Product Description
Hip Hop: Fingathing are the two piece live and recording outfit consisting of 'scratch wizard' Peter Parker on turntables & Sneaky on Dub bass. 'Main Event' is rooted in Hip Hop but goes well beyond any of the commercial trappings of the genre. It features special guest appearances by Mr Scruff, Veba (Former Rae & Christian vocalist) and the Danish DJ Noize. The sound is a well plotted mix of classic funk, breaks and strategic hard beats.

Recorded live at New York's Madison Square Garden, this 1974 album provides ample testament to Sinatra's Mt. Rushmore-sized status as an American icon: This isn't the performer singing here, but the legend. (The introduction, by famously obnoxious sports commentator Howard Cosell, is hardly intended to minimize the sense of occasion.) From "The Lady Is a Tramp" to "My Way," every one of the Chairman of the Board's vocal inflections seems calculated to convey maximum Sinatra-ness; if he occasionally lapses into self-parody ("Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"), and his voice has lost a few steps, at least it sounds like he's having a good time. --Dan Epstein
Customer Reviews:
Essential for any Sinatra Fan!.......2007-01-17
When I listen to this live recording I feel as though I am really there. The introduction given before Frank takes the stage gets you really excited and pumped. Then when Frank hits the stage he starts off with "The Lady is a Tramp" as the crowd gives him a warm welcome. Right away, we see that Frank's voice is still in great shape. He sounds great!
Most of the concert features classic ballads like "I've Got You Under My Skin", "My Way", "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "My Kind of Town". I was very pleasantly surprised to see "The House I live In" included on this CD. This is a great siong about America and its people. Another pleasant surprise was "Leroy Brown". That is a great song and Frank does such a good job singing it...as he does with any peice!
Every so often Frank talks to the crowd. He shares stories about his own life as well as some humor...nice touch.
One of my biggest regrets is not being old enough to have ever seen Frank Sinatra live. I'm 27 years old so it just wasn't meant to be. I can only imagine how truly great it was to be there at Madison Square Garden on that magical night in 1974!
Sinatra always was the main event !!!.......2006-11-04
Frank Sinatra gives a powerful performance on this soundtrack CD for the TV special of the same name. Sinatra's voice is in very good form even though he was older when this was recorded. Sinatra sings with the usual sensitivity and electricity that we expect from a legendary performer; and this CD proves it.
The introduction by Howard Cosell is too long; this should have been shortened--less is more, right? However, when Frank takes the stage the audience forgets Cosell. Frank Sinatra starts off with a modern rendition of "The Lady Is A Tramp" and the crowd roars and cheers him on. Sinatra then move into "I Get A Kick Out Of You;" this is very well done. Other classic ballads on this CD include "I've Got You Under My Skin;" "My Kind of Town" and the closing number "My Way."
Frank also respects the talents of younger musicians. For example, he performs "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce and "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" by Stevie Wonder.
Sinatra's rapport with his audience is excellent. He jokes with them throughout the concert and he tells a brief story about how he got his start singing in New York City. The audience loves every minute of it.
The Woody Herman band performs flawless musical arrangements to accompany Frank as he sings. The band plays arrangements by the likes of Nelson Riddle and Don Costa. Excellent!
The sound quality is very good; and the liner notes offer two wonderful black and white photos of Sinatra including the cover art. There is a brief essay about Frank Sinatra. You get the song credits, too.
Overall, this CD is a must-have for Sinatra fans. I highly recommend this CD for fans of classic pop vocals, too. Get this CD--and may you enjoy it as much as I did!
Magnificent as Sinatra himself!.......2004-11-09
I have read some negative reviews about the video of this concert, and I`m quite surprised about the difference with the opinions about the CD. Let me tell you I`m a Sinatra fan, and, even recognizing that in this time his voice doesn`t sound the same as before, it still is the master of connecting to people. You can finish convinced that he lived the stories he sings to us.
Two songs in this CD impress me in particular: My way, an eternal song, and Let me try again, where he seems to start cold and at some point, he recharges and gives us an astonishing end. You must listen to this CD.
An All-Time Great..........2003-06-16
This CD is a wonderful live performance. Even though at this point he was getting on up in age, he still sounds great. He had true talent and there aren't many singers out there today with that good ol' true talent. I'm 17 and absolutely love Frank Sinatra. I recommend this CD as well as every single one of his CD's. Also the Rat Pack CD's go along great. Everytime I listen to this CD, I wish I had been there when he performed.
It's An Awesome Album.......2003-02-07
This is, perhaps, the greatest Sinatra live album ever. No one who even thinks he might like Sinatra should be without it.

