Oh yeah! I got vol. 2 first and had to go back for vol. 1, and I am so glad I did. Everything I.M. does is great. No complaints at all with my purchase. Can't wait for the next one.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable.......2007-03-27

This album is absolutely amazing. Amazing ideas and formulations of phrases. This is the ultimate album along with revolutionary volume 2. Never heard anything like it. Please do yourself a favor and buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars you can kill the revolution, but you can't kill the revolutionary.......2007-03-07

this is the best hip hop album out there, if you like hardcore hip hop then, this is for you. While most well-known artists talk about they being kings, having a lot of girls, tons of money, tech talks about real stuff, real issues that are going on in the world. he is probably the smartest underground MC. we probaly wont ever listen to him on the radio, because of his socialist believes. That means only one thing, THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH, tech's anti-imperialist attitude, anti-capitalism, leftsist ideals, almost pro-castro reveals the guy who worries about the dangers of imperialsm. if you are not happy with the way the government treats you, then this cs is for you. buy it, it's totally worth it.

4 out of 5 stars A definite 2 Pac Collector's Item.......2007-06-09

I have no problem admitting that I was a late bloomer to 2Pac Shakur. Growing up and being a fan of rap music I was a heavy listener of East Coast Rap Music. You say something about Boogie Down Productions, EPMD, Gang Starr, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Eric B. & Rakim or LL Cool J, I knew exactly what you were talking about. My introdcution to 2 Pac other than the obligatory, "Same Song", "Trapped", "Brenda's Got A Baby", "Holla If Ya Hear Me", and "I Get Around" actually started when I heard Pac and MC Breed on "Gotta Get Mine" and with "Definition Of A Thug N****" that appeared on the Poetic Justice soundtrack and was produced by Warren G.

Slowly but surely I finally started paying attention to 2 Pac and my 1st purchase ended up being the classic "Me Against The World". (After his tragic death, I purchased "2Pacalypse Now" and "Stricly 4 My N*****"). Eventhough "Dear Mama" was being wore out on the radio that song still was one of my favorite tracks, as well as, "If I Die 2 Nite", "Outlaw", "So Many Tears", "Death Around The Corner", and "Temptations". One day I happened to be in my dorm room and I heard a 2Pac track that wasn't on "Me Against The World" and I had never heard the track before. Although, I only had a tape collection back then, I had a pet peeve with artists releasing a cassette and then 3 months later after they release a single that ends up being on a soundtrack or on a B Side cassette single that you have to end up buying if you collected music like I did. I asked the guy who was in the room, bobbing his head endlessly what the track was and he told me it was entitled "Str8 Ballin'" and it was on Thug Life Volume 1. I remembered 2 Pac always screaming "Thug Life" but I never knew that they had a whole tape/CD that was in stores. I did remember the track "Pour Out A Little Liquor" that was featured on the "Above The Rim" soundtrack that was labeled Thug Life and had 2Pac appearing solo. I didn't even have to hear anymore tracks, I remember going to the local record store (Waxie Maxie's if I remember correctly) and purchasing the tape, which I eventually purchased on CD when I started my CD collection.

As soon as I put the tape in I was immediately floored by "Bury Me A "G". I instantly recognized the Isley Brothers' "For The Love Of You (Parts 1 & 2)" sample and 2Pac sounded as good as he did on "Gotta Get Mine". The last verse on this track will always be one of 2Pac's best verses, in my opinion. I had to rewind the tape back to the beginning and listen to the track again, not only to hear 2 Pac's verses but I recognized some familiar voices and I couldn't pin point the track that I heard them on. When I looked at the track listing, I then remembered that I was familiar with "Cradle To The Grave", which the Video Jukebox use to wear out constantly. The next track to immediately catch my attention ended up being "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" w/featured the infamous West Coast vocalist Nate Dogg. The track ended up being a track for one of their fallen homies and Nate's "I wish it would have been another" was in my head for a long time. "Under Pressure" was also another track that caught my attention when I heard a familiar voice in Stretch. I remembered that I bought the "Above The Rim" soundtrack CD and one of my boys bought the tape. In an eerie event, the "Above The Rim" tape had more songs than the CD which was unheard of in those times with the exception of Nas' "Silent Murder" which appeared on the "It Was Written" tape and not the CD. When I heard "Pain" which featured 2 Pac and Stretch and "Loyal To The Game" that had 2 Pac, Treach from Naughty By Nature and some cat named Riddler if I remember correctly, I was highly disgusted that I had the CD. 'Til this day "Pain" is one of my favorite 2 Pac songs of all time. So when I heard Strecth with the "When the pressure on it's a hit, ski mask, extra gats, bring the clips, don't nobody move when we walk the streets, they stay silent 'cause talk is cheap", the track immediately became one of my favorites.

