Almost Perfect.......2006-03-02

I say 'Almost Perfect' and give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the soundtrack is missing one vital piece: Sleep Song by Rooney in which the character Troy committed suicide to. So if you were looking for that song, there you have it. Otherwise, I find the tracks on this cd to be incredibly substantial, if not expertly compiled. Snow Patrol's Run is a definite standout. Placebo's Pure Morning along with the 3 other modern rock/alternative tracks are all very fitting of the films raw and sometimes mordibly comedic subject material. These tracks combined with the ever-magnificent work of James Horner's scoring ability ("Dolphins" and "Digging Montage" are the most impressive instrumentals in my opinion) provide for a memorable soundtrack, and one that successfully holds its sometimes obscure and somewhat melancholy mood all the way through.

This cd is something I have been looking for, for a while. I have not heard this type of house since I lived in Chicago. It totally brought my memories back, and I have been listening to the cd almost everyday now.

Very few like this guy!.......2001-08-18

There have been very few Christian artists that have moved me the way this album has. From great lyrics to an incredible voice, this guy sings from the heart and its obvious. You will not be disappointed in this CD. You'll want to get two and give one to a friend. He is very clear in who he is singing about. and who is behind the storylines; the Lord. very cool.

First-rate inspirational music.......1999-08-25

In recent memory, I have not encountered a recording that I enjoyed as much as this labor of love by Discovery House Music artist Corey Emerson. There is not a "bad" cut (a filler track, as in "just to fill space") among the 10 tracks; it's tough for me to pick a favorite. From the heartfelt, soulful ballads to the hopeful, upbeat selections, it's easy to sense that Corey has drunk of the living water in Love's (God's) pure stream. In fact he penned about half of the songs in this recording. The songs, many inspired by Holy Scripture, speak of an honest yearning for an awesome God, a recognition of His grace and mercy, gratefulness for His abiding love, a deep desire to be conformed to His image and for others to share in this hope and healing. Corey's voice is confident and assured, scaling octaves many contemporary Christian artists can only aspire to. More importantly, his musicality and empathy reveal the sincerity of a heart touched by his own message.

Do yourself a favor - buy and listen to this CD. Better yet, do your friends and loved ones a favor, and do the same for them.

Consistent with the title and lyrics of the first track "Not About Me", the artist writes in the album notes: "A very special thanks to ... my God and Savior, Jesus Christ, for granting me the privilege to use the gifts He's given me for His purposes. He gets all the glory, honor, and praise. I simply get to experience the blessing and the benefit." If I may, I would like to add a special thanks to Corey Emerson for letting us share in the sheer pleasure of listening to this gift.

I found this CD to be one great and one part a disaster. I love Pete and I have seen him in concert numberous times, which he is brilliant time and time again, and I have Pete Tong's Esential Mix (outstanding)but I have to say this MIX is a disaster. I was so dissapointed and at the end I didn't know what to make of it. It's definitely not a PACHA sound! Believe me when I tell you, you could not get the crowd going at PACHA IBIZA with this kind of mix. The mix is flawed in so many ways. For one the track Summer Moon mixed into this mix is so out of place. Doesn't do it for me.

On the other hand Sarah Main Rocked it! The fact she dropped Kerri Chandler as her opening track set the tone for what to come. A great 5 star mix and she definitely captured the PACHA sound. All I can say is that this is one worth getting solely for Sarah's Mix. She hardly ever comes out with a mix cd so this is real treat for fans.

And perhaps some of you would prefer I had gone through with that, but before we talk about that, I just had to write a review on this album. I generally don't have nor take the time to write reviews, but this album was so bad, I just needed the therapy of writing a review in the hopes I may deter another human from making the same mistake and spending money on an album that is monotonous, uninspiring, and completely lacking any interest. I love the genre, and I like the Tongcast, but this is boring - almost as boring as this review has now become.

Bold and Defiant.......2006-02-01

CD 1: 5 stars for Pete Tong! Purely dark and defiant cuts!

I totally love the first CD that was mixed by Pete Tong. The beats are hard and heavy with a sound that reminds me of the 1980's (but a little darker, and much more edgy and sophisticated). Every time I listen to this CD I am forced to dance around my house and relive my glory dayz as a punk/raver/clubkidd in the late 1990's. I had the chance to listen to this CD before I bought it, and I like it because its different. Definitely not what you would expect from Pete Tong, but I am glad to finally see a techno CD that stands out from the rest. I would recommend for the squeamish to listen before they buy, as this one isn't your average techno CD. The mixes are very well done, and the dark, hard hitting beats had me stomping joyfully around the house in no time. The second track is definitely my favorite! It reminds me of the underground afterhours club I used to frequent back in the dayz (before I sold out and moved to the suburbs lol).

