While English pop monarchs Duran Duran have remained active for two decades, it's clear that the indomitable ensemble was at its peak during those mercurial '80s. This greatest-hits collection documents the band's ambitious beginnings as a funky glam-rock outfit and follows its gradual transformation into a high-tech pop band with loads of commercial appeal. Featuring now-classic tunes like "Girls on Film," "Rio," and "Planet Earth" as well as more recent songs like "Ordinary World," Greatest focuses on Duran Duran's unending string of hit singles. Although the young quintet that performs "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "A View to a Kill" has little in common with the posh, aging trio featured on 1997's "Electric Barbarella," vocalist Simon Le Bon provides some impressive continuity to these proceedings. --Mitch Myers

2 out of 5 stars not too good..........2007-07-09

Geesh, I remember them being better than this. Perhaps it was because I was 10 years old back then. Mea culpa, sentimentality trumped by reality.

5 out of 5 stars Slick sounds by guys in white suits.......2007-05-26

Few bands during the 1980s churned out as many recognizable pop hits as Duran Duran, and this "Greatest" CD captures them all. The guys in Duran Duran (no matter the band lineup) always had an ear for melody, great vocals and exotic sounds. Plus, they carried on as a true band, with everybody writing and contributing. If you like the band's radio hits, then this CD is a must-have; songs one through 13 have been played on the radio for eons. What drew me to this disc, however, was the tunes that aren't as well known.

Besides just catchy, synth-laden pop, Duran Duran were capable of adding soul to their sound ("I Don't Want Your Love"), a cold but sexy club-music vibe ("All She Wants Is") and real emotion and exoticism ("Come Undone"). Songs from the first three Duran Duran records are well represented here, and nice offerings from the same era such as "A View to a Kill" and "Wild Boys" are also present.

Duran Duran also had a nice, somewhat reinvented run in the 1990s, especially the early `90s. The songs "Serious," "Ordinary World," "Come Undone" and "Electric Barbarella" (from Medazzaland) prove that. "Serious," from 1990, sounds like a wonderful `80s leftover, updated in an organic fashion for the new decade, while "Skin Trade," a tune released in 1986, has a slick, catchy sound, but also displays some real soul and great vocal work by Simon LeBon. Though they barely received any radio airplay, each of these tunes could lay claim to being two of the strongest tracks on "Greatest," a CD that is chock full of classics. My only complaint is that "Too Much Information" from Duran Duran 2 (The Wedding Album) was left off, but beggars can't be choosers. Many non-hits by the band have been great, but if you're looking for your fix of the most popular Duran Duran music over the years, this CD is the way to go.

4 out of 5 stars Get your Duran Duran Fix.......2007-05-16

If you're considering this CD, I probably don't have to introduce you to Duran Duran--but just in case you somehow got amnesia (or were born after 1985), I'll give you the quick synopsis. If you were to put all the eighties, mainstream, cheesy yet still a little bit artsy bands into some sort of battle of the bands competition, Duran Duran would finish in the top 3 (along with Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys), edging out other favorites like Billy Idol, Tears for Fears, and the Human League. Without a doubt they were a pop band--not to be confused with artists like the Talking Heads or Blondie--but they were an EXCELLENT pop band who put together 3 (maybe even 4) really good albums and an impressive string of great, sing-a-long singles. And that's a resume with which few can compete.

As for this collection, it's all the Duran Duran a person needs--and maybe even then some. Every single one of hits are here--including their James Bond song, "A View to a Kill," and early nineties hits like "Come Undone." You might have some gripes about which versions they use (for example, why the US edit for "Rio?"), but you can't argue with the track list as a whole. You've got all the smash hits (Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Girls on Film), as well as the popular tracks that aren't as well known (All She Wants Is, New Moon on Monday, The Reflex). This is a great collection for anyone who's a fan of eighties music or a Duran Duran lover.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT CD.......2007-04-04

Is there anything that simply screams the 1970s' most indelible pop cultural clichés--the sunny romanticism, perfect vocal hooks, feathered hair, stacked heels, and flared sateen britches--more than the Swedish pop phenomenon Abba? And while many a pundit snootily dismissed them during their prime as some sort of prefabricated aberration, their worldwide popularity peaked somewhere just south of Beatlesmania. Indeed, Abba's music was as finely tooled and crafted as anything to come from a Volvo or IKEA factory--if occasionally more economically potent. This double-disc, 37-track anthology comes neatly on the heels of Mama Mia!, the smash, if unlikely, Broadway show based on the band's hits, and documents every single released by the band's Polar label in their home country as well as key tracks released internationally.

