Excellent singles band.......2007-01-20

No matter what you think of them, you cannot deny that Girls Aloud have put out an extraordinary series of first-rate pop-singles. the tunes and the musicianship have been well above average for this type of band. The albums have also been rather strong, surprisingly. Thus I warmly recommend this fantastic collection of pop singles.

Four years on and already time for a greatest hits disc? If Britney Spears could pull it off after only 40 months, then Girls Aloud's thirteen top 10 singles certainly qualify them for such an offering. Yes, the hype every music magazine in Britain has been making is true- the tracks this group puts out are insane. Name one other pop act who had the audacity to mesh three songs into one and proclaim "you can't mistake my biology" as if we were stupid all along to disagree? Or, for that matter, name their comeback single "Something Kinda Oooh"? The risks taken by Girls Aloud and their production-team extraordinaire, Xenomania, are ones not common among the lazy bits of top 40. To see such livelihood and originality from a band created by reality television is an irony if we ever heard one. Simply put, they're the finest mainstream singles act of this decade and the soldiers of futuristic pop. Ballads withstanding, every one of these hits sparkles with a ferocity and sauciness that are impossible to not fall in love with. Anyone who doesn't snap their fingers to the billyrockin' "Love Machine" or strike a pose to the positively sexy electro romp "The Show" is more likely dead, and to not gawk at the genius of "Biology" is a perfect insult. Even the much-maligned "Long Hot Summer" is destined for the pop hall of fame. The music press has proclaimed for the past three to four years now that pop is dead, but with Girls Aloud leading the pack, not only would it be alive and kicking, it would be better than it ever was. And we can overlook the limp cover of "I Think We're Alone Now" (particularly unnecessary) if it meant skipping over to something like "Sound Of the Undeground". Ready for a crazy night out, stilletos and all? You've just got the perfect soundtrack.

Loves it!.......2007-01-24

Haha, apparently I wasn't as attentive to details as I should have, bcuz I'm missing the 2 exclusive tracks (13 and 14). But the album rocks my socks. If you like any one of the Girls' songs, buy the album, bcuz they're all alike, and very catchy and likeable. When it arrived, I didn't stop listening for days. Its especially enjoyable during workouts. I didn't like ALL the tracks, but I would NEVER say that I wasted my money.

I have had this ever since it came out on 29th November 2004. It is great and is my most-played album ever. I am British and I wrote a letter to Sarah since she is my favourite. This is a brilliant album and these are my reviews:

01. The Show
This was a number one and the video is just fabulous (Sarah's hairstyles on the guys were funny!). My dad likes this one and keeps begging me to play it.

02. Love Machine
Love Machine keeps coming to me, first the single, the album, the "What Will The Neighbours Say?" tour and now, SingStar Popworld has it! Love Machine is great, and Nadine's vocals are shown off in this track.

03. I'll Stand By You
A cover of Chrissy Hynde's song. But the girls give it much more style and girliness. The video for this is set at a beach and it is beautiful. In the end they go into a tent and hug, it's beautiful!

04. Jump
This is a cover, too, but Girls Aloud's version is much more snappy. This could get you up dancing, and you feel like either Nadine, Kimberley, Cheryl, Nicola or Sarah if you are at a sleepover because in the video they're at a sleepover! Great dance track for discos.

05. Wake Me Up
The video is motorbikes! Like the title, it will totally wake you up!

06. Deadlines & Diets
Slow, ballady song which talks about an emotional breakup. Could this be Sarah Girls Aloud and Mikey Phixx??? Only time will tell.

07. Big Brother
Yay, Celeb Big Brother starts in a few days and I can't wait! So I pass my time listening to the funky Girls ALoud song and it reminds me of it!! Ooo, who'll be in the house this year?

08. Hear Me Out
This is probably the best on the album, because it has the same old obvious Nadine vocals that we love!!

09. Graffiti My Soul
Kinda punk rocky, but still the cool Girls Aloud style.

10. Real Life
My dad loves this, too. It's cool and it tells you to get your mind on your occupation.

11. Here We Go
This is the Totally Spies theme tune!! But without all the verses. I love dancing to this!

12. Thank Me Daddy
This is good, too. I loved it first time. I think it has the same opening as Big Brother.

13. I Say A Prayer For You
One word- Lovely.

14. 100 Different Ways
The worst one on the album, but it's terribly good!

