4 out of 5 stars so good, so short.......2003-10-04

if you're a fan of plaid you'll be a fan of this disc. 'scoobs' IS an updated version of 'scoobs in columbia' with its sassy latin flair. 'eph' IS a different take on 'seph' off 'not for threes'. However 'bo bootch' and 'cold' are TWO tracks I've never heard before. 'bo bootch' is a cool, hip-hoppish beat laden track. the outstanding track for me is 'cold'. I don't know what the music fan from Londonberry NH is talking about but there IS NOT a track called 'ol' on 'not for threes' and 'cold' DOES NOT sound like anything I've ever heard plaid do before. 'cold' is pure late night minimal trance, something plaid (as far as I'm aware) has never done before. the type of stuff i used to dance to when i was a raver. pulsating synths and a steady 4/4 beat then this skipping CD percussion slips in the track but done in a way that at first you think the disc is skipping. for that track alone this disc is worth picking up. if anyone out there knows of other artists who do music that sounds remotely close to what plaid has done with 'cold', email me and let me know. i've tried monolake but they're too repetitious with very little rhythmic progression. i only wish there was at least one more track similar to 'cold' on this release. overall, very good stuff for those new or old to plaid.

5 out of 5 stars clearing the air a bit.......2001-06-09

this is an excellent ep, those interested should check out the rest of the warp "peel sessions" series (particularly the black dog sesh). only one of these tracks is really "previously unreleased", though. "scoobs" is an updated version of "scoobs in columbia" (which can be found on the "trainer" lp), "cold" is simply a slightly reworked take on "ol" from "not for 3's" and "eph" is an expanded version of the filler track "seph", also from "not for 3's". "bo bootch" is the real diamond in the rough, the two "not for three's" tracks being slightly less interesting than their album counterparts, and is well worth the price for that track alone. may not sound like a 5star review, but anything by plaid (especially live) is worth chasing down.

5 out of 5 stars Fun for me.......2001-03-19

This disk is nothing but pure fun. This is a little masterpiece. "Scoobs" sounds a lot like "Scoobs From Columbia" and the last track sounds a lot like a track from "Not For Threes". The last one has good techno, the first one fun percussion, and the two other ones R just pure fun Plaid-tracks.

Love Plaid. Looking forward to their next release.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious, crunchy and satisfying.......2000-10-12

Four exclusive tracks from Plaid on this EP are reason enough to buy this Peel session - these tracks are not available elsewhere, not even on the new "Trainer" 2xcd (although the excellent "Scoobs" IS derived from "Scoobs in Columbia", originally from their first album and available on "Trainer"). This Peel Session was broadcast on the BBC in 1998, and seems to naturally mark the progression between "Not For Threes" and the more organic "Rest Proof Clockwork". And of course... all four tracks are crunchy, bleepy, glitchy fun... as you would expect from these guys. Yum!

      5 out of 5 stars I love Plaid........1999-07-20

This wasn't what I expected. But it's still great. 'Cold' is another prime example of Plaid's vast musical multi-talent. Scoobs has an odd sample of some spanish music. a nice dancy piano. . . Go buy plaid.

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Benassi did not disappoint!.......2004-06-11

Well, what could I say? After "Hypnotica" I was expecting something really good. And Benny Benassi did not disappoint. These double CD's are full of marvellous house tunes. I have to admit sometimes it gets boring (especially towards the end of each CD - this is for hard house lovers). However, there are several tracks that are worth checking out. Benny Benassi fans will find his new single "Turn Me Up" feat. Azibiza. This track is just so crazy!!! If you liked "Hypnotica" and you like easy-listening house music that makes you want to dance - you should get this CD. 5 stars - Benny - Good Job!!!

