Point of No Return.......2007-01-04
If you liked the movie you will enjoy the soundtrack. You can actually
invision the scenes as you listen. I also enjoyed the old songs of Nina Simone.
Point of No Return.......2005-10-24
The songs are great. The incidental music from the soundtrack is a little bland.
I have to rave. Sorry.......2001-11-27
Note: I usually review Selena items, but...well, just read this, okay? You'll understand why I had to recommend this to anyone who looks up this CD on Amazon.com.
I haven't actually bought the soundtrack CD, just downloaded it in the glory days of Napster. However, I'd seen the movie when it was in theatres in 1993 and fell in love with the instrumentals. My favorite is "Happy Birthday Maggie," and it's my favorite instrumental of all time.
I'm about to buy the CD from Amazon.com, because I desperately want a copy for myself. The instrumentals are just so beautiful and haunting that I have to have this entire CD.
Discover Nina Simone.......2001-11-09
This movie soundtrack I fell in love with the first time I had seen the film. I wanted to find out why Maggie was so moved by this woman's voice. It has since turned me onto Nina Simone myself, she is everything from soulful to gospel to blues and more. Discover her yourself, you won't be disppointed! This is one of my favorite soundtracks.
Thanks for reading!

So, so.......2007-06-08
There are some nice songs on this CD but it is certainly a stretch to call it the all time greatest movie songs. Many are songs you never heard of from movies you never heard of.
A MUST HAVE FOR THE COLLECTOR.......2005-10-11
WHAT A NICE SUPRISE, I ALL MOST MISSED THIS ONE. I SAW IT IN A STORE BUT DIDN'T GET IT. I GOT TO SAMPLE IT TODAY AND NOW WISH I
HAD GOT IT THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT. PUT UP YOUR FEET AND RELAX AWHILE THIS ONE IS SMOOTH, CALMS THE NERVES. WE ALL NEED THAT TIME OUT THESE DAYS. IT'S A KEEPER AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!!!
A REAL NICE COMPILATION, SOMEONE HAS GOOD TASTE...
Buy the double version CD as the best songs are on the 2nd C.......2003-08-03
I have this album but it comes with two CD's. If amazon's version really only comes with one I would recommend going to an actual CD store as I've never seen this CD with just one disc before. It always has two and the cover is black with everything else exactly the same.
Two discs of music provide a vast range songs. Some slow, some fast, some good, some not. The thing you want from soundtracks is for your imagination to be taken back to those movies when the song is playing and to be honest not all these songs do that but there are a substantial number of good ones that do.
The advantage this album has over similar ones is that all the songs on here are by the original artists, the same ones you actually here in the films. No doubt you will not like all the songs on here and some do appear on a lot of compilation albums but with 40 songs you surely will find enough you will enjoy.
Excellent 80's songs such as Ghostbusters, Take My Breathe Away and When The Going Gets Tough (The Tough Get Going) along with 70's classics like, Mustang Sally and Knockin' on Heaven's Door when combined with 90's movie hits such as The Shoop Shoop Song and Philadelphia make this a huge album.
This is not even the greatest movie songs from the 1990s.......2003-07-26
Ah, the joys of hyperbole. If this is indeed "The All Time Greatest Movie Songs" then you would have to believe that the medium was invited in the mid-1980s when "Ruthless People" came out, because that is the only film not from the 1990s in this collection (and I vividly remember going to see "A Hard Day's Night" and "Lawrence of Arabia" in the 1960s). Would it have been so very wrong to say this collection represented the greatest movie songs of the 1990s? Well, yes, because that would not be true either.
Here you will find a #1 song from the Billboard charts, "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin" performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, an Oscar winning song, "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen, and the album starts off with a song that accomplished both feats, "My Heart Will Go On," Celine Dion's end title tune from "Titanic." But the best selling movie song from the decade is not here: Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" from "The Bodyguard," which spent 14 weeks at #1. You do get Michael Jackson doing "Will You Be There (Theme from 'Free Willy')," but I do not think that is a good thing.
Overall the artists are better than the tunes. You have Lauryn Hill, Sophie B. Hawkins, Michael Bolton, Gloria Estefan, Kenny Loggins, Barbra Streisand, Bryan Adams, Billy Joel, Des'ree, and Luther Vandross. However, I bet you would be hard pressed to correctly identify half of the songs those artists sing on this album. Maybe part of the problem is that except for "Men in Black" by Will Smith, none of songs double as the title of the film. You might be able to whistle the theme from "Patton" or sing the title tune from your favorite Bond movie, but could you even name what song would be on the album if I told you it was from "William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet" or "Simon Birch"?
The final nail in the coffin of this collection is going to be that you probably already have the best songs on "All Time Greatest Movie Songs." That means chances are remote you will find three or four songs you really want to add to your music library.
