This is jammed with old school floor-fillers, the soundtrack to their early years on the dancefloor and a mix of music that formed the benchmark for their current studio sound. Tracklisting includes the huge, Studio 54-sytle floor fillers are there (T-Connection, Billy Ocean) but so are records broken at Jellybean's Fun House (Cat Stevens) and the Paradise Garage (Montana Sextet), Zanzibar (Blaze) & Louie Vega's Heartthrob (Kasso).

    I liked this comp much better than the first "inspirations" because of it's obscurity of tracks.. not the same "classic" dance tracks that we're almost sick of and want to put back into hibernation... this one's recommended. Also, this is excellent party material, if they like Old School, they'll love this!

        If you are a fan of pure Southern Gospel, this is the album for you. The vocal harmonies are outstanding! Not very many places to find such music these days...

        This is a wonderful re-issue of a classic album from 1973. In addition to the title track "When I Wake Up", some of the other hi-lites of this CD are "One Day I Will", "God's Last Altar Call", "The First Look", and "Long Long Journey". This is a must for any southern Gospel fan, and especially for fans of The Inspirations. These guys have been around for all these years and are still going strong. This is the same style of music and messages in song that you'll find on their new CD: "Two Shoes." I can promise you that "When I Wake Up" by the Inspirations will be a blessing to you. It's absolutely one of the best Southen Gospel CDs I've ever heard!

        This CD has some great old ones. Features the bass singer on several of the twelve songs. If you wish your 8-track hadn't worn out in the 70's, then this CD is for you.

          Album Description

          The first recording project by David Nathan, known for as "The British Ambassador Of Soul" for his work as a reissue producer, author and R&B music historian, is a mixture of smooth jazz and pop standards with an R&B inflection. Seven of the nine tracks were recorded live in the studio with a quartet giving the music an intimate, personal feel. Songs range from the late night feel of standards like "Ev'ry Time To Say Goodbye" and "I Could Hsve Told You" to a Brazilian-flavored "Cry Me A River" and an accoustic reading of The Beatles' classic "Blackbird." Standout cuts include a nearly nine-minute very topical update of the 1969 Donny Hathaway track "Tryin' Times" with The Sweet Inspirations (backup group for Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin) and L.A. singer/rapper 4 To The S From The Midwestside. Saxophonist Najee adds his magic to "Angel Eyes"; while Nathan's bluesy take on the Billie Holiday classic "You Don't Know What Love Is" is smoulderingly moody. The ! CD also features an R&B-edged take on Aretha Franklin's "Runnin' Out OF Fools" (produced by Wayne Linsey, former of Maze) and an original composition by producer Preston Glass, "When Your Heart Whispers Love."
