Riding high on the phenomenal success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay is in peak form on Coldplay Live 2003. This CD/DVD two-pack was filmed (on Super-16mm film) and recorded in Sydney's Horden Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003, during an exhaustive year-long world tour, and the medium-sized arena provides a fitting stage for the London-based rock quartet, not so grand as to overwhelm the music, but large enough to indicate their large and loyal following, which includes enthusiastic fans of either gender. Especially when played in DTS 5.1 surround, this 90-minute concert is richer, thicker, and (of course) louder than Coldplay's studio recordings, lending a wall-of-sound expansiveness to the band's signature sound, which draws from such diverse influences as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Verve, U2, and their own unique sonic landscape. "Politik" gets the gig off to a rousing start, and other impressive! highlights include "Daylight," "Yellow," the as-yet-unreleased new song "Moses," and the popular hits "In My Place," "Clocks," and "The Scientist." And while the concert visuals are slick and professional (perhaps placing a bit too much emphasis on singer/frontman Chris Martin), this DVD and CD--the latter containing a truncated 70-minute version of the same performance--are best appreciated for their pristine audio quality. Culled from 400 hours of home video, the 40-minute "concert diary" represents a wasted opportunity, enjoyable for hardcore fans but offering no insight into the band or its individual members. Much better, then, to play the concert at healthy high volume, and appreciate Coldplay in the prime of their young career. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."

coldplay live....good background music.......2007-04-10
Coldplay is definitely a solid live band, the problem is, from a production; sound quality standpoint, how do intelligent musicians like this not realize that you need to increase the high end (treble) to maximize the low end (bass)....the way we used to do back in the 80's...the resonance of the bass is greatly reduced without the high end...this is how bands back then used to get that bright, echo-ee, clean live sound...man, i saw eddie money outdoors one october night at heather farms in walnut creek, ca, and his band sounded freaking awesome...bassy, trebly...crystal clear, the sound just cut through the night sky...anyway, when i hear the last two or three minutes of Politik...I'm in absolute heaven...as good as it is, it could have been so much better - along with the rest of the album, with a little bit stronger production / sound quality...This band is way too talented to suffer from sound like this...That being said, this is a solid live album, and you can't go wrong with the cd/dvd combo pak. And by the way, Chris Martin apparently says we're in for a real treat...they have an incredible song in the works that's about to be released...looking forward to it bro...and to you and the band getting back on the road again...who knows, maybe next time you guys come around, i can actually afford to buy a ticket...peace...out
Quality Product.......2007-03-08
I received this product on time, and was very pleased with my purchase. This is a very good concert for those that really enjoy Coldplay and have not been fortunate enough to go to a real concert.
COLDPLAY LIVE.......2006-11-06
I went to a live Coldplay show and this DVD was as spectacular as the live show!! I reccomend this to any Coldpay fan or anyone that is a fan of live music. ENJOY!!
im listen to this genre too.......2006-07-29
coldplay is a great band. this album is for real fans.
the dvd is bangin ya'll
the songs are great and have a distinct sound only coldplay can produce.
Quite good concert but sloppy editing.......2006-05-03
It's always fun watching concert DVD's. For one thing, being a musician, I can actually watch not only how they play the songs but see the musicianship of the band without the benefit of redoing takes and overdubbing certain parts. It's still a bit too early for a Coldplay DVD but still it's quite a good one regardless, it's just marred by the MTV-style editing that I'm very much despising at the moment.
The show combines some tracks from first release Parachutes to 2nd release A Rush of Blood to the Head, as well as 3 non-album tracks. There's of course crowd favorites such as Trouble(with a huge end sing along), the Scientist, Clocks, Don't Panic, Yellow with a beautifully sung intro to album tracks such as Amsterdam, Daylight and Shiver. As for the 3 non-album tracks, I love 2: The One I Love, a big rocker with a catchy ending("sing it to me, oh oh") and See You Soon, a beautiful/melancholy acoustic ballad.
The editing problems are first evident in the Politik intro. While the track itself has that pounding beat, so does the editing and it's incredibly jarring. It reminds me of an old guy trying to get in the mindset of a young person by acting and talking fast so the hyperactive camera is a result of a "this is what the kids want" mentality. Like most DVD's, the lead singer Chris Martin tends to get the most attention. A talent yes but other band members get very quick shots before going back to Chris. At one point I almost thought I saw band member to Chris to band member to Chris rather than switching between the 4 of them.
It would've been nicer if they waited till X&Y came out so we can get Square One, Speed of Sound and Fix You live but that's alright. Knowing the record company, we'll get another one soon.