This CD's best track is clearly "Str8 Ballin'". I have no idea what 2Pac's mindframe was when he made this song. Possibly it was the glorification of Thug Life, but this is clearly one of 2Pac's best tracks ever. When they had a remastered version of the track on the 2 Pac "Resurrection" soundtrack I was definitely pleased. Easy Moe Bee, who produced "If I Die 2 Nite" and "Temptations" from "Me Against The World", laid down the production for "Str8 Ballin'" and 2Pac took care of the rest.

Other than the tracks that I mentioned "S*** Don't Stop" is worth checking out because of its use of the "Aqua Boogie" sample and so are the tracks "Stay True" and "Street Fame". Overall, I recommend this CD because some people may just be familiar with just the actual 2Pac disc catalog and not this collector's item if you are a 2Pac fan. You get a disc where 2Pac is featured on 8 out of 10 tracks and this should be added to your collection if you have the rest of his releases.

5 out of 5 stars The most overlooked chapter of the 2Pac saga.......2007-05-21

In 1994, 2Pac had established himself as a west coast power, and while he was not yet at the level of superstardom that affiliation with Death Row Records would bring, he was established from his first two albums, 2Pacalypse Now and Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.. Thug Life was a group of 2Pac's friends including Mopreme, Macadoshis, Rated R, and Big Syke. Many tracks were recorded for this album, and a lot were cut, and this album was not nearly as violent a work as it could have been (for instance, a song with the verse from the song "Runnin'" from "2Pac Resurrection" was cut). "Volume 1" is a ten-track release that clocks in at just over forty minutes, and it's got more of a relaxed, laidback vibe than Pac's later music. It's really, really good. Pac's strength is obvious, but his boys are also very capable MCs. On "Volume 1," the songs range from upbeat party songs to more laidback street cuts, as well as a handful of the deep, philosophical cuts that 2Pac so perfected. The party jams are good, but they're at their best on songs deep songs like "Pour Out a Little Liquor." The deep lyrics over laidback beats is a cool product. Two of these, "Bury Me a G" and of course the legendary "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" are among the best of 2Pac's discography. Like Pac himself, Thug Life are better artists than rappers. When I say that, I mean that their entire product is greater than the sum of their parts. For instance, none of them are great vocabularists, they might use the word "motherf...in'" eight times in a verse to take up syllables. But like 2Pac, they are so emotional and convey so much emotion in their raps that it's really effective and dramatic. They are gangstas first, and even with so much deep philosophizing, you won't lose sight that they're from the streets. The production is excellent. 1994 produced a lot of beautiful sounding hip hop from the west coast, and the production on "Volume 1" is just great. It's the kind of sound that evokes pure California imagery, yet it's not g-funk at all. It's laidback and soulful, but not the kind of rolling, synth-heavy g-funk that would soon take over. There are multiple classic jams here, you'd be hard pressed to find another single album with as many true classics as this, even if every song isn't. There's so much to be said for this album, but overall, "Volume 1" is a truly fine work of lyrically and musically appealing music, and I highly recommend it to all fans of 2Pac and west coast hip hop.

