This three-disc release from Om Records coincides with the tenth anniversary of the label. They've dug deep into the vaults to provide one part house, one part downtempo, and one part classics. While the first disc gets the mix treatment from DJ Fluid, the remaining two stand on their own unmixed. Disc one features a cross section of some of the more contemporary vocal house sounds from the usual suspects, including Kaskade, Colette, Chuck Love, and Marques Wyatt. Disc two is where things start to get really interesting--the slightly more slept-on downtempo sound of the label is represented by a collection of soulful, atmospheric tracks. Tracks from all-star producers J Boogie, King Kooba, and Raasham Ahmad keep things flowing with a touch of the hip-hop vibe. Disc three covers everything from the classic Mushroom jazz track "Remember Me" to the Joshua rework of Naked Music's "It's Love." This disc is a tour de force of the tracks that have kept crowds moving for the last 10 years. Om is covering a lot of ground with these discs: veterans of the scene get a chance to fill out their collections and newcomers get to catch up on the classics. Though the tempo and style of these discs vary, the vibe doesn't waver: warm, funky, and signature Om. --Anish Acharya

4 out of 5 stars Some Serious Cali Funk.......2006-03-09

I just purchased this 3 disc set last weekend and I have been playing it non-stop in my car. My only past experience with the Om label was with Ming + FS, PUTS, and J-Boogie because I usually tried to avoid their cheese ball vocal house releases. The first disc is pretty hit or miss for me because, again I just can't get into the really pop/straight forward vocal house...but there were a few surprise tracks on that disc that I liked. Really just the Fred Everything track and the one from King Kooba. Although the ones from Uneaq and Afro-mystik are growing on me. Disc 2 is all down tempo, even a little experimental in places, and aside from the queso track from Kaskade...everything on that disc is ill. Now disc 3 (the classiscs) is not quite as dope as disc two, but very close...and J.Boogie's 'Golden Nectar' sounds like it could have been released on Ninja Tune. Even some of the house tracks on disc 3 are pushing some creative boundries. No doubt, since I am not the typical Om fan, I probably do not enjoy this compilation as much as some will, but I was seriously impressed by it.
