Bassic Instinct series creator Oli Roesch (a.k.a. DJ Deluca) is back with the third installment of the Futurelounge series, proving that sometimes the phrase "more of the same" isn't such a bad thing. Fifteen tracks from almost as many labels cover the chill-out playing field. Standouts include chiming, scatty jazz from 19-year-old Hungarian Yonderboi, dub poet Mutabaruka's rolling drums, a Basement Jaxx-y number from Jazz Transit, lush downtempo from French one-man band A Reminiscent Drive, and the always funky Deadly Avenger in slightly more relaxed mode. The only misstep occurs near album's end, with a wooden performance from Glasgow Underground's Airfix. Thankfully, Astrud Gilberto beams in a typically supple vocal from 1965 to save the day. --Bob Michaels

Solid Lounge Compilation .......2005-04-02
Stereo Deluxe is a label that really saw it's time come and go. The label was probably at it's height in the end of the 90's up to maybe 2002 and shortly after with the release of Mo Horizon's last major album. Other artists on their label include Funky Lowlives, Bobby Hughes Combo and Boozoo Bajou. They also have several series of compilations that came out - some could argue they were a bit too frequent and thus cannibalistic. Where the label's going, I'm not sure, as they have joined with Ministry of Sound Germany now (think Brazilution), so we'll see what the future holds.
This is one of them - the third edition of the Future Lounge series. It starts out spectacularly with Pablo's jazzy urban affair in "Reincarnation". That's followed up nicely by Jaffa's album version of "Elevator". Next up is a cut that won't be foreign to Hotel Costes Fans, as Hacienda kicks up the pace with "Late Lounge Lover". Albeit not my favorite track, but it's a good energy beat and cool for the lounge. Other tracks that stood out was another Costes favorite, "Ambrosia" by A Reminscent Drive. Trio Eletrico's "Return of the Coconut Groove" is twinged in a Thievery Corporation/ESL mold - perfect for the time of this album. And Airfix's track ws cool, albeit pretty slow, and Astrud Gilberto's "Maria Quiet" is loaded with class - I love this version and even with Rosalia De Souza's, it's just not as cool as this one. But despite these good songs, there was still a healthy dosage of filler and Yonderboi's "Padaman" was grossly overused at this time - on everything from Ministry chillout to Ministry knock-offs and competitors.
In the end, I liked this album and had value in it from Pablo and a few of the other tracks. I have great memories from the time I got this, and remember when I got this. However I also collected Stereo Deluxe's "Bassic Instinct" series which actually had some of the same cuts as this one had, and others in thne Future Lounge series. Admittedly there are other compilations that were out at this time (2000) that were more than capable rivals like Serve Chilled, Om Lounge and even the early (and arguably best) days of Hotel Costes. These tracks are stand alone too - not mixed or cross faded. A welcome and underrated format!
A cd to sit back and just cool out with........2004-05-12
This is the cd that you can just put on your stereo and just relax to. Its a great way to get all of that built up stress from the week out of your system. I definately recommened this cd if you're into this kind of music!
good compilation of what's popular in the lounge space.......2001-03-11
If this were food, it would be sampler hors d'oeuvres. Most of it is acid jazz/lounge/Brazillian/Vienna influenced whatever you want to call it, but not trip hop and not house. Mostly instrumental and mostly soft beats. This would sit nicely next to Costes, Tosca, Hedkandi, Naked Music, Compost, ESL, etc. The things I don't like: not mixed, two tracks are misfits: 9 comes on too loud as a French Disco number, and the cheezy vocals and accoustic melody on track 14 are so out of place it makes me drop what I'm doing to hit next track, because there's a cool song from Astrud Gilberto to finish the disk.

Look forward to this.......2003-02-13
The title of this recording is interesting. I found the music to be a bit more epic than restful, although the pace is relaxed throughout. The music seems to be more of a lonesome adventure, at times, but even the remoteness of some tracks still maintain a certain warmth and mystery. The overall ambience is similar to the dark Mohagany Nights albeit without the celestial, operatic splendor. With 'Nights we are immersed in an indoor ambience of secret chambers and luxurious rooms; listening to Future Lounge is more like arriving in courtyards and even desolate outposts. In such tracks as "Isfahan Days", the sitar is sparse and reappears refreshingly like a rare flower in the desert. "Paisley Strats" is the most unique piece and probably the highlight. The prominent stringed instrument (guitar of some kind?) flows into some nice sitar notes and later soft clapping and percussion. This recording is no exception: Al Gromer Khan's music can gift the listener with warm exotica without making us feel like an uncomfortable tourist. Instead, we feel a familiarity with the material, yet maintain a sense of wonder. The liner notes read that this "music is to be enjoyed at low volume from an adjacent room." I'm not sure if that's a prescription from the artist or just a statement of humility. Careful and repeated listening to Future Lounge will reap benefits as well.
An abstract state of timelessless.......2002-08-29
"Future Lounge" has recaptured the essence of Al Gromer Khan's gentle meditational drift for me. Overall less industrial than "Lexus", his most recent work has some wonderful sitah and meditational composition (particularly track 3 onwards). But the album also has tracks with some beat and a hint of his former work (particularly "Lexus").
However, maybe not the taste for all, as this is quite different to the popular "Space Hotel" or his more sitah based music. However, in keeping with Al Gromer Khan's creation of "Paisley Music", this work has that open, abstract state of timelessless. In this sense the artist presents an esoteric listening lounge for the future.

much better than volume 1!.......2002-12-25
gosh, somebody up at future lounge must have been paying attention to sales of the first album b/c this is a great improvement. that last one wasn't lounge - especially of the future! Vol 2 transcends this genre with some very nice notable tracks, they include:
organic monday
cascabel
metti una sera...
funky construct
tell the girls...
It's abstract, it's vocal, it's trendy, it's lounge, and most of all, it's worth a buy.

Simply brilliant!.......2004-10-11
This is without a doubt the best lounge series ever. Better than Hotel Costes, far better than Om, and any others I've heard. Way ahead of their time and timeless - where's volume 4?
not a good intro to future lounge at all!.......2002-12-25
Night over Manaus was the only track I liked on this cd! It's not worth it. Please, if you want a good lounge cd, check out OM Lounge - their serious is extremely well put together. This was awful. The tracks were borderline too weird and just way too repetative and annoying. Hardly what one would call future lounge. This one is just not worth it.