The first song is a true hip hop classic, "Bury Me a G." This song utilizes a gorgeous Isley Brothers soul sample, later artists like Nas, UGK, and Master P would use the same sample trying to recapture the glory. This song's a true anthem of ghetto lifestyle, from the chorus, ("I ain't got time for b...s, gotta keep my mind on my motherf...in' switches...") to the verses talking about the dangers and trials of slangin' and bangin'. This shows a slightly philosophical style that 2Pac embraced, yet the laidback production is settling, creating a unique feel. All the verses are great. "Don't Get It Twisted" is fairly standard gangsta fare, but the upbeat production is good. "S... Don't Stop" is more of a party jam, fast and funky. I love the slow, winding beat on "Pour Out a Little Liquor," a toast to lost homies. 2Pac made a lot of songs like this during his career, and this is among the best. "Stay True" is an upbeat summertime anthem, and it's awesome. The next song is truly one of my favorites of all time, the epic "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" This song has all the elements you could need for a classic: a legendary Warren G beat, Nate Dogg on the hook, and all the members of the group. The raps are among the most emotional they ever did, and the chemistry and execution are perfect. By the second and third verse, it seems like every other word is "motherf...in'," but you won't even notice because you'll be yelling along with Syke and Rated R. "Under Pressure" is an appealing, dark, streets track. "Street Fame" is solid but not amazing. "Cradle to the Grave" is a definite classic, though, with great production, an awesome chorus, and some of Pac's most noteworthy styles. The album closes with one more awesome song, the ultra-catchy "Str8 Ballin'."

I feel like "Volume 1" gets overlooked in comparison to a lot of Pac's other classics, and while it certainly isn't on the level of Me Against the World or All Eyez on Me, it contains multiple classic singles and is a great album from start to finish. It seems like even Outlawz got more press than Thug Life. I highly recommend "Volume 1," it has all the characteristics of Pac's great solos, and the chemistry and production is awesome. This is a classic, those who have yet to hear it might consider it a must-have!

4 out of 5 stars Thug Passion Put To Wax {4.5 Stars}.......2007-01-27

Can't really add much to the reviews. This is one of those albums that increases in listening value as it gets older. I'll admit that when this came out in '94, I only bumped the singles. It didn't grab me at the time. Sometime around '97 I gave it a spin and I've been loving it ever since. There are plenty of bangers on the album, but classics like "Pour Out A Little Liquor", "Str8 Ballin' ", "How Long Will They Mourn Me", Cradle To The Grave", and "Under Pressure" make this album worth owning all by themselves. The rest of the songs are on point too -- there isn't much filler on this album. The production is handled by Warren G. & Nate Dogg (1), the awesone yet underrated Easy Mo B (1), Johnny J (1), Jay & Mopreme (1), Jay & Syke (1), Stretch (1), and Thug Music (4). I'd say that all contributing producers turned in dope tracks.

The only tracks that I would call skip material are "Sh** Don't Stop" and "Don't Get It Twisted". "Sh** Don't Stop" is probably the most lazily produced track on the whole album and the lyrics are unimpressive. The production is on "Don't Get It Twisted" cool, but it's one of those songs that you have to be in the mood for it (in my opinion).

Volume 1 is a passionate, if at times misdirected, release from the Thug Life camp. The production is nothing short of vintage mid 90's Cali vibes. It holds up very well 13 years after its release. Of course, if you're a Tupac completist, you probably have this album already. But even if you're not a Pac fan, this should be a part of your collection.

R.I.P. Tupac

Standout Tracks: How Long Will They Mourn Me feat. Nate Dogg, Pour Out A Little Liquor, Str8 Ballin' (My Favorite), Cradle To The Grave, Under Pressure, Bury Me A G feat. Natasha Walker (of Y.N.V.)

5 out of 5 stars THE OFFICAL AMAZON HIP-HOP REVIEWER.......2007-01-09

Hello there people looking into buying THUG LIFE VOLUME 1.

i would first like to start with a little information on THUG LIFE which was the name of a rap group which featured 2pac, big syke, mopreme and a few other's. if you are a 2pac fan you may of already heard of this album although this album is one of 2pacs most unrecornised albums and when 2pac founded the group in 1993 they where quite unknown to the public and it was only after 2pac was shoot when people noticed the album.

the THUG LIFE group may better today be known as the OUTLAWZ with big syke changing his name to MUSSILINI on the outlawz albums 2pac to MAKAVELI, MOPREME did not stay with the group when they changed there names to the OUTLAWZ which was a shame due to the fact MOPREME was one of the better rappers on the THUG LIFE album, he was also the son of the late MUTULU shakur which was 2pacs stepfather. mutulu is mentioned alot in 2pacs older albums due to the fact mutulu was there for tupac and tupac saw him as a father figure,
even though mutulu was placed on the FBI's MOST WANTED LIST after escaping from prison in the 80's tupac looked up to him.

