A Wonderful Introduction to Boards of Canada.......2007-01-31
My friend got me into Boards of Canada, after I got him into Aphex Twin. When he paid back the favor and introduced me to BOC, I was very impressed. My best description of their music is electronic divided by ambient, with the square root of classical, subtracted from techno. I currently own all of their releases which all offer different cacophonies that range for dark to divine. As for this EP, "A Beautiful Place Out in the Country" offers many layers and dreamscapes, and is a great sampler for BOC's melodies.
I was extremely interested to see what this little EP had to offer. When I finally listened to it I was pleased. With only four songs on it, ABPOITC is a mesmerizing selection of ambient/instrumental music. The songs are mellow, but also have a trance feel to them, Amo Bishop Roden (one of my favorite songs by BOC) fits this exemplar perfectly. This is a great CD to relax with, drift off to slumber, use as white noise or as motivation for writing a term paper. I've used it for all of the above. Overall, this EP is a wonderful collection of music and a fairly price investment into the domain of Boards of Canada.

....all I've been doing the last hour is sit in a chair....and listening to this EP 4 times in a row...
Great album!.......2005-09-12
Excellent recording! The music is fantastic! Electronic with an ambient edge. All of their albums are good.

Wanted to write a review for Twins' 'Drukqs', but there it's too crowded. Do not pass ANY Boards of Canada album or a single or anything without looking, it just won't hurt. This music is for everyone. So listen to it. I wonder what can happen to Marcus Eoin & Michael Sandison if everybody just started listening to their music, maybe a panic attack?
Killer release!, but so is every single track that BoC has put out, I just haven't heard anything even slightly out of shape. TOO MUCH CONTROL! But then we like to be stripped of our essentials and shown what we are not ready to see.

wow, this a great little ep. pre geogadi. these tracks were 4 out of 64 songs that were written for geogadi. 4 selected traks are on this ep, 25 tracks (from one sourse all things depend)from the 60 left were chosen for "geogadi" japan's version, 24 for tracks for the us version. boards of canada write more short songs then full length songs (said in an interview). they wrote 64 tacks! this is why it takes so long for them to come out with a full length lp. but when they do, it's breath taking. this a beautiful ep! the song "in a beautiful place out in the country" is amazing. this ep is different than "MHTRTC", most people like that album more, but this cd you can tell they are going to more of a change, which you can find out listening to "geogadi" which i think is their best to date. anything from these guys it amazing. great ep.
