Not worth the price.......2006-03-17
The CD is very nice and quite relaxing. However, the cost is outrageous compared to value of the CD. For the amount of money I expected much more from such a talented artist. If you are considering purchasing the CD do not pay more than $15.00 for new.
The Best Live Album of the 90's.......2004-10-21
This the best live album that I have ever purchased and probably my favorite album ever. My complaint is, just like I read from another reviewer, this cd is too short. This is a special performance from a special musician. If you love live music this is a must have.
The New Godfather of Soul.......2004-05-06
If you are a D'Angelo fan like myself, this CD is a must-buy. Listening to D'Angelo is something more than just passing time. His songs and lyrics are timeless. Although the CD is somewhat short for its price-tag, it is worth every penny. I've never seen D'Angelo live, so this CD gave me a chance to find out if it's just the studio that makes him sound so good. Well, it's not. His raw talent shines through in every song. His soulful lyrics and soothing voice make the songs come alive. Unlike many "R&B" artists, D'Angelo exudes real emotions. You can feel it.
Brown Sugar got me open and now I want some mo!!.......2003-01-09
I just got this CD as a present and damn if it didn't have me logging on to Amazon.com doing a search for D'Angelo and crossing my fingers hoping that there would be a new release listed for him.
I've seen "D" live more recently for the Voodoo album and he's EXCELLENT. I'm even more in awe by this live session because he was somewhat new to the scene. In my opinion the true talent of an artist is how well he or she performs live, having made that statement he's is truly talented much like Prince is so awesome live, so is Babyface, so is Me'shell NdegeOcello; get the picture. But I digress... buy this CD and I guarantee you it will stay in heavy rotation and you'll be logging onto Amazon.com hoping like I did.
Love-test this CD tonight, it is too sexy for words!.......2002-12-08
This is CD is absolutely worth the import price tag. Do not hesitate, after all, you only live once. D'Angelo is ahead of his time, and talented beyond words. His back-up singers here (and this was recorded back in 1995) are Angie Stone and Karen Bernod, both established artists in their own right today. I can't say enough about this CD, having listened to it non-stop for a week.
Just buy it! It will tide you over until his next release.

Bouncy and airy, this soulful epic from Dimitri from Paris usurps the bubbly core of disco and imbues it with a propulsive, addictive energy. A talented DJ as well as a sharp-eared and fearless translator of faux-sophisticate, Martin Denny-style exotica-jazz, Dimitri has a natural affinity to latch onto the kitsch, which has always given an appealing breeziness to his mixes. This disc ups the ante, both on that level and also in terms of plain old danceability. Most impressive of all, this disc manages to avoid sounding like a predictable rehash or, worse, yet another nod to mindless retro culture. Bringing the funk in unabashed fashion on such tracks as the Originals' "Down to Love Town" or falling through the gauzy melodies of La Pregunta's "Shangri-La," Dimitri displays an affinity for the genre that is both focused and informed. While he gives the songs proper breathing room, his sampling technique produces an intensely modern spin when necessary. Mixing up Stetasonic's "Talking All That Jazz," Dimitri twiddles and dips the EQ with ruthless energy, giving the song a breakbeat-like, sample-laden momentum. As any DJ ripped straight from Studio 54 would know, Dimitri's ancient vinyl carries a time-tested vibe that even the most modern of present-day ravers can and should recognize as a kindred spirit. --Matthew Cooke

Customer Reviews:
A Night at the Playboy Mansion.......2007-07-07
It's disco, for sure, but it's not the "disco" you think of you if you don't know anything about disco. Mixing new and old, Dimitri from Paris puts together a really danceable, tuneful set of songs.
