Looking for a different taste of jazz, hip hop and soul........2006-02-02
It's refreshing to hear a genre in the music industry that has'nt been taited by the formula that if a certain sound sells jam it down the publics hears regardless of substance. The best of this Acid Jazz delivers especially for those who can appreciate jazz instrumentation,a solid hip hop back beat,a latin soul groove, funky club mixes and mellow R&B vocals all together in one style of music. This music brings everything to the table and can be enjoyed in any setting, I purchased six CDs so far in this series including the Verve Remixes and I will tell you that after hearing these tracks smooth jazz sounds like the high school band.
Seems kinda weak to me...........2004-01-13
I just bought this cd a couple of weeks ago, and while some tracks stand out as being cool, a lot of them on here are either really corny or straight unlistenable. I was hoping for a lot more "fusion" type tracks, a la hip hop or house or something. But I was disappointed. Maybe a lot of the tracks were before that whole trend. Perhaps this is just not quite my thing, but this isn't really a whole lot like the other stuff I listen to, i.e. st germain, jazzanova, mr. scruff, etc. which I had considered to be "acid jazz." Maybe I'm wrong.
What a Compilation!.......2002-01-19
i love it, what else is there to say? The best is Mitch Moses' song Lonely Blues but there are so many great songs on this two CD set. i think there is only one song i don't care for and it isn't like i hate or anything. i highly recommend this CD as a good intro to Acid Jazz (which there ain't enough of in my opinion!)
An Excellent Overview.......2001-12-18
I am at best a dilitant when it comes to acid jazz, but this is an excellent collection for someone who is interested in the genre. The mix of songs have a bit of flavor from almost every other music style, and yet taken as a whole, is a very cohesive ensemble. You definitely get an idea of the range of possibilities as well as some guideposts for seeking out specific artists or sub-styles.
Funkisized.......2001-10-30
This was my first taste of acid jazz and it left me wanting for more . I'm more used to the Rippingtons and Spyo Gyra so this extensive 2 CD survey gave me a good "wiff" of the range of styling and composition . The riddims are great for road cruisin' in the car CD and just chillin'. The case is flimsy though and one track skipped. Lots of grooves for the $$ .

A hot double CD.......2000-11-14
Jungle Sky never fails in putting out HOT underground jungle. With DJ Souslinger on the team you can't lose, and The Return of Shft by 1.8.7. is one of my personal all time favorites. Not a disappointment. Get it!

Long time fan of the jungle sky cd's.......1999-03-16
This is a fab compulation of the best artists. I think this is one of the best if not the best jungle sky, up there with the first. Its a good mix of soft and hard beats a little to suit everyone and a lot to suit the true jungle lover.

I LOVE NY is, in my opinion, the best of the 6 jungle sky volume series. Always a favorite at house parties and also a perfect cd to pump up the friends in the car on the way to a rave. Good for long night drives too. Dj Wally is the man so check out his CD "The stoned ranger rydes again". Totally rad cd. Peace

How much do you care about the US Jungle scene?.......2002-11-01
Alright, check this out. Whatever the hell this guy from Ft. Collins is talking about, you shouldn't listen to. Firstly, I lived in Washington DC for a few years, so I know my music, plus I've been producing for 3 years, and Djing. I have seen Soulslinger live, and he and TC Izlam are possibly one of the best sets I've ever seen...most definately in my top 10. I have also seen Ming + FS, who are on this album, and they are just as amazing.
Here's what I can't stand...people who are obviously not into many sounds of the genre make their comments, and ruin it for the average possible buyer. If it were ANY OTHER album, I probably wouldn't even care, but I had to say something here.
Soulslinger is honestly one of the hardest working people in US Jungle, and has given his whole life and career to the scene, especially when you note the fact that he is now in his mid-50s. Because of people like the aforementioned critic, Jungle Sky has now fallen apart, which was around before Breakbeat Science, might I add. If anyone in their right mind gives a care about US Jungle, you'll forget what that guy said, and buy this CD, and anything else from Jungle Sky, especially 1.8.7.'s releases.
Not saying that this is a CD you should buy out of sympathy...its pretty damn good. The hip-step (1st disc) is actually pretty tight. Tracks 2 (by Hive) and 10 (Odi & G-Force) are my favorites, and hit VERY hard (the bass on 2 might blow your system, if its good). The 2nd disc is just NASTY, the track by Reid Speed and FS (S.I.M.P.L.O.T.) is insane, plus the Ezra Opt (Suspect) and Burner Brothers (Spit Fire) tracks.
Bottom line. If you remotely like the US SOUND, buy this.
Not enough silver lining on the dark clouds in this Sky.......2001-02-07
I picked this up because it seemed like a good price for a double-CD compilation. Unfortunately, it's not a good deal if the majority of the content is mediocre, which for my taste it is. This collection contains full songs, not mixed together, but with very little space inbetween, so the flow is almost unbroken. In the liner notes, Soul Slinger proffers some dubious philosophy.
Disc 1, the "Hip Step Disc", consists of alright rapping, excessive cussing, and almost nothing of redeeming value. Yellow Note's "The World Is A Jungle (Livia's Philosophy)" is the gleaming exception, based on some nifty reggae samples. Some other tracks are okay, like "Mirror Image" by Dstar featuring MC Steele, but most of the songs tested my endurance.
The "Liquid Step Disc" is markedly better than the first disc. The music is not spectacular, but it sometimes toys with interesting ideas. For instance, in the last track DRUM FM sets Johann Sebastian Bach's "double violin concerto in D minor" to frenetic beats topped with bleeps and bloops. And in "Spit Fire", the Burner Bros. deliver a pleasing concoction of jazzy "intelligent jungle" with classic drum & bass energy.
Overall, though, the bad tracks outweigh the good on this 2CD set.
Can I get a Rewind!!!!.......2000-11-23
If you've been keeping up with the whole "This is Jungle Sky" series, get ready to be suprised. It seems almost impossible, but the Jungle Sky crew does it again. "This is Jungle Sky Vol 7 - Jah Nezah" is a double cd set that will have you on the dance floor calling for the rewind. The first disk, titled "Hip Step Disc," sucessfully manages to combine hip-hop elements with solid, no-gimmick drum and bass. Original tracks from Ming + FS and tracks featuring T.C. Islam make up this disk, not those drum and bass remixes of already popular "rap" titles we've all heard a billion times before. The second disk, "Liquid Step Disc," is all Jungle Sky doing what they've always done and taking drum and bass to the next level. This CD is an excellent CD to add to anybody's drum and bass collection, or a good CD to begin building one with!

Yes, first Jungle CD I ever heard was these crazy motherf%$#ers in NYC. The best compilation features 2 remixes by T-Power, Look Jerk Sound System, Kingsize, Emerald Cricket, DJ X-plorer, Jason Jinx and the ever present DJ Soul Slinger. A must have for any Jungle junkie!!!

This cd is full of some really good tracks. Good mix of hard/soft beats and ambient/jungle music. Worth a listen for sure, don't know about the rest of the series though.