An Outstanding Collection of Original Artists' Songs !!.......2001-09-26
Finally, a collection of movie music by the original soundtrack artists! This is an wonderful selection; particularly "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen, "Go the Distance" by Michael Bolton, and "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" by Marc Anthony & Tina Arena. I would Highly Recommend this CD to anyone looking for a fine selection of movie songs - THIS is the one to have!

Customer Reviews:
A Soundtrack On Wonder's Brilliant Creativity.......2007-03-11
The soundtrack - released in May 1991 by Motown Records - is a great Stevie Wonder album. From the sprightly pop of Fun Day & Jungle Fever, to ballads like I Go Sailing and that classic R&W (Rhythm & Wonder), there is a lot of musical territory covered in the 11 tracks.
Wonder as torch singer on Make Sure You're Sure is my favorite, with the strings and his subtle piano solo to end the piece so impressive. The real spirituality found within the soul is explored in Chemical Love and - as with many of Wonder's songs - Lighting Up The Candles covers the emotional gamut surrounding shattered love.
Each Other's Throats is a classic expose on societal hatred from many angles, but the prior track - These Three Words - implores the listener to reach out to family & friends while you are still able to do so. Fun Day is a nice summertime song and full of optimism, while Gotta Have You has a wicked beat that really brings out the lyrics.
The compositions are solid, which makes Jungle Fever: Music From The Movie a soundtrack on Wonder's brilliant creativity.
'Gets stronger as the album progresses.......2005-03-05
There is no denying that Stevie Wonder is a musical genius: he's a singer, a profound lyricist, and an accomplished master of several musical instruments, all made more remarkable because of his blindness. He has never let his "disability" keep him from "seeing" the good and bad of the world.
This album, though not in the same league as his 70's triumphant quintet ("Music of the Mind," "Talking Book," "Innervisions," "Fulfillingness First Finale," and the Grammy-winning "Songs in the Key of Life"), is a mixed bag.
It begins with three forgettable tunes, including the popular-but-so-sweet-it's-sickening "These Three Words." Wonder's gift is his complexity as an artist; unfortunately, the song in question is too simplistic in both words and music, reminiscent of the artist's Oscar-winning "I Just Called to Say I Love You."
Glimpses of vintage Stevie can be found on "Each Other's Throats," a condemnation of domestic violence; "If She Breaks Your Heart," a duet with Kimberly Brewer; "Gotta Have You" and the title cut, the two songs obviously geared for the dance floor; and "Make Sure You're Sure," a lush string-laden track concerning commitment in a relationship.
My favorite among the remaining songs is "I Go Sailing". On that song Wonder's lyrics tell the listener that personal reflections or "sailing" will result in a discovery and growth. The accompanying music symbolizes the movement on the ocean, with its ebbs and flows, adding "buoyancy" to the singer's words.
Fun Day ! .......2005-01-28
Jungle Fever is Stevie's return to form after the boring "Characters"
First of all, his vocals, save one song is back in form, strong, vibrant, the Stevie we all know from the seventies. He doesnt do anything quite new, but great music it is.
Fun Day is well, fun! From the piano work, which feels jazzy, and the cool sounding intro, and drumming with Nathan's base kickin to underpin the song, its fresh, vibrant, and embodies the lyrics completely. Its what a Stevie Wonder song should be; lyric and insturmental working together to achieve emotion. Its a joy to wake up to that song
Queen in the Black has great lyrics. Just as vibrant and lively, it tells of Stevie worshipping the lady of his life a Queen in the Black. Dig the drumming and love the synth work in the background which fit perfectly.
These Three Words are a tender reminder of things that matter- family which makes sense to sing about, because they're supposed to be our rock. The electric piano is followed by guitar and the awesome synths that move us from our questioning to why we should say "I love you". His singing at the end is excellent, hitting highest registers, with the clever lyrics of "These There Words" Sound corny from anyone else, but from Stevie we can feel his love.
Each Other Throat feels like it would have worked on an album say Conversation Peace because of its socially conscious lyrics. Going for the sound of the early ninties, it filled with blaring base, keyboards and guitar.
"We are supposed to spread, love and not evil
But we've been acting more like heathens than people
Treating our fellow man, far worse than illegal
cause we keep at each others throats"
Awesome lyrics. Stevie attempt at rapping seems a bit arkward, because the lyrics doesnt balance out on each line, but the words are relevant and the singing carry them out perfectly.
If She Breaks Your Heart breaks the streak of excellent songs on the album- not that it isnt great, or Kimberley's singing isnt awesome, but it just isnt Stevie. It actually songs as if it should be written for her on her own album, which would be great. Other than that its great, wonderful exuberent, espically the insturmentals.
