Bagpipes, a song written as the soundtrack to a Michel Gondry music video, Patti Page's musical shadow, and Jack and Meg co-narrating a scavenger's rummages: It must be time for Icky Thump, the many-flavored riposte to 2006's Get Behind Me Satan. The duo starts big with the title track--Jack's fast-tumbling, falsetto-tinged lyrics jagging on hyper keyboard-sounding segues and Meg's pounding drums. They rarely shy from an idea, invoking acoustic Bob Dylan to frame "300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues," but interjecting a series of distortion-laden guitar paroxysms for good measure. The new Icky Thump album by the White Stripes delivers the hard driving music and lyrical verse we now expect from Jack. The two person band delivers a tower of sound and driving rhythm throughout the CD. My favorite is the biting "You don't know what love is" which is a Dylanesque rocker with the bite of positively fourth street. The percussion is great and the variety of music created by this duo continues to amaze. Stripers will not be disappointed!

The White Stripes have never made a bad disc, but I don't find anything hugely groundbreaking here. After Jack White's diversions with The Raconteurs and Loretta Lynn, I thought the Stripes might start taking some more chances, and there are a few here such as the bagpipes and the "ancient" synthesizer. Any other band and I would have given this CD 5 stars, but knowing how much the White Stripes are capable of vs. what appear here and four is the most I can give.

After Get Behind me Satan (which I found to be a slightly disappointing follow-up to Elephant) I was worried that The White Stripes wouldn't be able to redeem themselves. They said the album was written in just around two weeks and Jack White had also been busy with The Raconteurs. The album, however doesn't disappoint. It is fully enjoyable from start to finish with Little Cream Soda through the last track being a medley of some of their best songs ever. It is personally my second favorite White Stripes Album.

i have all the white stripes' albums since their debut "the white stripes". i'm 20. the white stripes were kinda the band that made me realize "what rock music is", so i have been holding them in high regard for a long time.

but somehow, icky thump is the first album of theirs which hasn't made me very happy.

these are all IMO only.

i. it's missing the rawness of the first album, "the white stripes". 'jimmy the exploder' and 'when i hear my name', those songs made me stop whatever i was doing, and go "WHOA".

ii. de stijl is original [and the cover of 'death letter', makes the whole cd cool].

iii. i like white blood cells. it's pretty. the brink before the phenomenal fourth album, 'elephant' [from WBC, 'dead leaves & the dirty ground', 'hotel yorba', 'fell in love with a girl' - such lovely, simple, classics].

iv. 'elephant' is a good introduction cd to the white stripes. i believe though, that icky thump doesn't quite measure up to elephant's polish.

v. 'get behind me satan' was more of a creative venture, and while it wasn't my personal fav, i appreciated the experimenting that went on. maybe this is a bit like what nirvana did with 'in utero', though i think that was a much fiercer, aggressive rebuttal to commercial success.

vi. and so, 'icky thump'. white stripes songs that are more than 3 minutes long. i think songs with a time limit worked in their favor. guitar riffs that don't really pack the same punch as the orgasmic solo in 'ball & biscuit'.

the album seems to lack the pure all-out rock magic which i've liked in the white stripes for a long time. that lack of a "formula"...that lack of cares for "safe" music. though if this is the direction they'll be taking, it saddens me quite a bit that they 'might not (really) know what to do', now that they've found themselves 'in a bigger room'...

First, if all you've heard of rock up to this point is stuff like the White Stripes, Coldplay, Radiohead and other contemporary bands than this album will probably sound fresh and cool and it would be pointless to read my review. But, if you expect a little bit more from your rock and roll than the same old sh#@ this review is a buyer beware....


Tiresome is a word I never thought I would put to a White Stripes album, but I find it the most natural word to express my impression of Icky Thump. I was surprised how many rock cliches I heard on his side project with The Raconteurs and thought perhaps because it was a band effort that once he got back into the saddle with as The White Stripes all that bombastic artiness would return, but no!

Icky Thump has really poor melodies and the lyrics are some of the worst this side of Paul McCartney ala Wing's Wildlife.

