5 out of 5 stars All about it!.......2004-06-05

This was the first album I ever heard Floater, and thus was the first time their completely unique and moving sound hit my eardrums. This album is a definite for first time listeners, as it moves everywhere from Tool like metal to an obvious affection for style somewhere in the psychedelic Pink Floyd style This band absolutely blows me away with every incarnation, and (being as I grew up in Eugene Or, their home town) I have missed seeing these songs played live But this is definitely the next best thing, engrossing, thought provoking, and fantastically sculpted, this album is an independent milestone, for a band that knows no boundaries.

5 out of 5 stars Floater.......2004-03-26

This band is my favorite bands. Just listen to them and they will grow on you!

5 out of 5 stars FLOATER / ALTER (PANTHEON 2002).......2003-08-18

A TRULY GREAT ALBUM!! I BUY MY CLOTHES WITH BIG POCKETS SO THAT I CAN CARRY IT WITH ME WHEREVER I GO. A DEFINITE MUST HAVE FOR THE DEVOTED FAN.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Few bands that are the BEST but still not Heard.......2002-06-30

This album is a different band than any you have ever heard. They swing from Hard-Hitting Metal/Acid songs like Cinema, to slow painfully sad (in a good way) songs like The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy and Clean Plastic Baby. It is awesome CD!!!! (I will be true, though, a couple of songs are like jungle beats, they are cool and everything, but they could have left those out.)

5 out of 5 stars Life Without Floater...........2002-03-27

Since I've moved across the country, I've had to suffer without being able to see Floater live. I've had to depend on my CD collection. The East coast has never heard of Floater.
I highly recommend any and all of Floaters releases. If you find one, snatch it up, it's only a matter of time when the world knows who and what Floater is all about.
Floater, native of Washington, Oregon and California drives hard notes with symphonic tones to your very core. Supplying listening satisfaction to a wide range of listeners, I would suggest this band to moshpit dwellers as well as Floyd fans.
Personal favorite: The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy and Crawl to you from the Glyph CD.
Fourty Thumbs Up!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Band.......2002-12-20

For a young band they sound pretty good, nice and raw. I've seen them live in San Francisco and some of their new stuff has evolved into more of a Hives or Vines sound. I recommend it.

    4 out of 5 stars Foo-Fighters Meets Kitty.......2002-08-16

Just purchased this album and have listened to it several times in the past two days. They have a Foo Fighters meets Kitty type sound. The chick singer and the ruff guitar make it pretty kickass.

5 out of 5 stars With a glowing endorsement from vibist Joe Locke . . ........2005-01-31

. . . certainly one of the greatest vibraphonists ever, these guys get a huge initial boost. Locke calls them "the strongest vibes-based trio I've ever heard." Entirely deserved, from the evidence presented on this, their debut disc, I might add. They've also managed to snag Randy Brecker on trumpet and rising guitar star Vinny Valentino for several numbers.

Shifting easily between funk, Latin, bop, jazz beat, and beyond--sometimes within the same number (check out the astounding "La Essencia del Guanguanco")--these guys have a sound signature entirely their own: hip, fluid, drenched in the history of the music, but always searching and transformative, never static. Further proof: their jaw-dropping take on the Beatles' "Fool on the Hill" and Ellington's "Caravan"--barely recognizable and too cool for words.

A good deal of the credit must go to John Benitez, an absolute monster on acoustic and electric bass, and Steve Hass, who brings a punkish, David King-like jazz-trash sensibility to the proceedings--entirely apposite in this wildly eclectic setting.

Listen, these guys are the real deal. I expect to hear a lot more from them in the near future. Highest recommendation.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Talent Slightly Inhibited.......2006-06-16

Having been lucky enough to see Jessie Murphy perform many of these songs live in an intimate bar, I felt she was slightly inhibited on this EP. She has a lively and exuberant personality which is somewhat dampened here. The songs however are excellent and she will certainly go far. Buy this - but see her live too.

5 out of 5 stars Not to be missed.......2005-12-11

Murphy is here to stay. A clear talent who rises above the pack of newcomers this year. Her voice has a rare complexity to it, her lyrics are resonant, her guitar excellent. This is music you can listen to over and over again. I'll be looking out for her next CD.

5 out of 5 stars Real Life Music.......2005-12-05

Room Alone is one of the best things to come out of 2005 -- Since I've had this record, I don't think it has gone a day without being played start to finish on my iTunes. it isn't often enough that top-notch guitar skills are coupled with such honest and intelligent songwriting, but that's what you get with this EP. The sweetness and intimacy of each song is accompanied by confidence and sharp wit, all of which contain vivid impressions of life and love in New York City. Such balance is evident throughout the record... If you're feeling sentimental, you can sit peacefully on the subway with headphones and let it directly into your blood, or you can blast it at a party if you need to get people onto the dance floor in a hurry. It does it all.

            5 out of 5 stars Jessie Murphy's "Room Alone" is a winner!.......2005-12-02

Jessie Murphy is the real thing! She is a poet/composer and a singer/communicator. She plays the guitar with extraordinary feeling and effortless skill. Her interpretation of blues/rock comes with hues of deep purple and streaks of vibrant orange. She will move you from melancholic to blissful and you'll end up in a good place for having really listened. Don't miss the "Room Alone" CD. It's a treat. Buy extras as holiday gifts for your coolest friends.