Not Disco but House!.......2007-01-18
Some of the reviewers have confused this with disco music! This is not really a disco cd. Disco was the forerunner to house and I admit that the connections are strong between the two. House replaced disco here in the US, UK and elsewhere around 1985 (although disco still lives in Italy for some strange reason). House has much more diversity than disco and house has taken advantage of technology that's available. Some of these songs are actually house remixes of r&b hits from the 70s. House comes in a lot of varieties. If you like this disc checkout some of the chillout house, gospel house and latin house available. Dimiti from Paris is one of the great DJs out there mixing on the scene. And don't forget to loosen up and dance!
this album is HOT.......2004-07-30
This is definitely one of my favourite CDs to play at countless occasions; when Im driving, when Im havin a party, when I'm getting ready to go out.. I LOVE THIS CD!!!! I fell in love with it the first time I had ever heard it, and had a bit of trouble finding it. I also have some other collections by Dimitri from Paris, and though I like the others too, this is definitely my fave. Great tracks to party to and to chill out to. "Reach Inside" is my favourite hands down.
Superb Club Mixes........2004-04-15
Also, a great Playboy Mag cover from the 70's. This production takes classic disco and retro club tunes and puts a Dimitri from Parh-ree stamp on them. Stetasonic gets juiced, the Originals gets UP to Love Town and Ashford/Simpson do not need the cure to Dim's Blue Lounge re-edit. Does it move? Do I really have to tell you? Party, baby!
If You're Looking For The Funk..........2003-10-25
This is the funkiest, bounciest, wildest most fun record I have. I'll sum it all up with a brief anecdote...My friends came over my house after school the other day to do a report. None of us are really big fans of dance or disco music, but for some strange reason, I then thought about how I liked this album when my older brother used to listen to it, so I decided to put it on while we were working. I didn't know what they'd think of it. I thought at least they'd get a laugh out of it, as this album is like nothing they had ever heard. My presuppositions couldn't have been more off. After about two minutes into the first track, we completely abandoned our report and just danced around the room like freaks for the duration of the 70 minute disco-funk parade. It's seriously that entrancing. Never put this on if you're trying to get work done. You really won't be able to do a thing but groove. For all other moments in your day though, I highly recommend this album.

Album Description
AK1200 At Close Range (4 Stars) URB Magazine An impressive glimpse at the future of drum & bass from America's own AK1200.(:\run recordings/Lakeshore) Fresh off the success of his debut artist album Shoottokill, America's own drum & bass don returns to the format that undoubtedly made his name: the mix-CD. While many mourn the demise of what was once the record industry's darling, AK proves that the mix-CD is still a viable way of reaching the masses. A packaged party-in-a-box, At Close Range is impressive not only because of the number of up-front tunes and seamless mixes, it's that age-old cliched `journey' at the core that make this an experience worth checking. Accessible to the neophyte and battle-hardened veteran alike, AK kicks things off with his signature hip-hop inspired urban beats before deftly maneuvering into deeper dancefloor territory. After inducing the trance with numerous anthemic vocal bits AK drops straight into the dark and nasty biz before easing up into head-nodding mode for the release. Still not convinced? Huge unreleased tunes from artists like Twisted Individual, Pendulum, D-Kay, Swift, and Dom & Roland make this an essential purchase if only to sneak a peek at what the future holds. Chris Muniz

OMG.......2006-09-17
I didnt know what to think when i heard the opening track, it hit me like a punch in the gut. i was amazed by how well the cd was put together. the track selection was flawless and i can't stop listening to the cd, its been on replay since i bought two days ago. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
great cd.......2006-04-10
This is an awesome cd, my favorite from ak1200, Ive got a lot of memories with this cd, I listend to it that much, its very well put together, hard good music with great breakdowns, a must have... A++
ps...and if your looking for great cds theres more to it than breakbeat science and moonshine, check out hospital, react, certificate 18, system, theres a few more goodones that I cant think of off the top of my head :(
AK1200's Finest.......2005-06-09
I've heard all of AK1200's albums and many other Drum n' Bass artists, being a DnB fan, and I would agree that this is one of the better albums that you could find out there. Other great artists are Dieselboy, DJ Dara, Tipper, Baby Annne, DJ DB and pretty much any artist on Moonshine or Breakbeat Science.