Gotta Have You is reminisenct of Micheal Jackson pop, and it will keep you interested for a while, its really bouncy. which would be cool if the lyrics were substanial- sure, hes gotta have you but thats all its basically saying. Above average.
Make Sure You're Sure
This is the kind of song that you romance to. Its got this candlelight dinner music playing in the background feel. Its jazzy feel reminds us that Stevie can do slow numbers like this- its probably his best slower songs. And the lyrics are just to die for, a subject approached from a vunerable couple who needs to be sure where they are. The violins are espically moving, and the singing is top notch strong.
Jungle Fever. Its got the Fun Day bounciness and strength, but the lyrics are kind of uninspired. Nevetheless, the music itself is good title foddler for the movie this album soundtrack is from. Good, but not essensital listening, despite its social inspired lyrics.
I Go Sailing has a great sound, and you gotta love that he uses the wind blowing to start off the song, which is really just genious. The lyrics while not very substanial work here; you are kind of just floating here, where the words dont even matter, thanks to Stevie lovely singing. Love the adlib at the end
Chemical Love is underrated, and at first it wont grab you like the other songs did, but its really great, with Stevie's synth voice, but the sound is just really funky. Its remininsent of "Bird of Beauty" in subject but I think the lyrics are less convulted here.
Lighting Up the Candles relies on imagery, to assume that seeing lighted up candles gives up memories we see loves past, and hoping the spark the future. Though again the lyrics are somewhat short, it has an urgency like "Please Dont Go" just not in a Ray Charles country sense. This is more R and B, espically with the way the verse is sung. Great way to end this album.
I wasn't looking at this if its an appropiate soundtrack for the movie Jungle Fever; rather is it a good Stevie Wonder album, since he wrote every song save one lyric and sung almost every song. Not all the songs are essential like Stevie's 70 albums, but throughly enjoyable from beginining to end.
FEEDING OFF THE LOVE OF THE LAND?.......2004-10-13
in 1979,stevie wonder recorded his first soundtrack album:the double album entitled-"stevie wonder's journey through the secret life of plants"of which was scorned by motown;then was trashed by the critics and even worse was the fact his fan base was not used 2 this kind of music and the movie itself was hated by the movie audience.nonetheless it hit #4 r&b-#4pop.wonder was still hot enough 2 hit the top ten on both charts.five years later in 1984,wonder recorded his second film soundtrack-"the woman in red" with dionne warwick.it featured the beautiful duets "weakness" and "it's you"-plus the hit single releases
"i just called to say i love you" and "lovelight in flight"and the funk workout of the explosive title track,"the woman in red" /the soundtrack even charted better than it's predecessor-it hit #1r&b-#4 pop.seven years later in 1991,wonder recorded
his third soundtrack album:"music from the movie:jungle fever"-a
high tech collection of beautiful ballads and funk.inspired by
movie director spike lee's film of the same name, wonder's voice
and music sounds better than ever before.stevie kicks off this
set with the beautifully ray of sunshine track-"fun day"-a song
about a day in the park with children playing, birds singing or
with that special someone.stevie vocalizes:"i'm gonna go out to
the park where you feel the joy in every heart"/the song
features his classic harmonica solo midway thru the song and
near the song's end,stevie says:"let me solo,let me solo,let me
solo...solo!"-wonder decorates the song with a pretty piano solo
piece at the song's conclusion."queen in the black"-a song dedicated 2 the black woman's regal beauty inside and out is
every true blackman's dream 2 have a beautiful blackqueen by his
side.the song is framed by wonder's exquisite modern day funk
and high caliber sound.stevie says:"excuse me please your majesty-i chance this moment nervously-to share with you a
fantasy-that i have lived inside of me"-by the song's end wonder
is placing her on a throne and her beauty is driving him out of
this world.however, the tearjerker of this set is the sad but
beautiful"these three words"-need i say more about this track?listen to it and you'll understand what i mean.next up is the
driving "each other's throat"-a tale of black people bringing
each other down of which wonder states:"we are suppose to be
sisters and brothers but all we do is constantly dog one
another"-no need 2 explain this song any further.../the very
plush, relaxed "if she breaks your heart"(or is it "my love is
gone with yesterday"?)stevie let's his love(of the time)kimberly
brewer assists with lead vocals, while wonder himself relaxes
with background vocals and electric piano, synthesizer, drums and
percussion while larry gittens assists with trumpet.the soft
voice of kimberly along with the pillow plush groove is
irresistible.the song's key lines:"well if she breaks your heart-i will send a robin to sing happy tunes for you-cause i may not
be around to do the things i used to do"-this track is tender
and relaxing with kimberly's soft delicate vocals.i repeat this
track in my cd player all the time."gotta have you" was the
album's first single and another "wonderjam"-although it did not
fare well in the pop charts, stalling at #92-it did hit the r&b
top five reaching#3.the song's heavy funk groove along with
wonder's fiery vocals combined with his background vocalists-this funk number blasts from start 2 finish.but the premier
showcase ballad of this soundtrack album is "make sure you're
sure"-another surefire wonder masterpiece.this is wonder's only
jazz piece of the 90s-mellow piano, masterful vocals and a lush
string section of players.the song is just an instant classic
alongside stevie's other vintage lovesongs-what a beautiful line
to tell a woman:"well, the wine is sweet-and the music sways-and
your lips are so divine-and you say you know-that you're falling
in love-now,let's be mature,make sure you're sure"-need i say
more about this classic?listen 4 yourself."jungle fever"is a
tale of interracial romance while "i go sailing"is the smooth 90s
version of the 1960s "california dreaming"/"chemical love" is a
moderate upbeat song about people craving 4 different types of
addictions in life.wonder pretty much sums up the song with
these lines:"some people crave chemical, physical, material love-
but we need a spiritual love"/the song "lighting up the candles"
was written about marvin gaye-a song that stevie had dedicated
2 him,but he also included it in this soundtrack.the song has
a sleek attractive melody and of course wonder's classic vocals:
"lighting up the candles-to what used to be-tender memories in
moments of love".../but the most astonishing and the most
mystifying thing about this album is what should have been the
album's closer:"feeding off the love of the land"-wonder's
heartfelt compassion of the world and man's corruption of it.
