The last time Bruce Springsteen gave up E Street for Folk Street, the band of fiddles, banjos, and accordions--sans audience--was recording 2006's We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions in the informality of his living room. This time the Boss takes his American-music foray to Ireland for a three-night stint on the north quay of Dublin's River Liffey. The 23 songs drawn from those performances cover most of the songs from the Pete Seeger tribute, but venture drastically into Springsteen's popular back catalog ("Atlantic City," "Highway Patrolman," "Blinded By the Light") while delving further into his affinity for multiple styles of music, from folk and blues to gospel and country. "If I Should Fall Behind" plays like a tear-jerking last call in a dimly lit pub. "Open All Night" has been shaped into pure swing, complete with pedal steel and sax. And "Jesse James," with its furious banjo, spectator handclaps, and Springsteen howl, could pass for the Pogues, circa 1985. A simultaneously released DVD uses nine cameras to capture every sweat-beaded highlight, from the tin whistle of "Further Up the Road" to an arena bursting out in a "We Shall Overcome" singalong. --Scott Holter

Powerful, raucous, joyful, heartbreaking.......2007-07-13
I'll echo the other reviewers and say that this is undoubtedly the best live CD I've ever heard, a testament to a combination of the music, lyrics, players, and timeliness of the message.
Springsteen is almost impossible to review, but I'll just say that, as much as I loved the Rising, Live in Barcelona, and Devils and Dust, the Seeger Sessions and this live album have taken him into a musical stratosphere that maybe only Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson can touch -- pure Americana.
Most of the other reviewers have adequately pointed out the highlights, but I'll say that the mournful dirge that the band transformed "When the Saints Come Marching In" to made tears stream down my face when I first heard this version, especially as it comes in the set after "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live". Folk music is as relevant as it ever was.
If you like any strain of Americana roots music -- blues, folk, jazz, gospel, Western swing, roots country, mountain/Scots/Irish music -- this concert will blow you away and make you sing with the crowd.
The best live CD I've ever heard.......2007-07-11
The Boss doesn't make bad CDs or bad concerts, I am told. I've wanted to hear him in concert since I heard his first songs. I actually was getting tickets to one of the shows that got cancelled due to a band member's illness and he's come to two cities--after I've left them. If I never make it, this CD is better than a lot of the live shows that I have been lucky enough to see.
I miss the E Street Band, but the Sessions Band he's gathered for this effort is excellent. His backup singers are soulful and the 17 piece band can handle anything from swing to Irish without missing a beat.
"Varied" is a mild description for this CD. Anyone else did this kind of concert, you'd have mixed reviews. Bruce can put folk next to swing next to gospel and then turn around and rock the house without ticking people off. He's also going international, doing American music right next to Irish traditional ballads and it appears the Dublin audience is eating it up.
Bruce breathes new life into the music here. I grew up hearing "Jesse James" but it wasn't like this. And "Jacob's Ladder" sure isn't what I heard in church.
He's also taken "Blinded by the Light" which was one of the first Bruce songs I heard and breathed new life into the live version.
"How can a poor man stand such times and live?" is one of the most heartwrenching protest songs I've heard. He really took the comments about the Dixie Chicks "Shut up and sing" to heart.
I don't like usually live CDs most of the time. Hate the staticky sussurus of the applause in the background and some idiot has got to yell the performer's name at least once per song. "Live in Dublin" is beautifully engineered. You get the 'feel' of the hall and the voices of the audience joining Bruce in song, yet the really annoying audience noise is minimized.
Terrific!!!!!.......2007-07-07
This Cd is just fantastic. I love it, and play it all the time.I think it is his best!! If you are are fan, you need to buy this Cd.
Best music from anyone in years!!!!.......2007-06-29
Bruce Springsteen's "We Shall Overcome- The Seeger Sessions" album, and this new one "Live In Dublin- With The Sessions Band" are both nothing but pure genious!!!! It's the best music that I have heard from ANYONE in any area of music, in many years! I absolutely love it!
I am so glad that I was able to experience this in concert, in the summer of 2006 near Chicago, IL. It was an experience that I will never forget. The music just captures you, and doesn't let go.
I have purchased both versions of "We Shall Overcome" (So glad to finally have "Buffalo Gals" & "Bring 'Em Home" on CD!). I also have "Live In Dublin" on CD, and the DVD too!
Keep this type of music coming Bruce! It's great!
springsteen at his best.......2007-06-24
I'm a springsteen fan for 25 years. saw already 8 concerts of bruce in the netherlands, also the session tour in my hometown rotterdam. for me, this is springsteen at his best. of course I like the rockin bruce but how he play this country/folk songs with so much passion and feeling, it touch me very much. no one can reach this level of making music. springsteen and country music. It's a great combination...."o mary don't you weep" is my favorite

