5 out of 5 stars This is a classic..........2006-01-13

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this release. I have heard at many times at countless restaurants and bars in San Francisco and it's just a classic. You have all of the great downbeat/nu lounge artists on here including: Thievery Corporation, Dining Rooms, Butti 49, Alex Cortiz, J-Walk, Troublemakers and the list goes on. This album is mostly instrumental and it's the best for chilling at home or for a cocktail party.

The album starts out nice and slow with M. Dupont with Dining Rooms. M. Dupont has that very cinematic French flair and it's quite nice. Follows right up with Troublemakers Fatigue Universelle another French themed downbeat track. Right after we head to a more funky, 70's soul sound with Soul Vibration by J-Walk. The smooth soul sound sticks around with Smooth by Alex Cortiz. This track is quite nice and funky. The next track is another French cinematic sounding track. This time it's J-walk again with French Letter.

Skyscraper by Kinobe is an instrumental track having some 60's hippy sounds to it. It's very groovy and funky at the same time. One of my favorite tracks on here is Kalas by Butti 49. It's got the 60's sound all freshened up for the 2000's. It's quite nice and fun to listen to. Next up is Thievey Corporation displaying their trademark sound with Samba Tranquillle. It's a great track and it sounds nice every listen.

The rest of the CD takes a real mellow turn for the late nite chill crowd. It's nice to wind down a party with.

This CD is well worth the investment of fifteen dollars if you are at all into nu lounge and downbeat. It's a classic!

4 out of 5 stars pretty good but not overly memorable.......2005-12-15

I got this because of the rave reviews. Overall it's pretty good back ground chill, but most of the tracks just don't stick, maybe cuz it just gets tooo sleepy and lacks the occasional uptempo tracks. Track 10 I think is the best, by Soulstance who I had not heard of and now about to look into their releases. so it was worth the purchase just for that discovery.

5 out of 5 stars One of Favorite Chill Albums.......2003-11-04

Ok, this is Amazon, where you can't trust many recommendations... but this has been one of my favorite Chill-Lounge CD for over a year.

All 4 Disks are awesome, Vol 3 is the best, 4 just behind it; Vol 2 has great tracks, and Vol 1 can be had elsewhere. This Vol 3 is the pinnacle of the series (so far), and has been my top recommendation to my friends; do not pass this up!

5 out of 5 stars Cosmopolitan Atmosphere.......2002-03-07

With the relevantly recent revival of lounge music, it is getting all the more harder to pinpoint the good releases. Especially if one is dealing with compilations. This is a true little gem! There is a smooth flow throughout the entire compilation creating a true lounging atmosphere. This is not just a filler for your cocktail party by the pool, although your party would be very successful if you played it for your guests. This CD has substance and can be enjoyed as such. Tracks like "Mr. Dupont" by the Dining Rooms, and "French Letter" by J-Walk add a nice french flavor to this mix, while Thievery Corporation's "Samba Tranquille" gives it a brazilian twist. I enjoy every single minute of it. Another magnificent release, from a great series.

5 out of 5 stars Tales from the sofa.......2002-01-31

If you're wandering aimlessly in search of a record that could recreate the excitement of your
cosmopolitan late night excursions, you might want to lend both ears to the third installment of the Hi-Fidelity series. As other compilations in the chill-out genre have by now ran out of steam, recycling the same 5 year old tracks heard everywhere else, Guidance records keeps digging out true musical gems. While "Lounge"(featuring tracks by the Dining Rooms, Thievery
Corporation, Soulstance, etc...) plays off as the sexy, groove laden soundtrack for metropolitan
cocktail-sipping hipsters, "Dub Session" is a more intimate affair, delivering this time a much
more progressive selection (featuring the works of Cotton Belly, Tosca, Boozoo Bajou, DJ Krush et al...), preserving the deep roots of dub, but thrusting the bass-heavy rhythms forward into the new millennium. Both albums and their predecessors in the series, simply stand out as the best collection of their kind."