CD 2: Dirty but NOT dark

As for the second CD by Sarah Main, I only listened to it once. This is mainly because I was so captivated by the first CD that it took a day or so to get the courage to try the second one. I really did not like the first track because it sounded like spanish guitar, which would have been fine for a few seconds while introducing some cool beats, but I felt the guitar played for too long (several minutes until I finally skipped ahead to the next song). Aside from that, there were some cool tracks on the second CD. I would definitely say that Sarah's style is completely different than Pete Tong's, and I really didn't like it because I felt her style is much too "light" for me. When I say "light" I am not speaking of beautiful angelic trance...I mean that every time one of the songs would start to break down and build intensity, the intensity would be interrupted by a vocal, riff, rap etc that would completely throw me off (which I found frustrating). I couldn't really get into this one because of the interruptions, I guess this one just didn't flow very smoothly for me. This is just my opinion, though. Maybe you will like it. Maybe I will change my mind if I listen to it a couple more times. Who knows?

Very dissapointing set. Definitely NOT the kind of tunes you hear in Pacha. The album is a bit "corny" except for a few tunes. A stretch from what we are used to from Pete Tong. What happened big guy??

Wasn't impressed - You may like it more than me though.......2004-06-28

I bought this CD compilation because it's one of few albums where you can find "Shiny Disco Balls" by "Who Da Funk" on it.

The 2 disc combo is a good collection of songs, however, for me, Disc 1 only had 1 good song which was "Only Time" (song #6), and Disc 2 had about 6 songs which were good. The rest aren't anything great.

I had an Amazon.com gift certificate, otherwise if it wasn't for that and this album having "Shiny Disco Balls" on it, I would have had to pass on the purchase. You can find it used on some Amazon.com merchant's sites or eBay for less.

Good Dance Music.......2004-02-05

I got this CD as a gift and I'm not a big huge dance music fanatic, but these discs have all the right moves...good tracks, good sound, excellent editing. you can party all night with this one. from Mel C's "I Turn To You" to Lasgo's "Something" this one has something for everyone. Have fun dancing the night away!

Pure Sugar's lead singer, Jennifer Starr, looks like a bodacious, sexy, lollipop vixen. Images of her in everything from Lolita-esque pigtails to black lingerie are scattered all over the blindingly neon-bubble-gum-colored liner notes. At first glance one might expect Starr's talents to be as saccharine and artificial as truckload of little pink packets. So what a delight it is to play this CD and discover that Starr has a voice as powerful, soulful, and commanding as any diva sitting in the highest court. Her vocals are highly reminiscent of Lords of Acid's Jade 4U, but smoother. Pure Sugar is 100 percent pure dance music presented in a variety of flavors. From straight-ahead disco to house and jungle, there's something here that all dance-floor devotees can suck on like a bag full of fruit-flavored hard candy. I can't believe it's "Pure sugar".......2004-01-19

This record is amazing. Not so much because the prodution shows care ,intellegence, and respect for all elements. But because this woman completly rips her heart out for you , hand's it over on a silver platter, and than thanks you at the end for giving her the pleasure of listening.I don't know where she is and how or why she left us so quickly. But it's a crime.I saw a live show in downtown l.a. at a club called "hooker" She was unbelievable.Blew all of the Pink wearing copy cats after heraway.The artwork on the album is fun and deep in an artistic statement that says "I am more than this" and yet on the album and live she backs it up.The world could use more originators and less followers in an industry where originality is so key.Jennifer Starr come back to us.We need your light!!!!!!!!

'Everybody's wonderful, everybody's beautiful' The words of a diva. This cd is FABU. Dance music at its best. True dance music, none of that 'dull soulless dance music' as Eddie Monsoon would say. Jennifer Starr has a big voice and the music to match. DIVAS TO THE DANCE FLOOR! 'Delicious' 'Hands To Heaven' etc. all great tracks. This is a true find.

If you miss Donna Summer and the old Lisa Stansfield, Pure Sugar is for you. Jennifer Starr's voice is big and beautiful. You would never know she is a little blonde girl. She has the voice and flamboyant look of a true diva. Unlike many dance artists out right now, Pure Sugar really has great songs and melodies that are unique and momorable. I highly recommend this record to anyone who loves the hard beats of dance music today, but misses the groove and melodies of seventies.

The beautifully captured reverberant sound of the acoustic space is matched by gorgeous choral balance, precise diction, and definitive interpretation. In spite of the contemporary style of the compositions - Rorem doesn't shy away from crunchy dissonances - this is a very enjoyable collection of Choral music with many beautfiul moments.