the song is basically an updated version of "visions"from the
"innervisions"album from 1973."feeding off the love of the land"
is heard at the film's conclusion as the credits were rolling
but is not included in the album soundtrack.why was the strange
decision made 2 not include it in the soundtrack album?it leaves
me scratching my head!the song is only avaliable on the flip side of "gotta have you" and the 12inch version of the hit. my ?uestion is where is "feeding off the love of the land?"
stevie wonder's jungle fever soundtrack reached#1 r&b #24 pop.
One of Stevie's Late period triumphs.......2003-07-14
What looked like another self indulgent movie soundtrack from Stevie Wonder(i.e. Secret Life Of Plants,The Woman In Red),actually turned out to be one of his best post-Musiquarium albums, and should've did better than it's chart performance dictated.
Gotta Have You recalls some of his best 70's funk, while Fun Day & Queen of The Black were very fun & care-free. These Three Words would become a grass roots classic. The most original song of the bunch is Make Sure You're Sure ,a slow jazzy piece which has Stevie backed up with a small piece combo. The performance is so natural and unpretensious, you'd almost wish he'd ditch the synthesizers that has been part of his music for the last three decades.
If Hotter Than July and In Square Circle are considered the last of Stevie best music, Jungle Fever shows you that he's still full of surprises.

So close to being excellent..........2007-04-11
Bizzy Bone's debut solo album was released in 1998. If you can flash back that far, you'll recall that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was at the height of their 90s popularity, and a Bizzy or any Bone solo project would be highly anticipated. Never again in his solo career would Bizzy have as large a budget for an album or a major record contract. So this album should have a lot of things going for it. And honestly, it does. Anyone who's ever listened to Bizzy solo or in the group knows what an incredible and unique artist he is. He has the ability to evoke unmatched emotion and feeling through his mournful laments, wondering prayer, and deeply personal stories. Listening to Bizzy Bone's music can be a very powerful experience, and I can count the number of rappers on one hand who can be as effectively moving as he. He is also capable of breeding severely disappointing music as well, and it can sometimes be frustrating trying to decipher his nonsensical verses. Bizzy has hip hop's most unique voice and flow, I think it's beautiful but others may not. "Heaven'z Movie" is a short album. There are two or three excellent songs and the rest are just pretty good. There are three songs that are only about a minute long, which is kind of disappointing, because they all have good verses and nice beats, so I don't know why they wouldn't just make a real song out of them; these are more like ideas for songs. He is at his best here on songs where he is the most personal and deep, and his worse when he raps about odd or even clichéd subjects. The production is good but not amazing, solid but not usually too imaginative, never taking the spotlight off the rapper for sure. "Heaven'z Movie" is a solid but an uneven album, one that I recommend to huge Bone fans such as myself.
