Simply Amazing.......2007-07-01

I knew very little of Ladytron until just a few weeks ago when I stumbled on their myspace page. I immediately picked up the WH cd and found it to be amazing. Every song is unique and moving, some are dark, some are cheerful and I can't stop listning to it several times a day. I'm just sorry it took me 2 years after they released this ablem to discover them, would have loved to see them live.

This album means so much to me. As even though it has some mediocre songs on it; it also has some of the most beautiful and emotional soundscapes and progressions that I have ever heard. Take everything good from Goldfrapp, Air, Kraftwerk, Glass, Cocteau, Plague Monkeys, New Order and you have a lot of Witching hour {though I think they are now a distinctive band as opposed to their earlier (Kraftyesque work)}. Thankyou Ladytron.

Orgasm of Sound.......2006-10-06

I'm a very busy gal, holding down 2 jobs on top of being pre-med! The only time I get a break to sit down and listen to music (that's not in a bland retail store mix) is in my car, going from/to class or work. Therefore, my iPod requires some kickass driving music! That's where bassy, danceable tunes like those on Witching Hour come in. It transforms my boring vehicle into a mobile club! When you have an album that makes you feel like you're driving a Lamborghini, that's a worthy investment, my dear.

A masterpiece of electrogoth atmosphere.......2006-09-14

My girlfriend and I walked into a goth nightclub recently and heard these amazing tracks. I had to ask who it was. This is the first I've heard of this group and I have to say I am extremely impressed with what they've done here. If you're lucky one night you too will have a similar experience; it's perfect for late-night, very loud, smoky, dark, laser-lit venues, replete with PVC-attired patrons dressed in black. It's very sexual, fetishistic music. The vocals are extraordinary. It's reminiscent of material released years ago for the 4AD label in the UK. I commend the production very highly. This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

One of the coolest albums of the last few years........2006-09-12

The first time I heard Ladytron I wasn't to into them, it seemed alright, but nothing to interesting. However I came back and listened again after a few months, and I found them strangely addicting. Songs, one after another started sticking very persistantly in my brain, and before I knew it I owned everything of theirs that I could get my hands on. The band has a rather enchanting sound that is very sublime and beautiful, matched with with a smart head for songwriting that gives them a very dreamy feel. This is one of the groups helping keep modern music interesting, hopefully this or another one of their albums are in your collection.

Great metal.......2006-05-04

Hellion's The Witching Hour is a killer metal EP. Blazing guitars, thrashing drums, and vocals as only Ann Boleyn can create. If you like heavy metal or "shred" guitar playing, check this out. Hellion reminds me of kind of a mix of Warlock and Mercyful Fate, which is a great combo in my opinion. This 4-song EP is well worth the price and is a classion Hellion release.

Lost Metal Masterpiece.......2004-08-01

Ann Boleyn, the self-proclaimed "Queen of Hell" has traveled back from the flaming pits to battle the Gods of Heavy Metal one more time on Hellion's EP Witching Hour. The four tracks are made up mostly of demos but still feature oustanding sound quality and album content.

During their heyday, Hellino was one of the few female-fronted metal bands, and this not only made them unique, but definite eye candy. However, Boleyn was not just a sexy gimmick to sell more albums and tickets, but actually a trained metal vocalist. She was perhaps one of the best metal performers, male or female. THe intensity of her scortched vocals and bloodcurdling screams made her a hot commodity during hte late eighties and early nineties. She proved not only that beautiful women were capable of being successful in a genre dominated by men, but also was a role model to many future female singers who aspired to be more than just dancers in Motley Crue videos.

The album stats off with the title track, and is very reminiscent of early-Dio classics, Holy Diver and THe Last in Line. Boleyn's trademark rapturous, painful cries come roaring out like a rabid female lion. The backing music accomodates Boleyn's vocals perfectly and makes "Witching Hour" an eerily, hypnotic five-minute icebreaker.

All of the tracks are memorable and distinctive while not losing their trademark Hellino charm. Besdies Boleyn, all of the other bandmates are also well-traiend musicians and demonstrate their talent to the full extent on Witching Hour. In the new century, a younger generation of female-fronted extreme bands has emerged with bands such as Arch Enemy, Sinister and Opera IX in the forefront, but none can compare to Anne Boleyn and company. Metal just doesn't get this good anymore.

Welcome back Witchfynde!.......2001-11-27

In the first half of the 80s Witchfynde released four incredible LPs: "Give 'Em Hell" & "Stagefright" (both 1980), "Cloak & Dagger" (83-MY favorite metal album) and the under-rated masterpiece "lords of Sin" (84). They called it quits after that but reunited in '99. This new album has only three new songs (all great) while the other are re-recordings of 80s favorites-some are better than the original versions. The three best metal CDs of 2001 are "Darkness & Hope" by Moonspell, "Unleashed Memories" by Lacuna Coil and "Witching Hour" by Witchfynde. Here's hoping for more from these legends!