This is the canon from whence the term "Europop" sprang. With a continental sense of vocal neoclassicism, informed by just the right ethnic clichés (and oft wed to the era's insistent 4/4 disco beat) to make songs like "Mama Mia," "Fernando," "Chiquitita," and "Voulez-Vous" work on a global scale, the writing team of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and their respective partners in music and life, Agnetha Faltskog and Frida Lyngstad, developed the seamless, wall-of-sound productions contained herein. The Definitive Collection features a rare single remix of "Ring, Ring" and a 1979 promo-only extended mix of "Voulez-Vous" as bonus tracks, as well as a concise, illustrated history of the band and each track. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars All the hits, but too many missing album tracks.......2007-06-24

While The Definitive Collection does have all of the hit singles, it is missing some very good album tracks like "Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)", "Hasta Mañana", "When I Kissed The Teacher", "Kisses Of Fire", and "Happy New Year". Why waste space on remixes of "Ring Ring" and "Voulez-Vous", when there's many more great ABBA tracks that could've been included?

4 out of 5 stars I actually like this.......2007-05-21

I first got some interesed in them by seeing Pracilla Queen of the Desert and i like the songs i heard from them like Ferando, Dancing Queen, and Mama mia. But it took me years to get enough courage to buy a cd of theirs. They are so chessy and kind of embrasing to admit to liking. I deciede to get this over the single disk Abba Gold because it was a good price and i wanted to hear more songs besides the ones that everyone knows. I also have no desire to buy another ABBA cd. The first songs on here are not that great but they get better. People think of them as a disco act but they acutally did some folk, pop, new wave and some songs like The winner takes it All that are very Broadway. This is actually one of the better 2 cds best offs i have ever listen to. I say to the people like me that dont want to admit that they like this band to check this out. I read that this is suppose to come with liner notes but my new copy did not.

5 out of 5 stars ABBA IS THE BEST!!!.......2007-05-05

La mejor recopilacion de uno de los mejores grupos de todos los tiempos, y todas las canciones ordenadas de forma cronologica, y un folleto donde se resume muy bien toda su historia, con muchas fotos de todas sus etapas de modo que uno puede ir siguiendo toda su trayectoria como grupo musical; las canciones, simplemente INCREIBLES, desde la sencilla "RING, RING" hasta canciones mas complicadas como "THE WINNER TAKES IT AT ALL"; sin faltar piezas inolvidables como "CHIQUITITA", "I DO I DO I DO", "WATERLOO", "DANCING QUEEN" y "TAKE A CHANCE ON ME"; incluso hay canciones que yo no conocia, como "HONEY HONEY", "ONE OF US" y "PEOPLE NEED LOVE", muy buenas tambien; SIMPLEMENTE LO MEJOR!!!

5 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia Its Abba.......2007-04-22

I can recall this band when i was a child having alot of hits. Some of the songs i remember from those days were S.O.S. and Waterloo. My mum bought some of their albums and i just loved a heap of their songs.By the late 70's i started ignoring them as they got so much attention by the media. But i still liked alot of their tunes.Radio stations seemed to ignore this band alot in the 80's here. But i heard some of their songs and after so many years of not hearing them they sounded damn good,so i went and got a few albums. This was 1989 and i got right into them again.I always hoped this band would get back together, but the news is that they will not.Thats a shame, but there is so much music to reflect on.Every now and then i play their songs,Some of my favorites are the 2 i mentioned and Honey Honey,I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do ,Mamma Mia ,Fernando ,Ring Ring ,The Winner Takes It All ,Under Attack and Thank You For The Music. There is also a stack of other songs i like. This is a good collection of their songs.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection.......2007-01-11

