Memories.......2007-02-20
Wow, all I can say is 'WOW'. This is a fantastic collection. This is what I grew up on and every song brings back memories of a particular time or place in my childhood. I've been buying various 'hits' compilations and many of them are remakes. So you start to listen and think, yea this is it, only to hear the voice that doesn't match your memories. Not so here, this collection is made up of all original recordings so your memories will be intact. Of the collections I've purchsed, it's the best. It can't match new music fidelity, but hey, neither did it in the 60's and 70's.
If you were born in 1958 like me, this will be a golden collection. I just wish it was a series and there were more sets like this one.
Why listen to it for free when you can pay for it?.......2006-03-07
ClearChannel strikes again! First they bought up all the rights to the great classic rock bands music; then they saw to it that any NEW music those bands recorded would never see the light of day (BTO, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and many others are still making great records, but ClearChannel radio stations will not play them); now, they're spitting out their own Digital K-Tel compilations.
To their credit, this is a pretty good batch of music. It's missing a few great bands, simply because those are the bands that didn't sell their souls over to ClearChannel to pay off the dealers and bookies. Rush, Zeppelin, Floyd, The Stones, Springsteen, AC/DC, all not here because they held on to the rights to their music. Smart move guys. They can still get their new material played.
So, if you live in a rural area where the nearest classic rock radio station just doesn't come in to good, pick this up. Otherwise, you really don't have to look to far to find this stuff, and ClearChannel really doesn't need anymore of your money to encourage them to continute bastardizing the music industry.
Classic Rock Gold.......2006-01-03
Classic Rock "Gold" is a double disc of classic rock's best. This 2-fer does have some good songs, but it also has some awkward inclusions. I had heard of most of these songs, but there's a few that I hadn't. Somehow I don't think those few should qualify as "classic" or "gold".
I wonder if this might have been better off as a single disc crammed to the maximum capacity. Still, buying this 2-disc set is much better than buying all the individual albums.
Overall Classic Rock Gold is a nice collection. It's just not that awe-inspiring. I'd say it's worth a Used purchase price.
+ 1/2 stars...Solid Collection of Classic Rock Songs.......2005-08-16
The term "classic rock" means different things to different people. In my mind, it's that decade from 1964 to about 1975. For others, it's the decade of the Fifties. In the liner notes of this compilation, the "golden age" of Classic Rock has been defined as the FM radio era beginning in 1968 and ending in 1987. They further define a Classic Rock song as "snatching the listener out of the humdrum here and now, and taking off..."
A quick look at the track list on this collection will certainly beg the question: Hey, where's _____? (Fill in your favorite song and/or artist.) Just keep in mind that Hip-O is limited by licensing restrictions. So what you wind up with are 33 songs (disc 2 actually concludes with Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again") that dominate FM radio playlists to this day.
I have only a couple quibbles with this collection. While it covers the span from 1968 to 1987, there is only one song ("Born To Be Wild) from The Sixties and five from The Eighties. Also, where are the AOR artists that produced great music, but didn't focus on hit singles? Artists like Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, etc. All but a handful of songs on these two discs went Top 40, and nearly half went Top 10.
But that's a minor complaint. Overall, this is a solid collection of some of the era's best know (and best loved) songs. For maximum effect, PLAY THIS MUSIC LOUD! [Running Time - Disc 1 75:31, Disc 2 68:19] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The best one!.......2007-03-18
I was always more a fan of Slash's guitar work and tone on the GNR albums than of the songs themselves (with a few notable exceptions). In my opinion, guitar-wise, this album is way more 'raw' and 'gritty' than the others. Slash's solos are absolutely perfect and full of emotion (Ain't It Fun being a good example), and his rhythm playing is devastating. It's hard not to smile listening to the menacing opening of 'Down on the Farm' or 'Black Leather'. Through and through this album just kicks, with none of the over-produced feel of the UYI albums. Axl's voice is in top shape as well and the choice of songs here provides a wide array of musical styles (still punk though), resulting in a very well-rounded album. That's why, ironically, the only non-original Guns N Roses album is also my favourite.
the last cd was their final.......2007-01-11
some song are good, but still guns n' roses was the best. recomented only if you collect their cd's
The String Cheese Incident forever!.......2006-11-07
Axel Rose should be ashamed of himself. What the hell is the spaghetti incident? this album should be called string cheese incident and include only string cheese incident covers! This is a covers album and none of the songs have to do with spaghetti!