DnB at its best.......2004-09-03
When my friend first put this cd in his car, i wasnt expecting much. Im normally not a big fan of dnb, but rather trance and breaks. After about the 5th track, i was hooked. This album had me lovin dnb like it was my favorite genre. AK1200 mixes up his tracks so well with all kinds of tunes that are not repetitious nor drowning.
A very upbeat album with all the right twists in all the right places will keep you comin back and listening to this album anytime! Check out track 12: Pendulum - Spiral.
1200 gets a 4.......2004-03-19
What a great album...a big step up from shoot to kill, which sucked so bad. the beats are great, track selection is great and just the feel is great. theres a couple of weak songs but there at the very end of the cd. this isnt a classic like Fully Automatic but very close and thats why it got a 4.

Finally, the U.S. sees a domestic release of Fatboy Slim's On the Floor at the Boutique, hands down one of the most thrilling, addictive DJ mix albums ever released. Recorded live in 1998 at the Big Beat Boutique (epicenter of the mid- to late-'90s big-beat movement), Norman Cook, a.k.a. Fatboy Slim, takes the listener on a fascinating, diverse tour of four-on-the-floor sounds. What's always made Cook so great is the way that he seamlessly blends seemingly incongruous sounds to create righteously cool, shiny new beats; he truly is the trainspotting vinyl freak with an uncanny talent for creating accessible dance-floor shakers built of weird components. Take track 4--who'd have thought a spry blue-beat ska sample, an ELO riff, phat beats, a few stray horn riffs, and a sped-up Jungle Brothers vocal track would be one of the coolest things heard all year? --Mike McGonigal
Customer Reviews:
A Fatboy virgin's first adventure.......2005-11-02
WOW!! This was my first Fatboy CD. I had never even heard of him before buying. I was bored musically and looking for something new, different, and good. Talk about a bullseye.
I consider 'Boutique', to be one of the best CD's I've ever bought. Seamless music melding with infectious beats and glorious upbeat tempo make this a fantastic party album. Buy it, borrow it, download it, whatever it takes to experience this Fatboy masterpiece
Not all good.......2004-02-16
I admit there are some really good tracks on this album (specifically #1, 9, 10, and 15-19), but the rest are just OK/border on annoying. Sadly, I'll probably get 10 million people clicking the No, this review was not helpful button because I don't give every album a 5 star review. Oh well. Bottom Line: Buy this only if you are a diehard Fatboy Slim fan. Otherwise, just download the tracks I listed.
keep dat funk ALIVE!.......2002-01-16
The legendary Big Beat Boutique in Brighton housed some great artists (like Lo Fidelity Allstars, Bentley Rhythm Ace, and of course Fatboy Slim), but in 2000, it was shut down. So Norman Cook a.k.a Fatboy Slim threw together this live mix in retrospective of this great club. On this CD, you will find funky rhythm assaults, bouncing samples, drunken drum loops, and, of course, a LOT of funk. You'll be shakin it up to some of these swelling trax. I thought it really got great from track 6 to 9, where it reaches it's climax of sonic quality, topping off with DJ Tonka's essential "Phunky". Fatboy throws on a variety of records, from hip-hop / trip-hop ("Because I Got It Like That" and "Deaf Mike's Throwdown") to funky classics ("Apache" and "Post Punk Progression") and just plain great songs ("The World's Made Up Of This And That" and "Phun-Ky"). A great CD, be sure to pick it up on the way to a party as it appeals to most people and is great to dance to.
Not what you'd expect..........2001-12-03
When I fist bought this CD and listened to it I was a bit shocked. This was not the Fatboy Slim that I knew. However, after listening to this CD a few times I was completely in love. This is not "You've Come a Long Way, Baby", so don't buy it if that's what you're looking for. However, if you're looking to listen to some incredible music just pop this booty- licious CD in the player. Track 4 is classic. Oh Norman...what can't you do?
a-freaking-mazing.......2001-05-16
This album busts a better move than your mother after her breakdancing lesson. But seriously folks, how this CD rocks! May possibly lead to booty-shaking...

