Italo Hi-NRG at its Best.......2000-07-08

You won't find a better compilation CD series that best represents Italo Hi-Nrg than this series of CD's. All songs are in their original extended 12" versions. What I enjoy about this series is that the producer selected songs that are not easy to find on CD (ie. Eugene, Max Coveri, Bo Boss, and Deborah Haslam). As a collector of Italo Hi-Nrg from the 80's, I can say that I thoroughly enjoy this CD and the others in this series.

Excellent collection.......2004-10-31

I find this collection the best among the three available Italo Rarities releases. The Italo Disco movement presented many single-driven artists (or models who "sang" with someone else's voice) who never released full-length albums, so it can be hard and rather costly to track down all these out-of-print vynil-only singles. Sometimes I get lost on Italo disco fan web sites, as there are so many songs out there and all on singles. So to have a compilation that captures the essence of the movement and presents digitally-remastered fantastic sound of that period in European music history is very valuable. Song selection is great - there are some rare hits and rare original long versions of those songs. My Jazmine China Girl, Wings of Love, I Find a Way are among my favorites here. The only wrong choice on these two discs is the updated 90s version of Lift Me Up by Scotch - the rhythm, the rap, sampling of YMCA (who knows why) do nothing to me. Other than that, I can play the whole collection without skipping. I cannot say the same about volumes 1 and 3 of the series, as selection on those seems quite random and offers more songs from Eurobeat period which really marked decay of Italo Disco as a genre in early 90s, targeted primarily Asian market and literally milked the record-buying audience with multiple albums and singles from the same studio artists appearing under different names and singing one long annoying melody, copying the formula as it was an assembly-line production. So it is very refreshing to hear tracks by Grant Miller, Roger Meno, Linda Jo, Mozzart in untouched versions. Some of these songs appear on The Best Of Italo Disco series, but there you get either radio verions or unfairly cut long versions when you hear a great long intro, and then the song fades out after second chorus. That's because original Best Of Italo Disco was released on double LPs, which was too long for one CD and too short for two. I would rather pay for two but not be disappointed with reduced length of the tracks. I still have them all :)

I'm a huge fan of the ZYX Music label, but this collection is just a lot of throw away 80's crap from their archives. I only recognize two songs "You're my Love, You're My Life" and "Baila Boléro" from the clubs. The rest of these songs are really so-so. "Relax Your Body" is really nice and "Droid" is fun, but the rest of this two CD collection is junk junk junk. If you find it for cheap (say, $6.00 or less) the go ahead, but don't even THINK of paying any more then that.

If you love the New Wave music from the 80s, this 2-CD set should be in your collection. There are 24 songs, and the average length is about 5 minutes. Some of my favorites include You're My Love, Your My Life (Patty Ryan), and Don't Cry Tonight (Savage).