There's a reason Barbra Streisand's 2006 tour broke the arena house record in every city it visited, and it's because she's not only a legend but (still) a performer who effortlessly twists intimacy and friendliness and fierceness into a perfect, sturdy braid. This two-disc set, which pulls performances from dates in New York, Washington, D.C., and Fort Lauderdale, will raise its share of goosebumps. For longtime fans, they'll be a reaction to songs Streisand hasn't touched since the '70s and earlier, including "(Have I Stayed) Too Long At the Fair?" and "Unusual Way," from the Broadway musical Nine. For relative newbies, they'll be a response to her between-song patter, which touches with grace, wit, and sincerity on everything from her love for her son to her political leanings to her limitations as songwriter. The voice, of course, enthralls--there it is glowing on "Carefully Taught," one of four songs that have never before appeared on a Streisand recording, and there it is again wrapping luxurious tones all around "Evergreen," one of three songs she shares with Il Divo. Streisand--diva, political dynamo, superstar--still knows how to orchestrate a showstopper. --Tammy La Gorce

STREISAND STILL THE BEST!.......2007-07-13
Barbara Streisand and Il Divo what more could you ask for! Her best album in years and with Il Divo on numbers like There's A Place For Us it gives you chills. Buy this and you will enjoy it full volume year after year!
Not the Best of Barbra.......2007-07-07
Streisand's lastest CD, *Guilty Pleasures* was a feast of songs she had never sung before, and a reunion with Barry Gibb, who writes for Barbra in a more contemporary way than the Bergmans or Marvin Hamlisch. It is a great CD, and her voice is sublime, aided, of course, by sound technicians. All artists owe their sound engineers their careers though. She and Barry have fun on it--it's fresh and alive. Not so much with the 2006 Concert CD, a recording of the concert tour, replete with IL Divo, a mostly unnecessary addition. They are wooden men with BIG, BORING voices.
From the beginning, Babs sounds tired, hoarse and raspy. I saw her in concert, where she sometimes sounded even worse than this recording. The engineers cleaned it up as well as they could, leaving more than a hint of breathiness and weariness. Fortunately, only about half of the songs are weakly rendered; the other half really are terrific experiences. I have no idea what is going on with her voice that from song to song there could be such differences, but if I were Streisand I would leave the belting behind. It wouldn't hurt for her to warm up before she comes onstage, not as she is giving the concert. For any price, a fan would expect the performer to be well prepared. When she sings a soft ballad, she often soars, and her magic is prominent. It's painful to watch her crumble under the memory of her once youthful voice (and it was only a few years ago that she sounded like a 25 year old songstress). Streisand knows how to play a song for all its worth, but she sometimes tramples it to death. *Don't Rain in My Parade* is just not what it used to be. She hits high notes, but without the characteristic force. And she can hold the notes, or seem to, when she takes little breaks before each song's finale. Her phrasing is impeccable when she is giving it all she has to give, but too often she seems bored. This is not a bad CD, just not as inspired as *The Concert.*
It also has to be said that it seems apparent Streisand is not taking care of her God-given voice, one she herself has said that she takes for granted (unimaginable!!).
The chatter inbetween songs is dull and preachy, and it was exactly the same in every city, except for blabbering about the fattening food she ate all across the US (excluded from the CD, thank the Lord). The fans are really the stars on this CD--they roar constantly, as if they had been starving to see Streisand all their lives. It's an odd treat. The orchestra is incredible, but live, it drowns her out at times (as does IL Divo). This recording does not relfect that though.
If you do not own *The Concert* CD, buy it and skip this one. This CD is for avid, adoration-is-blind Streisand fans only and those keeping track of Streisand's vocal history..
Streisand: Live in Concert (2 CD's).......2007-06-27
Whenever I hear Barbra sing it feels as if I were listening to an angel....The depth of her voice, the feeling she caries in every song she sings makes you fall in love, feel despair, feel hapinness or sadness....She is capable of making you feel the letter of her songs....A true Diva....My only regret is that I will never be able to see her live.....I hope they make a DVD of this concert so I can see her perform live at least on the TV set...
Streisand: Live in Concert (2 CD's).......2007-06-26
This concert is very unique.
You are able to hear her great, mellow voice and in between songs, she talk to the audience on a personal level.
Barbara explains why she sings some of her songs, and as she's talking, she makes you feel that she is talking directly to you.
Barbara Streisand is stylish, wonderful person and performer.
I LOVE these concert CD's!

Babs lets loose.......2007-06-13
I LOVE Barbra Streisand! I just needed to let that out. I am so happy that her wacky stage antics were finally set to music and it was captured like a baby leopard in Ghana. You never know what Babs is going throw at you. Is she going to come on stage dressed like a cowgirl riding a donkey? Is she going to shoot hot dogs otu of one of those hot dog shooting things? You never know and that is that magic of Babs. Her voice is about as good as Beyonce's, but she has better material. I'll usually grab the newest issue of Black Tail magazine, go to my treehouse and put this classic platter on. It is soothing to listen to Babs rock the mic like a fiend. I personally would have hired Burns to play keyboards on this tour because along with being a master of his craft, he's tall and will do nutty things on stage. There was this one time at an asschowder show where he wrote "right" and "left" on his pantlegs and did this bit where he pretended he couldn't tell which one was which before lauching into a floor exercise routine that would have won the silver at the Helsinki Olympics.
Anway, this is Babs being Babs, which is a treat for you. She and Hasselhoff should tour together and make the world a better place for all animals.