After the intro "Roll Call," the album begins with one of my favorites, "Thugz Cry." Over a soulful yet understated production, Bizzy delivers deep lyrics, and this is an example of him in his finest style. His flows and vocals are on point, and he is not only great lyrically but also musically. "Marchin' on Washington" and "Yes Yes Y'all" are both under a minute long, and while they're both fine for listening purposes, they'd be so much better as actual songs. "Menesky Mobbin'" has a nice beat and Bizzy spits some nice lines on it, although it's fairly irrelevant to the whole "Heaven'z Movie" concept. "Waitin' for Warfare" is a nice cut of the war-obsessed Bizzy, who resurfaced on Bone's next group album BTNHResurrection. Bizzy doesn't appear on the next track, a solo for his protégé Mr. Majesty. It's a pretty nice cut, even though I wouldn't buy a Bizzy album to hear Mr. Majesty. Another one minute song "Brain on Drugs" precedes "On the Freeway." Bizzy's music can be cryptic and interesting, and sometimes one must be a seasoned listener to interpret it fully. This is one of those cases, and I just think this song is okay. "Demons Surround Me" is honest and heartfelt. "On Fire" is just a club track, but a pretty well done one at that. By far my favorite song is "Nobody Can Stop Me," among the finest solo works he has made to date. This shows his most effective side, deep, personal, and heartfelt, speaking of his struggles and life over a perfect beat for the song. The album ends with the disturbing "Social Studies," which speaks of age-old injustice with a crazy musical backing, ripe with wild chants and screams.
"Heaven'z Movie" is at times a compelling and beautiful album, at other times a fairly frustrating one. It's among the better of the Bone Thugs solo albums, but not quite on the level of the best like Krayzie Bone's Thug Mentality 1999 and the like. Bizzy is far from a conventional rapper, and while some may find him tough to get into, I think he's really a special artist. Die hard Bone fans like myself will find this album very interesting and well worth owning, so I certainly recommend it to them.
Lights, Camera, Action.......2007-01-08
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's standout member, Bizzy Bone, debut solo album Heaven'z Movie without any collaboration or assistance from his group stands alone to deliver a well rounded attempt. "Roll Call" is Heaven'z Movie introduction to a diverse subject, mentality and overall concept. Getting production assistance from Johnny J, who created the sound for 2 Pac, on one of three "Thugz Cry" with a mainstream gangster groove. Bizzy showcases his abilities and style while mentioning feelings towards Three 6 Mafia as this song is the highlight for the album. As "Marchin' On Washington" sounds like a political attempt, it is actually geared towards a Revolutionary War concluded as an interlude. The brief one verse "Yes Yes Y'all" leaves listeners with an ungratified feeling as this was only another interlude. "Menensky Mobbin'" is another highlight with the subject about street lifestyles in different cities complementing a mainstream swing. A conscious effort with a street wise art of social equality found on "Waitin' For Warfare" featuring H.I.T.L.A.H. Capo Confuscious with marching effects to intensify the subject. Without uttering a word, Bizzy left in all confidence with success of "Mr. Majesty II" in the hands of Mr. Majesty. The piano silohette laced interlude "Brain On Drugs" followed by the R&B instrumentation found on "On The Freeway" as he harmonizes as if it was a love song. Latching to the LP's title and overall goal, "Demons Surround Me" is a spiritual attempt where he is still able to finess the track with tones and inflections that's worth checking out. "...we don't need / nothing but the weed / and a lighter..." said on "On Fire" where this mediocre song didn't stand more than being just a filler, but the lyrical content did this song justice. "Nobody Can Stop Me" is another mainstream commercial attempt as he personalizes the track with truth and struggles of his life on the road to success. After submerging into Bizzy Bone's Heaven'z Movie, he takes us on a journey to where he aim's to be by tackling his past and present tribulations. Begining on a high note, there are multiple miscues that throw the flow of the album off into a near abyss. The highlights and B.B. Gambini's talents as an artist, a writer and co-producer of the entire album added a personal touch for any Bone fan to love.
Slightly over-rated.......2006-10-01
This is a really really good album. I gave it four stars, even though it probably doesn't deserve it. Yes, I'm a huge Bone fan and specifically Bizzy fan (I endorse the entire Bizzy catalogue), BUT this album isn't perfect by any means. C'mon, there are two skits which do nothing, two songs that clock in at less than two minutes, and a song that has a seemingly eternal outro of silence which eventually closes out with a completely unfunny skit that really damages the album as a whole. Seriously, count how many REAL songs there are on this cd. 8, just in case you didn't feel like counting for your self. 8. $15 for 8 songs, slightly ridiculous. Okay, I could also mention the fact that there's a song on here that doesn't even FEATURE Bizzy at all (Mr. Majesty 2). Well, none-the-less, Bizzy is a tremendous rapper (and so is Majesty, I just wish he had his own album) and the beats are consistently dope and original. Bizzy is EXTREMELY talented, creative, and prolific. However, I would suggest buying one of his other albums before this one (like Thug's Revenge).
Bizzy- Sh** straight thuggish ruggish.......2006-07-26
This is Bizzy's second best cd it has rapid fire style and a softer side to bizzy but you also need to cop speaking in Tounges to that album tight. Bizzy is faster than twista and all those other fake a** wanna be thuggish ruggish clones- three six mafia, do or die
<-
<- b**ches.
