5 out of 5 stars sick and twisted.......2004-03-16

This c.d. is pretty hardcore. After seeing Hype in Miami last week, I had to check him out. This is not for the atmospheric "la-la-la" dnb fans. The basslines are hard, brain-pounding and twisted. I LOVE IT! His mixing is untouched. I highly reccomend this C.D. for the select dnb fan.

5 out of 5 stars Why haven't I heard of this guy yet?!.......2002-06-26

FabricLive3 is a fresh mix of some of the newest and phattest drum and bass tracks around. I've been an avid drum and bass fan for about 3 years now and I can't believe I haven't heard more about DJ Hype. I bought this CD only because I wanted to give him a chance, plus the packaging looked pretty cool. Once i got this pumping through my system I knew I got my money's worth. The mix starts off hard and only lets up when Hype sets you up for the drops. Although I have heard several of the tracks either live or on Dara's new CD, I can still say they are all fresh and demand attention. Of interest is Hype's multiple scratching interludes which beef up any track that begins to get too repetitive. The track selection is great due to Hype's ability to keep the focus on hardcore drum and bass while still mixing in elements of funk, break, and a slight trance flair on a couple of tracks. Picking a personal favorite track is always a tricky ordeal, so all I can do assure any drum and bass lover that this selection is enthrolling, ball-busting, and highly addictive. Story in short: BUY THIS CD !!!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars pleasant set of pleasant house.......2002-04-08

While most DJs are hitting all over big vinyl like the hottie girl of the group, those Fabric guys always have their eye on the quiet little cutie with the odd glasses. The tracks by Jon Marsh on Fabric 03 - though it applies to pretty much all the releases - aren't progressive or breakbeat, funky or anthemic, or really that spectacular to be honest. They're all kinda dark, moody house chug-alongs that do their business without stirring up a buzz.

Which is an endorsement (kinda), since only the hardcore recordheads will have heard much here. Bleepy synthesized tribal strings nod along? Try "G String Underbeard." Mostly though, it's slow-tempo pleasant dance with quaintly affecting vocals on top as on "Mochico 3.5" & "Feel Up". The breakthroughs: Phillip Charles' slow, sizzling (aptly titled) "Elektrik Dreamers," Papa Washington Trio's deep bass grind "Calling All Dancers," and Brothers Love Dubs spellbinding heart of the set, "1-800-Ming."

So, nothing spectacular...funny how this unassuming set doesn't leave the CD player, bumping out higher profile mixes. The charming personality, perhaps?