Or do they?
1. Since I Don't Have You - Axl is upset his b*tch Stephanie Seymour didn't cook him spaghetti tonight. His love for GUns N ROses since he doesnt' have his spaghetti.
2. New Rose - Axl breaks up the original Guns N Roses to create Nu-GNR aka New Rose
3. Down On The Farm - Axel goes down tot he farm to recruit a new GNR lineup as well as having hopes in finding a bowl of spaghetti
4. Human Being - Yeah, human beings eat spaghetti
5. Raw Power - Axel punches his woman with raw power because she didn't make him his spaghetti! The Spaghetti incident track!
6. Ain't It Fun - No, making spaghetti is not fun which is why your woman didn't make it axel.
7. Buick Makane/Big Dumb Sex - Buick Makane is the name of the guy who replaced Axel. Big Dumb Sex is about Axel's sick love for spaghetti. IIIIIIIIIII want to do is F F F F F U!!!!
8. Hair of the Dog - Some spaghetti sauce was found on a hair of a dog.
9. Attitude - Axel punches out a waiter for giving him attitude about his order of spaghetti at wojno's garage.
10. Black LEather - Spaghetti spills all over the black leather seats in axel's limo
11. You Can't Put Your Arm Around a Memory - No you can't without a bowl of spaghetti
12. I Don't Care About You - Axel doesn't care about his fans or GNR or NU-GNR... jsut about his bowl of spaghetti!
great.......2006-08-12
there are the big albums i.e appetit for destructio n the illusions n then they were the little 1s like lies n the spagetti incident they were like fiilers for the big ones brilliant fillers though i think they were probaly going to make another big album after the spag...... but broke up before that could happen well any it is a very good album n i dont no why people nock so what if its a load of covers its still good. i think gnr should come back n finish what they started a brilliant massive new albumwith the original members because they did not go out with a bang n what they were rememberd for (honest, nasty, mean, brilliant, livin on the edge, Raw,ect)
Lean and mean.......2006-06-07
The Spaghetti Incident? is a tight album. I love the megalomaniac GN'R numbers with huge sound on their other albums, but this one is great for it's back-to-roots punk numbers delivered in full force. The covers are better than the originals, which weren't bad themselves (I checked the originals out, like they suggest). If I have a bad day and put this album on the world's right with me again. The sheer energy and the FU attitude is pretty cleansing. The album is avoid of any "fat". It's a lean mean rock'n'roll machine.

Blooze.......2006-09-07
A funny thing happens whenever a band makes it big. There's a mad dash to replicate the same formula, in an attempt to achieve the same success. It rarely ever works. Witness the mad rush to emulate Nirvana's success. During 1992, any band carrying a guitar in Seattle could get a record deal. And look at the number of bands that tried to grab hold of Korn's coat tails. There is now a generation of younger people who believe guitars all have seven strings, and bass guitars five.
Before Grunge and Nu-Metal were inflicted upon the world, there was a gold rush way out west. The race was on to find the next Guns N' Roses. Hindsight tells us now that the search was fruitless, but if a few things had turned out differently, like a little luck here, or the right amount of exposure there, it may have changed the course of history.
Many bands tried their luck, but fell by the wayside, due to lack of talent or good ideas. Some were never going to make it. Imagine if the likes of Bang Tango or Sea Hags or Circus Of Power had actually made some impression on the world. And then, some bands deserved success, but it never came, like Junkyard.
Junkyard's self-titled debut is a slab of sleaze, one part social commentary, one part celebration of the seamy side of life. While often lumped in with the hairspray and make-up Glam brigade, Junkyard's music has a harder, darker edge than much of the party time Pop emerging from LA at the end of the '80s. This album combines the best traditions of beer-soaked bar room Rock with old fashioned Blues boogie, sounding like a swaggering mutation of Motörhead and ZZ Top.