This album is a must-buy, so get your credit card out!

The Neighbours Will Beg To Keep The Noise Up!.......2005-11-29

People who win talent contests shouldn't be given the chance to record music this good. Or at least your typical music snob would have you believe. "What Will The Neighbours Say?" is simply fantastic - start to finish. End of.

The bands debut album "Sound of the Underground" was a fine pop album, with it's dirty disco influences it gave us the inventive sounds of "Sound of the Underground" and "No Good Advice" which both featured a new pop add on - surf guitar. It was a strong pop album, but after one listen of "What Will The Neighbours Say?" it sounds dated already.

In a world where the charts are clogged with the likes of 50 Cent, Girls Aloud give pop fans a huge sigh of relief. Teaming up with Xenomania, this is an album filled to the brim with pop music that's fun, brash and sexy and it's not afraid to break the rules.

"The Show" is a funky electropop tour-de-force and if ever there were a female Duran Duran this is what they would have sounded like. "Love Machine" is akin to a head on collision between Bob Dylan and The Human League whilst "Grafitti My Soul" thumps the senses with it's electroclash rythms you can't help but feel this is what would have been the result had The Prodigy collaborated with Madonna. "Wake Me Up" is a 360 beats per minute (well..) techno blast marrying a indie rock guitar riff.

Not just musically, but lyrically, this album is great fun too. There's never the typical "I love you, you know it's true" thing happening here, it's all tongue in cheek and witty. It's not worth listing them because I'd end up writing near enough the whole sleeve out.

"What Will The Neighbours Say?" is more a great album at the hands of it's producers, Xenomania, who quite clearly see there's a lot more possible potential to pop music than just a standard structure and tales of fun in the sun. Manufactured they may be, but Girls Aloud are the saving grace in todays pop music scene. The band has a wide appeal which ranges from the teenage girls bedroom right through to the most booze-soaked of student union bars.

Finest pop album since "Spiceworld"? It's quite possible.

What it is..........2007-06-22

For me its an enjoyable and fun time had by Sugababes and Girls Aloud..since i'm a big fan of both groups. I loved the original song without question i mean Run DMC and Aerosmith who would've thought that would happen. But i enjoy this version by them they bring a bit of attitude and fun to the cover of Walk This Way and for me that's what i enjoy most. Not only about the song but the accompanying video as well. Good ya girls!!

Ok so I like Girls aloud a lot and i think that Sugababes are OK: but this is not at all of their usual standards. I likes Walk this way by Aerosmith AND by RUN DMC but somehow this is not that good. Take two talented girl bands: one which can do perfect pop (Girls Aloud) and one that is slightly more hip (Sugababes) and have them murder a nice hard rock /hip hop crossover classic. OK it is for a good cause so I do not care but still they could and should have done a lot better. Shame on all of them...

This CD is a tragic excuse for quality music. The girls have no talent whatsoever and the pure fact that they have been given the opportunity to make an album is a mockery of the whole music industry. The songs are annoying to say the least and the lyrics are equally as pathetic. If you buy this CD you will regret it for the remainder of your life, do your self, and society, a favour and buy something else.

Sad, cynical, horrible, untalented and vile music. This kind of dross needs to be stopped and wiped out as it openly mocks sound talent and flood s the market with c**p blocking yet another door to geniune talent in the music industry.
I have to give it 1 star becuase of the way Amazon software works, if I could I would give it minus 5 and torch every copy ever made!

This is the best cd I have ever heard. The girls do an amazing job on every single one of these songs on "Sound Of The Underground". The girls different personalities come out in the different sounds throughout the cd. All songs get a 10/10 from me. It is amazing. It's been in my cd player since I got it. Get this cd, you won't regret it.

The end of English pop in America?.......2005-01-06

Please do not buy this album i beseech you! You WILL regret it for the rest of your life! It is a complete waste of over $40 considering all the great music out there! Girls Aloud are the product of English stupidity namely popstars the rivals (a failed TV show whose result was Girls Aloud). The songs though having catchy tunes become annoying and the girls themselves are unable to sing and extensive technological work has been put in in the studio to make their voices on this album sound remotely acceptable (if you don't believe me listen to them live!!!) I find it disgraceful that such untalented vocalists are allowed to run amok on the music industry when undiscovered TALENTED vocalists are still struggling to make a living! PLEASE give your $40 dollars to charity and dont buy this CD! p.s.I would give it less than one star if it were possible!