Longtime listeners have seen it coming: it was only a matter of time before John Mayer dropped the pop star pretense and proved he could really bring it. Chalk it up to one too many Dave Matthews comparisons, or the cupcake-sweet residue stuck to his image after the success of "Your Body Is a Wonderland"--but something convinced Mayer it was time to take him game to the next level. With help from studio pros Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino, he succeeds on Try. If the muscled-up covers of Jimi Hendrix's "Wait Until Tomorrow" and Ray Charles' "I Got a Woman" don't scream "no more Mr. Nice Guy" loud enough, the brawn of blues-rock opener "Who Do You Think I Was" does for sure. Mixed in with the Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton-esque stuff are a few mellow numbers--"Daughters," most notably, returns from Heavier Things alongside "Something's Missing"--but even those songs seem hopped up on rock-God hormones. This newfound sizzle can't fix everything; that segment of the music-buying public that would accuse the singer of having a voice like "a whispering midget" (to quote a customer review of Mayer's work) won't want to add this disc to their collection. The good news for Mayer, though, is that anybody with an ear for genuine rock'n'roll chops will. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Better than expected.......2007-05-30
John Mayer does have a lot of live albums for a guy who just put out his Jr. cd this past fall. But, hey...if you have the chops, and the raw muscial talent than people will listen, even if it's the same tracks. Mostly because he's the king of creative variation. This CD is better than I expected, and more edgy than some of his past albums.
There are old favorites here, but again- he never sings the same song twice, and has a lot of fun with his music! His music is so dam good people buy cd's with the same tracks just to hear them a different way!
Live Album.......2007-05-26
This isn't the first John Mayer cd Ive bought but I think it's the best. Hearing him live is a whole new experience.
Eh.......2007-05-13
Bought this CD primarily for one song and after a month or so it's the one that I primarily listen to :) ( I got a woman)
Maybe I should have gotten it for 99c from I-tunes
Not a bad album, but not GREAT imho.
Loved it!.......2007-05-13
Wow! But I am also a John Mayer fan. I really enjoyed this CD -- great combination of his own modern style and classic rock/blues. I liked every song on the CD.
Great guitar.......2007-05-07
For those of you who, like me, first heard John Mayer as another nasally, self-indulgent pop singer, this album is a revelation: excellent blues-rock guitar throughout and passionate renditions of Mayer songs. There's a delightful cover of Hendrix's "Wait Until Tomorrow" and an equally refreshing cover of a Ray Charles song. This album made me a believer in Mayer, even though I'm a long way from his generation.

Bruce Springsteen live in Dublin with the Sessions band.......2007-07-03
When I purchased the product, I believed it was a audio AND a video dvd. I received only the audio. Excellent buy, but I was mislead on the purchase of two items not just the audio.. Entire selection (audio) is teriffic.............
Springsteen in Dublin.......2007-07-03
This dual disc package (DVD & CD) is an excellent way to get a real feel for what this show in Dublin must have been like. The Boss was energetic and you could tell that he had a lot of fun with this project. The music is fun, yet serious, and so much so that even my 3 and 5 yr old kids LOVE the Seeger Sessions music!
Swing Out , Brothers and Sisters, Swing Out.......2007-06-24
"The fact is when Bruce kicked off at 20.30 pm on that Friday night in The Point Theatre, he played non-stop right to the very end very few performers can sustain such intensity and carry a gig off that would be to us punters unforgettable those night were UNFORGETTABLE!!!!!!!I thought Bruce was never gonna stop and the highlight of the night Bruce lying exhausted over the top of the piano as if he had not a breath left in the world. Dublin was a case of the time the music and the performer - A MOMEMT IN TRUE HISTORY FOR DUBLIN TOWN." IrishJohnny
"Live In Dublin' was one of those once in a lifetime events that we all wish we had attended. Every reviewer sings praise for this CD and DVD. Veteran concert goers and reviewers say this was the best concert they had ever attended. That is all well and good, but in the end Bruce Springsteen and the Sessions Band care about their fans. You can hear the fans singing along, 'Pay Me My Money Down ', 'Further On Up The Road', 'Erie Canal' and then there is 'Mrs McGrath' an obvious Irish favorite. Just when you think this CD could not get any better, the Boss kicks it up a notch. In fact I was singing along with the rest of'em. The ambience that the live audience gives to this CD is palpable. Springsteen and the audience must have shared the energy and the vibes from the Irish. You can feel the excitement in the air. I thought the Seeger CD was one of the Boss's best CD's, but the 'Live In Dublin' is undoubtabley the best. As my best friend has said, "This is one of the top five CD's ever".
Bruce Springsteen's manager Jon Landau said, "'Live in Dublin' charts the development of a band from an informal gathering in Bruce's living room to an onstage powerhouse. It also documents the growth in Bruce's vision of American music; it includes folk music, blues, Dixieland, country, swing, gospel, rock, down to and including his own writing. It's all performed with Bruce's classic energy and focus. I think it's some of the finest music he's ever made." The 23 songs on this CD are the best of the best. Included are many from his Seegers CD. They all belong in Springsteen's chest of dreams.
This CD and DVD are memorial for the emotions that are so evident in every song. Songs like the antiwar "Mrs. McGrath" and "O Mary Don't You Weep" benefit from these in-concert performances, "and a 17-piece band allows Springsteen to freewheel onto back roads" said Marty Lance. "If I Should Fall Behind" becomes a lovely waltz, "Open All Night" swings like Bob Wills, and "Growin' Up" and "Blinded by the Light" are new arrangements. "The high point, however, just might be "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live," the 1929 Blind Alfred Reed song that Springsteen has retrofitted with new lyrics about the government's bungling of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath. Bruce's connection to folk protest deepens, on the rewrite of "How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live". A Depression era classic that Springsteen found on a Ry Cooder album and then amended with his own brilliantly Bush-baiting verse is perhaps the most politically extreme and, as hammered home here, exultant performance of his career." Even more wonderful is "Eyes On The Prize", sung with Mark Anthony Thompson. "If I Should Fall Behind", a duet with Patty Sciafla, is one of my favorites, and "When The Saints Go Marching In" and "This Little Light Of Mine" rock free and easy. "In short, it's everything Springsteen's big-hearted thoughtfully impassioned take on Americana ever set out to be. Swing out sisters and brothers, swing out."