the name THUG LIFE is a name 2pac called the group with the meaning : The Hate U Gave Little Infants F**k Every1 which spells out thug life if you use the first letter in every word.

the notoious B.I.G was also meant to join the group when they had first started but the record label desided against it and removed b.i.g

* THE ALBUM *
This is a old classic album and fans of tupac would be expected to have this place near the top shelf of any cd rack, due to tupacs death the rise of price's to shakurs albums means they have shoot up quite a lot and you could be expected to pay from $15 and upwards per album but at the moment i think this album is going rather cheap.

if your a fan of ALL EYEZ ON ME and alot of tupacs latier stuff and style then this album may not be your best album to buy, tupac is often well know for his poetic rhyming and graphic lyrics but this album is more hardcore and talk's about diffrent topics in one song rather then the song telling a story of just one topic ie: tear drops and close caskets

there seems to be more of a darker side to this album and although the album is diffrent to shakurs newer stuff this album is still a brilliant album, ( i didn't leave this album to be the last one to buy till i finished my pac collection, i think it was the 3rd i bought )

there are some brilliant songs on this album, songs like HOW LONG WILL YOU MORN ME in memory for kado (R.I.P) Which also D.M.X. does a memorial for KADO at the end of WHERE THE HOOD AT vidoe

even if you buy the album for HOW LONG WILL THEY MORN ME it is still money well spent due to the song been such a classic with great lyrics and a brilliant choaros by NATE DOGG, there are other great song on there too with great basic background beats of the drums with a funky tune the come over the drums. plent of song reach out and touch you when listening to the lyrics and you will find your self listening to the album more and more once you own it, also the lyrics are easy to pick up on and means easier to sing along with (we all like a good sing along) i would recomend this album to first time buyer's and defo to old 2pac fans who havn't got it yet.

thank you for taking the time to read my review, i hoped it help you in your choice. please feel free to leave coments and to also look at my other reviews by clicking on "see all reviews" button next to my name.

4 out of 5 stars Damn good album .......2006-08-03

Why can't people review a PAC album without makin' comparisons to Biggie. Both of them was talented mc's in there own way. It seems that one artist cant be mentioned without the other and thats bull****.This was a great album. I enjoy it more now cause I'm older and understand Pac's lyrics better now than before. I won't say it was the best album in 94 to me. I say there is about 3 or 4 albums I liked alot better than this but it doesn't take away Pac was on point most of the time on the mic. The production is what really makes this album shine. I have no particular stand out tracks, there all good and if your new to Pac I would recommed this before his afterdeath albums.

I think this is a good CD, they extended some songs, they have the original mix of Crossroads, I actually think I like that version better than the version they have on E. 1999, and a couple previously unreleased tracks.

I like it.

Most of this album is dedicated to Bones most popular and mainstream music. It has almost all of there songs that could be heard on the radio up until its release. Oddly Tha Crossroads is not among the songs on Vol 1. That is the song Bone is most famously known for. It does have Crossroad, but beware it sounds very different then Tha Crossroads. As for the rest of the album it contains songs with appearances from Notorious Big(Notorious Thugs), Mariah Carey(Breakdown), and Eazy E(Foe the love of $). The only songs that were previously not well known include BNK, F*** the police, and P.O.D.

3 out of 5 stars Collection? hmm..........2005-11-10

when they say "The Collection" they aren't refering to a collection of Bone's best...b/c this def. isn't it!!! If you want the true BTNH collection, you at least need to pick up "Creepin' on ah come up" & "E 1999 Eternal"...Plus "Art of War" isn't a bad record either..check em' out

2 out of 5 stars Old News Is Bad News.......2005-11-05

Greatest Hits collections of rap artists are usually a pretty bad idea. Most good rappers pack a visceral punch on first impact, but this wears thin with repeated listenings. This is especially true of gangsta rap. With what allegedly should represent the best work of B-T-H on one disk, this collection falls on its face trying to get around itself. Arranged back to back, the rapid-fire syncopated delivery that constitutes virtually every track on this collection wears thin. The raps blur together, and after two songs, the obscenity-laced machine-gun vocal play loses its novelty value, sounding more like a stylized novelty than any type of artistic vision. Once the raps lose their ability to hold your attention, all that remains are the rhythm tracks, which are serviceable at best. Their biggest hit, "Tha Crossroads", appears here in a version that is completely unrecognizable from its better-known form, further reducing the value of this collection. Worse, they include a warmed-over version of "F- Tha Police", an exercise in futility that only serves to dissipate the power of NWA's original.
Spending money on this collection is like buying old newspaper articles. It might have had some value when it first hit the stands, but who wants yesterday's papers? C Tom Ryan

I really am just writing this to clarify that the song titled "Whatcha Gonna Do?" (#12) that is listed as DMX is NOT DMX... any hip hop fan can tell you that this is Jayo Felony. How that got confused, I have no idea. That being said, this is a good compilation for starting with late 90's hip hop.