A very nice tribute to a very underrated band!.......2002-05-12
_A Tribute To Big Star w/ additional songs by Chris Bell_ is a very nice tribute to the group Big Star and Chris Bell's solo work. It is good to know that this band that has never had much commercial success, though it deserved to have lots, is this important to this many performers!
The highlights are: Longwave's performance of _Holocaust_ which opens in a fashion reminiscent of Tom Petty's _Into The Great Wide Open_, moves to a majestic guitar solo, and winds down with a nightmarish Pink Floyd-like soundscape; Marty Willson-Piper turns in a performance of _Thirteen_ that takes this originally sweet song and makes it sound kind of menacing, its has something of a Zombies _Time Of The Season_-like flavor; Susan & Brandee w/Giftshop do a Eurythmics like version of _Give Me Another Chance_ that possibly pulls off the trick of being better than Big Star's original; The Red Telephone's _September Gurls_ is close to the original except it gets a little more punky in the bridge section of the song; the Gentle Readers give a new wave style performance of _Back Of A Car_ that sounds kind of like Chrissie Hynde fronting the Romantics with the Bangles on backing vocals, the dramatic reworking really shows what a strong song _Back Of A Car_ is; Probe turn _Big Black Car_ into a shimmering swirly soundscape, they do an excellent performance with the hard loud "sssssTT" and all; Tony Zajkowski's version of _I Am The Cosmos_ sounds like the _Tommorrow Never Knows_/_Revolution #9_ side of John Lennon collaborating with Trent Reznor, it is very percussive and features a lot of tape-loop sounds; the Banjo Spiders turn in a sassy and spirited version of _Mod Lang_ that could be even better than Big Star's original, the arrangement is pretty close to the original, but I think that the presence of backing vocals really helps this song.
I think that all Big Star fans would enjoy hearing this. Some of these bands got very creative in their reworkings of the songs while others seem to have loved and studied Big Star so much that they reproduce nearly every guitar-lick and drum-beat from the original to the tee in the songs that they cover. Both camps do very good work though.
A fine tribute album!

Beelow back at it again........2000-11-16
In original form Beelow is bacj at again, with his new release. This is straight up original Beelow style with even tighter tracks than off of Ballaholic. Ballaholic was a good cd and Beelow charges back with new one. Once again Beelow has come back with a host rap stars, including the one u cant get enough of: Thugg Addict. Thugg Addict bounces all over the cd droppin all of his little screams and hollers everywhere. Thugg Addict also appears on the last song "DON"T CALL ME". He shows his rap skills and talks about how he is not trying to be like mystikal, He gives strong words toward Mystikal in this song. This one is one that u will put in every night to gop bump on the town, with beelow known for tha bumps if u got a system you'll like this one alot. I think this is beelow's best cd and he once again has out done himself. If u like that down south dirty dirty rap music, you got to go get this cd.

Not Original Artists.......2005-09-14
The selection of songs is fine, but they are not performed by the original artists. It might be okay if any of the renditions were better, or at least innovating upon the originals. No such luck.

Utter waste of time... don't purchase.......2006-01-19
As a long-time fan of TWP and Cinerama, this sounds like a great idea. What could be cooler than seeing a behind the scenes look at the band on tour? Watching this documentary (if it can be called that) was painful. The only redeeming moments were an acoustic version of Corduroy and some quick interviews with Gedge in the special features section. Why those were not included in the film is beyond me. The film itself is meaningless. Every so often, it seemed like they would actually show the band playing live, but they never did. If I am purchasing this DVD, chances are that I already own (and regularly listen to) Cinerama studio albums. They were obviously recording during the live performances, why not use that footage for the film? The sound quality was also very poor. I want my time back.
oh man. what a pointless dvd........2004-12-28
don't bother unless you're some obsessed fan. painfully boring. there should be a warning label on the package that clearly states that the dvd contains NO real concert footage with live sound. there's one acoustic performace of Corduroy that's worth hearing, but that's it. The rest of this is just Tim Middlewick's semi-artsy attempt to make a video-collage using random cinerama tour footage set to the studio recordings of Torino. uh, okay.. it wouldn't even be that bad of an idea if they included audio of the band members interacting and tried to create any sort of coherent story out of the mess, but they don't. the music makes the random footage seem overly sentimal- but since nothing actually happens throughout the course of the documentary, it feels horribly forced. no band members say a word except for david gedge, and most of his dialogue is limited to small talk about equipment or songs. there's one short interview towards the end that isn't completely trite, and there's a "quaint" scene where he thumbs through his record collection and talks about his influences, but there's nothing new here for anyone who already owns cinerama and knows what david gedge looks like. c'mon. go buy it. waste your money.

Don't waste your money........2004-09-28
If you're looking for a good Blink 182 dvd, don't buy this.
If you're a fanatic and you buy every Blink 182 dvd or cd, still don't buy it. It's a piece of crap. It barely has any footage of Blink. Most of it is just old aquantences talking about them (not as thirlling or interesting as it sounds) They repeatedly show the people talk about the same topics, more than once. Not just each of them talking about the same thing, but they actually show them saying the same damn thing more than once, even more than twice! And it gets really irritating and boring.
They also show this sucky surfing and skating footage time and time again. Also using crappy background music by some band that really sucks. Buy Urethra Chronicles 1 or 2 if you truly want a quality Blink 182 DVD.
kinda cool.......2004-08-08
this is a really cool biography on blink 182. its from england. it has a trivia quiz and a discography. it features interviews with the band and friends and family. its more acurat than maximum blink 182. the reason why i gave it 4stars instead of 5 is because on the trivia quiz the first question is "in what video does the band parade around naked? a. whats my age again b. adams song c. all the small things or d. dammit?" and ofcourse as we all know the answer is whats my age again. so i chose whats my age again and what do they tell me "WRONG!!!". so i press it again "WRONG!!!" ok lets try all the small things. "CORRECT!!!". that is completely wrong if you ask me. i was like "what the hell?"! well anyway i think any blink fan should have this because everything else is correct! :-)