Gather up gas masks for biological war.......2006-02-27
I'm picky when it comes to rap, basically if you're not a member of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony or your name isn't Nas, chances are I'm not gonna be a big fan of you. Bizzy Bone has always been my favorite member of Bone Thugs simply because I like his voice, intensity, and just how fast he can rap. He adds a certain amount of respectability to anything he does, and the fact that he has some great beats doesn't hurt.
There's two things that bother me most about rap and those are:
1.) The ballad style rapping (i.e., slow beat, some singing, etc.). Bizzy is just as guilty of that as anybody else but his rapping always has intensity to it, albeit different degrees of intensity, but intensity nonetheless.
2.) Too many guest appearances. A lot of rappers rely too heavily upon guest rappers, and more times than not, those rappers are quite horrible. That's a big reason as to why I like the Bone Thugs members so much, they hardly ever have an excessive amount of guests. If they do have guest rappers they're, more times than not, other members of Bone Thugs.
Bizzy is a rapper I have no problem liking. He always puts out quality music that tends to highlight his best aspects. Take the second song, Thugz Cry. He's got the trademark singing chorus but throughout the verses he puts most rappers to shame. But then there's also the dreaded ballad style song, On The Freeway. But, dare I say it, I really like this song. It's very soothing and Bizzy does some very good rapping, though the singing does, in a way, steal the song. Then there's also the classic "Roof is on fire" spinoff. Bizzy's version is one of the catchiest and is probably the second-best song featured on here.
My favorite songs are Thugz Cry, Menensky Mobbin', Waitin' For Warfare, On The Freeway, and On Fire. Next to Nas' classic Illmatic, this is my favorite rap CD of all time. I know that statement will be the death of this review but I'm a person who doesn't venture into the rap genre very much, so if you keep that in mind it all makes sense I'm sure. There is one thing that bothers me about this CD, a lot of the songs are very short, like maybe 2 minutes in length. Yet, Bizzy can do more in those two minutes than most rappers can in 4. So go figure.

Dave Hollister is back. And he's still keeping it ghetto, even after his somewhat disappointing debut, Ghetto Hymns. On this 14-track effort he easily eludes the sophomore jinx, fulfilling more of his potential than he did on his first album. He enlisted the help of everyone from Puffy hitman Chucky Thompson to Tim, Bob, and Vidal Davis, so this record is smooth midtempo R&B that walks the line between R. Kelly and Gerald Levert. The bass- and snare-heavy "You Can't Say" and the warm ballad "We've Come Too Far" capture the soul of classic R&B, but enrich it with the razor-sharp edge of hip-hop. You could say it's neo-soul for radio worshipers. But Hollister isn't just going for the status quo: he keeps it gangster on the piano- and synth-heavy "Don't Take My Girl Away," another of his many odes to Baby Mama Drama. He also goes for that Luther Vandross-feel on the piano- and bell-embellished "Destiny." This is a movie you shouldn't miss. --Kenji Jasper

Chicago 85.......2006-09-05
I love all of Dave Hollisters' work! I miss him in the industry and pray that one day he'll return with a concert to his enduring fans. Masterpiece! Yes,a Masterpiece! Vocals are off-da-chain!
Theres more to come.......2005-07-25
I would personally like to say that Dave Hollister is my favorite r&b soul artist. I heard Chicago 85' and I have been hooked ever since. I researched and found Ghetto Hymes and loved that even more. This man puts "soul" in R&B Soul. This man is a genius. Vocally hes amoungst the best, lyrically hes amounst the elite. I heard a song that he made with Curtis Jackson and was in awe, (@#$% that &%#@!) its an amazing song. "Doin wrong" is hit and "One women man" off his album is my favorite personal song. "Take care of home" speaks to you. If u have ever had a relationship, this man preaches. He is a great all around aritst and he shows it in Chicago 85'. Bought the CD 3 times and I can't get enough of it. Im listening to it right now. I hope he can get the credit he deserves, he got radio time with "One Women Man" and they have yet to really play anything else, its a shame but hes number one to me. Chi town baby.
Dr.. Jeckyll and Mr. Hollister.......2003-09-20
I am a certified shrink and I have never seen a CD as schizophrenic as this one. I listened to it when it first came out and recently revisted it. I was wondering what it was about it that made me have reservations about fully endorsing it. After a more careful examination, it became abundantly clear. This film has a terrifically strong finish. Right now it is NFL season and the layout of this CD is such that Mr. Hollister is has 1 a 5 record or is losing a game 7 to 35 at the first half, take your pick. However you slice it, he is not winning. During the first few songs, the sour notes abound to such a degree that the artist's vocal skills could come into question. Even in attempting to use it as comic relief, the tunes are more sad than humorous. Suprisingly, he does a complete turnaround on tracks 6 and beyond. Suddenly the second half of the CD is thought provoking with real inner city soap opera story lines put forth with nicely harmoniziing back up vocals and habit forming hooks. When Dave Hollister hits his stride, he has a unique tenor voice that rivals Gerald Levert, and my favorites Kenny Lattimore and Eric Benet. Subsequent releases have proven that Hollister has longevity, but an early glimpse of him during the first half of this CD proves that a talent must be handled carefully otherwise it can all go wrong. Years ago, people use to cite artist such as Luther Vandross and Jeffrey Osborne as never making a song, let alone an album, that their fans did not like. While Dave Hollister appears to have missed his opportunity to have a record with no blemishes, he has gotten on track now and has great potential.

