Rhino had so much success with Volumes 1 & 2 of this series that they issued 4 more volumes in 1992. In my previous reviews for CD's in this series, I mentioned some disco songs that I wished had made it on previous volumes. The same holds true for these subsequent volumes. Most of the songs here are all great songs, but many of them I already had on the individual artists greatest hits compilations.

The 5 Star songs included here are:
1. Rock the Boat - The Hues Corporation (the first official disco record)
2. Get Down Tonight - KC & the Sunshine Band
3. I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round) - Alicia Bridges
4. Get Off - Foxy (the liner notes call this song annoying, but I love it and I also love this groups other hit from 1979, "Hot Number")
5. Macho Man - The Village People
6. Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Staton
7. Le Freak - Chic
8. We are Family - Sister Sledge
9. The Glow of Love - Change (featuring Luther Vandross on vocals)
10. Knock on Wood - Amii Stewart
11. Bad Girls - Donna Summer

The 3 Star songs(OK, but not great) included here are:

Get Down Tonight, Get Off and Soul Makossa. I love all these songs. They stand the test of time. Donna Summer, Village People and Sylvester. The very best from the disco era. This is a must have collection for any true dance/ disco fan.

Again, Rhino dishes up more good disco from the 70's. Highlights include the favorites "Rock the Boat", "Get DOwn Tonight", "We Are Family" and "Bad Girls", as well as the not-as-often-encountered "Soul Makossa" and the rather mature (for disco anyway) "Young Hearts Run Free". A few of the tracks simply never did it for me - "Dancing Machine" sounds like a parody, and the liner notes don't lie when they call "Get Off" possibly one of the most annoying disco songs ever. In all, another good collection for you if you "want some ack-SHAWN."

Despite a few oddities, the bulk of this CD is disco and pop hits from 1974 - 80. It's not as comprehensive as volume one, but it does boast all-original versions and great sound.

Picked this CD because I wanted "Born to be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez..amazingly the CD I got did not have this artist and song on it. Although the seller was based here in the US the postage was from Argentina. So I was defintely a bootleg copy of the CD that was advertised. Will this stop me from buying on Amazon..well CD's maybe.

Je dois avouer que ce CD a environ 6 à 8 bonnes chansons, pas plus. Il est moins bon que le volume 1. Si vous êtes des personnes qui ont grandi dans les années 70s et que vous voulez rappeler des bonnes vieilles années, c'est un must pour vous. Mais, si vous êtes fan de disco des années 90s et 2000, je ne vous le conseil seulement si vous reconnaissez les vrais bonnes chansons. Les meilleures chansons sont : Freak, Bad Girls, We are Family, Born to be alive, Rasputin', Flashdance...What a feeling, Saturday Night et Car Wash. En conclusion, Acheter ce CD si vous êtes vraiment accros de disco.

Wow! What else can I say? Growing up in the 70's, I ofcourse remember all these songs and I must say that this CD was the best Disco album yet! A perfect mix of all the songs that were top notch in the years, and it really brings back the memories! I'd recommend this CD to anyone who's dying for some true 70's disco tunes, because it just about can't get any better than this. A beautiful job on the CD....Buy it!

Begining with Chic's "le freak", it is a good start that this Canadian import shall turn you on first, warming up your legs with Donna Summer's "BAD GIRL", following the "must" anthem "we are family", pumping up the mood to "born to be alive" by Patrick Hernandez, I am sure you must be at point of no return: too hot to stop! Rarely, boney M's "rasputin" is compiled here in North America! Good deal! CONSIDER THIS IF YOU CARE FOR DISCO MUSIC!

    J'ai été surpris pour la qualité d'enregistrement des chansons. Ce sont les vrais chansons, sauf que quelques unes ont été raccourcis à cause qu'il manquerait de place sur le CD. Comme : "I will Survive" de Gloria Gaynor. Elle dure ~ 3:50 et l'original ~4:50. Ce n'est pas si grave que ça. L'important c'est que le "best" de la chanson soit là. En conclusion : C'est un "must". Il faut vous le procurer à tout prix, amateur de dance, et de disco!

          I was very disappointed when I received this CD. While the list of titles seems impressive for anyone who loves '70s music, what the listing does NOT say is that these titles are not performed by the original artists. Needless to say, don't waste your money on these imitation versions.

          I purchase this CD because it advertised the "Original Artists" "Original Hits".........It is not as advertised. None of the songs are by the original artists and nothing on the jewel case advises you of that. The song list on the back has all of the original artists names after the song as if they are singing on the recording. They are not. If you are looking for the original artists........look elsewhere. I did not purchase this from Borders.

          The sound quality, (bad) and the song lengths (very short, some are 2:00 minutes long) was very disappointing for me. If all you want is what I stated in the aforementioned sentence then this is the CD for you otherwise find another CD that have these songs, even if it is less, hoping the song quality does not sound like a bad duplication as this one does.

          I also have #2 in this series and this one would rate much higher if the audio was better. Again, sounds like someone transfered their old mix tapes onto CD & looks like they printed them off the computer. There is a fade after the Upfront track for no apparant reason.

          The mixes aren't all that bad, but mixing in & out of Upfront is a disaster, which is a shame as I haven't ever seen this track on ANY mix or comp (not that is has never been, of course). Knowing the full 9-minutes of the 12" by heart, there is no excuse for the lousey intro mix.

          Mostly beat mixed as opposed to quick crossfades (like current "mix" CD's do) and, as is the case Vol #2, you can hear the mixer skimming the turntable to adjust the pitch on some of the mixes. While it reminds me of my own first attempts at mix tapes, it also reminds me I can do this on my own & make much better (and longer) mixes. You get about 3 minutes of each song. The Donna Summer montage at the end is actually about half of the original 17-minute "MacArthur Park Suite" comprised of "One Of A Kind" & "Heaven Knows". If you are looking for the average, Top 40 disco comp, this isn't for you. This is for the hardcore disco fanatics that might be willing to overlook poor audio for superior song choices.

          I was so excited to finally get, "All Night Thing" from Invisable Man's Band, along with other great Disco songs. But this was a mess!! And they were all jumbled together. Each song was short and they all seemd to run into the next one. I know what a "DJ mix" is, but this was awful. It was like hearing one really bad song.
