Album Description
After a long, hot summer rocking the White Isle with his Global DJ Broadcast international radio show and gigs in Amnesia, Markus Schulz presents an aural snapshot of the season in this double CD, Ibiza 06. Essential listening for anyone who partied in the world's favourite playground, and for those who wish they were there, it's a summery slice of Balearic action in keeping with the prog-trance vibe that's been permeating the island. "It's my interpretation of this summer's progressive trance, what's done it on the island for me," says Markus. "The feeling that I get when I hear these tunes is indescribable! I love to play Amnesia, in fact it's one of my favourite clubs in the whole world - the experience when you're in that DJ booth, with that crowd - there's nothing else like it."
Customer Reviews:
Quite possibly the best trance cd EVER.......2007-06-30
I was on the edge about buying this mix because, despite the hype, his Miami '05 mix completely sucked. This is better than Buuren's '06 and '07 compilations and far superior to Tiesto's ISOS 5 (how is that guy still number 1??) If you like darker trance that emphasizes a deeper bass line contrasting great melodies then definitely get this. If you have a weak system then pass because you won't be able hear the what Schulz is doing with the bass, which is where this album shines.
Schulz Is Back.......2007-06-11
Cd1 is not that good. CD2 on the other hand is incredible. Very trancy with no lyrics.
good cd.......2007-06-09
Not a bad cd by any means. Not a lot of vocals, which is typical for Markus Schulz, but if you like him you'll like this cd.
One of the best Melodic Trance CDs Ever!.......2007-06-07
I just added this CD to my collection of Trance music that includes Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Christopher Lawrence and many other melodic and vocal trance DJs. Marcus Schulz Ibiza '06 is NOW one of my favorite CDs ever. This CD gets you into a great TRANCE with amazing beats to build up and explode....
Highly recommended. I'd rate this my third best Trance CD after Tiesto's "In Search of Sunrise 4 - Latin America - CD2", and "Armin Van Buuren - Live at MAXIMA FM (A Radio Station in Spain) 3 Hour set"
Ibiza 06 - weaker than previous Ibiza.......2007-05-14
I was a bit disappointed by this CD. It is more mellow than the previous Ibiza CD considering it is supposed to be a techno-dance CD. It is still a decent effort and should not be discounted if you like techno.

