Worth the wait.......2002-07-15
I remember the golden days of freestyle and this is the best. I have the whole collection and I wouldn't trade it for the world. In fact, I think if my house ever caught on fire, this would be the only thing I'd save! Take it from a girl from the Bronx, you won't go wrong with this.
Hot Freestyle.......2002-07-08
Freestyle Music is the best kind of music there is. Volume Eight of this series is the next best CD next to Volume One. Lot of dark, fast beats. Best is "When I Hear Music" by Debbie Deb, followed by "Picking up Pieces" by Brenda K. Starr.
why did Tommy Boy wait so long to put out this CD????.......2001-01-31
It has some of my absolute favorite Freestyle songs on it! I love When I Hear Music,Sincerely Yours, If You Leave Me Now,etc. The entire CD usually has me dancing.
LOVE THE COLLECTION.......1999-11-09
This is one of the best CD's Mr. Tommy Boy have done to all freestyle fanatics. Please make volume 11,12,13...etc. and never finish.

I would pass on this one.......2007-06-03
A decent assortment of song's but not with any length.
The earlier volume's in this series are a better choice. It takes time to find what to like because there are so many different choices.Be patient and read the reviews because we all do and try and reach out to help one another in explaining as best we could . Everyone has their own all time favorite's,lol.
Happy Dancing.

4 all the freestyle freeks this is one collection -u- canot over look.
Definately buying it!!!!.......2006-10-17
I haven't purchased this yet but after seeing the song titles and reading all the great comments, I've made up my mind!! The song titles flashed a wave of GREAT memories for me. I am a native South Floridian and a clubber back when these songs were out and I loved that time.
I won't be able to make the Freestyle Explosion concert in Miami, FL on Oct 20 but buying this collection is the next best thing for me.
I cannot wait to listen to all of it!!!!
For anyone who partied and danced from 1987 to 1994.......2006-09-12
This is by far the best collection out there with freestyle dance music. I have had it for years and it is the only thing that gets me up and running on my treadmill which at 32yrs old, is much needed. It is a great blast from the past - going to the clubs and dancin and partying all night in Philly. Reminds me of the good ole days!! If you get every volume there are only a few songs missing. Most are there and it will really take you back. Highly recommend for the early 90's East Coast clubbers!!
"A DIE HARD FREESTYLE FAN".......2005-01-12
Hello everyone! I grew up with freestyle along with the electonic/dance pop/industrial O' the day genres of music; but freestyle music held a profound, deep corner in my heart. I think it was it's unique sound and pensive lyrics that attracted it to me. Most of the songs dealt with wanting to party your ass off or when both sexes were tryin' to get their love lives staightened out. A characteristic of a freestyle song was that it made you feel emotion and that each song had that uniqueness(I'm talking about the earlier better freestyle/club songs that are showcased on these compilations).
I just turned 32 y/o last Dec. 2004, so let's do the math; that I would've been around 14-15 y/o, when freestyle music was gaining attention(now don't you guys laugh). By the peak of freestyle('round 1991), I was a senior in highschool- 17 y/o,
freestyle was standing on it's last limbs and so be very fortunate that you've stumbled upon a collection of the greatest freestyle dance classics; 'cause after 1992 freestyle officially died! I mean their was freesyle still but just not as good. The times were changing, people's tastes were changing- even with dance music or any type of music for that matter. I could go on & on about this; so I strongly recommend this-plus TOMMYBOY RECORDS took alot of time to put this together. I just noticed a volume #'s 9 and 10 which I plan on purchasing even though I have the majority of these songs in some shape/form or another(c.d. and/or vinyl). O.K. folks, I'm gonna leave you with my top 10 list of freestyle songs(from my personal top 100 list which I'll print out somewhere at a later date). I want to thank all freestyle writers/producers and artists for the impact you left on me and when listen to these songs I'm still moved and motivated to pursue my singing- again THANKS!

Umm. Get the other 9 volumes and thats it..........2004-03-17
Being a huge fan of freestyle ever since i was 3 years old (yes seriously) i ve been listening to alot of it, and even though im a teenager right now and this music was before my time, and i was a toddler, i still know enough about it after listening to the classics. First off, this CD does not have the freestyle sound thats found in the other 9 CD's and while yes, i do understand that around 92 was when freestyle was changing and the old kind 'died', but this new sound is not what freestyle is all about. The first 3 tracks do nothing to me. After that i wanted to break out my volume 1 and listen to it again. Now thats a volume i will never get tired of...but this was just...wrong. This final volume should have been a release of classics that were not in the other 9 voumes....
Heres what should have been:
01 stevie b - stop the love
02 tolga - lovin fool
03 tomax - regrets only
04 fascination - go away
05 solid - loving you
06 tka - x ray vision
07 deniz - you were the one
08 sherry c - am i the one for you
09 desiree - baby be mine
10 noel - out of time
11 d'zyre - forever amor
12 & more - materialistic girl
13 spirit matter - crimes of passion
14 fascination - dont you think its time
15 tpe - then came you
Not bad.......2001-12-08
If you ever went to the cool clubs in the day then you heard most of these especailly Track 5
only the first three or four songs are good.......2000-12-19
This Freestyle CD was not as great as the other ones because it contains a lot of songs that I never heard before (Time Passes By),etc.
okay.......2000-03-18
It would have been better with the freestyle version of Time Passes By.
A Freestyle Collection Must-Have.......1998-08-11
This disc is the last of a 10-disc series that is the definitive collection of Freestyle music. The series features a variety of songs from the most popular artists of the genre, including many hard-to-find classics. All discs include comprehensive liner notes charting the history of Freestyle music (except Volumes 8 through 10, which were later added to the series). A must-have collection for anyone interested in dance music from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s.
Disc Ten Highlights: Volumes 1 through 7 were, for the most part, chronological in the listing of songs. Volume 10 offers a variety of hits from Freestyle's newest generation of artists (with a couple classics for good measure). This CD is highlighted by the inclusion of Cynthia's "How I Love Him" and George Lamond's "It's Always You."
This volume also contains new classics by Planet Soul, Jocelyn Enriquez, Lisette Melendez, Collage, Rochelle, and more.