There are a number of highlights to be savoured. The laid back piano tinkling of "Simple Man" pre-dates the Gunners' `Use Your Illusion' albums and the ever awful Black Crowes, even if it sounds a little dated and clichéd now. David Roach's bourbon croaked vocals spin out a surprisingly gentle melody. "Hollywood" is a starry eyed anthem dedicated to Tinsel Town and its excesses. "Long Way Home" is a traditional drunken Blues number, like George Thoroughgood on heroin, played so slow it's almost going backwards.
Album closer "Hands Off" is the ultimate "get lost, I'm better off without you" song. Roach sounds like he's going to burst into tears at any moment because his girlfriend wants a bit of space, until he discovers she's sleeping with his best mate, and suddenly his resolve hardens. He belts out the chorus of the song with much gusto, which should be a drunken karaoke favourite of anyone who's ever been wronged by a woman.
Ultimately, Junkyard made only a small ripple in the wake of Guns N' Roses, missing the opportunities picked up by less deserving and less talented bands. Junkyard recorded a second album, `Sixes, Sevens And Nines' but by then it was too late. Guitarist Brian Baker went on to join Bad Religion. However, if this album conveys anything, it is that Junkyard deserve to be more than just a side note to Bad Religion's family tree.
blues,southern rock,glam..... what else ?.......2006-08-09
well, the title explains it all. I listened to this album the first time while I was touring Europe in 1993, and I can say that it really was the best soundtrack for that. I've been drinking, driving, travelling (by train)..."having fun"... partying all night long, and I never got bored about this. All friends were used to say "Junk who ?".... but now many of them have already this album in their rooms. Besides this, this is one of the best sleazy rock & glam album of all times. You can find southern rock, blues & glam at the same time. I'm wondering why they did not have the same success like GnR did. They mixed the southern blues with glam & blues, not very easy. It's not even easy to find an album with all tracks possible #1. No song is weak, all are incredible, the fast tracks make you drive through the desert or bang your head inside your room. The ballads make you dream about having your sweetheart on your side..... one easy example : the first song. "Blooze" is one of those song that want to make you hanging around and screaming down the streets and listening to your favourite music as loud as possible in your car stereo. "Hands Off" makes me wanna stay inside my room by myself, singing it as loud as possible, and dreaming about flying, anywhere I want. Let your soul & deep inside come out with this album, this is really gonna touch your heart and make you ride anywhere, anytime... I suggest listening to this album , while you're travelling.
love it.......2006-07-28
been looking off and on for this cd. SO was very happy with it.
Turn It Up.......2006-05-31
I thought I was the only one who heard this band until now. I heard this album along with Dangerous Toys back when I was 17 when this girl was dating turn down the lights lit incence and candles cracked open some JD and fired up a joint and layed me out, more ways in one. Great drinking, partying, driving, or kicking back album highly recomended for any collection of underated hard rock.
Greatest undiscovered rock band of the 80's/90's!!.......2006-04-09
This is a great straight-on rock n roll band. Great guitar and raw vocals, no posers or spandex here, just good ol' blue jean and beer breath rock. I have all of their albums and would recommend their live CD 'Shut up...we're tryin' to Practice' as their best.

Bust a Nut - The best Tesla Album.......2007-07-11
Buy this album!!! I bought it when it first came out and it's been my favorite of their's ever since. The others are all great as well so it's going some to say that this is the best. I feel that they matured a great deal in their lyrics and the songs all rock. It's truely a shame that they got lumped in with all of the "hair bands" of the day because they were not part of that crowd. Anyway, every song is a stand out. The band feels that they peaked on Psychotic Supper but I feel this is where the truely great stuff is.
From what I've read and heard in talking to a lot of fans is that this is their least favorite Tesla album but if you listen, you will find an awesome rock album full of great songs. This is one of those albums where I truely can't figure out why it didn't do better not only in sales but in the minds of Tesla fans. Buy this album!!!