Not what I expected, but not awful. The bonus 2nd disc is a plus
What Am I Missing?.......2006-09-25
I have great respect for Larry Levan, and I wish he would have lived to see the impact he had on dance music, but my feeling is that this was an off night for him, because his mixing is really bad! I've been a DJ since the 70's, and I know that back then with live drums (instead of computers and drum machines keeping a perfect beat) and the equipment we had, it wasn't easy to mix from one song to another flawlessly. But, I listen to this CD and I feel like I'm listening to one of my old tapes, on one of those nights when I had one cocktail too many. I guess you had to be there?!
LARRY LEVAN AT HIS BEST.......2006-09-05
IWORKED AT THE GARAGE AND WHEN I HEARD THIS CD ,IT SHOWED LARRY AT HIS BEST.I'VE PURCHASED OTHER CDS BY LARRY BUT THIS ONE WAS EXCEPTIONAL.TO REALLY APPRECIATE LARRY'S MUSIC ,YOU NEED TO HEAR HIS CONTINUOUS MUSIC MIXES MADE LIVE AT THE GARAGE.I AM WAITING FOR HIS OTHER LIVE CDS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE .DON" MISS OUT ON THIS CD.YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Pure class!!.......2006-06-27
This is a great album for Larry Levan fans or just those wanting to hear the mixing skills and music taste of one of the most influential deejays of dance music - from disco to garage to house and beyond.
The mixes may not be as 100% beat perfect as you would get on a CD mixed by one of today's' deejays, but remember that this is a live set with the minor flaws adding to the authenticity and charm. No studio software creation of perfect (and sometimes bland) mixes here. To my mind - and unlike the Studio 54 style - Larry never seemed to pick tracks purely on their "mixability" but rather selected his tracks on musical merit and then did a good job mixing them anyway.
I particularly like his very subtle use of two copies of Stephanie Mills "Put Your Body In It" where Larry starts the record not at it's rather cold intro but at much later vibey break and then continually mixes the same break over and over (if you listen at around 54 seconds and 1 minute 10 seconds and 1 minute 30 seconds into this track you can just pick this).
It's easy to see how he was such an influence on the current house style of sampling and repeating key elements of classic disco tracks. Check out the end of Trinidad by John Gibbs and the U.S. Steel Band where Larry first cuts in My First Mistake by The Chilites. Definitely the inspiration for "Needin U" as released by another Paradise Garage stalwart, David Morales!
This is an astounding set, all the more impressive when you realize it was recorded in 1979 and a piece of history well worth owning.
Buy it now and play it loud!
The Blueprint That All Other DJs Follow.......2006-05-06
Anybody who can't see the relevance of this music and ultimately where ALL DJs got their style then you just don't know music. THIS CD IS THE MASTER DJ AT WORK YOU MUST BUY THIS.
WHEN YOU DO YOU WILL KNOW HOW IT WAS DONE AT THE PARADISE GARAGE. If there is any CD you get PLEASE get this one if you love Organic House Music,Dance Music, or Disco then this CD was made for you. I know that I love it you will too. And to all you DJs who want to compare Larry Levan to "today's standards" if it weren't for Larry Levan paving the way by polishing all the rough ends all you "purists" take for granted YOU wouldn't be out there. So if you truly want to keep Levan's spirit alive as DJs learn and REMEMBER what Larry Levan always KNEW: IT AIN'T ABOUT THE MIX IT WAS ABOUT THE MUSIC. You would do well to remember that when you plug into this CD and hear the Man who put his Soul into the Music and became the Music. Just tune in and feel the Love I sure did. Welcome to Paradise.

Album Description
Please welcome the ubiquitous duo, Masters at Work to BBE Records "Kings of" series. Kenny Dope & Louie Vega (aka Masters at Work) have been working together for 15 years. They are gods of the global dance movement, overground as well as underground. Whether DJ'ing, remixing, reconstructing, working on their own productions or running their numerous labels; their unflinching commitment to innovation, experimentation and self expression makes them as prolific today as they were from day one.