If you were in Australia in 1977, then you were certainly subject to "Abbamania." Not since the arrival of the Beatles in 1964 had the Land Down Under scene such a phenomenon. It seemed like all of Sydney lined the streets to herald the arrival of the "Super Swedes." I was 12 years old at the time and I quickly fell under their spell, as did most of the nation's youth. Over the next couple of years they soon conquered the rest of the world, America to a much lesser extent, but the group eventually fell victim to over-exposure and by the early 80's it was clear that ABBA was to go down in history as a super group of the 1970's. It's interesting to me now, listening to this well-chosen collection of ABBA hits, to think that many of these songs have had a second-wind with the hit musical "Mamma Mia." Songs that didn't even originally make a splash in the U.S. are now being hummed across the country as a result of this worldwide stage smash. I love this particular collection. I think it will appeal to those of us who were ABBA devotees and those who are only now becoming familar with their evergreen material. The masterminds behind the songs, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, are only now being recognized as the great writers that they were/are, and the passage of time only serves as a reminder, at least to me, that once upon a time there used to be GREAT songs on the pop charts.

4 out of 5 stars collected.......2007-05-26

What can be said about Depeche Mode? They are definitely a major band. They are the only band from the era to stay popular for 25 years and "be new" constantly. They are the only rivals to REM and U2. Those rare bands that constantly do new albums that are interesting and can play large arenas and not seem like a nostalgia act. This "Best Of" collection may not be for the real Depeche Mode fan. They probably have all these tracks. I just saw them for the first time last year, and was thrilled. They came out of the electronic scene that John Foxx, Gary Numan, and New Order created. I don't think it was until "Everything Counts" that Depeche Mode had broken away from the pack. It has been said that they took their music into a dark place in the last 1980s, and they only got more popular. I find myself being attracted to "Shake The Disease" most of all from the early material. It just sound like the most advanced thing they ever did musical, and vocally. I also like "Precious" a lot. This is a cool collection.

What i have to say about Depeche Mode..
Only that its awesome!!!

They've sold over 13million copies of their albums!!
Anyways.. i think this truly does bring out the best of Depeche Mode if u've never heard of them before..

On,Suffer Well...qué mas puedo decir?

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, .......2007-03-22

Pretty much every song on this album is well-done and easy to listen to. My favorites are "Just can't get enough" (a great song from the 80s) and "Enjoy the Silence."

Their music is quite distinct and I listen to them always on long driving trips. This group really knows how to play.

Anyone who is in their 30s to 40s range will most likely enjoy listening to this. However, I think anyone anyone at almost any age might like this CD.

4 out of 5 stars 80's nostalgia.......2007-06-11

Remember the 1980's, when all we had to worry about was nuclear war instead of rampant terrorism? Well, for those like me who grew up during that decade, this CD is an overflow of nostalgia. It contains some of the best songs of the 80's.

Songs like WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN (the Bangles), WALKING ON SUNSHINE (Katrina and the Waves), HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH (Belinda Carlisle) and I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON (Frida) are almost pure nostalgia straight-from-the-bottle.

For me, the 2 best songs are MANEATER (Hall & Oates) and HANDS TO HEAVEN (Breathe). MANEATER is the best song Hall & Oates ever wrote, and it also describes quite a few sadistic women I've met in my life. HANDS TO HEAVEN takes me back to the first time I heard it. It was in boot camp & was the first time they allowed us to listen to the radio. For a few brief moments I was able to in my mind get away from the United States Navy!

I've never cared for Huey Lewis & The News, but POWER OF LOVE is their best song & the song they're most known for. I like Pat Benatar, but never thought LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD was one of her best songs. I would have much preferred SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT, but that's just my opinion.