The best moments of the album which there are very few come in songs like A Martyr For My Love For You and the catchy Icky Thump. But overall this is just a big disappointment from a man that is capable of much more.

Get Behind Me Satan was a pretty good album but it marked a departure from the other White Stripes albums because it sounded like Jack White was expanding his sound, after the awful Raconteurs album and this Icky Thump it sounds more like it was an failed attempt to escape his own success.

Inside the buzzing hive of Smashing Pumpkins' guitars is clearly where bandleader Billy Corgan feels most comfortable. So, after a seven-year hiatus for the short-lived group Zwan and his surprisingly sunny 2005 solo album, Corgan has revived the Pumpkins in all the six-string-spattered shades of emotional gray that made them one of the greatest bands of the alt-rock era. Longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, along with famed boardsmiths Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date as well as Corgan himself coproduced. Chamberlin also supports mountainous layers of guitar with his fiercest playing. California musicians Ginger Reyes (bass) and Jeff Schroeder (guitar) complete a version of the band dedicated to early bare-knuckled form, with a few exceptions: Corgan's grown into a more powerful wordsmith and his lengthy guitar solo explorations of yore are replaced with a trim, barbed textural approach that's ultimately more vicious. That is, until the centerpiece "United States" stretches into an epic punk-metal-informed sibling of Jimi Hendrix's "Machine Gun," with Corgan's strings singing like explosions and twisting metal as he warbles about revolution. Much of this album conjures literal and sonic visions of apocalypse, but there's grace, too, in the blithe grind of the hopeful "That's the Way (My Love Is)" and the melodic "Neverlost." Their third start as a band (second without their bassist and this time with Chamberlin and Corgan only), the Smashing Pumpkings are half of what Siamese Dream used to be: innovative. This time like Siamese, Billy plays all the instruments with the exception of Jimmy on Drums. The most radio friendly songs include Tarantula, (Come On) Let's Go!, and Bring the Light. Here you will find songs in contrast to The Future Embrace and a mixture of Zwan's Mary Star of the Sea and Machina. The lyrics are political like "the're bound to kill us" from Doomsday Clock and "revolution!" from the song United States. The multiple-page book shows images of Paris Hilton (Starz), the U.S. podium, death, and children. The booklet also includes the lyrics to all songs and images of the two remaining Pumpkins. All photos were taken by Billy Corgan using multiple images to show what politicians are doing to America or in some cases facism. The music is lyrical and fueled by guitars and drums. One of the songs, Bleeding the Orchid, shows a sensitive side to what Corgan is trying to achieve with this reunion.

The first clue to the sound of Avril Lavigne's third CD, The Best Damn Thing, comes in the form of her kickoff single, "Girlfriend," which is filled with singing, clapping, and cheerleader-style chanting. The song is quite a sonic contrast to her previous disc, Under My Skin, which was considered to be Lavigne's more mature follow-up to her 16 million-selling debut CD, Let Go. Like that debut, The Best Damn Thing will be largely and deeply embraced by teenage girls, and is packed with songs that will create enthusiastic sing-alongs in concert. There are a handful of numbers that will appeal to a wider audience; "Innocence" and disc closer "Keep Holding On" would both fit perfectly in a Gray's Anatomy episode, while the sultry message and solid harmonies in "Hot" will appease ears of many ages. Lavigne's husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryk Whibley makes an appearance as producer and instrumentalist on a handful of tracks; their union, however, seems to have bred more than love. "I Don't Have to Try" and "Everything Back But You" both have a frenetic pace and chorus that is so eerily Sum-like that if they weren't married, a copyright lawsuit might ensue. That aside, the record oscillates between lyrically acerbic fare ("One of Those Girls," "I Can Do Better") and fluffy sugar-pop melodies ("Contagious," "The Best Damn Thing") delivering far more spunk rock than punk rock. --Denise Sheppard