There are not enough superlatives in my repetoire to register the delight of this CD. I have played it many times and will soon listen again.
The New Boss Lives On.
Highly Heartily Recommended. prisrob 06-05-07

bruce morphing?.......2007-06-23
Back in the 70's and 80's I used to purchase all Bruce's records, collect all his bootleg albums, stand in line sometimes overnight to get tickets to his shows ... Ah! you get the picture.
But once the Born in the USA tour was over, Bruce went down the tubes (in my book). Yeah, he still did some great shows, but those memories faded fast. He seemed to be getting an attitude.
Here, however, he seems to have once again captured some of his earlier energy and commitment to the fans. This double-cd is great! He definitely has regained his knack (here) for musical arrangements that'll stand the test of time.
If you are a floundering Bruce fan, get this one; it'll be one cd you'll wear out. Well worth the money.
Will the real Bruce Springsteen please stand up?.......2007-06-11
I'm sorry, I've been a lifelong fan of Springsteen. I'm all ready to hear different interpretations of his music, but some songs just aren't meant for the banjo treatment. Bruce! Get a clue, they're not shouting "Bruuuuuccce" any more.... Just something that sounds like it. Don't get me wrong, the material he covered from Seeger influenced music is fine, not my favourite, but he covers it ok. Turning "If I should Fall behind" into a three-quarter time waltz... A song full of angst such as "Growing up" becomes a square dance with good old boys as the chorus... My ears are bleeding....

Album Description
Asia, featuring members of Yes, ELP and King Crimson, was the first "supergroup" of the eighties. Their eponymous debut album, released in 1982, was a huge success racking up global sales in excess of 15 million copies. In 2006 the original four members reunited for the first time in over 20 years for a series of concerts in the US and the UK. The success of this tour led to a full-blown world tour running throughout 2007 in celebration of their 25th anniversary. This CD was recorded in Tokyo in March 2007 on the Japanese leg of the tour. The companion DVD will be released in Fall 2007 on Eaglevision.