4 out of 5 stars Top Hits of '98!.......2001-02-19

This compilation features hip hop hits that climbed the charts in 1998. This album starts you off with a Latino hit called "Still Not a Player" by Big Punisher (R.I.P.). Which was everyone's jam. "Money Ain't a Thing" by Jermaine Dupri feat. Jay-Z which is featured on both JD's & Jay-Z's album. Next there's the L.O.X.'s best song they ever made called "Money, Power, Respect" featuring DMX & Lil' Kim, tight beat. "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" by Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz has gotten so much airplay. Maybe it's their best song too. Track 5 is 2Pac's "love song" called "Do For Love". E-40 has A LOT of slow songs and "Hope I Don't Go Back" is one of them. But it's a nice joint. The next track will get you pumped-up from those last 2 songs, it's called "Party ain't a Party" by Queen Pen w/ Markell Riley, Mr. Cheeks, Nutta Butta, & Freaky Tah. Busta Rhymes will make you "Turn it up" on the next track. "Get At Me Dog" is DMX's first single with a tight beat. (which feature's Sheek of The L.O.X.) I'm not hatin', but Snoog Dogg sounds weak on this good song called "Still a G Thing"; a sequel to "Nuttin but a G Thing". The 2nd verse of the hook in "It's Alright are not for lil' kids ears. "It's NOT Alright" Ya heard? Then there's the most pumped-up song on the compilation called "Watcha Gonna Do". This song is tight! You'll be boppin' heads to this one. Tracks 13-18 are the weak tracks except #14; it's "N.O.R.E." by Noreaga, which should'eve been put with the good tracks (#1-12). Overall, I gave this CD 4 stars cause of tracks 13, 15-18. If you loved the rap music of '98, this one's for you.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2007-03-08

This is actually one of the best mixtapes I've ever bought. You can listen str8 thru all of the tracks with the exception of "Destiny" which I thought was not very good. Great job in the Grand Hustle Camp, tho

3 out of 5 stars Decent compilation from the King of the South, and his Court........2007-01-19

T.I. is one of my favorite commerial emcees, and his last solo release, King., solidified his spot as one of the best in the game today. Now, naturally, being such a large fan of Tip, I've wanted to enjoy some of his crew as well. Unfortunately, none of T.I.'s crew hold a candle to him, and most of them are borderline wack. Veteran B.G., and Tip's personal protege, Young Dro, both hold their own on this release, and Big Kuntry is decent, if not anything more; but the rest of the people T.I. has put on over the past couple years have made me question Tip's judgement of other emcee's talents.

T.I.'s rarely on this album, although he is the most featured artist, finding a spot on five of the album's fourteen cuts(Young Dro is on three); the tracks with Tip are undoubtedly the highlights, or at the very least, the four that could be considered 'new material'(two of which, ironically, are remixes) are; My Girl with Young Dro, though, is found on Young Dro's debut in exact form. The Yeah remix is decent, if only for Tip's verse, while the Rashad Morgan-laced Tell 'Em What They Wanna Hear is tight, despite it's instrumental sounding eerily familiar to Wait(The Whipser Song). The Top Back remix is definitely the stand-out cut on this album, and with two Southern powerhouses like Jeezy and Tip on the track, it's no wonder T.I. releases this as the single to move units. While it's probably not as good as the original(face it, T.I. is a far better emcee than any of the guests on the remix), it still sounds highly dope when sat next to most of the material found on this album. The T.I.-solo cut, Where They At, is also another incentive to purchase this album, for those who need a T.I. fix while waiting on T.I. Vs. T.I.P. later this year.