Tesla continues to lose direction.......2006-10-17
I honestly feel that Tesla reached the end here. After "Psychotic Supper" failed to get the label support that it desparately needed the group just fell apart. With this the whole metal scene was falling away anyhow as grunge was dying off after the death of Kurt Cobain, and here was Tesla trying to make up it's mind what way to go. With the opening track "The Gate" it sounded like they were going to head back to the hair days of the 80's, but then the next song "Solution" they played like a lost and wandering band of the 90's. The rest of the songs just followed suit. The groups slogan is "No Machines", but there's also another slogan at foot here, and that's "No Music Direction", and for some bands that's possibly a workable concept as long as there's an inkling of where the bands roots are. With Tesla it's all over the board where they would score a top 10 hit with an acoustic version of the song "Signs", which is a rock song, to where they do a cover here of Joe South's "Games People Play". I feel that Tesla failed to show thier influences here, and was just trying to make a living; which is not a bad thing, but it pretty much kept them at a cult status. I pretty much had this album, but didn't listen to it at the time as I was trying to leave the secular music scene behind, and just move onto Christianity, and I know the album lurked around in my head all this time, so I felt it was time to face it; I feel that the album is below par for a group that can do some memorable songs, and to me it seems they wanted out of the label, and possibly away from each other.
Rock-Solid Tesla Album.......2006-07-23
You really have to hand it to Tesla. After the flannel-clad alterna-rockers pretty much wiped out the hair metal genre, (and yes, I know that Tesla shouldn't have been lumped in with Poison, Warrant, et al, but they were anyway, so...) in the early 1990's, Tesla had a decision to make. They could have quit releasing new music like Cinderella, or made some weak attempt at going grunge like Dokken. Instead, the band released what they knew their fans wanted...another great Tesla album.
Bust a Nut is exactly the kind of album Tesla could have recorded a decade earlier, or a decade later for that matter (see Into the Now). It's a straightforward, blues-based hard rock album that doesn't rely on big hair, fancy outfits, teen angst, or any other gimmick. In a nutshell (which is appropriate given the title and cover), Tesla is the quintessential rock & roll band. I realize that's a bold statement, but I think they would stand up against all challengers.
Back to the album itself, Bust a Nut may not be as perfect as Mechanical Resonance or the Great Radio Controversy, but it is on par with Psychotic Supper and Into the Now. There are some great songs here (Shine Away, Try So Hard, Mama's Fool, and Games People Play come to mind), though perhaps a bit of filler as well. Still, it's a solid album overall, and served as a bold declaration of independence at a time when many other bands were trying desperately to adopt the latest trends. Of course it sold poorly and the band disappeared for nearly a decade, but the album still rocked!
Stands The Test of Time.......2005-06-02
Music world since the introduction of synth changed a lot and lots of great bands like BOSTON, JOURNEY, ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and ASIA with bombastic dynamism in rock dominated the charts. By the late 80s keyboard-led music became necessity. Tesla came out of such era but stayed simple just as Led Zeppelin, Early Deep Purple, or Whitesnake. They recreated staight rock'n roll based on guitars and passionate vocals. Their style well honors Nikola Tesla, legendary inventor, where the bandname came from.
Borrowing Nikola Tesla's 1943 invention, a machine cracking a nut, as the jacket image, the band fulfills the hard-rocking yet dyanmic and acoustic rock to the edge.
The opening The Gate/Intro signifies their sound and SOLUTION rocks heavy competing well with Metallica's ENTER SANDMAN. SHINE AWAY, TRY SO HARD are my top favorites from this album and the reason I love this album. NEED YOUR LOVING is the beautiful Purplish acoustic masterpiece track. ACTION TALKS and CRY are well set heavy tracks. Since ALOT TO LOSE they search for pop area using covers and renditional track. WONDERFUL WORLD, no doubt was inspired by Louis Armstrong classic WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. Nice renditional track. GAMES PEOPLE PLAY is the full renditon of 1969 hit by Joe South.
Verdict: Rock'n roll masterpiece. Revitalizing guitar featured traditional hard rock.
Rating: 99 out of 100. Every track is the winner. Few albums can accomplish this.