Captures their Great Sound.......2007-07-03
I saw the reunited Asia last year in Boston and this disc captures the great show that I saw.
They sounded great in Beantown and they sound just as great in Tokyo.
All the hits are here plus songs from each of their respected bands they played in before Asia.
It's a great live disc.
Check it out!
ASIA IS BACK-WELL WORTH THE MONEY.......2007-07-02
ASIA IS BACK!! The Original Members of Asia show after 25 years since release of the 1st CD and this CD shows they have not lost a thing.Wish they had recorded in different country as they would have had a much more enthusiastic audience.
Add another half star at least...They are back!!.......2007-07-01
Well, add another half star at least, despite of listening to a few "oldies" from the classic prog/romantic scene ("Roundabout", "In the Court of the K.C." and "Fanfare for the common man") being a bit strident in comparison to some more commercial/pop hit singles such as "Heat of the moment" or "A Ride easy", which could make me change idea aboout the present reunion...but it's a minor question, because except on strange execution of the above hits (e.g. "Heat of the moment", where S. Howe is not completely into the riff and the aggressive guitar sound of his original take of 1981) as well as within their difficult intro of "Time again" (belonging to a few progressive songs of their debut album here just a bit uneven), the other songs are performed with a good impact, especially by John Wetton, whose voice is almost aligned to his glory days!! I think of a band with such a great experience, even though the set of keyboards used by Downes is not always suitable for their oldies and Steve Howe sometimes seems to be a fish out of water (except on his fine Blues Intersection and of course in the harmonization inside "Fanfare for the common man, without forgetting the best guitar parts of "Roundabout"...). Palmer is a precise drummer (forget a few breaks through only where the whole band is not completely confident) and as usual excellent in his drum solo or once again within the classic instrumental track from "Works" by ELP.
Long Live Asia!!
Best Live Asia CD Yet.......2007-06-29
Asia has released numerous live cd's, all of them good, but most not having that signature sound from the original incarnation of the band. This one changes all of that. This is the band that deserves to carry the Asia name. The CD has all of the hits you would expect in addition to some solo stuff and tracks from various other bands they have been a part of, most notably Yes. The original Asia! Buy it!
Welcome Back, Steve Howe!!.......2007-06-26
Asia has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, so when I heard the original quartet reunited and recorded a live album, this attracted my interest. I've heard live CDs from other incarnations of Asia and the sound quality was lacking. For a live CD, the sound is good here. It could be better, but it could be a whole lot worse. Rather than a rehash of the first album, the band also decided to record one song from each of the band members' pasts. They do so with satisfying results. I wondered how Asia was going to pull off "Roundabout" since John Wetton doesn't "communicate with bats" like Jon Anderson can, nor does Jon Anderson have to play Chris Squire's bass lines, but John Wetton handled both vocals and the bass parts seemingly without effort. Geoff Downes is no Rick Wakeman, but he doesn't need to be. He held up his end. Sometimes Steve Howe gets lost in the mix, but the song sounds ok. The band delivered very well.
As the first reviewer mentioned, the acoustic versions of "Ride Easy" and "Don't Cry" are well done. I actually prefer the version of "Don't Cry" here to the original from "Alpha." Steve Howe plays the mandolin while John Wetton handles the acoustic guitar. The band also plays an acoustic version of "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" (also better than the original) with Steve Howe on dobro. Take away the studio gloss of their first three albums and you discover these guys are very good musicians. Steve Howe plays a variety of stringed instruments, John Wetton unplugs with an acoustic guitar, and Geoff Downes does very well with the piano. Carl Palmer plays flawlessly throughout as always. I don't think he ever has an off night.
Also noteworthy is the band's rendition of "In the Court of the Crimson King." Greg Lake was a fine singer in his day, but John Wetton outdoes him here. The thought of a four-piece band playing "Fanfare for the Common Man" intrigued me since ELP recorded it without guitars, but Asia makes it work. It's a bit ragged, but it doesn't suck. "Video Killed the Radio Star" is a fun listen, especially with John Wetton using a megaphone in places. Steve Howe gets a solo turn with "Intersection Blues" from his "Natural Timbre" solo CD. Good stuff.
Overall, a good CD well worth every penny spent. It's good to have the original quartet back.

Album Description
Journey: Live in New York is filled with the signature Richard Smallwood melodies, harmonies, and orchestral arrangements that listeners have come to expect and adore. Smallwood's musical genius blurs the lines between live audience and taped recording, transporting the listener to the actual event, rather than leaving them sitting in a spectator's position. And, just as always, Vision, the rich and vibrant choir, backs Smallwood to bring his songs to life. Journey: Live in New York, boasts guest appearances by Chaka Khan, Kelly Price, The Hawkins Family and more! This double CD also includes special enhancements and live concert video.

Excellence Personified!.......2007-07-05
Richard Smallwood's latest project, Journey: Live in New York, is his best work to date! It is an expressed representation of musical excellence that ushers you right into the presence of God! This CD set is a must have for any serious lover of gospel music.
Awesome.......2007-07-05
Ilove Richard Smallwood I have been a fan since I was 15 years old and this CD project was amazing I went to the actual concert in New York abt 3 years ago and I was amazed then as I do now. I belong to the church where Richard Worships and I sing in the choir that he consults (when he is in town that is) But I really love his style of music as it takes u there and if you are not careful you will find yourself underneath a church bench in the spirit. Si get this porject if you have not as this wa is absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not the typical Smallwood item.......2007-07-03
This is a 2-CD set. A lot of his past work is on the CD. There are several new songs that are nice but this is not his usual standard.
Richard Smallwood continues his Journey.......2007-06-16
A longtime fan of Professor Richard Smallwood - that, I am.
Smallwood possesses an unquestionable gift; one given to him by God and shared with the world through his passion and ministry of gospel music. The journey of Richard Smallwood (in song) became apparent to the world in the early 1980's, though he'd been singing since childhood and directing choirs since age 12.
Recorded, August 2005, the initial release date of this project was rescheduled, due in part to the loss of Richard's beloved Mother, Mabel Ruth Smallwood, whom he honors and credits highly with giving him his start in the art of music.
I was in attendance the evening of this recording and the atmosphere inside of the Hammerstein Ballroom, before the recording, was electric, to say the least. You see, New York City admires Richard Smallwood and to have him agree to record a live project on the richest island in the world, Manhattan, was an event!
You will find that this effort consists of not 1, but 2 CD's; one disc is enhanced with a video performance and before closing out disc two, you are treated to 3 bonus tracks. As much as I admire Professor Smallwood, while reviewing this product, I wasn't thoroughly inspired by what I heard until disc two filled the studio. Oh yes, "I'll Trust Him" on disc one, performed by Mr. Smallwood was excellent, but that was all. Vision, Smallwood's talent laden ensemble, start the ball rolling on disc two with a rousing anthem entitled "All The Glory"; it just gets better from there as special guests, Kelly Price, The Hawkins Family and new convert, Chaka Khan take the stage.
Overall, this offering from Richard Smallwood is acceptable, for it is he who is responsible for the movement and undeniable marriage of classical music to traditional gospel music; for that he will always be esteemed. My faves on Journey: Live in New York include, "I'll Trust Him", "All The Glory", "Morning's Breaking" and "Precious Is Your Name."