        5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece.......2004-05-28

This double CD set is probably the best out there. It's at least the best I have heard on CD. These two discs blow away all others. It's not particularly what I would consider to be in the "hardcore tech" category (most would probably call this house), but it is definitely no where near cheesy or soft. The vocals are really cool; they very much keep with the theme of what high-techno is all about, and sometimes they even give me goose bumps. My advice: purchase and enjoy over-and-over. I will however, offer a small warning to the other heterosexual males out there: you may find the back cover and inside jacket somewhat offensive (revealing Speedo and bubble bath shots, and yes he's bigger than you).

5 out of 5 stars Friggin Blinding !.......2003-06-26

Geez these two CDs of Techno (CD1) and Electro/disco/funky/techno (CD2) are some of the greatest mixes. Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin are the greats but Tiga is your future.
I'll finish this review with a quote from the liner notes.

"Back from the future, to save the past ..."

        Thank you Tiga.

        5 out of 5 stars Montreal Dj's Rules.......2002-03-09

Please, if you are a real techno fan and love your techno hard but not monotonous, groovy but not cheesy, you have to pick up this double-cd masterpiece. The cd1 is staight bangin techno but with a lot of twist and direction changes to keep you alert. Amazin first cd! But just when you think he couldnt do better, he gives u his bonus cd of disco-electro-techno soundin like it came out from the 80's. Just mindblowin and i have listened to a lot of mix cd compilation from all the best out there, but you can now but Tiga and without any shame...right next to your Ritchie Hawtin "Decks and Effects", Carl Cox "Mixed Live at CroBar" or Jeff Mills "Live at Tokyo Bar" cds. Mixed Emotion is so diverse and powerfull, believe me on this one, pick it up, this is a no brainer... Also im from Montreal, and Tiga is a pionner in the techno scene out here...Enjoy!

        5 out of 5 stars nice........2001-07-17

the fact that i am even writing a review is enough to tell you that this cd rocks harder. because i'm lazy as a sloth that eats .... the techno cd (disc 1) is amazing- the first thing to come out that's worth a ... since ritchie hawtin's "decks, EFX, & 909". i have waited over a year for this cd. AND THEN... just when you think you mind has been blown to its capacity, you check out disc 2. which i assumed would be cheesey & hoaky. NOT AT ALL! the 2nd cd comes through as much as the first. and what a value. you get 2 cd's for under $..., that i would pay $15/each for, anyway. .... even the cd cover art is fantastic....

5 out of 5 stars an excellent techno 80's sound.......2001-05-17

The first time I hear the CD I was underwhelmed, but it has grown on me so much I can't turn it off. The second CD in particular has music reminiscent of Prince, Depeche Mode, and Bronski Beat, except more club-like. I recommend this CD to all dance music fans.

5 out of 5 stars Gettin' jacked up on Toronto Mix Sessions.......2002-05-02

I threw in Kenny's tech-house CD while driving to Montreal this past weekend to hear him play. It gets me so jacked up no matter what time of day, no matter where I am.
Flying by speed radar, I couldn't stop moving my hands and bouncing in my seat. Though Kenny's live show that night at Aria didn't feature any of the vocals that add such distiction to his mix, it was well worth the 5-hour drive from hometown Toronto and, even after hours of listening in the car and hours of dancing at the club, I still felt like I hadn't got enough of Kenny.

Canadian-based Turbo Records excels at tapping the vast pool of lesser-acclaimed dance talent, and you're practically guaranteed a quality performance from their Mix Sessions series regardless of DJ familiarity Stateside.

Kenny Glasgow's been spinning north of the border since 1992, finally laying down his first live mix. Coasting through funky techno and house, he proves a standout in molding different styles of dance to his vision. Playful Martini Bros "Babyhaze" leads to Si Begg's robo-scorcher "Welcome to the Discoteque", fembot diatribe "Flexibility" from Miss Kittin & The Hacker segues into shimmering return-of-new-wave "Panamericana" merging with Senor Coconut's bleepundklang "Showroom Dummies."

In fact, only Anthony Rother's rigidly Germanic "Simulationszeitalter" proves a stretch in an otherwise standout set of warm bump and thump for all-areas listening, with enough salacious juice to go down at a party. Well done.