Recommended for: Classic rock fans. Modern rock fans who love acoustic rock. Wide range of rock fans.
Rock the way it's meant to be played.......2004-03-04
I've alway's thought this record was their best, but many hardcore fans are unable to let go of the first two albums. MR and GRC were classics all told, but Bust a Nut song for song betters them both. If you've never heard Tesla before quickly skip to track 10, Earthmover and relish it in all its sonic glory. Tesla has never been about relenquishing its integrity to the fad following public. They are about writing great bluesy rock that lyrically mimic lifes ups and downs.

A wonderful blend of romantic songs.......2006-08-20
Forget Celine Dion and the other fluff on the "light rock" stations, for children of the 80s like myself, this is the stuff romantic moments are made of.
Wanna ride in my Trans Am?.......2005-11-09
This is a FUN double-disc collection. Power Ballads Gold has some awfully bad (in a good way) songs on it. There were a few songs I had never heard before, but they definitely fit the hair-band mold.
Definitely cheesey. Definitely worth the money. This is much better than buying all of the individual band's CDs, which probably only have one or a few good songs on them.
Rock out with your air guitar! Good songs for singing extremely loudly on the way home from work!
It has it all !!!.......2005-11-04
This CD has songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's. I have many other sets and honestly they do have some of these songs but this set is my favorite. This set has alot of songs that should have been on the others but were overlooked. Theres no crappy filler here anyone who likes this music must check this one out.

Gold's gold........2006-03-08
Ernest Gold's early version of this (main theme) tune was always a favorite of mine and it practically became Ferrante and Tiecher's theme recording (their piano version being quite good also!). However, here, you get "variations" of the music, compliments of The Sinfonia of London Orchestra, definitely classical, definitely contemporary, definitely melodic. While the background isn't exactly silent as you would find on a DDD CD recording, it's still acceptable and maybe even adds to the ambiance of what this recording is all about and the era in which the tracks were laid. I listen to it quite often. My only fault with the CD is that it's a little shyer in length than most soundtracks -- but it is what it is. Highly reccommended!
Beautiful & moving music! Not to be missed!.......2003-08-03
I can't believe that I am the first person to review such an excellent soundtrack! What can I say except that the title track, "Theme of Exodus", is probably the most beautiful piece written for a movie and the rest of the album is not far behind. Track 10 "Conspiracy" is another interesting piece with the authentic Israeli and Arabic music. Track 12 "Dawn" is one of the most dark and foreboding film pieces that I have ever heard, it definitely more than captures the mood of the scene.
The soundtrack definitely stands on its own, infact, in some ways I found the music to be understated or at very low volume levels in the movie, which for the time period of the early 60's strikes me as unsusual. I thought that the music would be more prominent, similar to one of its cotempoaries such as "Lawrence of Arabia"
I can definitely hear the inspiration for later soundtracks in this album. I believe that Basil Poledouris must have gotten some inspiration for "Conan the Barbarian" from the title track -if you have any interest to do so, listen to the two and I bet you will hear the similiarity also.
A very informative five page booklet comes with the CD. The booklet features some interesting information about the movie and music. If you are a soundtrack fan or love beautiful music, no matter you age, do yourself a favor and buy this album! If you have the movie "Exodus", buy the soundtrack so you can hear the music in all of its splendor!

Great except for one serious flaw..........2007-03-04
Great comp, great sound, great price. All the charting singles are here along with a generous helping of album tracks. However, there is one glaring omission...WHERE THE HECK IS THE TITLE TRACK FROM "DENIM AND LEATHER"? Although not one of their hits, it is surely one of their most beloved anthems. I simply can't believe that it didn't make it on this collection. Other than that, this set is rock solid.