Richard wat happened?!.......2007-06-12
I will start of by sayin I am 17 and every since I was 6 I have loved Richard Smallwood, I would beg my mom 2 get me his cds. However when I heard he was doin I live recording back in "2005" I was so excited and then I was disoppointed by the 2 yr wait. I was so excited on June 5 I got in my car and rushed 2 walmart 2 get it. When I got 2 my car and heard the cd I was felt cheated and let down. I was so lookin foward 2 this cd and it only had 2 songs I liked and a 1:30 rip off praise break I felt cheated out of 15 dollars. In sayin all this I luv Richard but da cd sucks!

Album Description
His resume reads like a rock fan's wildest dream: frontman and main songwriter for FREE (founded with the late guitarist Paul Kossoff), BAD COMPANY, THE FIRM, SOLO & QUEEN. Paul Rodgers has been electrifying audiences since he hit #1 with his worldwide hit "All Right Now" co-written with Free. After six years with FREE, Rodgers formed BAD COMPANY with Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs. As the main songwriters they wrote all of the platinum records and #1 hits. While moving forward as a solo artist he took a slight detour and formed THE FIRM with LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page. He then continued as a solo artist and received a Grammy Nomination for his "Muddy Water Blues" CD on which he wrote the title track. In 2005 he joined forces with QUEEN and toured worldwide at QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS performing songs from both of their catalogues. He is currently proceeding on two fronts with QUEEN and as a solo artist. In '07, he will play ten exclusive US dates this spring and one summer date in Holland. For a man who prefers to keep a low profile, his talent still shines brightly.
Customer Reviews:
Paul Rodgers is still "the voice" of rock!.......2007-05-13
A great showcase of Paul's career, from the Free days to Bad Company,
The Firm, and his solo career, It would have been great if he got in
a song from his band The Law, but this CD is so packed with hits, The
Law won't be missed. He sounds great, the band rocks, and there is not
one dud on this CD. If you've enjoyed Paul's music over the years, you
will enjoy this Live set of songs, and of course, play it loud!
Paul Rodgers just gets better all the time.......2007-05-09
57 years old and he sounds *and* looks better than ever. I just saw him perform in Tacoma and he did an incredible two-hour, four-encore show that put the audience in the palm of his hand and never let us go. I loved this new CD before the concert and love it even more now. It's a great selection from all periods of his career so far. For the long-time fan it will be like revisiting some of the best moments of your past and finding out that it's still living and is even better than you remembered. For new listeners, it will be more powerful, positive, fresh, and alive than anything you've heard up till now, and it will make you a fan far into the future.
PAUL RODGERS - Best Male Vocalist Ever.......2007-04-20
I can't get enough of Paul Rodgers. His voice is angelic and smooth. Smokey and demands your attention. Free, The Firm, The Law, Bad Company, Queen and Solo. He is simply the best. This is a great live album with a good mix of tunes from most of his era's.
The thing I especially like about this CD is the return of Mr. Howard Leese. Original guitarist with Heart. Which ironically, Ann Wilson is the Best Female Vocalist Ever.
Everything Paul Rodgers touches turns to gold. Now if we could get rock stations to play new music by old guys, we'd be set.
Buy this CD!
FREE Again!.......2007-04-19
Well, obviously the best thing about this release is that Paul is digging back into FREE days.
Ten of seventeen tracks are reprised FREE songs, thank you Mr.Rodgers.
I first saw FREE in 1970, and Paul's voice is better now; though there can be no substitute for Koss ... his alter-ego.
This CD will get no media play...
A sad testimony to the state of ho' music airwaves....
Am I banned now?
100% Killer, 0% Filler.......2007-04-19
What a pleasant surprise. This set is an excellent companion piece to the hot live half of 1997's "Paul Rodgers: Now & Live." The set list is similar, but it's Paul's heaviest concert nod yet to his years in Free ("I'll Be Creepin', "The Stealer," "Ride On A Pony," "Be My Friend," "Fire And Water," "Wishing Well," "All Right Now," "I'm A Mover," "The Hunter"). There are also 4 Bad Company tracks ("Bad Company," "Feel Like Makin' Love," "Can't Get Enough," "Seagull") and one from the short-lived Rodgers-Page band The Firm, "Radioactive." Rodgers leads a band well-versed in his legacy through a total of 17 tracks, one of them new ("Warboys [A Prayer For Peace]"). Great selection of songs, Paul's in fine voice, the band is hot, what more could you possibly ask for other than "next day delivery from Amazon?"