Customer Reviews:
Good collection of songs by Australian Icons.......2005-05-06
This is a great collection of songs from Farnham, Newton-John and Warlow, plus covers of other well known songs. A really good mix of vocal talents and I love the version of Granada done by John Farnham and Anthony Warlow. I'd thoroughly recommend it if you like any of these three artists or just looking for a good concert CD.
A must have...for all Livvy fans.......2001-08-09
I have just watched the video, and just got the cd...and i just wish i got to see it. The album is stunning, the three voices just blend so well...pure entertainment from all. The orchestra is almost magical and outstanding to hear. Somw of Olivia's songs just are so touching and a few goose pimples often pop up. Anthony Warlows song ...This is the moment is a fantasic piece of music and his voice brings out the best in this show song. John Farnum sings some of his hits as well as joining in with livvy in You're the one that i want. A must have for musical and stage fans..Olivia fans, Anthony fans or Farnum fans.
Great Stuff from Down Unda.......2000-08-24
As an Aussie who lives in the US, I was excited to receive this CD from my brother for my birthday. I have grown up with these musicians and the fun they had while performing the music on this album comes right through for all to enjoy!! My kids are sick of hearing it every time they get in the car. TUFF.
Saw the concert: This CD is as good.......1999-12-08
Just some information to let the readers know a bit about the other people on the CD. John Farnham is Australia's highest selling artist and Anthony Warlow is a stage musical performer with performances in productions such as Phantom of the Opera (that kind of thing) Whilst most of the songs on this CD feature their personal hits They are sung so well by all 3 performers who each have fantastic unique voices of their own. Songs from Livvy in the 70's and 80's (including Grease) and Farnhams album's Age of Reason and Whispering Jack are on this. Treat yourself, this is a great CD for the over thirties and one everyone will enjoy.
An Australian Triumph . . . please market the Video!!.......1999-09-09
I'm an Australian, born and bred, biased, yes! . . . but this bitta (bit of) Australian musical history is brilliant . . just watching the video right now! Please, Amazon . . . release the video in NTSC format so I can share the experience with my North American and other Wolfish friends in other parts of the world!! Pat Hewett (Wachita to her friends) from Western Australia.

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30
This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.
Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09
This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.
If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.
An Excellent CD.......2006-07-27
Talk about bringing back memories. The music is crisp-clear & updated. For the 1999 fans-this is a must have.
Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01
Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.
Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.
Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.
However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.
Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09
I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

Unique fusion of classical and satanic rock, evil vocals, chanting.......2007-04-02
The soundtrack is like the movie. In the movie, a space ship disappears and returns 7 years later. But it is not the same. It now has a personality: PURE EVIL. The music is a big part of the the mood. It is a fusion of classical and satanic hard rock. There are vocals that sound like creepy chanting. The feeling is like a nightmare. The music slows down and speeds up, changes and is explosive toward the end of each track. There are four tracks about 12 minutes each. This is NOT a light CD! You will not be bored!!
Wickedly warped, just like the film........2003-10-25
Excellent mix of techno and classical orchestration. The mood of this disc almost beats out the film in the gloom catagory. A great recording to listen to when the lights are out, it's just plain scary music. MICHAEL KAMEN's best work (next to BAND OF BROTHERS), and when mixed with ORBITAL's electro-drums and a slew of haunting voices, tics, and beeps; makes for a rich, eerie sound environment for fans of the film and not. A great cd for those who really like scary stuff and cool, creeping tempos, EVENT HORIZON is a great soundtrack.
Above average for a dance mix style soundtrack........2003-03-04
Someone took the polar opposite contributions of Michael Kamen and Orbital and mixed them together. The result is a album that tries the recreate the feel of the movie, but is a mish-mash of cues that is hard to place in the mind's eye. The techno stuff does get the heart racing and, while I never have been a huge admirer of Michael Kamen (his stuff just sounds a bit bland to me), composing for this horror/sci-fi hybrid brought something interesting out of him. He should do projects like this more often. Recommended.
A Movie Soundtrack Worth Buying.......2002-04-09
I have bought many CDs based from movies, usually only to be disappointed. This one, however, does not. The mix of techno-beats, classical music and chilling chants will certainly give you goosebumps, if not freak you out. However, there is a problem. The CD is made up of four tracks in total, leaving you to fast forward a fair amount if you want to reach a certain part. Other than that, this is pretty solid. Even if you were only slightly interested in the film I would still recommend it.
exciting mix of orchestra and dance music.......2001-08-28
This is a very different soundtrack. I rate Michael Kamen's work as some of the best, and Orbital is a producers who's been around for years and knows his stuff inside out. The disc is made up of four tracks ranging between 4 mins and 13 mins in length. It is quite spooky in parts, mainly when Orbital's heavily effected drum loops break into the mix. It does add a new dimension to the whol thing, one minute your listening to a nice string section, the next these 909 kick drums and dance loops are interwoven into it. Very classy. My only gripe with this soundtrack is that by the time you reach the last track, its all starting to sound the same. The last (and shortest) track seems to sound more like an edited version of the first track as well. Apart from that, its an excellent and innovative soundtrack. It's a blend of two musical style that sit well with each other when done right, and is something that more composers should incorporate into the scores.