The original Yippie, Abbie Hoffman left little room for compromise. His combative activism eventually forced him underground and guaranteed him a place in the lexicon of alternative Sixties culture. The soundtrack features both original 1960s protest music from Phil Ochs, Edwin Starr, and Country Joe and the Fish and remakes of classic songs from an impressive list of modern musicians. The reinterpretations are strong. Steve Earle and Sheryl Crow belt out the Chambers Brothers' "Time Has Come Today" with a punk edge. Bonnie Raitt has never sounded more relaxed, underlining the somber sentiments of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" with a gentle, tremolo-ed guitar. Dylan's farewell to protest, "My Back Pages," is given a majestic reading by Joan Osborne and Jackson Browne, with a funereal organ haunting the track. Most appropriate is Ani DiFranco covering Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" with her usual dose of idiosyncrasy. --Rob O'Connor

Steal Track #1?.......2007-07-07
This is generally just an OK soundtrack - except for the 1st song "Time Has Come Today" by Sheryl Crow and Steve Earle which is just.. phenomenal. IMHO, it is one of the great covers of all time and alone is worth the cost of the CD.
One of those rare soundtracks..........2004-09-27
This is one of those rare soundtracks that actually has vision, direction and cohesiveness. It consists mostly of updated versions of classic songs. Steve Earle & Sheryl Crow team up for the Chambers Brothers classic "Time". Other interesting team-ups are Joan Osborne & Jackson Browne covering Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" and Eric Clapton, Billy Preston & Ringo Starr doing John Lennon's "Power to the People". Bonnie Raitt does a beautiful cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue". Ani DiFranco covers two songs, Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" and Phil Och's "When I'm Gone". Timothy B. Schmidt rocks with CS&N's "Carry On". And last but not least, Mary Chapin Carpenter does a very bluesy and sexy version of Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" that would have been a great single at AAA formats. There are also a few originals - Phil Och's: I Ain't Marching Anymore, Country Joe and the Fish: Superbird & Fell Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag, and Edwin Starr: War.
Quality Covers.......2003-01-04
This is a soundtrack which updates some classic songs and brings back a few golden oldies. For me, the greatest hit is the absolute blow your socks off version of "Power to the People" which Eric Burdon and Billy Preston nail. Besides being an unlikely pairing, the two give what was a second-tier John Lennon song red carpet treatment that rivals the master musician's with Burdon's empassioned vocals and Preston's pounding keyboards! Equally as magical is Bonnie Raitt's cool bluesy reading of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." "The highway is for gamblers ... take what you have gathered from coincidence," she croons magically. I have this tune recorded by Joan Baez, the Byrds, Judy Collins, Richie Havens, Barry McGuire, the Animals and of course, the songwriter. Raitt shines! The other Dylan pairing with Jackson Browne and Joan Osborne's version of "My Back Pages" is weighted only by Steve Earle's somber organ throughout the piece. Mary Chapin Carpenter's wacky version of Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" is also making me hit for the repeat button with her little warble, "I'm just mad about 14; she's just mad about me." Steve Earle and Sheryl Crow do a great job of "Time Has Come Today"; and it's interesting to hear the female vocal on the song. The Phil Ochs track and Country Joe's "Fixing" track are thematically essential for the film and sound great. All in all, this is a soundtrack that has great focus and unity. U snooze U lose! Enjoy!
Abbies Best.......2000-10-11

Soundtrack for Multiple Generations.......2000-08-07
This CD works for more than those of us who were teenagers when this music was first released. The Steve Earle/Sheryl Crow collaboration (Time Has Come Today) is a more contemplative treatment of this song. Bonnie Raitt shines (It's All Over Now, Baby Blue) with a bluesy, heartfelt rendering of this Dylan classic. Phil Ochs, Edwin Starr, and Country Joe & The Fish are here for authenticity, to balance the "newness" of Ani DiFranco, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Joan Osborne. I applaud the artist selection as more daring than would have been expected.
See the soundtrack for "1969" for a collection of original songs and associated artists from this era.