Young Dro provides a nice cut on Grand Hustle Mafia, one of a couple Khao produced tracks; each of which are some of the album's highlights. Khao even raps on Grand Hustle Beatmaker, and does a decent job; the beat on that track is excellent, however. The virtual-unknown, Alfamega, also shows promise on his one and only feature, found mid-album; he goes much deeper than most of T.I.'s associates on Da One, but isn't too profound to throw off the initial Grand Hustle fanbase. Big Kuntry and B.G.'s collaboration is decent, and so is B.G.'s solo cut, but they're definitely nothing to write home about. Governor is also a rather talented crooner, and his Scott Storch produced Destiny track, which closes the album, ends this rather mixed-bag of treats with some wholesome soul food.

On the other side of this album, when it's not mediocre with Big Kuntry and B.G., it's downright attrocious with Xtaci and Mac Boney. Mac Boney, a member of the P$C, is going absolutely nowhere at this rate; and that's probably for the best. Xtaci, on the other hand, is horrible; there's no sugar-coating that. Only half of the album's beats are hot, too; if you were as spoiled by T.I.'s King as myself, hearing something like In Da Streetz Vol. 4's production maybe tough to swallow.

In the end, In Da Streetz Vol. 4 is worth checking out, but be forewarned. It's merely decent, and nothing more; you may get a week out of the majority of the tracks, but it's ultimately forgettable. The Top Back remix is the main selling point for a reason, and the T.I. and Young Dro solo cuts are also more reason to purchase this; if you're not a hardcore T.I. or Grand Hustle fan though, it's not recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Solid golden-era Rawkus release.......2007-06-25

I'm amazed only two other people have written a review of this album. I bought it a few months ago and I remember all the good times. Solid beats and rhymes. A nice collab with OC and Ras Kass, and some impressive cyphers with a vicious beat from Will I Am. A classic song in The Manifesto where Kweli breaks down the composition of the culture. 8.35/10 for a good B.

4 out of 5 stars This album holds it down!.......2006-03-10

One day about 6 years ago, I was listening to the local hip hop station, KS 107.5. After hearing Country Grammar, It Wasn't Me and Stan 5 times each that day, I stood up in my cubicle and said, to no one in particular, "This sucks!" A friend of mine walked over and asked me what I was talking about. I told him that I couldn't stand listening to the same old rap music over and over anymore. He handed me a two cd set, and told me to listen to it, and see if I didn't think that it was far better than what the radio was playing. That two CD set was this fantastic collection of underground hip hop, which served to introduce me to the artists that would come to be the standards for where I held hip hop to. The set has some great examples of lyricism from such luminaries as Mos Def, Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip and Bahamadia, plus others who aren't as well known. The CD takes the form of a "live" open mic night, presided over by De La Soul, and their introductions, which are backed by the piano programming of 88 Keys, add to the feeling of the album. If you're interested in underground hip hop, this is a good place to start.

GREAT CD set!! I'm once again living in the 80's!!! My favorites are White Lines, LaDiDaDi, and Joy and Pain. It doesn't get any better than this.....

5 out of 5 stars Good CD's .......2005-09-02

I got the box set for my birthday a couple years ago. All four CD's are pretty good. Some of my favorites are White Lines - Grand Master Flash, The Show - Doug E. Fresh, Childrens Story - Slick Rick, 6 N' The Mornin' - Ice T, Back to the Hotel - N 2 Deep, Freaky Tales - Too Short, and Aint no Future In Yo' Frontin - M.C. Breed.

5 out of 5 stars Old School Rap, Vol 1-4.......2005-08-16

This box set really took me back to the good ol' days of the 1980's. I literally dance all around my room when I listen to the CD's! Each rap reminds me of a fun and special time in my life. This is a great collection! So many of the old school rappers are represented.A+++!

5 out of 5 stars These young bucks don't know nuthin about REAL HIP HOP.......2004-10-22

I was looking at the reviews posted and I dont know what these people (kids) are talking about. I am a child of the 80's and I grew up listening to the songs on these albums. Every last one of the are bonafide hits-they rocked the parties I attended-and I still listen to them. Any real hip hop head would know not only the artists listed, (most of them have made songs that are considered classics) but they would also know the words to the songs. If you want a real education about real hip hop, buy this compilation. I didn't, because I already have all these songs, and most of them are on cassette-how about that. Don't let the other reviews deter you -these hits are timeless and were the hype before crunk and bling took over the culture.