I know I've already made a review for the original release of "Sound Of The Underground," but would it hurt to make another one? I'll just make individual comments on the newer/more improved tracks and contents which make this new re-release edition a superior version of the original. If you wanna see the complete track-by-track guide of all the other original tracks, see my review for the original album. Well, okee, I'll do a small runthrough of all the older tracks. "Sound Of The Underground" still sounds extremely fresh and funky with its drum 'N' bass rhythm. "No Good Advice" is still feisty and caustic with its rocky "My Sharona" beat. "Life Got Cold" is still more subdued, but is a nice acoustically-driven touch to the album. "All I Need (All I Don't)" is still really funky with its new wave/disco/electro-ed up beat. "Mars Attack" is still hilariously delirious and upbeat with its chaotic spacey uptempo. "Girls Allowed" remains the same diva club stomper that it has always been. "Love/Hate" may still be "Sound Of The Underground"'s sonic twin, but it's still hyper and feisty. "Boogie Down Love" is still claustrophobic and super hyper with its crazy boogie-down electro beat. "Stop," with its mix of jukebox-ish influences and electro, is still a lot of fun as well. "White Lies" is still a moody, more electro version of a Britney Spears/Max Martin track. The original parts of the album remain immaculately intact in all their electro-pop glory. Here's the new stuff:

4. "Jump" - A roaring electrofied party dance/pop track, it's actually a really good cover. I mean a lot of people have slagged this particular cover to be weak and characterless; I think it still showcases the bite in Girls Aloud's group persona. It's fun, carefree, and has enough electro production in it to make it edgy-sounding while still fun! I like the stop/start electro beat portion in the end.

5. "Some Kind Of Miracle" - The newer, much more improved (single) version of this song betters the original by making it tighter and more accessible. While the original version is more unpolished, this one is polished to the max, taking its potential to the great, shimmery, almost Go Go-ish electro-pop/rock gem it's supposed to be. Also, the vocal arrangements have changed, with Nadine singing first. It's always good for her to start off songs because she has the strongest, most distinctive voice of the group. It's got more beeps and bleeps and with tighter, more focused electro-pop/rock production.

8. "You Freak Me Out" - One of the nicest touches of this new-and-improved album is a safe, giddy pop/rock track that's reminiscent of '80s happy pop/rock lite. It's not as immediately agressive as the other Girls Aloud tracks, but it's still good fun (the lyrics can be a bit dumb, but it can be forgiven with its infectiousness)!

10. "Forever And A Night" - The supposed newer version of the track isn't as different from the original as "Some Kind Of Miracle" was to its original. You can tell that the producers probably added a few more electronic beeps to make the production more cohesive with the album's glossy electro-pop package (although subtly added). The ballad is still striving to be epic, but it's not bad at all. It's a welcome addition, but unnecessary: it's disposable.

15. "Girls On Film" - Even though this track was a B-side to one of their singles, it's always a welcome addition to the album because it fits right beside the other electro tracks. It's no surprise that this track is another electro-pop showcase, but is still a good cover nonetheless. It's more light and electro-pop than the original, but it's still all in good fun. Like the "new-and-improved version" of "Forever And A Night," it's an unnecessary track to make the album more complete, but it's always a nice touch.

16. "Sound Of The Underground" (Video) - The cool thing about this release is that it's enhanced with three music videos from the first three singles. Their very first video, one of "Sound Of The Underground," shows them already in full bloom as 5 saucy chicas. It's odd that right after Sugababes released their tornado club concept video for "Round Round," Girls Aloud did a similar "trapped in a club while performing" video for "Sound Of The Underground." It's a well-executed video, thankfully not monickering them as another cheesy pop girl group sonically and visually.

