Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Slam is Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle. Synonymous with Glasgow's underground house and techno scene and their sound-searching record label, Soma, the duo have garnered a reputation as international DJs, accomplished recording artists and respected collaborators. Slam's Fabric mix is a pulse-taking collection of upfront, up-beat body music. Smoothly mixed at breakneck pace, Stuart and Orde keep four-hands-on-decks at all times, pulling in rhythms and throwing down grooves. This is a now or never mix which is exciting, rush-inducing, forward thinking. The highlights are the Dragnet horns of Tony Thomas or Envoy's huge Chi-town groove. There's Slam's own hip injecting dub of Ladytron and Danilo Vigorito's deep spaced sounds. Fabric records. 2003.

5 out of 5 stars Ace!.......2005-05-19

The first time i heard this cd, i was a bit sceptical however, after a few more listens, it has become nothing short of my favourite mixed session. Jacques Lu Cont is amazing. Looking at the 'all over the shop' track list may make you think '"Argh" do i want to listen to this?' But complied togther, this Fabric session is not one to be missed. It is awsome!

5 out of 5 stars Party.......2004-03-03

This set is awesome. Anyone that includes any remix of Royksopp's "Remind Me" or otherwise gets 5 stars. "Abracadabra", "Theme from 2001", "Sweet Dreams" - what?! The mix seamless. So far I haven't found a Fabric Live cd I don't like. This one is by far the best.

5 out of 5 stars Wanna Challenge?.......2003-06-28

The challenge is to find a person who doesn't like at least one track on this mix. The best way to describe this cd is that it is absolutely all over the place. You just have to look at the track list to see the variety of musical styles. The same is true for some of the mixing: 1-2 is the bedroom-dj-falling-down-the-stairs, whereas 4-5 and 11-12 just have to be heard.
This is an energetic, fun and original mixed-cd from a guy going through his record collection, enjoying himself and not taking things too seriously and should definitely appeal to anyone who has more diverse taste. It isn't as technically 'clean' as the Coldcut JDJ re-release but it is as varied and due to the choice of tracks, is more likely to appeal to a wider audience. The CD only really deserves 4 1/2 stars because it does go off the boil a bit towards the end, before picking up for the last two tracks. That may be a reflection of my taste, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
In my opinion, the Fabric series seems to setting the standard for mixed-cd's at the moment regardless of the style of CD they produce.

5 out of 5 stars that's the real stuff.......2003-05-06

Brillant mix! If you like powerful house (Tech house) this mix is for you! Before I bought the cd ,I just checked the track listing and wow! what a selection! Afro deep, O.C.B., Ladytron,
Marco Bailey,Sven Vath(Marco Carola Remix). No silly sampled trumpets like sounds,No chicks singing: "dance to the beat baby" or "salsa style house" cd! Just plain pulsating house with hard working Stuart Mc Millan & Orde Meikle on the decks. These guys have been doing this for more than 12 years and you can tell!....
