is the love?'' which is a remake of the song Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway did several years before.

I was hooked from just hearing the song, "My One Temptation" on the radio. I took a chance and purchased the vinyl and was like Damn, this girl can blow! My favorites are My One Temptation, Where Is The Love (with Will Downing), Don't Give Me Up, Sway & Dance The Blues Away. At last, I have it on cd.

Mica is a UK soulqueen who has to be taken seriously. She is still there, she is still touring and she is also a wonderful classical singer (what she is doing at the moment). This is her debut album with all her well-known hits like "My one temptation" and "Breathe life into me". It's a MUST for every soul fan. Good classic soul. Wonderful

Contribution is not one of her strongest suits of music, but she showed the world that she got what it takes to tackle something that she holds dear to her. She sang a Prince song that showcased her dark smoky vocals as enticing. With the vocal backing of Cindy Mizelle, she and Mica (along with eleven others, including Will Downing) made the song hers. South Of The River is one of my faves. Truth And Honesty, Just To Be With You, Contribution and the remake of Smokey Robinson's More Love are good songs. Contribution is not an A effort, but she gets a C- for trying.

Mica: still good.......2003-12-23

Her second album is ok but not as strong as her debut - which probably explains that her stardom went a bit down here. You find Prince songs on this album (later re-done by his wife Mayte). Still good, but not great.

A Classic Soul Sensation!.......2003-04-29

This is by far my favorite album by Mica Paris as it strikes me as that classic soul I grew up with in the 70's. Paris's vocal here is somewhat like Gladys Knight and each song is rich with feeling.

The prince penned If I Love U 2Nite is off the scale! While others lament the bygone days of Rock n' Roll legends like Elvis and the Beatles. I lament the bygone days of rich soulful singers like this.

Mica's Best!.......2001-12-05

This disc is just as hot as it was when I picked it up 10 yrs ago! Mica Paris is one of the most underrated artists out there...she's got the vocal range, power, and control and a soulful delivery, and this album fully displays her gifts. While every track on this album is great (from the hip-hop/soul of the title track, which features a rap by Rakim, to the ballad "Who Can We Blame"), my favorites are "If I Love U 2 Nite", "You Can Make A Wish", and "Truth and Honesty". This album is made up mostly of club-type and mid-tempo cuts, all with a hip-hop vibe. Unfortunately, this CD is out of print, but if you come across it, grab it!!! Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Much overlooked in the U.S., Contribution is rich and smooth.......1998-06-27

With Contribution, Mica Paris takes the success of her first album, "So Good", and adds more depth and richness. Her voice is so original, very flavorful....it's surprising that she has been pretty much invisible in the U.S. There is a range of songs here, and as in most albums, some are stronger than others. I am no impartial music critic though, I am in love with her voice, and I think she makes the most of the weaker tracks. My two favorites are # 2 and #5. "South of the River" cooks with that cool jam type rhythm.... you know, you don't necessarily have to dance to it, but it makes you snap your fingers. The Brits have that style locked. "If I Love U 2 Nite" lets her silky voice plead with sweet vulnerability, even in the midst of the slow, funky pacing of the beats. Hey I would buy a Mica Paris album in a heartbeat. She could sing "Wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round".... but, of course that's just my opinion. It should be all you need, though, so buy it!

Why wasn't this CD released in the US???.......2007-02-18

This is one of her best, in my opinion, and why it wasn't released here is beyond me! Her remakes of Sly and the Family Stone's "Stay" and "Don't Say Goodnight" by the Isley Brothers are new classics, and she lays down a nice mellow "old school" funk and R&B groove on most of these songs, notably "Let Me Inside" and "Perfect". She is one of the most underrated artists out there, and it's a shame she doesn't get more play over here, especially when you look at the non-singing skanks that are out there today!

Still has it.......2007-02-16

A couple previous reviews cite that this was just an attempt to cash in on the baby boomer crowd; if they read the liner notes they would find that this release acts as a memoir, tracks which inspired Mica to become the singer she is. Her cover of "Tracks of My Tears," "Lets Stay Together" and "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" shine along with the updated Motown-ish arrangements of sophistication. It is not her best work, but slaming her picts as resembling a "Crying Game" drag queen is far off the mark, although much of her initial embracement in the US was by the gay house scene. This release came out around the same time as "If You Could Love Me" (2005) another Mica release worth buying along with "Black Angel" (1998).

I love Mica Paris and have ALL her CDs, but this desperate attempt to scoring a baby-boomer MOR crossover hit in the U.S. is just lame - pedestrian cover choices, flat arrangements, and then, of course, there's Mica herself, barely working up a sweat as she literally seems to merely phone it in - her vocals are the most limp, lackluster of her long career - dig deep back to 80s/90s soul hits like MY ONE TEMPTATION or I WANNA HOLD ONTO YOU and see how blander Mica has become - is this her label or the artist herself? Either way, this won't please longtime fans - I suggest Mica get her old label Island/4th&Broadway to reissue her rare remixes & Bsides on CD - especially the long-lost BRUCE FORREST U.S. DANCE MIX of her debut smash MY ONE TEMPTATION - now that's searing, soulful Mica in her prime!

This is a fine addition to Mica's other releases! "I luv you" has such a catchy beat and great lyrics it gets your interest from the start, and she again has a great mix of mellow to upbeat with her sultry, sexy voice wrapped around it! Welcome back, Ms. Paris! Don't stay away so long!

What's not to Love..........2006-03-23

As a die hard fan of Mica Paris, this collection of 10 songs is wonderful! I have enjoyed all the tracks. But Love "I Luv You" & "I'll Never Say I Love You Again". Both these songs bring back memories of previous hits. "18 Months And 26 Days" has a mellow drive that is very catchy. This CD is a dream come true for me who absolutely loves Mica's unique voice. I had been searching for a new Mica Paris CD and I found this treasure!
( It such a shame more Americans won't and don't know of this CD or artist.)
This is a must have for any Mica Paris fan.
