5 out of 5 stars PUNK IS A STATE OF MIND, NOT A HAIRCUT, et cetera..........2006-09-03

Yes, maybe it's true that punks wouldn't be caught dead with flowers in their hair (What? NO DEAD FLOWERS??) , but, y'know what? Who cares! Dude, get a life! I'm sure the title's meant to be ironic. Go look up the word in the dictionary then you might have a clue. If this is your way of thinking, then it's obvious that Green Day and Offspring are what's considered punk. Jello Biafra, Willie Nelson and Noam Chomsky (all divergent people, but that's my point) could show you a thing or two hundred about the true meaning of Punk (Think of them as the Ghosts Of Punk Past or something...) .

As Jello sung back in the day: "Punk's not dead it just deserves to die when it becomes another stale cartoon..."

As far as Sandi Thom goes, man, the fact that she webcast her "3 wk long world tour" says it all. She did it her way. Not by going on Idol or resorting to the music world version of the casting couch. No. By playing her heart out. More power to her!

Just buy the CD to support such an admirable ethic that seems to be sorely lacking in today's musical climate.

5 out of 5 stars And I thought I was the cynic.......2006-08-06

As the black hole of an impending thirty-eighth birthday exerts an ever-increasing doom upon me, I find myself being a bit indifferent towards most new musicians. Then, on National Public Radio of all places, a tiny tune arose, planting a seed on the barren wastelands of my soul. What is this? my cantankerous little voice grumped. Then moments passed, and I found myself bewitched. Who was that singing backup? My god. It was me. I was actually singing along with Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker."

I guess I just happened to like the song's simple, nostalgic lyrics and instantly captivating tune. The complete lack of instruments was also intriguing. Momentarily, I had forgotten I was supposed to be the cynic. Oops.

Would I recommend that you run out and buy the song immediately? No. Music tastes are fickle. I would however recommend that you run out , run back in, and then begin scanning the airwaves for a listen. Then you can agree or disagree with my 5 star review.

As for the cynic composer's review below, I would surmise that he may well be composed of crabapples and vinegar. How would I know? I see the same composition in my mirror every morning. The difference is, that after this morning, I heard a song cool enough to turn vinegar into wine.

1 out of 5 stars she's not a punk rocker, an airhead maybe..........2006-07-12

someone needs to explain to this ignoramus that punk rockers didn't wear flowers in their hair, in fact they hated and were an extreme reaction to the whole hippie esthetic. this song is all about how great hings were in the old days, well in the old days people used to have a clue what they were writing songs about before they schmoozed themselves into a record deal, sounds like another ashley simpson here, the mystery is why it's getting played on respectable radio.

5 out of 5 stars Has the media bought our soul? .......2006-09-13

Punk rockers and hippies were both trend setters - perhaps she is speaking of the best of both times -- "in '77 and '69 revolution was in the air..." as in : Punk rocker in '77, and flowers in my hair (hippie)- in '69...?
Anyway, - very catchy song. This girl is an excellent vocalist no matter if you like the song or not. At 43 years of age new artists don't usually catch my attention, but I found myself really listening to this song and even becoming curious about the artist. Maybe because I could understand the words.

5 out of 5 stars Catchy Song.......2006-05-10

This song reminds of Gwen Stefani's Hollerback Girl. Very catchy lyrics and a simple bass line. Just a fun song. Highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars isn't it ironic.......2006-05-08

that the song lyrics espouse a return to more real values but the misleading hype about an internet webcast is anything but revolutionary or based on being real

only in this cynical marketing age... pity!

5 out of 5 stars Soooooooo Gooooooood!.......2006-04-04

Only in the age of the internet can someone web cast a concert from their basement and become a star. Sandi is a rare talent in our age. Tomorrow she will be a household "Name". Today she is the best female vocalist out there. Buy her music, you won't be sorry. Perfection, Perfection, Perfection!!

that this song is better promoted for itself rather than on the strength of PR trickery trying to capitalize on all things web-based?

it's a cynical marketing world that tries to sell us its corporate soap wrapped up with a hippy or a punk bow