It's been 14 years since Michael Brook did a proper solo album, Cobalt Blue, but that doesn't mean the guitarist has been absent from music. He's produced and performed on pop recordings by Julia Fordham and Jorane and made numerous albums for the Real World label, including signature releases by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Djivan Gasparyan, and Hukwe Zawose. He's also composed and performed on film scores and was part of Hans Zimmer's soundtrack posse, contributing notably to Black Hawk Down, among others. He throws all of that into his new album, RockPaperScissors, which could've been called RockPaperScissors and Whatever, as Brook slices up a career's worth of influences and drops them in one load--albeit an elegant one. Lebanese violinist Claude Chalhoub turns in a mournful duet with Brook on "Tangerine," singer Paul Buchanan shows up on the title track, and a Bulgarian choir turns up incongruously on a dreamy, '60s style guitar instrumental, "LightStar." There are King Crimson-like guitar grooves on "3 Doges," and on "Darker Room," a spoken-word sample of Richard Burton performing Dylan Thomas's "Under Milk Wood," quoting the "Starless and bible-black" line that Crimson connoisseurs will note as the title to a one of their albums. Given Brooks's extensive work as a film composer and session artist, it makes sense that much of the disc has a cinematic quality, with many tracks featuring a full orchestra. Excepting Lisa Germano's haunting turn on "Want", the other two vocal tunes drag. Rather than honing a sound, as he did with Cobalt Blue, RockPaperScissors brims with too many ideas, as if Brook thought it might be another 14 years till his next album and he had to get it all out now. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Bold, Beautiful, Haunting.......2006-10-26
So compelling is this CD that on the rare occasions when the house empties, the first thing I do is turn on RockPaperScissors. It requires closer attention; one listening and you are entranced-at least I was. Then it resonates within you. Oh, Tangerine is so sweet and haunting. The Bulgarian Orchestra, Bulgarian Classical Choir, the Cosmic Voices- wow, it adds such a large dramatic sensation. I Loved Richard Burton doing Dylan Thomas in Dark Room. Bold, Beautiful, Haunting.
Wow........2006-08-09
I heard Mr. Brook on Weekend Edition, thought he sounded like a great guy and I wanted to support him and his new album he spoke so eloquently about. RPS, as I call it now, came a couple days ago, and this might be a bit cheesy, but I believe this album to be magical. Somewhat a musician myself I am amazed at the seamlessness and gorgeousness of transitions every time I listen to any piece on this record. Brook very masterfully goes from electric guitar to an orchestra to a Bulgarian choir and it's so great that 1. I wish I had written it and 2. why doesn't everyone put a Bulgarian choir on their album!? It's just really beautiful. I can't even pick my favorite piece because honestly my answer changes every time I listen to it.
Supposedly this new album is a slight departure from previous works, if other online reviews are to be believed, and if it is, it is a departure to beauty and lushiness and exquisite detail that is so very worth listening to.
sublime razors' edge.......2006-08-01
I am a longtime and loyal fan of Michael Brook. I believe him to be a brilliantly innovative and creative musical force. I was extremely excited when I heard he was coming out with a long overdue solo release.
'Cobalt Blue' is still one of my all-time favorites and his collaborations with Nusret Fateh Ali Khan and Djivan Gasparyan are equally powerful and compelling offerings. All masterpieces.
Brook has such a unique way of structuring his compositions, and when coupled with his experimental sonic approach it's just breathtaking. So many unpredictable and engrossing sounds, but not in a self-important way. It is very mindful of the vast expressive sea in which he swims in.
Upon repeated listenings within the past few days, I have to say that that "RockPaperScissors" is very captivating and engaging. Though I also enjoyed it upon first listen, I somewhat agree with the other review below that it didn't fully sink in upon first listen. I'm glad it didn't. I usually find that the greatest work - music that penetrates deeply and lasts over time - usually has to possess this enigmatic quality. Michael Brook has captured it in spades.
I also read the critical review and see that person's point; the album at first is a bit wide in its scope. Yes, it is representative of Brooks' entire oeuvre, but in the best of ways. Even Brook describes it as a 'travelogue'. In the end, it absolutely adds up to much more than the sum of its parts, and thus, it is great art.
However, I don't believe that the particular reviewer who wrote that review allowed himself the pleasure of repeatedly listening to this sublime recording. There are many layers here, both sonically and vibrationally (if you know what I mean), which cannot possibly be absorbed in one or two surface listens. It is also important to be in the 'right' environment and headspace to openly receive this type of reverent music.
Having heard "RockPaperScissors" now seven or eight times I fully 'get it'. It truly is a masterpiece. In some ways better than other previous albums, but only time will tell.
Though I love the entire collection of songs, highlights for me are: "Strange Procession" is classic Brook, with abrupt changes in tempo and haunting guitar notes. "Doges" is a polished and primal ethno-trance sure to pull you into the jungle muse. The title track, "Rock Paper Scissors" even works for me; Buchanans' voice works perfectly with Brooks' sonic weave . "Light Star" perfectly builds into crescendos with the assistance of a surprising contrasted Bulgarian chorus. Again it totally works, very well I may add. "Silverized" is my favorite; it's just gorgeous and terribly beautiful. It reminds me a bit of Eno & Lanois' "Deep Blue Day" from "Apollo" soundtracks, which may simulataneously be the most inspiring and deeply sad song ever recorded.
I only hope we don't have to wait another 14 years for Brook to come out with another solo recording. He is far too gifted and amazing to just allow those he works with to take centerstage. Shine on Michael Brook! Thanks for all of your creative energy, it is very appreciated.
P.S. For those who may be interested, check out an interview NPR had with him on Sundays 'Weekend Edition' (July 30, 2006). Nice insight and very humbling indeed.
Really really beautiful.......2006-07-28
The first time I listened to this new album I quite liked it but wasn't blown away. A fellow Brook fan told me to give it one more listen and as I did I was fascinated by a billion details that I'd missed on the first time around. I was amazed and yes, blown away. It's a gorgeous piece of work ---- Tangerine in particular. It's all stunning, really.

Fantastic.I came across this being a Rachel Brice fan.I am now a total Pentaphobe fan as well. It's totally different to any thing one gets accustomed to hearing relating to bellydance. Its addictive and it's fresh and hypnotic.Fantastic buy.
Wow.......2007-02-18
This is really great for Tribal. I've only seen the performance pieces for two of the songs, but the rest are also much fun to play with. I listened to it over and over when I first got it and go back to it when I want a really great mood setter for a performance. I want more!
Pentaphobe.......2007-01-17
This CD was just what I was looking for!
It has a mysterious tone and steered away from the more traditional glittzy Belly Dance music.
not so good..........2006-11-17
I was very disappointed with this c.d. The only good songs on it are the ones that Rachael dances to on the Bellydance Superstars DVD. It's alot of industrial noise with no melody. If you're looking for music to do interperative dance to, check it out. If you're looking for something upbeat and inspiring, you might want to pass.
An Amazing Music CD.......2006-11-10
I really like this music CD. All the music is so amazing.
If you love Tribal Belly Dancing, you will love this CD.