Customer Reviews:
Streisand is the main event here!.......2003-06-10
Barbra Streisand was on an incredible success streak in the late seventies, and she racked up another huge hit with Gold disco single "The Main Event/Fight" (#3 Pop, #5 Adult Contemporary) in summer of '79. As a film, THE MAIN EVENT had many shortcomings, but it was good fun and a pretty big box office hit. The soundtrack album is pretty much the same: the instrumentals and tracks by others are filler, and the whole disc only comes to life during Barbra's three (?!) renditions of the title song.
The ballad and short (45 rpm) versions of the song are fun, but it's the full eleven-and-a-half minute extended version that really shines. The song (which is actually a medley of two separate songs) is a typically silly disco concoction, but Streisand's performance gives it an almost otherworldly power, with more impossibly big notes than one person can count. This bumps up the album's rating considerably, especially since this is the only place to get the long version. Just think of it as a maxi-single and not an actual album.
The full disco mix is on here........2003-01-13
I bought the cassette in 1981 and have looked for the cd for a long time now so I finally found this and there is truly 1 reason for this cd to even to be released- the 11:37 minute disco mix of "The Main Event". This was a huge step for Barbra in that she finally went and followed most of the acts in 1979 and did disco. This song went as far as #13 on the disco charts and even crossed over to the black charts. The rest of the cd is blah - in that I only play the disco version and that is all.
Disco Barbra..........2002-05-23
Light/Fun record featuring mediocre tunes except for the «The Main Event/ Fight» cuts recorded by Barbra. The rest of the songs are simply album fillers & are often forgettable. The album tends to be a nice «background music» CD, just play it and read a nice book.
There's only reason to buy this..........2001-09-29
I bought this just for the eleven minute version of the "Main Event. as well as for the ballad version. Both are excellent. The other tracks are mainly filler. Skip it otherwise.
Buy it for Barbra.......2000-10-11
I bought this album basically for the versions of Barbra's disco hit The Main Event/Fight. Thats all thats really good on here anyways. The versions include an extended eleven minute version, the short version and the ballad version. The original appears on her 1989 A Collection And More, I reccomend that one highly.

Mixed Feelings.......2007-01-04
I bought this album because I am a huge Anthony Warlow fan. While the album by-and-large is very good, if you are really only purchasing it for ONE of the three artists, it might not be the best choice-- I was disappointed to find songs I believed to be Warlow's divided strangely into duets and trios.
Main Event Review.......2006-07-03
Anthony Warlow has a great voice, I only wish that he sang more on the CD, but the sound quality was good.
i LOVE anthony!!!!.......2005-03-13
I'll put it quite simply. Anthony Warlow is god.
His live performance of This Is Moment, while vocally not as good as the album one, has so much emotion. It's incredible. God, he had me in tears.
A work of Aussie performing art.......2003-12-05
I got this CD along with the DVD, having unfortunately missed the actual thing in 1998. Still, I mostly just got it because of Warlow and Farnham. I think Olivia wrecks the show a bit - her voice isn't the same as it used to be. Farnham pulls off his songs flawlessly [I liked Granada!], but my favourite would have to be Anthony Warlow. He took the biggest plunge by leaving behind much of his usual opera/show tunes behind to sing big name pop and big band numbers in duets. Although he does sing This is the Moment [now his signature song].
Great Dissappointment.......2003-11-26
This was a huge dissappointment for me. They do not even sing the complete songs on many of them. Olivia sounds alright, but the male performers ruin it. I think that the worse one is Anthony Warlow. Many of the songs do not sound good at all, and the background music is horrible. When the guys do a solo or sing along with Olivia, at times it is painful. Especially on "Summer Nights," and "Let Me Be There." This is really awful, even concidering that it is a live performance. It does have some great moments, though.