"Yikes" is the first word that comes to mind when I try to describe this album. It's not an entirely bad thing to say, but it's certainly not good. To be honest, I must've been living in a hole because I didn't realize Avril had a new album out until a few weeks ago when I saw The Best Damn Thing used in a local cd store. I bought it based on her previous two releases, Let Go and Under My Skin, both of which I enjoyed. Imagine my distaste when I heard "Girlfriend" upon putting the cd into my stereo. I had heard parts of that song before. The parts where I couldn't get to the radio fast enough to change the station, that is. I didn't realize until that moment that it was Avril Lavigne. I forced myself to listen to the entire song, which reminded me so much of the horror that has become Gwen Stefani. The Best Damn Thing certainly seems like a huge step backwards for Avril. Let Go was a decent debut album. Under My Skin was a worthy follow up that showed that she was maturing as a songwriter and artist. I was relieved to discover that Avril decided to purposely create a frivolous album that was meant to be fun. So let her have her fun. I just hope that the next album puts her back on her previous track. There are a few good tracks on the album. "Keep Holding On" is one song that do enjoy. But in the meantime, I can't see myself listening to 3/4ths of this album without wincing.

What an awesome CD! Avril at her best. I like everysong, except when your gone. but I don't get it. People keep trashing this CD. Ok this is kinda like a Christina Aguilera thing. Christina got married, and made a double album of happy songs, shes happy now. and thats my first thought with Avril, she got married, she is happy now,a nd her and her husband worked together on this album. So it's more poppy and fun than her last 2 albums. It's like if Madonna made everyone of her albums with the same sound. it would get boring. thats why artist try new things, and Avril made a great album, still punk rockish and a bit poppy. I like it. now the standard version is clean, but the deluxe version with the dvd is not, but the first 2 tracks are the only ones with language. over all a fun and great album. a new side of avril. enjoy it!

From alternative to bubble gum in one move. I'm so glad I listened to this before I bought it, and recommend you do the same. She is a great artist, but this CD is awful. If you are very young, you may get a kick out of it. If you are a grown-up, buy her other ones instead.

I bought this CD for "Girlfriend" and ended up loving the whole thing. I especially enjoy "When your gone." My boyfriend is in Iraq being brave and fighting in the war for his third time and this is the hardest one. This song comforts me and I am so happy that I bought the cd and found this song. 5 starts definatly. Go AVRIL!

5 out of 5 stars "New Maps of Hell" - Bad Religion.......2007-07-13

"New Maps of Hell" proved to be a very unexpected turn for Bad Religion. If you listen to "Process of Belief" and then "The Empire Strikes First" you will notice that Bad Religion seemed to be going in the direction of straight melodic rock with only a seasoning of punk influence. This album, on the other hand, sounds like a straight punk album with only a few songs ("Honest Goodbye" and "Lost Pilgrim" to name two) falling into the category in which Bad Religion was starting to wedge itself.
That being said, this album is an astonishing achievement from an already well established and respected punk rock band. I haven't heard this type of energy from this band since the album "Generator" and I have to say that the mix of old and new is quite refreshing.

WOW! I bought this album the day it came out, and I was so surprised by the content. Starting with 52 Seconds, the buzz saw/distortion sound is in full effect! This new record is a step forward, and also back to the more uptempo sound BR used to have on all of it's songs. From Suffer until Stranger Than Fiction, most of their records were all fast and loud and we loved it that way. Then came The Gray Race, which was good, but started a trend towards more melodic songwriting. The Empire Strikes First was a step back in time, and a step in the right direction for the fans. Now we have New Maps of Hell, and you can TOTALLY tell that there are 3 guitarists all trying to outdo each other on this record. The term "wall of sound" is used well here. This record will definately please the long time BR fan, as well as create new ones around the world.