17. "No Good Advice" (Video) - Probably the feistiest music video from the feistiest single of "Sound Of The Underground," this video fits the song perfectly because it all emphasizes the idea of having a cheap thrill. While "No Good Advice" almost sinfully (yet with such ingenuity) takes the beat to "My Sharona" and makes it its own, the video's basically a super retro '80s rip-off with the whole fading effects to make it seem cool. Not the most expensive production in both parts, but one of the most effectively potent concauctions GA have released musically and through video.

18. "Life Got Cold" (Video) - A stark contrast from the video before it, "Life Got Cold"'s video stems from probably the blandest release from their debut album. While the song is no way bad at all, the video seems like it could have dangerously been close to being too damn cheesy for its own girl group promotional purposes. Thankfully the attempt to make the girls seem all pouty and worried with the icy blue lighting saves the video from total cheesiness. It's basically a video that shows how pretty, yet ginger the girls can be as well.

All in all, the new album gets rid of three really awesome bonus tracks from the original, but we get some awesome extras to compensate!

In the UK Girls Aloud have endured years of critical slamming reserved for reality show pop bands (which is how they started). So it must be a sweet victory indeed that Chemistry is not only their third album but also a huge success.

Girls Aloud (which I've only just realised is a pun!) have also recently become the only other girl group to match the Spice Girls record of ten consecutive top 10 singles in the UK. Which again begs the question - why haven't they also been huge across the globe?

Biology is the first single off the album, it's a strange mix of swanky seventies pop that bursts into a high energy chorus; it's a bit like three different songs super-glued together, and it's only the start of the fun stuff. These pop stars know a good tune when they hear it and Xenomania deliver hooks that just won't quit. Wild Horses ("...couldn't take me back to you") begins like a school glee club that merges into a fantastic blend of rock and dance and The Show couldn't fail to impress with its rapid-fire lyrics ("sitting `round the kitchen in my underwear") and its techno shimmy.

There's the bouncy and strangely familiar sounding Watch Me Go, Long Hot Summer, and the Sarah Cracknell-ish ballad See The Day (a D Cee Lee cover). Swinging London Town is brilliantly executed with the techno pace dropping away mid-song into pop ambience and It's Magic, is just that. The track listing differs slightly to the UK release and the Australian version of the album ends with a reassuringly warm cover of The Pretenders I'll Stand by You.

There's the odd misstep - the All-Saints-y Whole Lotta History is just dull in a way some people seem to like and Models wouldn't have made it on to a Sonia album, but apart from that it's 14 carat shiny pop stuff all the way. Go on, forget your cred, hit the dance floor and enjoy, Chemistry is a sensation.

Good single, even better B-side! .......2004-11-29

Girls Aloud have been on a roll this year. Earlier this year, the electro-pop "The Show" captivated (or at least got the attention of) nonfans, and fans alike. Months later, they released "Love Machine" a concoction of retro, 60's style music blended with a pop sensibility.

Unlike their previous single, "The Show", which sounds like pop music from the future, "Love Machine" seems to have went back in time. With it's retro-60's style music, "Love Machine" is a catchy and infectious tune that can easily be stuck in people's heads.

That is not to say however, that it's for everybody. If you're looking for modern pop music with a sleek sound, then "Love Machine" isn't for you. However, it is for those who are looking for good pop music, that sounds like it went back in time. Or if you're looking for good pop music in general.

Gravitas' remixes haven't really impressed me. "Love Machine" is no exception. It takes a new twist on the song into a "disco" style, however, it doesn't do the song justice. It's not a club stomper however, the remix does give the song a different style after hearing the original so many times.

The real gem of the single is surprisingly, the b-side "Androgynous Girls." It has the sleek sensibility of "The Show" however, it still sounds retro and "groovy" like "Love Machine." It's catchy, infectious, and has warranted more plays than "Love Machine."

Included are the video, and the karaoke video in which you can sing along with the video on your PC.

Overall, it's a good single, and it's worth it mainly because of "Androgynous Girls" and this b-side isn't included on their full length album that is released on November 29th.

THIS SONG IS SO...OLD AND CHEESY KINDA MUSIC.I LOVE ALL THEIR OTHER SONGS AND THE ALBUM IS FAB,BUT THIS IS THEIR WEAKEST SONG TO DATE.I LOVE SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND AND NO GOOD ADVICE.NADINE AND CHEYRL ARE THE BOMB.THEY ARE ALL BRILL
