Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars progresive breakbeat, a stirring combination.......2001-01-22

DJ Hype's not quite accurate with his titles, as this is sequel into deep progressive breaks mainly culls work from 1999; not that anyone's complaining, but this sound fusion of breakbeat, heavy basslines and trance - though intoxicating - is apparently running out of steam, or at least quantity of releases.

There's Way Out West, who perhaps started the furor in the first place, and BT with his two excellent and hard to find hits from last year, including the spectacular "Fibonacci Sequence" which led off Sasha's Global underground Ibiza (in a slightly altered form). Hybrid, the current carriers of the torch, drop three quality pieces that don't veer far from their formula.

If you like any of the artists on this set you'll undoubtedly like them all; DJ Hype has picked pieces that work well together and deliver a delicious consistency throughout. But the lack of breakout tracks by new artists makes you wonder how far this revolutionary sound will continue. Grade: B+

4 out of 5 stars Hyper does it again..........2000-09-16

"Soundtrack to the Future" is undoubtedly a compilation with outstanding qualities attached to it. First off, Hyper made an awesome choice selecting Way out West to begin the list of tracks and remixes as he did is "Deep Progressive Breaks". From "Twin Town" to "Fibonacci Sequence" to Hybrid's "Snyper (High Velocity Edit)" there is an ongoing beat that cannot separate the hearer from their stereo. I am no DJ, but I am certainly a music lover. In all, the new release from Distinctive Records is an album that can appeal to lovers of every genre and sub-genre of music...

5 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first, but brilliant nonetheless.......2000-12-02

Although this followup to the first Y3K album pales in comparison to its predecessor, it's still one of the best albums on the market - it contains a few rare and previously unavailable tracks - such as Way Out West's first original work in years, and Hybrid's remix of 2 Bad Mice's classic 'Bombscare'. In short, it's the best album I've bought since the first Y3K album!