While not quite as inspired or adventurous as their last two albums The Process of Belief and The Empire Strikes First, New Maps of Hell is yet another worthy addition to the Bad Religion catalog. The sound is classic Bad Religion and is even reminiscient of some of their earlier harder edged albums like Against The Grain. Bad Religion fans will not be disappointed with this album. Songs like New Dark Ages and Honest Goodbye fit right in with the best that Bad Religion has ever released. The only complaint that I have is with the mix. It must be on purpose, but it just seems like this album was mixed much more dirty than any of their other recent releases. The vocals tend to get lost a bit. It's mostly a minor complaint. The album is still very good by any standards. It is great to see that after 27 years and 14 full length albums that Bad Religion still has something to say.

I'm a huge, huge BR fan. I've now heard this album at least 10 times with headphones.

Musically, I have nothing bad to say. It [expletive] ROCKS. Great, great, GREAT music. But lyrically? There's plenty of catchy and clever little phrases, but none of the song lyrics really hold together well. I struggle to see the meaning, the point to most of them.

Greg Graffin is a preeminent poet/lyricist. But he sure doesn't show it on this release. Like I said, there's plenty of lines or pairs of lines that sound great, but none of the songs really seem to clearly make a point like so many older Bad Religion songs do.

Musically, it's 5 stars. Lyrically it's only 3 (hence my 4-star rating), because it pales in comparison with the lyrics on albums like Generator, No Substance, and even later work like Process of Belief. Still, it's not nearly as bad as the New America! Greg, I *know* you can write better stuff than this. I was just listening (again) to No Substance the other day and continue to be seriously impressed with the lyrics and everything else about that album. I can only hope that someday they reach that height again with both the music AND the lyrics.

Disappointed, but not enough to give up on them. This album is the worst (musically) compared to the previous ones. Of course it's a matter of taste but the songs are mediocre and the overall sound quality is BAD. The instruments are much louder than the voice track, specially in the first song (maybe it was on purpose).
One of the things I love from BR is the way they mix angry punk with melody, even in hardcore albums like TESF, but this one has none of that. If you only like fast noisy punk, 'New Maps Of Hell' is for you. I just don't think this album was worth 3 years waiting. If I have to choose one song, I'll go for 'Lost Pilgrim'.
Even though the bad review I still think Bad Religion is the best punk-rock band ever.

After the success of From Under the Cork Tree, Fall Out Boy earned the right to indulge their whims. Fortunately, their instincts tend to serve them well (not counting those infamous cell-phone photos). On their most adventurous album, Def Jam prez Jay-Z introduces "Thriller," while Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds produces groove-heavy hit "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs." A few new flourishes aside, however, like guitarist Joe Trohman's Metallica moves on "Thriller," the Chicago-bred band remains true to their punk-pop roots, even if vocalist Patrick Stump sounds like Mr. Sexyback on "This Ain't a Scene" and "I'm like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me + You)." You can thank bass player/songwriter Pete Wentz for the unwieldy song titles. As he explains in "Fame < Infamy," "I am God's gift / Why would he bless me with such wit without a conscience." Whether spicing up their recipe with R&B swagger or playing it straight, FOB are at their best when they crank up the volume. The follow-up to Fall Out Boy's breakout "From Under the Cork Tree" finds them infused with a new-found confidence and an arena rock cockiness. Fortunately for them, they manage to aim for the Stadium Nose-Bleed seats and succeed. From the opening braggadocio of their label Prez Jay-Z to the funky beats that undercoat "I'm Like A Lawyer..." (produced by none other than Babyface Edmonds) to quoting Leonard Cohen in "Hum Hallelujah," Pete Wentz shows he and his mates have no intention of playing it passive.

They also come up with hooks a-plenty. The slapping drum and bass that kicks "The Take Over The Breaks Over" is irresistible. The hit "This Ain't A Scene It's An Arms Race" will have you football cheering and stamping your feet in no time flat. There are so many memorable moments on this CD that pointing them out is beyond the point...they just craft themselves elegantly into each song. The Choir in "You're Breaking But You're No Wave" is probably my personal favorite.

Be that as it may, there are times when the band teeters close to smart-aleky. Especially the unwieldy song titles and frequent self-referencing. There is a touch of the clever-clever here that makes me wonder if the band can transcend "being poster boys for the scene" (as they sing in "Thriller") in the way My Chemical Romance did on "The Black Parade." But for the 14 catchy rocking tunes on "Infinity On High," Fall Out Boy show that they are hungry for more.