Customer Reviews:
Not the strongest collection around, but worth finding for some of the otherwise unavailable extended mixes.......2007-01-16
Most every song on this collection is well worth hearing, but the collection itself has mostly been rendered redundant by bigger, more comprehensive collections. However, the full 12" version of Regina's "Baby Love" is almost certainly the best-ever treatment of that great song, and this may be the only way to get it. (Finding the full album that features the song in its base form is not exactly the easiest thing to do in the first place).
A reviewer said "The songs are all extended versions..." like it's a bad thing! That's not good!.......2005-10-26
Perhaps in today's concept of remixing, it would be better to have the original Pop version because the remix translated the song into something barely even a shadow of it's original self. However, this was not always the case! In the 70's and 80's when a song got remixed it still sounded like the original version but longer and with some variation in the tonal sounds. Perhaps instruments not used in the original mix were used in the remix.
Now for the review of this cd. Here we have 9 songs in "12" form". However; these versions are STILL of the original production, perhaps with little additional production or overdubs which COMPLIMENT the original music, not replace it! Back in the 80's when I heard a song I really was diggin' I always looked forward to getting the 12" record onto my turntable to heard it. In most cases, the remixes were better as the recording's sonic levels were retweaked and some instruments that either were not used in the original mix or were more in the background are present and/or more pronounced. Other traits of these remixes would be sound effects, punched up drums and percussion. For me and a lot of the remix fans, getting a remixed version of our favorite songs was like getting the whole box of chocolates instead of just a bite-sized piece.
Alot of these songs' 12" versions made it onto radio during drive-time hours. When I bought this cd so many years ago, it was for the 12" version of Baby Love. This is the version I am used to and the radio version was just not going to do. I Can't Wait was one of those remixes that hit the radio in full form during all hours of the day in the S.F. Bay Area...but perhaps that was just in San Francisco but not in places like Denver! I can understand people being used to the radio version. However, if they really liked that version, it seems that they would like to get MORE of the song that they love. This was the case for me. Nowadays, I don't get more of the song I love, I get a recreation of it, and most of the time, yes I like the original version better.
80s NRG in full 12" form!!!.......2005-08-09
Too bad volume one was never available on CD (I still have it on double vinyl, and it has a lot of early 80s club tracks that aren't easily available on CD). But this has all full length 12" versions. Track times:
1. I can't Wait (6:20)
2. Baby Love (6:30)
3. Two of Hearts (7:50)
4. Can't Live Without Your Love (6:56)
5. Point of no Return (6:27)
6. For Tonight (7:12)
7. Showing Out (7:15)
8. Diamond Girl (5:50)
9. We Connect (7:30)
Huge Disappointment.......2005-03-01
Unlike the other person who reviewed this CD, I had high expectations when I purchased this, and was sadly disappointed. The songs are all extended versions, rather than the hit radio versions. I was a huge fan in the 80's of Nu Shooz, Regina, and Stacey Q...but if you are looking for the versions you remember hearing on the radio, then you better keep looking because you won't find them here. Also, unlike the previous reviewer, I also had heard of and loved Nancy Martinez's Top 40 hit, "For Tonight" and I also used to love listening to Mel & Kim at the clubs with "Showing Out (Get Fresh at the Weekend)", but even the extended versions of those songs are not the way I remember hearing them at the clubs "back in the day." I am hanging on to this CD until I can find the original single versions of these songs, but save your money and pass on this one.
Cheesy 80's dance pop at it's tastiest.......2001-03-12
I first bought this album based on a critic's recommendation, not knowing that he was writing about Vol. 1. I liked it just fine (maybe in part because of the mistake - my mind was more open to it) and when I finally located Vol. 1, I enjoyed it even more. (It's rather odd that only 2 is still in print, especially since 1 has a much more recognizable list of artists). This is mid-80's dance pop - silly, electrobeat heavy, mindless in the best possible way, and good fun if you have a taste for the genre. You get Nu Shooz's one shining top 40 moment, their not-bad followup, Stacy Q's classic Barbie doll imitation, Regina's Madonna rip (aided and abetted by Mad's early collaborator Stephen Bray), and four other artists I've never heard of before or since (which is probably for the best). They all sound aces here, remixed and pumped up for your pleasure.