The biggest gaffe on the album in my mind is Falco's ROCK ME AMADEUS. I never cared for it, even though I'm a big fan of classical music (including Mozart!). Never seemed there was much substance to it, and it's little wonder that Falco was basically a 1-hit wonder.

All-in-all, however, the majority of the songs on this album fit nicely for everyone who went to High School during the 80s. If you graduated from HS in 1980-something, give this CD a try!

5 out of 5 stars AWSOME 80's MUSIC.......2007-05-12

If you like 80's music, then this is one cd you must have in your collection. The selection is good and the flow of the music is just right. As you listen to it it will bring back memories of those special moments back in high school.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome 80's.......2007-05-07

This is a mix of some awesome 80's music. You will love it!

4 out of 5 stars More Pure 80's.......2007-04-15

A good mix of great 80's songs. Since most bands from the 80's were one hit wonders (or really close to that), you get the music you love without all the extra "filler" songs you don't want.

4 out of 5 stars Rock Me Amadeus.......2007-03-19

This is a nice compilation of the 80's, it's only essential for collectors like me because it contains 3 rare track versions.

The first one is the 4 munites and 4 seconds edit of "I Know There's Something Going On" which is now only available on Frida's album "Something's Going On" as bonus track.

The second song is Tears For Fears "Shout" that clocks at 4 minutes and 6 seconds which again is only available on the latest DELUXE re-issue of "Songs From The Big Chair".

The third and last song is Falco's rare "Canadian Version" (4 minutes and 8 seconds) which is an edit to the 8 minutes and 21 seconds of "Salieri Version" that was released on the US version CD of "Falco 3" by A&M records in 1985. However, I noticed many of you are trying to locate this song without paying big $$$ for the long deleted Falco 3 CD and you can only find it on 2 CDs, one of them is Falco 'Hit Singles' released by Warner in 1998 again now it's out-of-print (try Amazon Germany for a cheaper second hand) and the other one titled "I love Techno Pop vol.2" which is still in print only in Spain and by the way an awesome compilation of 12inch hits, you can find it and buy it at Blanco Y Negro official website.

Anyway, a must for hardcore fan of the 80's.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-03-22

The sound is really original and highly creative. I like the song "Change." I like the melody a lot. "Women in Chains" is another song with a beautiful sound. "Pale Shelter" is also another good song on this cd. It brings back the early to mid 80s where life was much simplier for a lot of people.

The music is distinct, they don't sound like any other band.

5 out of 5 stars Great music, but don't go see in Concert.......2007-03-16

Their music is great and I love the sound, but they are a studio group only. Their concerts are really poor. They don't play all of their hit songs, their live mix is slightly off, they don't bring a large enough supporting band and they don't relate well to the audience at all. The biggest issue I had with them in concert (Pacific Amphitheater, CA July 2006) was their song selections. They chose to play songs that they liked and not songs that the crowd wanted to hear. They left out some big hits songs to play some other songs that were really pretty bad. Which was a surprise to me as I love their music. I give them an "A" for their music and an "F" for their concert.

5 out of 5 stars The long and wining road!.......2007-02-28

If I had to pronounce myself by one the most original bands of the eighties "Tears for fears" should be included even in the list of the most exigent hard fans of those ages.

They knew to combine the accurate balance between expression and sentiment, keeping in mind the vast audiences. So his musical balance allowed them to maintain the required presence and personality to achieve a special place among the great bands.

A must- have for any serious collector.

5 out of 5 stars Great music !.......2007-02-08

Few filmmakers managed to capture the awkward coming-of-age catastrophes of '80s teens the way John Hughes did, just as few soundtracks encapsulate the sound of an era better than this one does. It's not the best 1986 had to offer, but it's a cohesive whole, transporting the listener to that other time, imagined or otherwise. There's enough variety to ensure that it doesn't become wallpaper, and very little filler. "Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega, with Joe Jackson on piano, is tremendous and transcends generations. Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler has long been bemused about Hughes not taking Molly Ringwald's character's name from the title song, which inspired the film, but everyone was paying too much attention to what Ducky was wearing to notice anyway. --Scott Wilson