Transcending fashion; not afraid to mix techno with Latino, drop hip hop beats over a house groove or take out the 4/4 all together and leave the snares clattering loose and free, they remain true to their musical spectrum which influences them.
Their selections take us on a journey to Chicago; re-visiting their House roots (Joe Smooth, Sterling Void), early rave anthems typifying the `summer of love' (Santonio's `Rock To The Beat'), perhaps the first ever jazz house record (Mr. Fingers `Can You Feel It') as well as awesome jackin' House (Master C & J's `Face It'). Kings of House is a remarkable mix from today's Kings of the genre, bowing reverentially at the virtuoso performances from the inventers of the movement.
Customer Reviews:
CD 1 moved me, CD 2 was just OK.......2006-02-21
I'm a fan of Masters At Work. Their productions were a staple of my music arsenal during the House years. I was very happy to see some "new" (albeit old material) house mixes. However I was a little disappointed. The Kenny Dope CD (CD 1) is tight. Good selections and good blends. The Louie Vega CD (CD 2) didn't move me as much, mainly due to the selection of tracks. My preference is towards what is now called "soulful" house.
very good house compilation by a couple of legends.......2005-11-16
Masters at Work have been at the top of the house scene for more than fifteen years now.
Louie Vega is one of the greatest DJs of all time with a career spanning more than 20 years. I recently learned that he was the first dj to break freestyle (a now defunct style of NYC dance music). Louie has also released some amazing albums recently with his Elements of Life band.
Kenny Dope is an amazing DJ and producer. He brings hip hop sensibilities to jazzy and vocal house music. Hes also one of the best drum programmers ever to touch an mpc.
Together as masters at work, kenny and louie are an amazing production team that has produced some of the best modern dance music ever. Their album as nuyorican soul is really amazing.
Enough about them...
This album is a great mix of classic club tunes. There are also one or two newer songs (V gets jazzy is a remake of KC Flightt's classic "lets get jazzy"). other new songs mixed in are "i wanna see you freak (like this)" which is a remake of Chip E's like this, which itself is a remake of ESG's moody (all bangin club classics). If you like eclectic dance music with a soulful feeling then this is for you. Many of these tracks are very raw and are from a time when house music was very new and the people making the songs had very little money. So they are very basic, but they convey a raw instinct that is missing from a lot of music these days. The idea here is to dance! Its not about anything else. Close your eyes, put this cd on full volume (with plenty of bass) and picture a dark hot room with 300 people stomping the floor at 5am.
My favorite song is Romanthony's "let me show you love" which has not been re-released since 1994 when it first came out. If you can get your hands on the vinyl version of this compilation, you get the full version of that track.
I would disagree with the previous review stating that diva house vocals are 'cheesy'... you either like it or you dont!
Long Live The Kings! .......2005-08-31
Kenny Dope and Little Louie Vega, fifteen-year veterans of the club scene, revisit the Chicago-style House music of the late eighties and early nineties. Vega focuses on the dance anthems of that era, while Dope weaves a spare, seamless, largely instrumental mix over one irresistible disc.
On Dope's section, lyrics are infrequent and cheesy diva wailing is used sparingly. What remains is the ecstasy minus the excess. Vega shows less restraint, and his contributions suffer accordingly. Yet he makes a few excellent choices, especially Joe Smooth's Promised Land and Frankie Knuckles' Your Love.
This compilation captures the purity of a sound that in recent years has been widely commercialized, reminding us that long after the death of Disco, House got the world dancing again.

A nice complimation of old meets new........2007-05-31
A great complication of Welk's music remixed for a newer generation. I originally heard 'Bubbles in the Wine'
(Dex Dubious) on WXPN in Philly a few years back and a few other selections from the album over the
last few years.
