Album Description

The Bugz, as they are so adoringly called by their ardent fans, may or may not be electronic music's largest production team (in terms of number of members) but they are arguably one of its most exciting. "Family members" Orin Walters, Seiji, Kaidi Tatham, Daz-I-Kue, Alex Phountzi, Cliff Scott, Mark Force, Thy Lord and Mikey Stiron have as individuals and as a group produced some of the genres most inspired, soul tinged breakbeat to ever grace wax.

Highly esteemed scene stalwarts in the burgeoning category of electronica known as "broken beat", the Bugz unique sound has evolved from a collective rebellion against genres. A typical Bugz single will incorporates a wide range of styles and influences from afro-beat, to house, to jazz, to 80's Soul. This paradigm and a desire to make music that stands on its own regardless of classification has resulted in the collective producing some of electronic music's most stirring compositions of late and high accolades worldwide.

Fabric Live 12 is a magnificient trip into the Bugz eclectic, electric circus. A top notch, skillfully mixed offering fraught with soul tinged funk and teeming with musicality! …Live 12 is infectious and a must listen from beginning to end.

5 out of 5 stars This is a bada** mix.......2005-05-22

Hands down, this bugz collection has to be one of the best mixes I've heard in a very very long time. When you put the chilled breakbeats, percussive rap, house, and funked up remixes together the flow is unbelievable. Some of the standout tracks are focus having your fun, seiji ft. lyric L -loose lips, and the re-edit of N'dambi's Call me. This is a bada** cd.

5 out of 5 stars worth the MONEY.......2004-05-22

definitely.

This is truley unique stuff. I'm a huge 2step and UK Garage fan, but also like downtempo electronic music. This stuff ain't no normal trip hop or other "downtempo" chill out music. Its breaks and bassey sounds are funky as hell. And its a fantasticly crafted DJ mix set to boot.

5 out of 5 stars Hooray for this one!.......2003-12-10

I hadn't even HEARD of Bugz in the Attic before I bought this release. I read about it in Mixmag, a U.K. magazine, and just had to give it a try. It was worth it!

Bugz in the Attic is a breakbeat music collective from England. These breaks are something else. It is slower than other styles of music I listen to, but still moves along at a nice clip (not "chill" music).

I am loving this CD and am listening to it right now, for the umpteenth time. The songs are pieced together from some really interesting samples, while maintaining their groove, soul and funk. This is the new era of funk. Even progessive DJs are getting back to their breakbeat roots these days.

So give this one a try if you're looking for something new. This is good for electronica fans, dancers, soulchilds and anyone else who likes to groove on good music.

2 out of 5 stars Unimpressive Mixing, Decent Track Selection.......2005-03-09

It could've been so good if only it all came together. The first four tracks are each interesting, character pronouncing, string based and/or ambient wonders. 'Heart Noir' has drums that sound like they're being played out of a cave, and feature pretty much the only scratching you'll hear on the disc, while the first track is nothing more than building atmospheric soundscapes, which is cool. But the mix from 'Heart Noir' to the string tribute to Bjork's 'Come To Me' is jarringly amateur. Actually, most of the mixing is pretty standard here. There are basically only a few instances here and there of competent and adequate mixing, let alone anything artistic, but the most horrific fault of this compilation is in its track selection. It goes from well-chosen, interesting, eclectic downtempo to mind numbing minimal house, from rich, sampled drum loops to oily slick, synthetic symbol taps that would put a crack addict in a coma. After track 12, this reviewer found it hard to not just abandon the groove and stare off into space to think about how long it's been since his last girlfriend and how bad off financially he is [he did just get laid off earlier that day]. Aside from the cello of Still Phil's 'Bey Un Bey,' the mix ends on a selection of somewhat cheesy biscuits with no discernable character among 'em. The combination of the toe-stub mix from 3 to 4 and the sleepy house later on makes it really hard to totally submerge oneself in this art gone wrong of a cash cow instalment in the Fabric series. Nice packaging, though...

4 out of 5 stars One of Fabric's best.......2005-02-26

Helluva mix. After hearing (seemingly) thousands of mixes from across the musical spectrum, it's only natural to become exceedingly judgemental. For me, there are tons of live mixes and friends mixes available for free that are usually better. But the Fabric and FabricLive series are, by far, the best commerically available mix comps out there.

Like the other reviewers state, AoS give the mix a certain flow, a nice pleasant kind of melacholic vibe to start. The standout track for me is geche - moonsomething. It's a quirky trip-hop record which they mix very well from a beatless symphony track.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2003-11-16

This CD is simply incredible. At first, I wondered how this would sound, since I recognized a few of the artists on this mix and that ussually turns me off a bit. But I swear, this CD went from track 1, to track 18, and I loved every minute. I went from being so chilled out to wanting to step inside Fabric itself and just groove. I love this.