5 out of 5 stars As Good As The Film.......2007-04-19

I love this movie, I love Molly Ringwald, I love that she worked at a record store, I love her car, Annie Potts, Jon Cryer, Andrew McArthy, and all the music on this CD. Opening with OMD's "If You Leave" it only goes up from there. "Left Of Center" by Suzanne Vega is the anthem of anyone who ever left on the side lines of the main stream, New Order's "Shell Shock" - The Smiths brilliant, "Please Let Me Get What I Want", and my favorite "Wouldn't It Be Good" (wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes/ even if it was for just one day), "Bring On The Dancing Horses", the always welcome "Pretty In Pink", I mean really isn't she? This is pretty much my teenage life caught on CD. Now I need to go out and buy that new version of the DVD that came out.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT 80'S SOUNDTRACK.......2007-02-02

This is a must have for any 80's enthusiast for that era! Wow! Who can forget the great music of that era?!! This one is a winner.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for fans of the film or anything 80s.......2006-05-10

John Hughes' "Pretty in Pink" has always been a favorite movie of mine. I fell in love with it immediately. It is easily one of the greatest teen movies ever and is rivaled only by "The Breakfast Club" as the best "Brat Pack" flick of the 80s.

The soundtrack, much like the film, captures the essence, the spirit of the 80s. What you get here are ten new-wave, alternative and pop songs that helped define the era. Standouts include Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's "If you leave," The Psychedelic Fur's title track, and the Smiths' "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want," but really the entire soundtrack is great, not a dud among on the CD.

The album is somewhat bittersweet, with the songs being equally morose and celebratory. Much like the film, the songs seem to focus on unrequited love and longing, with a glimmer of hope.

If you are a fan of the film, 80s music and or pop-culture, this CD is well worth adding to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Much loved music.......2006-04-09

I was in HS when the movie/music came out. Wore out my tape, twice, and melted another on my car dash in the hot sun and had to wrestle a fourth tape copy from my little brother who'd since discovered how awesome the Furs and Bunnymen were. Ahhh, memories. Still enjoy a good reminiscing now and then. I think I've gotta break down and buy it on CD finally! (Four rather than five stars just means I'm a tough grader! It's a great album, nice mix, very 80's retro.)

5 out of 5 stars Lovely.......2005-12-16

I had watched Pretty in Pink a couple of times when I was about four. Years went by, and I found myself in a used CD store, throwing over a couple of bucks for this soundtrack, I went home, stuck it in my CD player, and all of these memories from the movie came rushing back, I cried. It was so odd, I hadn't remembered any of the movie before then, but the minute If you Leave came on, I could picture Andy hugging Ducky....

Now, I wouldn't give up this CD even if you payed me, somehow I feel it's conected to my past.

Finally, a few months ago, I re-watched the movie, and I have to admit, the soundtrack is better. I liked the movie of course, but it was a little too 80's for my taste.

Is it forgivable that the second volume of songs from Adam Sandler's mid-'80s-revival comedy begins with Kajagoogoo's famously limp "Too Shy"? Not really, but the rest of the disc does a good job of recapitulating worthy memories from the era of torn-sweatshirt necks and mulletheads--not just with new-wave novelties but with Madonna and Hall & Oates staples ("Holiday" and "You Make My Dreams," respectively) as bouncy and glossy as anything the also-present Depeche Mode ("Just Can't Get Enough") and Dead or Alive ("You Spin Me Round [Like a Record]") ever put on the radio or MTV. The Cars' "It's All I Can Do" and the J. Geils Band's "Love Stinks" encapsulate the Sandler character's romantic frustrations, while the star's own "Grow Old with Me" actually points toward a serious career as a singer/songwriter for our boy. Loved the movie love the tunes. "Grow Old With You," especially tugs at your heart strings.