The Donnas proved themselves more than apt at playing fast and fun party rock in a Ramones-y mold from their teenage get-go in 1998, then quickly amassed a huge following for their increasingly "pro," deliriously fun retro-rock. In 2002, they surprised lots of folks with Spend the Night, an album that showed more lyrical finesse as well as Cheap Trick/ Thin Lizzy-ish pop-rock flourishes. On 2004's Gold Medal, however, the wayback machine continues to spiral backwards, and the result is far less pleasurable. The songs plod along with little reward, most of them "going over like a lead zeppelin," to quote Keith Moon. There are some nice touches, from the Zombies-esque backing vocals on "Don't Break Me Down" to the truly psychedelic guitar solo in "Out of My Hands." But in the end, Gold Medal will likely be remembered as the Donnas album with way too much cowbell on it. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
The Donnas' eagerly awaited Gold Medal takes the top prize for vital, edgy, modern rock'n'roll at its finest. The quartet's 2002 break-through Atlantic debut, "Spend the Night," debuted in the #1 position on Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart, fuelled by the radio/video hit, "Take It Off," massive critical acclaim, and high-profile TV performances on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Now the Donnas have raised the bar, as musicians and songwriters, to deliver the best work of their career. Produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Injected), tracks like the provocative first single, "Fall Behind Me," and the poignant "Revolver" shimmer with rock energy, blasting off the blocks with newfound invention and intensity. With Gold Metal, the Donnas take an Olympian leap forward, setting a sparkling new standard for pure rock'n'roll brilliance.
Customer Reviews:
This album rocks!.......2007-04-09
The person who wrote the amazon review for this album must have been a complete idiot. This album is great. I love every single song on it. It is a great CD to turn up really loud and sing to at the top of your lungs while driving with all your windows down. I have always liked the Donnas and yes, this album does sound different, more produced and less punk/garage/party - esque, but it retains the spirit of what the Donnas are all about through and through. I think it is a move in the right direction for them and I look forward to their new album coming out this year.
Not for the squeamish!.......2006-11-10
The Donnas will steal your allegiance and give you new reasons to listen to girl bands. If you love the Dixie Chicks, Indigo Girls, The Roches, or any number of other talented girl groups, prepare to have your stereotypes smashed and your expectations fulfilled. These women rock!
Through their magical paintbrush of music and lyrics they will transport you into their world and shake you up. Not about to settle for less, they have formed their own genre, their own sound, their own music. Talent abounds, obviously, in the driving rhythm and deeply satisfying music of their songs...songs that give you pause to think and ponder their message. Songs pregnant with meaning. Songs to make you look upon The Donnas with respect and admiration for their talent.
Turn it up, if you dare! And you'd better love to dance.
good album, where's the next?.......2006-10-14
As previous reviewers note, this album was definitely more 'produced' than previous records. Surely it was record company pressure, like, okay girls, now we're going to cash in, turn you into big stars. But the girls maybe weren't so comfortable, so it's not their best effort. And guess what, two years later, still no new album. Wonder what's going on?
A Transitional Effort.......2006-07-31
It's been mentioned before, but the thing that struck me most about "Gold Medal" is the production. There is NO reverb or delay or ambiance at ALL - in some ways this makes the end result more immediate and accessible - but in others, oddly enough, it makes the band (make no mistake about it - this is a GREAT band!) sound somehow distant and sterile. The appeal of previous Donnas CDs was the sense that you'd turned the wrong corner on your way home and just happened upon the coolest and most rocking band on the planet. Listening to The Donnas was a bit like being in the garage while they cranked it out like only they can. They CAN crank it out and they do so here with a maturity and a willingness to expand their horizons that takes some serious balls. I'm sure they could recycle the familiar Donnas formula if that's what they wanted to do - but, to their credit, they're smart enough to know that in the end they'd end up being little more than a parody of themselves (unless I've missed something there's not a single reference to underwear on the entire CD!) After repeated listenings I realize that I LIKE these songs - I'd love to hear them in the garage - or on the stage. As good as the production on this CD is (Hell, I'm considering experimenting with a similarly "Dry" sound on my projects - I can see places where it would work well..) it's just WRONG for The Donna's. They need the "live" feel for their songs to have the immediacy that hits you between the eyes and keeps on hitting. They are growing as artists and musicians and I salute them for the effort and I'll be in line to buy the next effort. Go Girls! (Women?) This CD will one day be seen as the boundry between "The female Ramones" period and whatever they decide to become as a unique entity carving out a place in Rock'n'Roll history of their own. (PS - I'm available to produce and my rates are extremely reasonable!) But PLEASE - next time choose a producer who understands what makes The Donnas special instead of one who only knows what makes HIM special.