Besides, any band that can work both The Simpsons and Vincent VanGogh into their overall view is OK by me.

What can I say? I love this album to death! I've been a FOB fan since early 2005. Now that's not reeeeally a long time, since that's when they kinda started to get noticed. I wish I was there from the start, but personally, if you didn't live in the Greater Chicago area, I think maybe that would have been a bit hard. (Hey. I might be TOTALLY wrong).
Anyway. Great hooks, Great melodies, Great lyrics (which don't really have a "plot" or "story" to 'em, but hey who cares!). One million out of ten. And will ALWAYS be in my top 3 albums ever.

Fall Out Boy are an alternative punk rock group, if ever they could be classified, and their latest CD "Infinity on high" has already topped the Billboard album charts. The album comprises 14 songs with ambitious titles, averaging 3 minutes each.

Opening with an introduction from Jay Z (yes) as well as on outro, opening cut "Thriller" is an energetic number with machine gun-like guitars.

"The take over, the break's over" is a catchy upbeat song, while lead off single (and US & UK #2 hit) "This aint a scene, it's an arms race" - one of those rare FOB cuts to feature the song title in the song - shifts tempo from plodding to frenetic. It is produced by Babyface, as is "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" (great jangly guitars).

Other standouts are the hand clap filled "Don't you know who I think I am", the more downtempo "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)", "The (after) life of the party", "The carpal tunnel of love", the sing-a-long "Bang the doldrums" (which is remniscent in parts of The Smiths), and wickedly catchy "Fame infamy" which seems to race at the speed of light.

"You're Crashing, But You're No Wave" is a Killers/Franz Ferdinand-like rocker with lyrics telling the story of a court case. Brilliant!!

Lead singer Patrick Stump, has an earthy, soulful voice, sometimes remniscent of Terence Trent D'arby.

Like the voice says at the end of the disc, "Now, press repeat!"

I wish there were half stars, but this is closer to 4 than to 3 for me.

I'm older than the average demographic for this band, if I went to their concert I'd have to wear a "Delilah's Mom" t-shirt :) but Hey There Delilah has been playing on my radio station and the song just sticks in my head.

It is the song that every girl wishes someone would right for her. Unusual these days to hear something sweet about commitment, it's a beautiful sound with a beautiful message.

I bought the EP along with the All That We Need album. It's all young catchy pop (but not bubble-gum pop) stuff, airplay sort of stuff. It is not an acoustic band. Very enjoyable for a 46 yo mom and my 19 yo son doesn't mind me playing it in the car. He just doesn't appreciate me singing along...

BTW, I like it that the rest of the band is in the Delilah video. That shows class.

"Listen to my voice, it's my disguise . . ." My niece said: "I found out who did that song. The new Delilah song." I had completely forgotten but she said there was a song about Delilah. I named one of my dogs Delilah. She was a stray that some family found, and put a flyer up at the dog park. The kids called her Lilah, but I changed it to Delilah . . . and it fit her to a "T."

In the bible Delilah is the downfall of Sampson, a strong Hebrew warrior. She keeps trying to get the secret of his strength, but when he tells her, she has Sampson's enemies do it. He tells her, if I am tied up with green saplings, then I will be powerless. He wakes up tied with green saplings, bursts the bonds, and slaughters the enemy. Whatever he tells Delilah, they try. You'd think he'd catch on, but no. He, like an idiot, tells her his real secret. His strength will never wane, as long as he never cuts his hair. Next thing you know, he's as bald as Britney Spears.

Anyway, my dog Delilah is a pretty red dog, an Australian Cattle Dog, or maybe a Kelpie. Maybe part Dingo. She is pretty, but can be contrary. She might not want to come in at night, and if you leave the gate open, and she gets out, good luck trying to get her to come back.