4 out of 5 stars Unknown DJ?.......2003-12-16

Grandmaster Flash an unknown DJ? That's why one reviewer slammed disc three. Jeez. Anyone who says that doesn't deserve to get to get to write a review about old school hip hop. Seriously. Do your homework. This mix is far from his best, but the fact that Flash mixed it makes this valuable to any fan of old school.
Man, I am still scratching my head. How does one of the most important pioneers of hip hop get relegated to the title of "unknown dj?" I think it is fascinating to see what were his favorite tracks, given that he more than likely influenced many of them.

5 out of 5 stars best compilation i own.......2003-05-13

This cd is the best compilation i own. It has a devils brigade song called vampire girl. devils brigade is a psychobilly band which is everyone in rancid except for lars. it also has good tracks from tiger army, lars and the bastards, nekromantix, rancid, distillers, agnostic front, dropkick murphys and some other this compilation is awesome but at the end theres some ska i dont enjoy too much. this cd also contains 2 videos you can watch on your computer. one is dropkick murphys - spicy mchaggis jig and the other is tiger army - cupids victim. this is a very good compilation its well worth 5-6 bucks.i hope they come out with give em the boot 4.

5 out of 5 stars good mix.......2002-12-12

give em the boot 2 had a lot of reggae & ska on it & this one is more punk rock, which is good. the bands on it were really good and i pretty much liked every song (the joe strummer one was kind of weird...not like the clash at all). i would recommend it especially since it's so cheap.

4 out of 5 stars Another in a great series.......2002-09-15

Hellcat Records has turned out another great compilation. I must say that it sounds a little harder, the music a little less melodic and more hardcore. That's just fine by me. The music videos are a nice touch. "The Spicy McHaggis Jig" video is one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time.

Good work, Tim!

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Give em the boot 2...........2002-05-23

I was excited when I saw that their was a new Give em the boot compilation out, as Give em the boot 2, is one of my favorite cd's ever. Although when I played this cd I was sad to hear that the reggae and ska sounds that where on Give em the boot 2 have been substituted for a straight ahead punk compilation. Not to mention that the quality of songs on this album, are nowhere as good as the tracks selected for the two previous Give em the boot cd's. If you are going to get a Give em the Boot cd, buy the second installment, it is much better...

2 out of 5 stars In a word: Disappointing........2002-04-02

Give 'Em The Boots I and II are punk-rock neccessities. Sprinkled with ska, reggae and rocksteady, they were truly palatable for those of us with eclectic tastes. Sadly, Give 'Em The Boot III purifies itself of most of the reggae and ska from it's two previous outings, leaving us with a punk rock wasteland. The songs here just simply aren't up to Hellcat's high standars. There are a few good moments (The Slackers' BRILLIANT "Information Error", the Tiger Army video) but that is outweighed by a parade of messy and talentless punk rock. Even the Rancid track is anemic.

Although, for [the money], "Give 'Em The Boot III" isn't much of a gamble. Still, it's been three years since Vol. II, and III frankly falls flat on it's body-pierced face.

gone fishin is the only good cut on the entire cd, there are some others that are "un-skip-able" but otherwise its a mindless background compilation of off brand bama no names. consistant fake neo-soul electric beat throughout the cd can be annoying if you have been there before. i would have been mad if i paid more than $10 for it. it serves its purpose as a stuck in traffic soundtrack, however, i find myself listening to "gone fishin" over and over again.

Hidden Beach has done it again!!! This is one of best undiscovered neo-soul albums out there. It's the kind of album you put and everyone says: "Who is that?" Several undiscovered artists are ont his album.Every song and artist like Mike Phillips will keep you in that neo-soul music. If you're a lover of neo-soul, this album is a must have.