Very calming and relaxing drumming.......2007-05-08
This is a very nice CD when I put it in to play my whole house relaxed and clamed down and just listened very nice. The drumming is fantatsic, but if you do not like native american flutes not a CD for you in some parts of the CD the flutes are very loud. But I really enjoy this CD.
Drum Medicine.......2007-01-12
I really enjoy both CD's Sacred Spirit Drums and Drum Medicine. I live in an area of very little resource for this type of purchase- I was very happy to find what I wanted online- also very glad to be able to listen before I purchased- would not have bought them without that. Service was the best- shipping was also very good.. I will consider this type of purchase again when needed.
Awesome Drum CD.......2006-07-13
This CD is awesome I have it in my car now and that is all I play.
Drum Medicine rocks........2006-03-11
This is the best cd for playing along with drums or dancing up a storm.
Incredible - can this be the work of two white men?????.......2005-09-01
You have to listen to this CD to believe it. I hear the Native American flute, drums .... it's one incredible CD. I bought it to learn to drum but enjoy listening to it just for relaxation, trance states, etc. This is superb!

Incredible prog trance mix!.......2007-07-10
This is my second Markus Schulz mix that I purchased, Ibiza 06 being the first. Man, if you like progressive trance, you can't go wrong with this cd. Great mixing and great tracks makes this album an enjoyable listening experience. I'm looking forward to checking out his other coldharbour releases.
For the lastest in awesome trance, check out A State of Trance 07 by Armin van Buuren. It's one of the best trance album this year.
Good Fast Service.......2007-01-24
thank you for the prompt shipping. Products in exact condition as specified, NEW in this instance of purchase. Good Job.
Excellent Album.......2006-11-10
This is an amazing progressive trance album. Both the mixing quality and the songs themselves are truly something I would highly recommend. I would go so far as saying that there are no "bad" tracks on this album, unlike many other "trance" compilations out there.
From the mellow "I Found U" and "Close Enough" to the upbeat "Soul Dimention" and "Eighties", this album is pretty much a work of art.
Trance lovers.......2006-08-01
Trance lovers well this is something you should love to add into your stereo. Cheers
NIce Compilation.......2006-06-01
Better than your average compilation by far, but does not top Cosmic Gate back to back vol 2. It took me a couple of listens, but still gets heavy rotation by me.

#4: Martial Arts

Moving to the Music, a personal & "daily" practice.......2001-03-20
I first learned of Gabrielle Roth at a Sacred Path men's retreat. The retreat focused on sacred movement, attaching emotions & totems to each of Roth's five dance styles: flowing, stacatto, chaos, lyrical, and stillness. We had live drumming at the retreat and didn't use recorded music. On the way home, however, I stopped and bought a copy of INITIATION so I could work through the rhythms myself.
If not danced to, the music is OK, nothing spectacular. It's not particularly great party dance music, either. But as the basis for an embodied spiritual practice? Wow! It's hard to beat.
I open up with flowing, connecting with Goddess, connecting with Earth, connecting with Ancestors, connecting with Spirit, connecting with Heart. I let my body move in flowing motions, softly, gently, slowly opening, encompassing more and more.
Moving on to stacatto, I move into a new energy space. Man, the toolmaker, not simply flowing with the current, but carving out a life. My energy level is rising. Into this movement I pour my plans, my goals, all that I would control.
The third movement, Chaos, seems to be the natural result of carving out my expectations from life. I let my body move wildly, struggling to control the rhythm, to push the river, to herd cats. This is where I bring my anger, frustration, and fear, letting the emotions flow through body language, in which no lie can be enacted.
The exhaustion of Chaos leads naturally into the rest of lyrical movement. It's discovering a new level of peace, of connectedness with the Universe, with Goddess, with Spirit; knowing that I'm not alone in the Chaos.
Finally, comes stillness, where I allow my motions to wind down, allow my body to slow down, to come to rest, to enter into meditation.
I've not worked with the other body music on the CD, I don't have enough time most days to work through the five rhythms. But that leaves me something to look forward to.
AMAZING!.......2000-03-23
This is one of the most magical CDs I've ever heard. The music is purifying. It helps to focus my mind at the end of the day when I need to relax.