Recorded at the historic Olympia Theatre in Paris in November 2001, this is Diana Krall's first live album. Backed by her quicksilver combo of bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, and guitarist John Pisano (on some tracks), Krall's jazz heritage comes through loud and clear on this program of standards, ballads, and bossa novas. On Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here with You," Bob Dorough's "Devil May Care," and Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon," Krall's snappy, postbop piano playing shows off her debt to Nat "King" Cole and Jimmy Rowles. Her cool contralto vocals are illuminated by the Orchestre Symphonique Europeen, under the direction of Alan Broadbent, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Claus Ogerman. Krall's deep take on Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" is a great choice for an encore, and the CD concludes with Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" (a studio track from a film called The Guru), with tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker and bassist Christian McBride. This collection only hints at what Diana Krall has to offer in the future.--Eugene Holley Jr.

Diana Krall at her best.......2007-06-20
Hoppin', jazzy live performance -- my favorite Diana Krall CD.
you know that.......2007-04-12
shush shuh shuh shuh sound that new cordoroy pants make? Well that's what Krall sounds like wiht her sibilant "s". Is she singing through false teeth?
Very Enjoyable and that's all that matters..........2007-02-24
For those reviewers trying to compare Diana Krall to people like Sarah Vaughn... forget it!!! She's not Vladamir Horowitz or the Pope either!!! To give her a low rating based on that is absurd.
This is a very very good Jazz band and Diana Krall swings. She plays well and she does an incredible amount with the voice that the maker gave here. The album is very enjoyable to me and it's a good place to start if you want to hear Diana Krall.
Is she great? That question is so subjective and who cares anyway. One reviewer suggested that calling her great was disrespectful to the great Jazz singers. Popular singers like Diana bring attention to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn and Sinatra etc... People start with Diana and move backward from there... 5 stars from this reviewer!!!
Not a fan of live albums, but this one's energy shines through.......2007-01-19
Diana Krall is amazing no matter whether she's live or in studio recording. This is her first live album and is based on a lot of jazz standards. What I like is this has the energy of a live album, but someone has engineered most of the audience sussurus out.
terrific band.......2007-01-19
I do enjoy Ms. Krall's singing but for me it's the incredible interplay between the musicians (including Krall's piano) the merits the 5 stars. I acually have the DVD which I highly recommend. Anthony Wilson not only plays brillantly but gets the best guitar tone of any other live recording I've heard. Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton are tight and telepathic - pure genuis in rhythm. Both Claus Ogerman and Allan Broadbent offer great arrangements and work the Orchestra deftly. And Diana sings. The production is perfect. This could not be any better.

Recorded over four-nights in front of a sold-out hometown crowd at Chicago's historic Vic Theatre in 2005, Kicking Television: Live In Chicago is the first official live release from Wilco. It's remarkable to think that a band so well known for for its richly varied, inspiring live sets waited so long to get one these things out. At the same time, it's a little foreign hearing songs that once felt like personal treasures, plus a set-closing cover of Charles Wright's "Comment," handed over to the masses - the quietly disturbing "Misunderstood" is transformed into an audience sing-along, "Handshake Drugs" becomes a communal jig, and "Heavy Metal Drummer" a certifiable party anthem. Luckily, the whoops and clinking cocktail glasses can't take away from Jeff Tweedy's compelling laments or the band's full-throttle charge, particularly on a knuckle-gripping reworkings of "A Shot In The Arm" and "Ashes of American Flags." --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
Kicking Television-Live in Chicago, recorded over four nights in May at The Vic Theatre. "It's really the best it's ever felt," said Jeff Tweedy to the Detroit Free Press earlier this year. "I would say at this point, I don't think I've ever been in a band that's felt this connected and unified with this collective vision." To document that collective vision that band called upon veteran mixing engineer Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash) to capture the energy, excitement, clarity and musicality that has earned Wilco continued praise for their live shows around the world.