If you are into remixes, and diverse music, you'll really enjoy this album. Also the album is rootkit free, so it
will play on any any CD player.
what a difference from the day..........2006-12-24
I never heard Lawerence at my house since "hee haw" showed at the same time each saturday, so I don't know some of the origins of these songs, but I do know that whomever crafted these modernistic views of their cheesy classics have me perking up and appreciating this compilation. Being a ballroom dancer by trade, I love this cd for what it makes of a very hypersynthetic factoid of those people who lived near my family growing up and never used their living room and never got down home to play with the country folk. I grew up with country and shuned it as a child, thinking that there were better sounds with the top 40. Then as I grew up, I realized through the ballroom industry that I was missing something and this cd has a wonderful way of depicting the synthetic fakeness of the plastic set of the sixties and early seventies. I love the chill sound of these modern technological means and even if you never heard the sounds of the "welk" family, you will love the sheer 'lounge' of the new versions. I thought that I would buy this cd for a childhood friend of mine for she grew up with that plasticity, deciding that I wanted to keep it for myself. If you are a lover of silly songs done with a very modern take, then you might want to keep this one too. It is a lounge/ chill classic.
You have to get this!.......2004-09-03
I'm a huge Lawrence Welk fan and was somewhat apprehensive upon ordering this cd. I did not want in anyway the delightful sounds of Lawrence Welk to be comprimised. But to my surprise, techno music incorporated with the Bubbly Sounds takes Lawrence Welk to a higher level.
Lawrence enters the millenium!!!!.......2004-08-24
It's the most amazing thing I've heard since Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys!!!! Who would have believed that the bubbling sounds of the Welk orchestra would sail into the new century with a hit CD playing in dance bars, cocktail lounges and livng rooms? I've always enjoyed Welk. I was a kid when CALCUTTA, YELLOW BIRD, RUNAWAY, MY THREE SONS, LAST DATE, SCARLETT O'HARA and BABY ELEPHANT WALK were in the Billboard charts....being played on Top 40 stations. In fact, BABY ELEPHANT WALK was No. 1 in Oklahoma City and 50,000 watt Top 40 giant KOMA played the number 1 song for 24 hours straight 1 day per week. Those recordings were not even close to "Champagne Music" or "Ah 1 and Ah 2".
BABY ELEPHANT WALK was my favorite Lawrence Welk single and to hear it in two different remixes on this CD is a real treat.
The biggest surprise was Guy and Ralna's recording of YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE. Imagine Jimmy Davis in his heavenly home looking down on dancers stomping to his signature tune.
You don't even have to have heard of Lawrence Welk to love this cd!
One of 2004's best releases.
A must have!.......2004-08-18
Who ever thought that Lawrence Welk could be anything but "old school cool?" With a revamped and remixed image from some of the best DJ's around Lawrence Welk has been re-invented and club kids and hipsters allover will soon be sipping champagnes and grooving to Lawrence Welk. With songs like "You are My Sunshine" and "Baby Elephant Walk" backed by thumping beats and mellow grooves like "Caravan" this album would be a perfect fit at any trendy club or trendy lounge type bar. It is best listened to the whole way through because the album is so wonderfully constructed song by song it takes you on a journey that comes full circle. All in all an fabulously fun and clever album.

Like its predecessor, this installment in the Live at the Future Primitive Soundsession series features two DJs on five turntables in a live performance at a San Francisco club. Z-Trip and Radar might not be quite as well-known as Cut Chemist (Ozomatli, Jurassic 5) or Shortkut (Invisibl Skratch Piklz), but that doesn't make them any less impressive on the turntables. In fact, their set--built around a lot of classic rock (Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," Rush's "Tom Sawyer") and hip-hop (Black Sheep's "This or That," LL Cool J's "Rock the Bells," and many more)--is, if anything, more fun than their counterparts' effort. Listening to favorites like the Beastie Boys' "Hey Ladies," Queen's "Flash's Theme," and Eric B & Rakim's "Paid in Full" reimagined in this setting gives the songs a whole new life. An instant party. --Randy Silver

It Would be a F--king Crime to Not Own This Album.......2004-08-09
A friend of mine (Kyle Bradley you're a Bad Mother F--ker like Samuel Jackson's wallet) burned a live show of DJ Z-Trip performing in Los Angeles. I played it and it blew my brains out onto a wall. Whenever I play the CD for anyone, they always want a copy for themselves. The same goes for this album. Separately, Z-Trip and Radar are both mega-talents in the hip-hop field, but they're two very distinctively, different DJ's. If you check the album out, you'll notice that Z-Trip is the orchestrator who digs in those crates and finds the obscure party breaks, melding your favorites, mixing 70's & 80's rock, old & new school rap, r&b, and even heavy metal instrumentals (Uneasy Listening-"A must have mixtape", Rolling Stone). Radar, on the other slip mats, assassinates the wax, literally leaving the records in pain after cutting their vinyl throats. This album is exactly what any hip-hop, or rock head needs for a good party. Throw this in with the prior installment of Future Primitive Vol. 1 and you'll have friends buzzing off the music more than the drinks. Check out Volume 3 in the future (no pun intended) with Cut Chemist and Z-Trip on the same album...or so it has been rumored.