Donnas grow up.......2006-04-15
Gold Medal stands apart from other Donna's releases in that it actually sounds like an album instead of a quick battle of the bands set...I can actually tell the songs apart! Don't get me wrong, they always deliver, but this more mature, polished sound with no less spunk is refreshing.

Nowhere Near the Best Of.......2007-03-19
This is nowhere near the "Best of" as there are too many classic UFO songs missing. This is merely a selection of a few greats and an overview of the Paul Chapman era when to be honest none of the songs featured would ever make a true best of selection. Check out "Essential" for a more realistic best of collection for the period. Better still buy the Live "Strangers in the Night" album, which is excellent value and has all you need to start to appreciate a great band.
Best compilation.........2006-05-31
Better than the previously released "Essential" compilation CD. This was a great band that never got the respect they deserved in America. If you want to own a real good overview, then this CD would be it.
I would also recommend "Strangers in the Night" their double live LP from around '79 that captures them at their finest. One of the best hard and heavy live albums of the 70s.
Best single-disc collection of UFO tunes.......2006-03-26
UFO, while practically unheard of in America, were gigantic in Europe during the mid 70's to early 80's. When someone mentions hardrock from this time period, most people will talk your ear off about Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Rush, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath and other high-profile, mainstream rock bands people went ga-ga over. You won't, however, hear much or anything at all about UFO, a band from the U.K. that had a certain ace-kraut guitarist and a heavy drinking lead singer, especially in this country. Too bad, because UFO has all of those aformentioned bands collectivly beat IMHO. UFO:Gold is probably the single best disc you can own from this band, if you can only own one at all. Other then *Force It*, thier albums had their share of filler material to go along with the "hits", so this solves that problem. Also, unlike *Essentilal*, this covers the underrated Paul Chapman-era.
This CD covers all the albums from 74' (Phenomenon) to 85' (Misdemeanor). Here is the list of songs that made it off of each album.
-PHENOMENON- (74)
*Doctor Doctor*
*Rock Bottom*
-Force It- (75)
*Let It Roll*
*Shoot Shoot*
*High Flyer*
-No Heavy Petting- (76)
*You Can Roll Her*
-Lights Out- (77)
*Too Hot To Handle*
*Love To Love*
-Obsession- (78)
*Only You Can Rock Me*
*Hot N Ready*
*Pack It Up (and go)*
-No Place To Run- (80)
*Young Blood*
-Wild, The Willing And The Innocent- (81)
*Lonely Heart*
*Long Gone*
-Mechanix- (82)
*Let It Rain*
-Making Contact- (83)
*When Its Time To Rock*
-Misdemeanor- (85)
*This Time*
A awesome collection of songs from UFO, the most under-rated band, EVER! Everything you need is right here on this disc. Rock on, and thanks for reading.
UFO - 'Best Of UFO:Gold Collection' (EMI).......2006-02-26
As I listened to this 16 track compilation,I noticed at just how many of these tunes I didn't know by name, but I recognized them by their riffs.'Best Of UFO...' gathers some of the British metal band's better known material from(I'm guessing)1974-83.Cuts I was digging the most were "Doctor Doctor","Only You Can Rock Me"(so THEY'RE the ones who originally did this song)"Shoot Shoot","Rock Bottom","Hot 'N Ready" and "Young Blood".Worthy of many repeated plays and a true keeper.Recommended.
Awesome collection!.......2005-12-23
UFO's legacy is a large one and this collection delivers. A fine place to start and discover what all the hub bub is about.
After that, do get the live "Strangers In The Night" (Schenker at his UFO best)!
