THIS SONG LEADS YOU TO HEAVEN.......2003-11-09
Another way is the best song by PVD and it's still the number one in my favorites list, the beat is pulsing, the melody is enchanting, the work on strings is excellent, the vocals are pure whispering bliss. Every time I listen to this song I notice new particulars, this song grows every time, with no limits.
This tune is aMaZiNg!.......2001-12-02
About two years old now, but its definitely better than most of the trance out today. The Sessions mixes of Another Way are the ones to check out, same goes for Avenue. Paul Van Dyk never fails in his delivery of good work. Check out his other albums too!
Most chances it won't let you down........2000-06-29
I don't know if it's me or Paul Van Dyk. It seems to me that PVD had become a little soft in the edges, making his tunes a little too commercial (especially "Tell me why") and becoming a big star. Perhaps it's because that trance had become such a popular trend and I'm moving to deeper sounds, I don't know.
This maxi cd is a proof and a disproof of my opinion. The main track :"Another way" is very melodic and a hit like, even more than "For an angle". The sound is floating and the beat is good, a great track for a party, but I'm not sure that you'll ever hear it at 3 am.
On the other hand, the AA side track (once, on vinyl days, double A sides singles came with side A and side AA...) "Avenue" is a hard trance tune, with less cheese and more bass and energy. This one will be played by some late night/early morning DJs. The remixes of "another way" are good, too. They take out most of the softness of the radio mix and club mix and make this track more interesting. At the bottom line, if you are a PVD fan, most chances you won't be disappointed. More than that, I guess that this single will introduce PVD to a larger audience.
And again, I can't finish without some comment on the edition : unlike the US edition of "Tell me why", the US edition of "Another way" is the best one. Not only it is the cheapest, it contains all the mixes from the European editions (you must purchased CD1 and CD2 in Europe to get all the mixes).
A Departure into a Different Direction..........2000-06-16
PvD has always been known for his awesome remixes, but never so much for his own work (other than "For an Angel" and "Words"). This time, he's hit it, making 2 new tracks that sound as great as all the other tracks his name is attatched to. I was pleasantly surpised by the power of "Another Way (Sessions Mix 1)"...I find it better than the original mix itself. I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of "Out There and Back"...having heard "Tell Me Why? (The Riddle)", I know this album is going to surpass both "45 RPM" and "Seven Ways".
The B-side is the surprise winner.......2000-05-15
Ever hear a tune that's well composed and produced, sounds like something you'd like, yet doesn't click? That's Another Way, a thoroughly decent tune that has a harder dance beat, typical keyboard riffs, whispery vocals, and a synthetic ready-for-consumption feel. Four different versions are included to make it more appealing, to no avail.
Thankfully, the B-side "Avenue" is surprisingly good. Sure, it too seems coldly produced, but at least it has a purpose- to get you moving. It's got a harder beat, and chooses a techno feel over typical trance melody, complete with trademark Van Dyk squiggly noises and faux-traffic sounds. When the keyboards kick in, they feel like they actually belong.
Finally, you get a 20 minute mixed version of these two songs together, but since I can only recommend one, I say try to track down the excellent "Avenue" on a compilation somewhere.