Anyway, my niece Kelsey told me about this band so I checked them out. I like the song, "Hey There Delilah" and it is also the name of their album. There are two versions, and the last one seems to be a sing along, like their fans heard it and everyone who came to their show knew the words. I like it that they inspire such loyalty.

Their music sounds like rough rock, but with a focus on songwriting. Maybe they would fall in the category of Emo. I played it for my dog, Delilah, and was wondering if she would respond to her name being sung. She had no reaction. She gave it two paws down. But what does she know about music anyway? I like it.

I recently saw this group at Warped Tour and really liked them. I had their CD before this, but never really listened to it. At Warped Tour, they had a tent and they all signed a tee shirt I bought, and then took a picture with me and my sister. The entire way home from the concert, I listened to both of their CD's, and really liked them.

By far, the greatest Rock and Roll band of all time. Technically, you shouldn't buy this greatest hits CD as you will be missing out on too many great songs. What you should do is go and buy all 6 studio CDs with Morrison on vocals, then buy the Russian Import of the 2 Doors CDs post Morrison as they are excellent as well.

This is an awesome Doors compilation, must have for any fan. The Doors music was unique: funky synethiser sound, maybe the first major band to make heavy use of it; they used it well. The Doors' lyrics are weird and fantastic, but in a cool way, not at all stupid. All the hits are on this 2-disc collection. Definitely a good value. You'll see why the Doors are a lasting piece of 60s culture.

I have to say The Doors "Greatest Hits" album is the best one yet! No fan can live without this amazing collection of songs. You have to buy this, its so amazing, just trust me. I love this album with a passion and I'm sure you'll be just as attached to it as I am. You won't regret it, and its even great as a gift!

This album is wonderful. With a great price and mind blowing songs how can you pass this up? The music all fits together, almost magically, and this creates a world of escape in this age of rushing around and hurrying. The lyrics are pure genius. The songwriting is genius as well. The only bad thing about this band is the tragic end they had to face and the music they never got to make. Before buying this I was only familiar with the songs one would generally hear on the radio. I saw this and had to buy it. The songs that aren't regulars on the radio are just as good, if not better, than the ones that many know and love. Any fan of any branch of rock music will always go back to bands like The Doors because they helped pave the way into the rock music that is here today. This band will go down in the history of music just like your Bach, Mozart, etc. This is totally worth it, so buy it now!!!

Plain White T's delivers a solid cd of emo & pop-punk tracks. My favorites include "It's Our Time", "Making a Memory", and "Hey There Delilah". The best aspect of this cd, to me, is the perfect "warm-weather drive"-ness. It is an excellent cd for rolling all the windows down and singing along with when you are driving about. Every track has a great sing-along aspect. It has catchy, upbeat songs, and a few slower acoustics. It's a very enjoyable cd, but nothing groundbreaking or remarkable that sets it apart. For the current price ($9.99), there is no harm in picking it up and keeping it in the cd case for those summer days!

Okay, so I bought this album based on "Hey There Delilah". I know, I know. What can I say? It's a simple, fun little ditty. When I saw it was a "bonus track", I briefly considered the possibility that this is the little lyrical accoustic after-thought to an album full of bland power chords and blander lyrics. Then I said, "No, this'll be good."

Nope. As I desperately sought for another song with some hint of originality or depth (track 12 coming the closest), my girlfriend aptly said, "They sound like a high school band."

Fifteen regrettable dollars lighter, I pause to pontificate on what it is people hear in this kind of bland music. Perhaps it is just the MTV teen girls with their parents' disposable income who think they're cute and really don't care what they're listening to, so long as it's cool. This album is so derivative and bland - both musically and lyrically. Is there some rule that rock artists who break into major formats can't incorporate interesting instruments (violins, digeridoos, flutes, etc...) or drift from repetitive power chords? Are these artists forbidden by market demands to write anything but navel-gazing songs about their own seemingly uninteresting lives? Why can't they look at the world beyond and comment on something that actually matters - war, the environment, greed, whatever? Green Day finally did it and that seemed to work out pretty well for them - grammy wins, record sales, and peer respect.