Only the Beginning.......2003-10-26
Growing up in Phoenix in the mid 90's I was searching 4 sumthing new in music. Heard Z-Trip spinnin on Majik 107(not around anymore) spinnin new hip hop & new underground sounds live... followed him 2 all the spots he spun...meantime Radar was innovatin a scratch & creatin music off of only one table. 2 of the best dj's in my opinion...came together along with Emile... creating the Bomb Shelter Djs... Now...I wasn't amazed @ their sudden explosion across the globe. I already knew how good these guys were. These guys R hella good. Z can rock parties of any type. Radar...U can find him performing with ASU orchestra behind him live in AZ. I jam this cd a lot while herding sheep or working at my assembly job... Instant classic...even my Old Skool Rock Dad loves it. Buy this CD...its only a taste of whats 2 come soon again from these true pioneers on the turntable.
Fan-spanking-tastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-03-23
if you like DJ culture, old rock and rap songs, then you would be a silly [twit] to not own this CD. i first heard about Radar and Z-trip when a friend of mine came back from the Coachella dance festival thing. well, lucky enough, my local "megamusic chain" store had it in stock. it now becomes a proud edition to my family of CDs. the best thing about this is it's a live recording, and they pull some great scratching, and beat matching, with hardly a mistake. ive copied mine, and keep the original nice and clean. the track selection is awesome too. this is the future of music. what a classic...
just plain fun, great cd.......2002-12-27
this cd is absolutely great. z-trip plays music from so many genres and mixes them all together in a high energy, eclectic party sound. playing zepplin to run dmc to ozzy to pink floyd to anything in the middle. just a great, fun listening experience.
Dopest 5 turntable madness you will hear.......2002-03-28
If you are ever in question of what CD to listen to...Pop this puppy in your deck and enjoy. Z-tip and Radar bring some of the most creative mixes (Biggie & Floyd, Steve Miller & LL Cool J, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Erik B, Aerosmith, and the Who...all make grand appearences). The scratching and remixing of songs on the fly is excellent and the musical taste will get any party going. I am still amazed, three years later, at some of the stuff these guys did (LIVE, none the less). This CD was put into my stereo and it took seriously, two months to come out. You do not grow tired of it. By the way, if you go on a road trip, bring this album. It is by far the best road trip mix to nod your head to. I have yet to meet one unsatisfied customer.