BTW, who's the bonehead that designed the cover. Whoever it was, apparently didn't do their homework as there are two pictures of Pete Way and none of Paul Raymond. You think the label would at least have somebody who is familiar with the band do the cover. :(

This Is What It Was All About.......2007-01-10
This CD should be ranked up there with Metallica's Master of Puppets and Megadeth's Peace Sells. This was groundbreaking Metal and still holds it own nearly 20 years later. From the infamous San Francisco Thrash movement, Death Angel's Act III is an absolute must for any serious Headbanger's collection.
Prog. Thrash at its best.......2006-01-13
Act III is the best prog-metal album ever produced. The production quality is obvious within the first thirty seconds. These guys must have poured their hearts and souls into this record. Seemingly Endless Time and Stop have more tricks and surprises than most metal albums in their entirety. Veil of Deception and Room With a View are acoustic wonders. Musically and production-wise these songs hold no imperfections. Aside from Everlast, I don't think anyone has done this well recording acoustic hard rock. Discontinued...This song is an absolute masterpiece. The guitar changes gears from Hendrix/Foxy Lady style hooks to balls out metal shredding. Somewhere in the introduction, there's a funk/bass thing reminisent of Infectious Grooves-style jam metal paired with incredible drum rhythms most would use only as fills. About two minutes pass before the singing kicks in, and it's the most intense two minutes of the album. I know some feel that Osegueda's vocals are tough to get used to but not any harder than Bobby Blitz from Overkill or the snarls of Dave Mustaine. He has a clear, non-Dio, vocal styling a little different from the average metal god (think Flotsam and Jetsam's Eric AK without the perilling screams). I can't say enough about this album. It's not mindless thrash fun like Exodus or Nuclear Assault, but it's not overly amazing musical witchery like Dream Theater either. Musically, a modern-day cohort would be System of a Down. If you are a musician and Master of Puppets or Peace Sells is your favorite metal album of all time, I would say this would come in around 5 or 6 (after South of Heaven and Vulgar Display of power). They are different from every other band in their time, so don't expect "the same old thrash album." The trick to enjoying the record is listening to it the whole way through. Listen to it cranked up and be ready to rock. The overly reverbed snare that kicks Seemingly Endless Time into gear will rip you apart.
Good old school thrash!.......2005-09-09
I just bought this to replace the scratched copy in my collection, but have owned this since back in the day. I believe this was Death Angel's last studio album before forming The Organization. Great for what it is. Has a lot of slower tempo stuff than their 2 previous thrash monsters, but the music is still great. Any Death Angel fan should own this in their collection~it's cheap no matter where you get it. Songs like Seemingly Endless Time are worth owning this. If you like it a bit harder, check out their first two The Ultraviolence and Frolic Through The Park.
Casualty of the Grunge Movement? My Ass! - These Guys Suck!.......2005-06-29
Ok, sorry for being so blunt, but this CD sucks from beginning to end....
First, I remember loving 1 song by these guys back in the old days, growing up in the late 80s....The song was Thrashers from the Ultra-Violence album....I saw this CD on Amazon for $2.00, so I figured I'd see how they progressed over the years....
The CD starts off hard, fast, and powerful....Ok, then after that 5 seconds of adrenalin (literally, 5 seconds), these old guys apparently need a breather, because everything afterward is slow and powerless (except MAYBE 2 mediocre songs at the end of the CD)....
In my opinion, Thrash is supposed to make you want to jump out into the middle of a moshpit and release all your adrenalin....Bang your head, pump your fists, and just go nutty....You will get none of that from this CD....
The production quality is much greater than their stuff in the late 80s, but that's most likely just because of cheaper technology....Ok, that's the only positive I can think of about this CD....seriously....
These guys do absolutely nothing original or exciting on this CD, no wild guitar playing, no fast powerful drum beats, absolutely nothing....It's just crunchy guitar riff after crunchy guitar riff, switching up the pace from slow to slower and back to slow again with no apparent rhyme or reason to any of it....And the singer is by far, the worst part of this band....It seems he tries to sing, but has the most monotoned voice possible, and cannot hold a note....He also sings with absolutely no passion at all....
I am so glad I only paid $2.00 for this, any more and I'd be demanding my money back....Stay away from this CD!
I like it!.......2005-03-30