Burns like a Sparkler!.......2007-05-23
Disc #1 ******
Disc #2 **
There is always pressure on great "live" bands to release that one live album. Loyal fans of course will scream 'till they are blue in the face that they will never be able to capture that feel from actually being there and seeing it live. I think that is generally because the people that have actually seen the band live like to separate themselves from the masses, you know, feel special and all. Well, after listening to the first disc of this album you are ready to tell those prima donnas, hey, they are doing it! The first disc is magic. There are three songs on it that I might not have chosen, but overall, tremendous, shines bright. However, the second disc sees the band go into a lot slower numbers that could cause one to scratch their head. It's not that they are bad songs, just that they are not anywhere close to being rockers, which is kind of what I am looking for at a concert. The Sparkler starts to burn out a bit. Although, "Poor Places" and "Airline to Heaven" really do shine bright. Of course, how a song like "I'm Always in Love" does not make it on this release is a mystery to me, arguably Wilco's biggest crowd pleaser. Overall, the release is solid, showing excellent musicianship, but disc 1 proves quite superior to disc 2. So, if you were to rip a disc for your car stereo, you might want to lean on that more.
Incredible.......2007-02-01
Better than studio albums. Really good song flow. Can't believe i missed going to see them when they came to town. dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
Need a 48th opinion?.......2007-01-03
I need there to be at least 48 reviews of this album so that I can sleep at night. That is all. Oh, and Wilco stirs an emotion within me similar to that of unicorn giggles.
How about a decent guitar solo?.......2006-12-19
Count me among the big fans of Uncle Tupelo and Wilco's early work. I stayed with them through A Ghost is Born and even bought the two Loose Fur CDs, all of which have some great songs on them. But, more and more often, I find myself going back to Being There and Mermaid Avenue and, in the process, I've grown kind of numb to Wilco's new sound. I don't blame Tweedy for trying to innovate, but, to my ears, Wilco has reached a point where experimentation has gotten in the way of their music. This is evident in a number of places on Kicking Television.
I like parts of nearly every Wilco song, but a good portion of their new songs unravel into a complete unlistenable mess because, it seems, Tweedy feels the need to buck convention at every turn. "Spiders" is a perfect example of this. Another example is "Misunderstood." Hearing Tweedy scream "nothing" 35 times might be fun when you're drunk at a concert, but not everytime you listen in your living room. And I can't figure out why nearly every guitar solo with the new Wilco is either an indistiguishable wall of noise or a screechy mess. I am all for innovation, but just play the thing already!
Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs here. Not surprisingly, my favorites are "One on One" and "Airline to Heaven," both of which are more reminiscent of their earlier work. Also, their live sound is somehow much fuller than their studio work and most of their songs from Ghost sound better because of that. However, as a whole, Kicking Television is a bit frustrating for me.
Similar to how U2 experimented in the 90s with the uneven Zooropa and Pop, Wilco is willing to take a chance and I will give them some credit and slack for that. But after Blue Sky Blue, this Wilco fan will be hoping for more "Kingpin" and less "Kidsmoke."
wilco songs come to life.......2006-09-22
If you are a fan of Wilco, and especially if you have never seen them live then you must own this cd! With a set list based largely on "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" and "A Ghost is Born," you might not think of buying this. YHF is a love-or-hate album, and maybe not the best intro to this band since it's more experimental than their previous work. But the songs really come alive and take on a new dimension when they are played live. Wilco is a really tight band. I had always loved them but when I saw them live for the first time (twice in the same week in New Orleans on the Ghost tour,) I was blown away. The first few times I heard Ghost, it fell a little flat, maybe because I had anticipated it so much and it didn't seem to have quite the same edge as YHF. But hearing the Ghost songs live has really changed my opinion and now I love that record equally, if not more than the other Wilco records. Certain songs really jump out as my favorites here: "Misunderstood," "Via Chicago," (a song they have played countless times but this version really grabs me...) and surprisingly "Company in My Back" and "Hell is Chrome," 2 songs I hadn't thought much of before. I'm going to see Wilco again very soon, thankfully they are on tour again! If you can't catch a show, check out this record, it will give you an idea of why their live shows are so acclaimed.

Classy.......2007-07-03
This is a nice set of music. You will be uplifted and won't be disappointed.
Simply Beautiful.......2007-05-28
I bought this project after hearing a few samples and I knew this CD had to be in my collection.
The production on this CD is simply and not overdone; the harmonies and the instrumentation are beautiful in a way that incorporates you in the presence of God.
Buy this CD and you will not be disappointed...
This was not recorded live in Kenya..........2007-05-15
Good music here...great presentation. But this was not recorded in Kenya - as the album states. It was instead recorded live at the Potter's House in Dallas with some instrumentation recorded in the studio. I know...it's disappointing to hear that. By the way, most of these songs are covers...not original songs. Several artists have recorded these songs and that hurts the album's value a bit. But the choir sounds very good and there's some great singing on board.
HIghly recommended.......2007-05-09
If you love Africa and you love gospel music then this is for you! Bishop Jakes features in great form but so do the Potter's House choir, with their forays into Kiswahili much appreciated by the Kenyan audience. My own favourite tracks go from the energy of 'Celebrate' to the fervour of 'Grace' and the invitation to victory in 'Praise is my weapon'. I hope there will be more CD's of this quality and Biblical accuracy.
A Very Spiritual Uplifting CD.......2007-04-11
Wow, the Potter's House Choir really shows out in Kenya. There is music on here to uplift any situation. Just simply enjoy the experience. I felt as though I was there with them. Praise the Lord in Kenya with the Potter's House Choir and T D Jakes and your soul won't be disappointed.