If you had to explain dance music to someone from another planet, you could simply play On the Floor at the Boutique for the curious creature. Besides being a great party album, this Lo Fidelity Allstars DJ remix disc is like a crash course in late-20th-century grooves. Hip-hop, techno, R&B, house, big beat, go-go, and more are all part of this expansive set. Even a couple of late-'60s soul tracks wind up on the CD. When the band's eerie, atmospheric intro, "You're Never Alone with a Clone," segues into the infectious '90s R&B of Blackstreet's "No Diggity," you know the album is going to hop genres with abandon. Rather than crafting a finely contoured, ever-building DJ set, the British big-beat group goes for broke: the CD is an unrelenting rush from one energy peak to another. Amazingly, the Allstars actually manage to pull off this take-no-prisoners approach without dulling the senses. Boutique is a 73-minute olio of fever-pitched dance mania. --Fred Cisterna
Customer Reviews:
extremely weak, even if you're a fan of Lo Fidelity Allstars.......2006-10-13
I purchased both of the LFA's main 2 albums, "How To Operate With A Blown Mind" and "Don't Be Afraid Of Love" (Don't Be Afraid of Love is the better of the two hands down, much more skillful sampling) and enjoyed them a lot, but when I bought this one for [...] bucks it was [...] bucks not well-spent. There are no good songs on here for goodness sake, except for the one by The Prodigy which they didn't mix at all; it sounds exactly the same on the CD that it is derived from ("Experiences", highly recommended). I was very disappointed, because like other reviewers have said the Fatboy Slim version of "On the Floor At the Boutique" is extremely good, but the LFA attempt at it is awful. Fatboy's version is very cool and turntablist, but this one is just boring. Don't buy it, it's not necessarily similar to their albums.
A Few Hits; Mostly Misses.......2003-10-30
If you like hip hop, old school rap, soul, funk, electronica, and everything in between, then you'll probably like this "On the Floor at the Boutique" remix compilation. I thought I would, but--wow--what a mistake. When I bought it (at a clearance sale--and now I see why), I kept punching around the tracks, looking for something to just blow me away. And you would think there'd be several hits with so many tracks (21 of them--though I wouldn't consider #21 a song; it's not even 1 minute long), but there's not. Don't get me wrong: there are some good mixes on here (like my favorites: "No Diggity" by Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre, "Stand Clear" by Indian Ropeman, "(Hey You) What's That Sound?" by Les Rythmes Digitales, "Funk Phenomena" by Armand Van Helden--though I prefer the original version--and "Out of Space" by Prodigy). But a lot of the songs I didn't like anyway, so no amount of remixing could change my mind. Not to mention, as one reviewer did before me, several of the tracks were very racially charged (black against white), which is another reason why I wasn't won over by this CD. So, unless you're a diehard Lo Fidelity Allstars fans--or just really like hip hop/techno/etc. thrown together--I'd skip this one and just go with the other "On the Floor at the Boutique" CD by Fatboy Slim.
Disappointing, but depends on frame of reference........2002-09-04
I had recently bought Fatboy Slim's On The Floor at the Boutique. That really was a fantastic album, and I keep coming back to it. I wanted to hear more of the series (and 'The Boutique' is a large series), and made this my second selection.
I was pretty disappointed. Where Fatboy Slim had a lethal plate of beats and 303's, this album has a lot of remixed old hip-hop songs (Jungle Brothers and Blackstreet). This isn't really bad in and of itself, but it detracts from the main theme of the record: Big Beat. It is, afterall, the Big Beat Boutique, isn't it?
So, that having been said, I liked the blackstreet remix. I even liked the Jungle Brothers remix. But I find that I feel "strange" listening to an album that preaches on and on about "blackness," as a white person. Perhaps if the All Stars had focused on the music instead of skin color, the album would have seemed brighter and a little more coherent.
Buy used, if at all.
Uneven indeed.......2001-12-07
Gotta agree with many of the reviews before me. Not the greatest setflow I've ever witnessed. And some of the segueways are extremely dodgy. On the other hand, there are some great tracks: the KoolKeithesque "Levitation", "What's That Sound" (so you dont have to waste yer cash on the whole Digitalis record, the Berzerk-sampling "Humanoid", "I Need the Disco Doktor" (which actually seems leaner and funkier bookended the way it is). The only other complaint is that, if the track listing above is correct, it looks like due to some licensing issues, the US edition swaps out Felice Taylor's I Can Feel Your Love for a DanMass track. Not an even trade, in my opinion.
try the other two albums of this series first.......2001-07-28
While an entertaining and thoughtful album, it lacks cohesiveness to make it a good mix album from start to finish. Try Fatboy Slim's boutique, or better yet, get the Midfield General's CD.