4 out of 5 stars Solid sountrack if you liked the movie.......2007-01-15

This movie was a favorite in our household and my daughters always enjoyed the karaoke a the end of the DVD, so we searched for the soundtrack. I actually chose this volume over volume 1 for two reasons...it contains the favorite from the movie, "I want to grow old with you" actually sung by Adam Sandler and secondly, because Volume 1 contains the song that Adam Sandler sings about his ex-girlfriend, which contains quite a bit of profanity, so I didn't want to get it for my kids. I would have given it five stars, but we find the introduction by Billy Idol at the start of the last track, "I want to grow old with you," which is dialog from the movie, to be distracting and it gets tiring to have to listen to over and over when you just want to hear the song, which I mentioned was the absolute favorite.

5 out of 5 stars As good as volume 1.......2007-01-11

This album took me back to "the good old Days". If you love 80's music this is a must have! The first volume was great but I was left wondering, "what happened to the rest of the music from the movie?" Volume 2 answered that question. You won't be sorry if you get this CD. Maybe it too will take you back to "the good old days".

5 out of 5 stars Finally found it!.......2006-02-25

Aahh...the uniqueness of 80s music. Been looking for the Flying Lizards "Money" song since then. It's been on several movie sound tracks however it never made it on the 'sound track CD' until now. "Leisure Rules"

5 out of 5 stars if you like the 80's.......2006-02-21

you will love this album. Truth be told I liked this one more than the first cd. The recordings are excellent.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the UK Version.......2006-08-30

All tracks are classics in their own way a must have for any diehard New order fan as the track listing differs from the UK version. Gone are the tracks found on Substance and in come the opening tracks from new orders first 3 albums + Lets Go(Nothing for me) a barnstormer of a track which I believe is only available on here or on the Retro box set. All in all a fine add on to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars 7 Years and Going Strong.......2006-06-11

That's how long it's been since I've discovered New Order and, consequently, it's also how long they've been my favorite band. I am reviewing this album a second time because I forgot the e-mail and password I had for my other account (brilliant move, I know). With that said, this sweet, resplendent compilation was the second CD I purchased by the group, following Substance. While I love both collections with about the same intensity now, I have to admit that I liked New Order's "Best Of" much more at the start. While Substance is an awesome album of singles that is a nessecity for any true fan of the band, "The Best Of New Order" is more accessible to new fans as well as to those who may be only casual listeners. The songs are short, but sweet: an excellent fusion of rock, pop and techno. It's difficult to choose the standouts, because doing so would mean having to name at least 3/4's of the tracks on this CD.

However, I have to make mention of both "True Faith" and "Bizarre Love Triangle," because these are the two pop gems that hooked me into the band. Hearing Bernard Sumner's smoothe vocals singing "I used to think that the day would never come I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun" on the radio (yes, there used to be a station in the Bay Area that played this song on a regular basis!) used to give me a serious emotional high. The same with "Bizarre Love Triangle's" catchy chorus, "Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray." While these two tracks I'm sure have been worn out by long time fans (as they have by me), they are the perfect tunes for attracting new listeners who love a danceable synth-pop sound. I only wish that the former track hadn't been cut down to about 4 and a half minutes (the original is close to 6 minutes long). For some reason I really like the editing in BLT '95, though, and I even like the remixing.

Other standouts include "1963", which sounds softer than the original and opens with a nice accoustic riff, the insanely catchy "Touched By the Hand Of God," and the incredibly underrated opener, "Let's Go (Nothing For Me)." I had heard that last track on a radio station as well and I had no idea who sang it until I found New Order via True Faith and BLT. As I stated in my earlier review, I believe this compilation compliments, rather than replaces Substance very nicely. True, it's missing some great singles (Perfect Kiss, Temptation, Subculture) but it also has some classics that Substance missed (Age Of Consent, Dreams Never End, Love Vigilantes). So, I would have to highly recommend getting both. Acquire and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Very Innovative.......2006-01-05

I'm a college student, and I find that current pop music doesn't do it for me. In fact, most of my friends listen to music that dates from the 1960s to the early 90s. I love this CD, New Order is very easy to listen to and enjoy. You can even hear the foundations of modern day house music within some of the tracks. The melancholy tone of the lead singer is definitive of a lot of the pop in the 80s, yet he does not bore you. Although I do admit, you can tell that all the tracks have somewhat of a general way of being constructed; so I recommend listening to the 30 second snippets that Amazon provides to decided if you really want to buy it. However, if you want a CD that is somewhat definitive of 80s Brit Pop, and made a huge impact on the Pop scene, I would definitely recommend buying this. It's a great compilation of the music by New Order.