The Ruff Ryders camp is at it again. After Eve and Drag-On's solo projects, the crew is hitting heads with their second group LP, a sequel to Ryde or Die, Vol. 1. Ryde or Die, Vol. 2 is a Swizz Beatz-produced compilation that sounds a lot like video games. Whereas the crew's first LP featured DMX prominently, this one includes hardly any songs with the dog himself, Eve, or most of the original Ryders. Ryde or Die, Vol. 2 seems to be more of an opportunity for junior rhymers of the double-R, such as Yung Wun, to show their skills. Vol. 2 also gives listeners a chance to hear guest appearances by favorites such as Twista, Snoop Dogg, and Scarface. One song that stands out of this solid effort is the Sheek (of LOX), Redman, and Method Man banger, "2 Tears in a Bucket." --Vanessa Satten

2 out of 5 stars There is nuthin good about this album.......2006-11-20

This is when I officially gave up on RR. Swizz beats is the worst producer in the world. All those chimes in his beats makes me wonder how many christmas songs he's influenced by. There is a couple decent tracks but not enough to get more than this. Some of the features shine but the horrible beats kill the track for me. WW3 to me is everything whats wrong with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Ruff Ryder Compliation - Nothing is Bad about this Album.......2005-08-04

This is the second album of Ruff Ryders. Swizz Compliation Part Two if noboies sure. And if you are. Then don't read this. This second album is like more Southeren Beats and They Still Rhyme The Same. Nothing is bad about this album. Just listen to it. It's more creative. And I give it 5 Stars because of that Styles P song. Holiday. Change the Chorus Lyrics and it will be better.

1. WWIII (With Snoop Dogg, Yung Wun, Scarface and Jadakiss)

2. 2 Tears in a Bucket (Method Man, Redman and Sheek Louch)

5. It's a Holiday (Skit) (Probably Drag-On, Styles, Yung Wun, and Jadakiss)

6. Holiday (Styles) (MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS WHOLE ALBUM)

7. Weed, Hoes, Dough (Drag-On) (Better Luck Next Time)

8. **** Da' Haters (Skit) (Swizz is on the Phone with Busta Rhymes)

10. My Name Is Kiss (Jadakiss) (My Favorite Solo Song By Jadakiss on this ALBUM)

11. Twisted Heat (Twista and Drag-On) (Great Down South Beat)

12. Go Head (The Lyrics By Styles P and The Beat should Be For Him)

13. I'm a H-O-E (Eve and Drag-On)

Volume 2 hit the streets just over a year since Volume 1 was dropped. The roster stays the same, except there is no Infa Red & Cross on this one, and you get Yung Wun & Swizz Beats. Not as good as Volume 1 but a little better then Volume's 3 & 4. As with volume 1, you get some big name guests as well as the RR camp and the first known verse of Swizz Beats' find, Cassidy, that I know of. 13 songs, like volume 1, but no classics and not as many horrible songs, it's more balanced. It has 2-3 almost classic tracks, 4-5 good songs, 3 ok ones, and 3 I skip. Production is decent, Swizz Beatz does 5 songs, Teflon, Mahogany, TJ Beats all do 2 songs, and P KIller Tracks & Parle each do 1. Another good one to get for fans of the Double R.

#1 - 8 (Snoop Dogg, Yung Wun, Scarface, Jadakiss)
#2 - 8 (Method Man, Sheek, Redman)
#3 - 5 (Eve & Jadakiss)
#4 - 7.5 (Yung Wun, Larsiny, Cassidy)
#6 - 9.5 (Styles -- tight beat)
#7 - 6.5 (Drag-On)
#9 - 7 (Swizz Beatz & Busta Rhymes)
#10 - 9.5 (Jadakiss -- nice beat)
#11 - 8 (Twista & Drag-On --- super fast rapping on this one)
#12 - 9 (Jadakiss, Styles, Sheek -- LOX)
#14 - 4.5 (Trick Daddy & Yung Wun)
#15 - 8 (DMX)
#16 - 4 (Parle)

5 out of 5 stars Double R is solid.......2004-08-17

I dont know what the F*ck some of you bi*ches are talking about, this album is killer! It has great appearances from the world's best rappers such as Snoop Dogg,DMX,LOX,Busta Rhymes,Twista and Trick Daddy. This album also has new young bucks like Drag-on and Yung Wun, Drag is in a class of his own but Yung Wun's flow is pretty good too. Swizz Beats produces amazing beats on this album... people are going to be sampling his beats for years to come. This album has it all, it goes hard like Styles and soft like Parle. Standout tracks are

WWIII(Snoop Dogg,Yung Wun,Scarface and Jadakiss)
Twisted Heat (Drag-On and Twista)
Go Head (LOX)
The Great (DMX)
Ryde or die boyz (Yung Wun and Larsiny)