You all do not know Trance.......2007-01-08
You all are ridiculous, complaining about too many vocals. Take a minute and actually just listen to the music and the SOUND of the vocals. Yes, welcome to the world of electronica, the vocals are RARELY thought provoking. But are they ethereal and haunting? Yes. And for those of you who obviously hate vocals but love "dark gritty trance" you obviously have not listened to Ballymena which is easily one of his best songs ever, play it as loud as your system goes and give this album another shot. If that song doesn't move something deep within you, then you do not like trance music. Try Deep Dish or some deeper house music.
Magic from Markus.......2006-11-18
Markus Schulz, as a songwriter is impressive. This album reveals the true talent of Markus! Of course he`s an excellent dj and producer, no doubt, but this album reveals his greater understanding for music. It`s magic! After 15 years enjoying house and trance, this is great! I don't know what all the fuss is about with this album on Amazon. CHILL! I finally got it today and I think it's one of the best trance artist albums around.
Markus Schluz rocks my world and "Without You Near" proves he is more than just another disc jockey who can spin other peoples' tunes. He is an artist ... and a musician ... and he's a pretty darn cute dude too. I can't wait to see him spin in MIAMI again. Mmmmm.
"First Time" is my favorite track.
Without You Near.......2006-02-10
Markus Schulz's newest release "Without You Near" leaves me with mixed feelings. I can understand the wide range of reviews here on Amazon. I'm sort of neutral to the whole album.
I enjoyed the slower beats on the cd, but that's not what I was expecting to get. Actually some of the actual music on the album is quite majestic, moving and sweeping. It's that sort of epic dreamy dance that sounds so beautiful.
If the whole album were like that with minimal vocalists, I'd love it. However, the other reviewers are correct: there does seem to be too many vocals. Markus' music is strong enough to where he doesn't need that many vocals.
He's a tremendous producer and the music on here shows it. The vocals were ok for me (I can't say I disliked them, but I definitely did not love them). So overall a three-star release. Maybe worth a Used purchase but definitely not the full retail.
Are you people kidding me?? Markus one more time........2006-01-29
Are you people kidding me, this is an excelent album, yep maybe a little too much vocals but that's ok. I want to remember you all, this is an artist album. This isn't any copilation or other people's songs put together. This is the real Markus 100% I love it.

Album Description
After releasing their early records on Vogado's own Fluid Ounce label, Zero dB are ready to step it up, with their debut album, "Bongos, Bleeps and Basslines" on Ninja Tune. Though their main starting point is usually jazz, they dip into a multitude of different influences and work with talented musicians and vocalists to create their tracks. Zero dB's meticulous production forces their audience to discover previously undeveloped musical places.

Very different, but great!.......2001-09-03
I had no idea what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent CD.
Top notch.......2001-03-07
Yothu Yindicannot be put into the watered-down, new-age inspired "world music" category despite the aboriginal background of most band members. There are no synthesizers backing up a few notes on some "indigenous" instruments here; "Tribal Voice" is not easy listening. Instead, it's hard-hitting, full-throttle rock, with a powerful merger of aboriginal (esp. the didgeridoo) and more conventional instruments. The result is some really fresh and unique music that can't quite be compared to anything else - not even fellow Aussie rockers Midnight Oil, even though their political stance is quite similar. Yothu Yindi has done a great job of skillfully melding traditional sounds with rock and a relevant message.
Tribal Voice - Yothu Yindi.......2000-11-13
I heard them play at the Closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics.. they are a great group and could be used to promote tribal music all over the world.. This is a great CD .. would recommend to all!!!
Rock beyond belief!.......2000-07-19
No long winded recommendation here. Yothu Yindi rock and deliver their messages with undeniable spirit, joy, elan. Traditional tribal music and then wow! Reggie a little bit, some memories of the guitar from the Ventures, some headbanging tunes, some dance tunes and even a dance mix of Treaty Now. Thank you guys, you are amazing. Here's hoping some day you make it to the US for a tour. Ned Hamson, Cincinnati, Ohio
TRIBAL VOICES BREAKING THROUGH.......2000-07-03
Spooky, buzzing sounds herald the opener Gapu while the atmospheric Dharpa boasts a catchy, electronic beat and joyous chant, jolted now & then by an energetic chorus. The exultant ballad Matjala has a lilting rocksteady beat and equally rousing chorus. Not all the tracks work well, though: Tribal Voice is lyrically uninspiring, sounding like Midnight Oil at its climax before petering out drearily, while the lackluster Djapana never quite gets off the ground. Treaty with its potent house rhythm appears twice, one of which is the "filthy lucre radio mix." Keyboards, base and guitar serve the sound well, to produce an exciting and accessible fusion of Australian roots with rock and house without losing the roots credibility.