I don't know - I look at exciting newer artists who are bending the rules of instrumentation, lyrical exploration, and styles like Bright Eyes and Xavier Rudd, and they don't have a tenth of the exposure this band now has. Then, on the other side of the coin, I consider older artists that have maintained a musical and lyrical creativity for decades like Springsteen, Van Morrison, and (though a few decades lighter) Ben Harper. How does music this bland break into the big time when there's so much better work out there struggling to exist? Even outside the music realm, there's an incredible number of really intelligent, creative thinkers pushing the boundaries of human thought, and still this is the drivel that rises to the top. There's either something deeply wrong with the music industry or extremely unspiring embedded in the public to which they cater.

This cd is completely average. I'd call it bland, but that seems a bit harsh. They aren't doing anything original with this album. I feel like I've heard all these songs before with other bands/music, and they're relying on too many power chords. It's likable for a few plays, but it's also easily forgettable. It's the complete middle of the road - not exactly bad but not really great either.
And to the guy who said he didn't like it but his girlfriend did... I'm a girl, and I don't find anything special here.

As said before, this band sounds like another emo band. I liked emo when it was more underground, but for the past years I got to say it has turned out very bad, with every other band trying to copy each other. Plain White T's is an example of that. Though some songs sound great, some other songs just sound boring and not exciting. This album sometimes sound as if the inspiration to make this album was Fall Out Boy, and the Academy is... I am not a big fan of those two bands, and I guess that is why I disliked most of the songs. Also, BEWARE of the powerchords on this album, there are to much in here that just do not make the CD enjoyable to listen too, almost 90% of the songs consists of this.
I rated this cd 4 stars though, cause the chick I go out with likes this album or else I would rate it a 2 [Lucky PWT]. So I am assuming chicks probably like this music, and if you want to get an emo chick [hopefully thats not overweight] then this is the cd you should get. But for a guy's taste, this cd is just weird to be listening while you are hanging out with your friends.

Plain White T's are another one of those punk-pop bands whose first few albums went unnoticed, but then their recent material got picked up by MTV, thus giving them some exposure. I say "some" because few people seem to own Every Second Counts, but I decided to check it out anyway.

I really didn't think I would like this album all that much because the only song I ever heard from them was the aptly titled "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)". But there are much better songs than that, particularly the first two tracks: "Our Time Now" and "Come Back to Me". And while the acoustic "Write You a Song" is passable, an even better choice would be "Hey There Delilah", a revamped track from the EP of the same name.

But then there's the dud track "Friends Don't Let Friends Dial Drunk", as well as a couple of lyrically challenged songs: "You and Me" and "Figure It Out" (which is indeed hard to figure out: "I'll figure it out as soon as I figure it out"?). Basically, while Every Second Counts isn't a waste of time, the guys should do something to make themselves stand out more because right now they'll probably be considered as one of those "other" emo bands.

I'm soooo tired of hearing the Tees squeek out their one hit wonder "Delilah". This song should be used as a torture device to get criminals to spill their guts. Hearing this over and over and over would invite madness. This is my most hated song of all time, surpassing "I Shot The Sheriff", "Betty Davis Eyes", and "Loving You". Dull, sappy, weak, thin, garbage.

A mix of power pop/alternative/and indie songs, Plain White T's put a lot of passion in their music. The songs are very good and well written even if they are slightly repetitive. Many of their lyrics are sweet love songs or songs about relationships gone wrong that would appeal to many who listen to emo music. However I would not classify them as emo for their music is generally upbeat. If you like to listen to just a few songs off a CD Plain White T's, All That We Needed, is a good buy. You will find that you fall in love with ½ the songs and the find others are good also. Listening to a CD as background noise you will love the sound and the lead singer, Tom Higgenson, has a great voice. The song "Hey There Delilah" sinks into your soul and make you want to melt in your shoes. It is soft and sweet love song it starts off with;
"Hey there Delilah,What's it like in New York City?, I'm a thousand miles away, But girl tonight you look so pretty,Yes you do,Time Square can't shine as bright as you,I swear it's true"
If this is the only song you've heard off that album I will warn you that it is the only real acoustic song on the album. The other songs are good in a different, more 'get up and jump around,' kind of way. The music is passionate and have very good beat that cause you to want to put it in your CD player on repeat. I would 99% recommend this album but try not to over play it as soon as you get it!

