          Album Description

Of all the British R&B bands to follow the Rolling Stones' footsteps, the Downliner's Sect were arguably the rawest. The Sect didn't as much interpret the sound of Chess Records as attack it, with a finesse that made the Pretty Things seem positively suave in comparison. Repertoire. 2005.

4 out of 5 stars I think this CD warrants more than 2 stars........2005-04-21

Electro-Industrial seems to be best explained through combinations. As I see more innovators than inventors as far as form goes. And innovation is good as it fine tunes an entity. As far as Terminal Sect goes I would say is a mix of Frontline Assembly... Imperative Reaction... Kevorkian death cycle and a little bit of Evils Toy. Of course that is what my ear picked up. Regardless if you enjoy any of the bands I have mentioned than this cd is worth your time. One more thing, the reviewer TastyBabySyndrome is very very wise, listen to him, his reviews are always right on the money, and he has alot of good things to say. I appreciate his words they will lead you to great music.

            Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars THESE GUYS WERE GREAT!.......2004-12-26

The Downliners' Sect were one of the top R&B influenced bands of the middle Sixties, playing the same venues as the Pretty Things and the Stones, with quite a following, but they never quite made it beyond the cult stage. Don Craine, Keith Grant, Terry Gibson and Johnny Sutton were true believers, throwing down their brand of wild, rockin' rhythm every night. Their name came from a Jerry Lee Lewis tune, "Down The Line", and the Sect was added to reflect their leanings toward Hammer Horror films. It also gave them a series of goofy puns to use in their songs ("Be A Sect Maniac", "Leader Of The Sect") and LPs ("The Rock Sect's In). They impressed Columbia UK enough to secure a three-LP deal, and the first of these, "The Sect", was issued in '64. It was loads of fun, with covers and originals very much in the early Stones vein. They followed this with the infamous EP "The Sect Sing Sick Songs", which featured their cover of "I Want My Baby Back", replete with gravedigging sound effects. Their veering all over the highway proved to be their undoing, as their fans didn't always follow them into new territory. Their second album for Columbia was way, way ahead of its time, and a tragic misstep: "The Country Sect". This album was country rock before there was country rock, with some standout tracks like "Bad Storm Coming" and "Little Play Soldiers", but the damage was done. Their fan base evaporated. They came back with an accomplished and rocking third LP, "The Rock Sect's In" in '66, and a couple of final singles, but their time was done. Fortunately, the flame was kept alive over the years by a hardcore group of fans who embraced every turn the band took, and ultimately, in 1979 three-quarters of the Sect reunited for an album and a great punky single, "Showbiz". This two-CD set covers every Columbia recording from their Sixties heyday, with all three albums and every single and EP side, all in glorious Mono as originally released. With hindsight, the Sect was really just a group of talented guys with diverse musical tastes trying to indulge them all. What they accomplished was unappreciated at the time, but we are lucky to have these recordings to enjoy today. If you've never heard the Sect, be prepared for a lot of smiles, fun, rockin' and surprises. A tip of the deerstalker to Charly for putting together this package. It's about time the Sect got their due. Enjoy!

Terminal Sect is intellegent industrial. The lyrics are good, and the sound is highly original. The sampling is cleverly disguised and done properly. Fans of FLA and :Wumpscut: should check this one out.
