Clean, lush, delightful.......2004-12-15

There are some absoulutely amazing tracks on this collection. Up with people, At the River, ROYGBIV and We are all made of stars come to mind. Then there are many subtle moody tracks, especially on the second disc. All are wonderful. The tracks fit together nicely as pieces of a puzzle that depicts the lush soundscape of global music.

my fiancee makes me listen to this cd when we go to sleep...she also says she uses it when she practices her pilates and yoga...its kinda relaxing but it always puts me to sleep...definitely not for trance-heads...words...i cant believe youre still reading this...

One of the Best CDs I Have Bought.......2004-07-16

I gave this CD a try because it had that infectious Groove Armada song, At the River, but after listening to these danceable tracks, I was very happy with my purchase. Karma Lounge is ecclectic and doesn't confine itself to one genre or area of the world; it roams the world, turning up quality, universal songs. It's easy to get into Karma Lounge because it's an example of clarity, giving you more than just ear candy.

Well... you would be keen to listen to this CD after reviews like that! So was I. The first disc didn't quite live up to expectations (of being drop dead stunning). It's quite a mix of flavours, and goes from pop and club to oriental, to latin (Bebel Gilberto) to chill and atmospheric with one grating mix of a track (the child - imagine putting a something that sounds like a scratched record in the middle of a mix CD!).... I guess my criticism here is that some tracks fade out rather than being a seamless mix into one another. The other shortcoming IMHO is you'll know some of the tracks as they were quite popular in their day (at least if you listen to dance music you will)like Touch Me and American Dream and others you'll have heard on other CDs or worse still... television!

There are tracks like Slip into Something More Comfortable and Weather Storm that are beautiful... however... they've also been on 10,000+ other chill out compilation CDs (and that may only be a slight exaggeration!)... and after a while I find listening to them a little more difficult, because it kind of sounds 'generic'. Slip a couple of them in a row as you get in the first few tracks of Disc 2 and you'll have me reaching, sometimes diving, for the remote. To be fair, they ARE good tracks (take Silence, Cafe Del Mar, or Porcelain for example), and representative of their time, but several years later, for my purposes anyway, they stand out as being too familiar and way too often played. There are a few other beautiful, yet familiar songs on Disc 2 and a nice interlue with the Tao of Love and again tracks representing sounds from different parts of the world and electronica. All in all not a bad disc, just one with a few familiar tunes that sound very much like they're from the early 2000s, which of course, they are!

I think it takes exceptional skill to mix a CD to create a journey that takes a listener to places they've not been (ie. outside the mainstream popular hits, that most people will not have heard) and to select the most appropriate tracks for that journey and then sequence them and blend them into one continuous whole, without there being any filler or low points and leaving the listener on the edge of their seat, and at the end of the journey, in stunned silence, mouth open, begging for more... that's simply a rare skill.

Claude Challe has that skill as do a few producers of other CDs in this genere (we're talking far, far beyond anything that has ever been produced at the Cafe Del Mar). Disc 1, simply isn't at that standard. If you want to know what I mean try Emanuelle by Claude Challe or maybe Flying Carpet or one of several others he's produced or Barrio Latino Paris or Cafe Arabesque (import edition) or the new Buddhattidue (simply stunning). Come back and listen to this and you won't rate this 5 stars by comparison.

In summary, it's not a bad CD, in 2007 though I don't think it holds the appeal that it may have when it was first released. You will be familiar with many of the tracks which is good if that's what you're looking for. Since there are so many tracks on the disc you'll be familar with, I think it tends to sound dated overall as a piece of work. I'd be disappointed if I'd paid full price for this cd and I'd much rather recommend you spend your money on something more exceptional like (almost any of) Claude Challe's CD's, Buddhattitude or Cafe Arabesque (among many others - I've made some listmania lists of 50 CDs in this genre I think are exceptional - click my reviewer name).

Nothing to get bored of.......2003-08-14

I think I can listen to this volume over and over. I walked into a store once, and heard this wonderful soothing music (Kinobe's Slip into something) was playing and i was enchanted from the first note, from that day on i was on a search for this cd.
This volume has two cd's ;one has more of instrumental/new ageish tones and the other has songs sang by people with words, lol, ( such as morcheba,salif keita,jakatta) but both are beautiful.
This is a great cd to keep on constant rotation in your cd player, becasue the music becomes you rather than just hitting your ears.

A must have for Buddah Bar and Chill Out Fans.......2002-02-02

I have a whole series of Buddah Bar and Chill Out CD's and this compilation and mixing is impecable. This CD collection is definitely an insert and play without skipping any tracks type CD which is very rare. Anyone who purchases this CD will have something of high calibur and quality

Simply Beautiful.......2001-12-18

I bought this CD recently and it was delivered in time for a party I threw. Everyone loved listening to this CD as much as I had in the short time I listened to it before the party. The selection of songs were perfect for a party setting -- there are some dance songs as well as mellow songs which is perfect! Just what I was looking for!!

SUBLIME WORLD CHILL OUT BEATS.......2001-11-30

Without doubt this is one of the best compilations ever released. World Beats & Chillout seamlessly mixed together & surpases Claude Challe & Buddha Bar. This album takes Cafe Del Mar one step furthur & blows it away. The sequencing of the tracks is perfect & is where many other just good compilations fall down. The artist selection is superb from the well known to obscure. Salf Keita's "Nyanyama" Bebel Gilberto's "Samba De Bancao" & Djam & Fam's "She left Home" are personal favourites. I can not recommend this album too highly.If you are really into your music & want to discover something great then buy this.