This CD get 2 stars for the last song and 0 stars for the rest. I bought this CD spefically for the last song, "Hey There Delilah." I had hopes that there might also be some other songs on the CD that would be worth listening to. In my opinion the last song was the only one worth listening to because all of the others are simply annoying.

First of all, hats off to Bon Jovi for trying something different with This Left Feels Right--a selective collection of their most popular songs with a twist. That twist isn't a purely acoustic reworking, MTV unplugged style--anybody looking for that experience will be sorely disappointed by what's on offer. What Bon Jovi have done is re-record these songs in a completely different way while maintaining the original lyrics, melody and song structure. What's different then? Well, quite a bit actually. Check out the almost trip-hop beat and distorted vocal of "Wanted Dead or Alive", or the lazy soul of "Livin' on a Prayer". "It's My Life" is a beautiful piano-only standout, almost worth having the whole album for.

The tracklisting isn't perfect, concentrating largely on their 1980s period (there's nothing from These Days, for instance). As such, the venture works as an effective cheese-extraction exercise, keeping the elements that made the originals so great, but removing shouty, hairspray-fuelled "whoa-yeahs". What we get is something that is closer to Jon Bon Jovi's last solo offering--the criminally underrated Destination Anyway. It doesn't always work ("Bed of Roses" just sounds like a warbling cover of the powerful original and by the time they reach "Always" it's obvious they've run out of new twists), and no doubt there will be legions of bemulleted faithfuls who will denounce this as blasphemy of the highest order. Sure, it's probably just record-company filler, but it's a worthwhile investment and you won't be embarrassed to have it on when your mates come round. --Cortman Virtue

So let me get this straight...all of Bon Jovi's hits were gathered together, chopped up, and destroyed to produce this piece of trash? How about an ACTUAL greatest hits album?

I did not like any of the songs on this album. It really only ranks 1 star, but I'll give a point for trying something new.

"This left feels right" sounds like it was done by a high school cover band trying to be artistic. Ranks WAY below Tesla (see "Five man acoustical jam" for those of you younger then 30).

I am a Bon Jovi fan and bought this without reservation. I suggest you sample the songs before you buy.

I love this album. I also love the original songs. Sometimes you feel like a nut; sometimes you don't. For those who are gasping at the supposed blasphemy of messing with classics, well, if this is all they have to worry about, their lives must be pretty good and I'm happy for them. As for me, I'm impressed that Bon Jovi took a bit of a risk. I think it worked out nicely. I'd happily buy more of this style from them.

I was SO disappointed when I listened to this CD! It's a remix of the songs. They are done acousticly and it is not worth buying. I love Bon Jovi, but this was a HUGE disappointment! I am not happy with this CD at all.

Wow, it does pain me to knock on Bon Jovi, I love New Jersey, Slippery, Keep The Faith, Cross Road, Crash and Have a Nice Day. All albums are uplifting and cheerful and all contain a handful of raise-your-fist-in-the-air anthems. I loved all these songs the first time around. Now all the songs, and the album as a whole, has this morbid, undertaking tone to it, as if Johnny Cash was their inspiration behind re-recording their greatest hits stripped down. The low point is It's My Life, the original is such an upbeat and uplifting anthem, that listening to this version makes me want to drive my car off a cliff, it's that big of a downer! This album is reminiscent of John Mellencamp's Rough Harvest cd, where Mellencamp re-records some hits and album tracks with a more raw, earthy feel to them, but to both artists why? My mother has always stated that she wants Bon Jovi's music to be played at her wake as she loves the band and is in my eyes Bon Jovi's biggest fan. Bon Jovi put out an appropriately themed album to all those fans hoping to have Bon Jovi played at their wake/funeral.