5 out of 5 stars Yup - it's a good one!.......2005-04-27

The latest, almost the greatest. I can safely say that all four of these CD's are somewhere in the top ten percent of my favorites. Yes, I can honestly say that!

I use these albums like a 'wish list' of awesome music. Guidant also produces some great artists that aren't listed in these albums. See also 'Caia'.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Chill.Lounge mid-tempo collection.......2003-11-04

The Hi Fedelity Lounge series is excellent, with Vol 3 and 4 being some of the best available. Vol 2 is 4-stars, Vols' 3 & 4 are 5 stars (I still give Vol 3 an edge).

This is a great addition to your collection; Excellent!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent... again..........2003-09-09

Again the compilators of Hi Fidelity lounge delivers, this is a smooth compilation, that is perfect for late evenings with something hot to drink, gathered with good friends. This is a record that is perfect for "background" music, and just as perfect for listening... Favourite track have to be Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band!! Once again the brilliant Norwegians delivers a smooth lounge track!! Highly recommendable! Check out their album as well!!

5 out of 5 stars Best one in the Hi Fidelity Lounge series!.......2005-04-27

The Vol 2 CD represents the very best of this series - I own and listen to all four of these, and recommend that you get them all. But this one has the most diversity and soul of the group. I use these albums like a 'wish list' of awesome music. Guidant also produces some great artists that aren't listed in these albums. See also 'Caia'.

4 out of 5 stars but Vol. 1 it's better.......2003-06-16

I was looking to number 2 after that Vol. 1 was one of my favorits. Probably i pretend to much but the Vol. 2 it's for sure one star less. Infact i feel that this CD it's not a surprise and more standard (probably too much thinked). Anyway the general sound it's ok and you can find funk-jazz-ambient music of high class. One pearl over all it's the last track : COOL (BARBARE) a reggae-lounge smart and sweet song, very impressive also I:Cube (Adore) and the song of The Troublemakers. Finally i am happy of this CD, but i was looking for another five stars like the Vol.1 that i suggest.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is very "Funky For You"........2003-03-02

This CD, for lack of a better word, is "THE BOMB"!
Every song on here is awesome but my favorite songs are:
"You, My Baby, and I", "Incident at Gate 7", "Funky For You", "Adore", "Remember Me", and "Cool (Barbare)".

"You, My Baby, and I" seems abrasive at first but it quickly turns into wonderful lounge. The music is very ambient and it hugs your brain. The vocals on this song are beautiful.

"Incident at Gate 7" is one of my favorite Theivery Corporation songs. This song sounds like you're lying on a tropical island, just bronzing in the sunlight and drinking your Martini.

If "Funky For You" doesn't make you want to dance, it will make you want to relax and take a load off. Sit in a comfortable chair or lay in bed and just let the day slide off of you. Great vocals. Very urban but also very ambient and awesome.

"Adore" has to be one of the brightest gems on this CD. This song is just gorgeous. This song kisses your brain. Listen to this song. I don't even have to explain more because I know you'll love it.

"Remember Me" is a beautiful song. The vocals are so beautiful. You will end up playing this song on a loop for days.

and lastly, "Cool (Barbare)" is very Reggae and very gorgeous too. This song will make you dance and wish you knew French. You will definitely love this song. Its very fun and loungey.

I bought this CD and was very happy with it. I didn't know who anyone was except Theivery Corporation, so I was kind of scared this CD was going to be [bad]. I don't regret buying this CD at all.