3 out of 5 stars the best?.......2005-12-02

not good, not also bad, I just like half of the tracks, while skip the other half

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2005-09-28

this has quickly elevated itself to one of my favorite cd's to listen to, every track selected is really great and I rarely skip over any of them. This truly is "the best of" new order, and one of the best group compilations i've ever purchased. Definetly a worth while record.

Violator is Depeche Mode's most mainstream, chart-climbing album. Although it contains only nine tracks, half of them are tailor-made for the dance floor. This album was conceived when dance-club DJs were gaining recognition alongside original composers. Heavily influenced by techno-pop, the singles "Policy of Truth," "Enjoy the Silence," and "World in My Eyes" prove that DM did their homework. A particular highlight on this fantastic album is the bluesy guitar line Martin Gore lays down on top of the synth-dominated grooves on "Personal Jesus." --Beth Bessmer

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite DM Album .......2007-06-25

What can I say? This is one of the best DM albums. I listen to this CD almost every single day. The music is just so dark, sexy, and seductive, and David Gahan's voice goes so well with the music. I just can't help, but to say over and over that I absolutely LOVE this album. I agree with another reviewer who said that "Policy of Truth" was the best DM song ever made, but along with that song my favorites include: The World in my Eyes, Sweetest Perfection, Halo, and who can forget the 2 biggest hits which were Personal Jesus & Enjoy the Silence. This CD is a winner. For the newer mode fans I definitely recommend getting this album, along with Black Celebration and Music for the Masses.

5 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Album Ever..........2007-06-21

What can I say about Violator that hasn't already beem said here? As my title says, it is the best album of all time, and of course the best album of all time should be done by the best band ever, right? Every song on here is great, my favorites being Sweetest Perfection, Waiting For The Night, Enjoy The Silence, Blue Dress and Clean.

Sweetest Perfection is just that...perfection. Everyone is used to the most perfect-looking man on Earth, Dave Gahan, being the sexy one in DM. But, Martin sings this song so seductively, that upon hearing this song when I first got this cd, I began not only admiring this man for his superb writing, but being absolutely smitten with him. It's dark, obsessive and downright sexy. Waiting For The Night is beautiful and otherworldly, and is sung by both Gahan amd Gore. Hearing their voices together (Dave sings this song softer than he's ever sang on any other song)is absolutely heavenly.

Enjoy The Silence is perfect. The writing, vocals, and production are so far above anything that anyone else has done, it's astounding. I don't care what genre of music you're into, you'll love this song. Blue Dress is gorgeous and moving, but kinky...only Martin Gore can pull off writing and singing a song like this. I literally cried upon hearing this...this song is tied with "Question Of Lust" off of "Black Celebration", as my favorite song. "Clean" is primal, dark and heavy, with a tribal sounding beat. It is the perfect way to close the album, and my god, if you haven't seen this video, PLEASE pull it up on YouTube...all I have to say is Martin, pretty girl, couch. I nearly passed out when I saw it!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely one of THE BEST!.......2007-05-22

I can't get enough of this album (personal favorite since it was released) and listen to it everyday in my car! "Enjoy the Silence", "World in My Eyes", and "Policy of Truth" get me through morning and evening traffic. This is one disk I can't bring myself to eject. Every track is a favorite, but can't seem to get enough of the eerie, hypnotic, and sexy "Blue Dress"; the beat in that song is irresistible!

5 out of 5 stars The classic.......2007-05-21

I got hooked on this album when it came out, and my love for it hasn't dimished one bit. It's still the best.

5 out of 5 stars Is there any better Depeche Mode CD?.......2007-05-17