I Think it's Great!.......2006-02-11
Sure, its not the originals, you should have seen that when you saw the price. These days, they don't release albums with original artists for so low a price, now, don't get me wrong, it HAS happened, but VERY RARELY. But, with me, I always visit a website, such as fye or walmart and CHECK the songs first to see if I enjoy the various artists' version of the song, and if I like it, I buy it! Try my method. I think it will help you sometimes.
Not the original artists.......2002-12-26
Thought I scored. All these great songs on one CD! However, it is not the original artists singing these songs. What a let down. I wish I read the review before purchasing. I hope you do. But at least it wasn't too pricey.
its ok.......2000-12-26
This cd does not have the orginal artist and thus the quality is poor but this does have the great love songs and is a good bargin at 5 dollars so if you need to listen to love songs at a great price purchase this cd

Customer Reviews:
Skip this CD.......2007-02-13
This CD seems to have gone out of its way to trnsfer the worst VHS tapes to CD Audio and package it as classic film scores. The short excerpts are very bad and fade out just as the tempo begins to build. If you love film noir, skip this CD. If you are interested in film noir, skip this CD.
Great soundtracks "from the original films!".......2006-08-06
I feel compelled to respond to some of the negative criticism below. This is not a collection of restored and re-recorded scores by a modern orchestra. These are the original soundtracks from the films themselves. Given that they are in mono and suffer from age, they cannot possibly be judged by the same criteria as a modern recording. BUT, as a collection of noir soundtracks, they are superb. It's a huge list of title tracks from great films noir. And, as many of these are unavailable as restored and re-recorded scores, it is a wonderful disc to have in your collection. If the only scores you like are high-fidelity, however, then this is definitely not for you. But this disc also can't be judged by those sonic standards. For those of you who desire to listen to some of this more obscure film music--just as it would sound playing the video on your TV--then this is a great disc to have.
Good for fans.......2006-01-18
Given that there are very few Film Noir compilation soundtrack cd's available, I'd say this one works just fine for what it is. It's certainly not the most polished work, but it does have a lot of film scores and no fan should be without it. I'm glad I bought it.
It's at today missing for me........2006-01-15
I am waiting this CD in my home. At today it's missing. Take note of this, please.
Not For Audiophiles, But Wonderful for the Rest of Us!.......2006-01-13
I thought that this disc was quite possibly the best attempt so far at cataloging some of the best themes of the film-noir genre. It leaves out the dialogue snippets that break up the feel and mood of the music, and some of the selections are, quite simply, marvelous. Also, the compilers here were brave enough to include some of the rarer and seldom-mentioned noirs for inclusion here. If you're an audiophile, you must realize that these recordings are SIXTY YEARS OLD, for goodness sakes. I'll never understand why some people put so much stake in stereo sound and crystal clear remastering. I happen to feel that the gritty mono (which really isn't nearly as bad as has been suggested) heightens the hardbitten feel of these works. So, if you're someone who enjoys authentic film music, give this a shot! If you're expecting something butchered, repackaged, and changed around for modern tastes, don't bother with this collection!

Love Scene is culled mostly from baby-boomer box-office hits (Phenomenon, The Commitments, The Big Chill). Not surprisingly, the disc consists of boomer-friendly music, with the predictable mishmash of styles and eras that gratifies a boomer's need for old-timey nostalgia as well as VH1-style "adult contemporary" music. It's certainly not a bad collection, just a weird one: Jimmy Durante ("Make Someone Happy" from Sleepless in Seattle) is the old-timey choice, while Lori Carson (the delicate "You Won't Fall" from Stealing Beauty) provides a wonderfully sappy '90s middle-of-the-road number. For classic pop fare, you've got Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge, the Commitments' cover of Otis Redding, and, most sublimely, that perfect, faux-Brian Wilson song from Grace of My Heart, "God Give Me Strength," cowritten by Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach. A good gift for movie fans with a musical streak and weak knees. --Mike McGonigal
Customer Reviews:
Great Compilation with a rare never before released track.......2000-08-07
I first found this CD last week while looking for something else. I am so glad I stumbled upon this gem. I am a big fan of the movie "Grace of My Heart" and have been wondering how I could get the Kristen Vigard version of the song "God Give Me Strength". If you've been looking too, look no more. This cd not only has that original, never before released track but also some great movie themes. Aaron Neville's version of "Crazy Love" is fantastic and brings back memories from "Phenomenon" which was the intent of the cd compiliers. Each song was picked for the signifigance it had to the movie it was in. I found songs here that I hadn't heard in a long time and the blend of music and styles is fantastic. I put it in my car stereo on the way home and haven't taken it out since. If you want a cd that would be perfect for a fire and a glass of wine- this is the cd for you.
There is also a mini-booklet inside the case that gives a cool background as to why each song was chosen and the how the song came about in the movie (cool info!). This cd is a real bargain for the price!!!