If you buy this CD, you will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Forbidden Paradise.......2003-01-22

I'm a smooth jazz listener and player, so when it came to venturing outside of my turf, I took a chance with this side of the music spectrum. After one play, with my electric bass in hand, I was intoxicated to the ambience of this recording. You will be whisk away to a place of forbidden pleasures, because you have been hypnotized into thinking that your hipper than you are. Start with the first track "You, My Baby & I", and you will find yourself wanting more and more of her voice in this sultry sexual threesome. (I don't know how to spell mauna shwa twah) The secound cut reminds me of Diana Ross being stopped in an airport for drug smuggling and just as high on them. "Funky for You" is so urbannnnn and has on line that says - "see the little people with nothing left, and nothing to wear, but making it through, I'm funky for you". The song moves from the key of E to the key of C with a very soulfull bass-line. If your from the any large city, and have any heart left, this one will move you. Planetary deadlock shows me a very high conscience and really is a beautiful way of expressing our futile existence on the earth. Even if your a strict jazz or rock connoisseur, let this recording grow on you, and you will be all the worldlier for it.

5 out of 5 stars Nice and classic.......2002-11-26

The current market for modern house, dub, downtempo, slash whatever music can be frightening for those people just getting into the field. People hear the music in clubs and like it. But when they go to buy, it's a different story. So many labels, producers, compliations are out there along with a good amount of genuine [stuff]. No wonder that this broad genre of music is still facing a challenge in catching on in the states.

Labels like Chicago's Guidance (along with New York's Naked, HedKandi from the UK, and Compost from Germany) cut through all of that and give casual buyers quality tracks, nothing less. Out of the three versions of Hi Fidelity Lounge, I find volume 2 the strongest by far - not at all boring if you listen for the subtleties in production and composition across artists. The iCube track, "Adore," is masterful and practically worth the price of admission alone, and there's not a single track that I wouldn't mind grooving out to in the club (or the bedroom, or the kitchen). The label has done a good job of putting them together in an order that "feels" like a well-selected set.

If you go out to lounge or downbeat nights on the town and find yourself with the urge to look over the DJ's shoulder every other track, check out this series as well as Hi Fideliy Dub sessions. You'll probably find a lot of what's being played out on this label and the others mentioned. If you're an experienced DJ, a CD like this is a great way to preview what you're going to buy on vinyl next time you visit the record store. If you're lucky enough, you may even find it on vinyl.

4 out of 5 stars Sub sonic groove.......2006-01-13

When the lights dim out and all you need is...a mysterious beat, intriguing horns and a smoothly arranged mellowness, then this little guy will do the trick. World rhythms (congas, bongos and the rest) mingle flawlessly with guitar, jazzy flutes and horns, in and out of sync beats, and always a pleasurable melody tying in this sophisticated mish mash of tunes. It does have a modern retouch to it but will satisfy the ears inspired by cool jazz, bee bop and listeners wise enough to tell the difference between smart music and false modernism. Let the groove fill you in...

3 out of 5 stars Good CD, but lacks something.......2004-05-23

I was really feeling the beginning of this CD but felt that it lost its way in the middle. It has some great tracks on it but I would recommend an ESL compilation over one of these hi fidelity ones.

    5 out of 5 stars sweet !.......2003-11-30

If you like slow jazzy beats, this cd won't dissapoint you...

5 out of 5 stars It' s Vol 1 but also Number One !!.......2003-06-16

Yes this it's a real five stars CD. I love every tracks, so different and so beautiful, you can pass trought Luis Vertigo to Thievery Corporation (Lebanese Blonde it's a song that alone give already the five stars) to Marshmellow without any shock (and pls don't miss Season). The sequence of every traks it's the real masterpiece of the CD.
Well you understand that i like this Cd but i'am sure that this Cd it's very good also for who would like to came across to this kind of music..because when the music it's good...it's good for everyone!

4 out of 5 stars Good, but a little lifeless.......2001-10-12

Although about half the tracks on this compilation are very aurally pleasing, the cd overall doesnt have much energy. The opening track really sets things up with a 70s style funky groove, but the following few tracks kind of bring it down to an almost boring level. Its not the tempo, its the feel...and a few of these songs have none. I love listening to this but I find myself skipping over a few of the same tracks every time. something I usually don't do with 'various atrists' cds. If you like modern lounge/downbeat acid jazz you can't really go wrong with this one, but don't expect a masterpiece.
