Customer Reviews:
great singers, great songs.......2006-05-03
Some of broadway's best singers are on this album, including Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debbie Gravitte, Marin Mazzie, and Rebecca Luker. (The cd is worth buying for Rebecca Luker's song alone!) The songs are beautifully orchestrated and sung. Most are light hearted and fun, leaving me with a good feeling when listening.
If you're a fan of broadway showtunes, I believe you'll enjoy this album.

chunky funky spanky ranky.......2001-11-21
It is true, this is a dark album. It's dark like when the lights are out and car headlights flood your room for a second and then vanish. This is a special album because it has such a beautiful cover that glimmers like fish scales. I don't think this is as good as his first album under the Disjecta name (probably taken from a book by Beckett), but it is a moving and powerful album.
Where did Clifford go? No one knows. Maybe he works in real estate now. It's hard to know. It's hard to care. Nevertheless, buy this rather than the new Aphex Twin, because it's better, and not as long.
Beauty is often dark.......2001-07-23
The reviewer below who find this record bad and compares it to food poisoning seem to have a very narrow concept of beauty. In fact, this is one of my favorite electronica albums ever, for some of the same reasons that s/he dislikes it.
It is dark, yes, but hey, I know (and love) music that is a lot darker than this. This record balances between the dark and the light, the cold (beats) and the warm (melodies). It is moody, melancolic and tremendously beatiful. It is vintage Warp material, and it still sounds brand new.
If you like Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada or Autechre, you should not leave out this less known masterpiece.
Thoroughly Disappointing and Depressing.......2000-05-29
I was really looking forward to hearing this Seefeel side project, and given the vintage (early 1996 Warp), it should be just great.
What I found was almost nothing but despair and depression. All but two tracks on this album (Gammi and Kracht) have some sort of forlorn, dark, distant melody. Tracks like Conviction Hic and Pit sound like the music of blind fish in an underground cave filled with blood. Ack.
The percussion is decent and sounds much like Seefeel, but borrows a lot from Autechre and Aphex. (I gave this CD two stars because of the nice crunchy drum tracks.)
I have no idea what "Clean Pit and Lid" as a title is supposed to mean. But Mark Clifford of Disjecta has created the perfect soundtrack for how you feel when you've got food poisoning. Maybe even Clifford himself hated this music, which could be why he disappeared after releasing it.
There is a plethora of better music on Warp to explore. Avoid this album like the plague, and I'm not even close to kidding.
f*!#?ing beautiful..........1999-03-30
imagine yourself in a cave miles below the earth's surface... focusing only on the sounds of water dripping in the void. clean pit and lid is the echo of every droplet bouncing off of the cold, alien walls: filling every crevace with the texture of sound.
