5 out of 5 stars AN AMAZING REMASTERED ELO COLLECTION..................2006-11-25

This cd collection of Elo greatest hits is not in chronological order, but it really does'nt matter. There are some edited versions of songs but I really believe Jeff Lynn put alot of care into this remastered gem. These two cds sounds so awesome that the edits really don't take alot out of this collection. Jeff Lynn believed each Elo song should be treated like a single, each single given the time and effort and care to make each single song stand out in it's own way, weather you love or hate the song, Jeff Lynn had that philosophy. This Elo collection defines that Jeff Lynn philosophy. I listen to this collection and I am just amazed at the skill and craftmanship of Jeff Lynn and Elo. Jeff truly is one of Englands greatest single hit makers. This collection is better than the Elo box sets that have been released in the last 16 or so years. the sound quality of these cds is incredibly pristine. This music may sound like gooey 1970s bubblegum music to some, but to me it is amazingly creative structured music that is catchy with rythm and spiritual form. I have to admit when I hear some of these Elo songs I have to crack a smile. Jeff Lynn and the rest of Elo put alot of pride into each song they ever created, this collection shows that. A true must have for Elo fans and music fans in general. The remastering on this cd set is incredible. Note: Jeff Lynn in 1994-1995 engineered for the three remaining Beatles at the time with "Free as a bird" and "True Love", this shows you the respect even the remaining Beatles had for Jeffs amazing talent.............

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST ELO GREATEST HITS COLLECTION.......2006-05-26

This collection is well worth it. I Highly recommend "LIGHT YEARS" to any fan of the Electric Light Orchestra. The amount of songs compaired to other compilations is hard to beat.

4 out of 5 stars Catchy pop with classical touches.......2004-10-29

Electric Light Orchestra was one of the UK's most consistent and successful bands of the 1970s. They had a long string of hits throughout that decade and the first part of the next one. Their sound was characterised by plush harmonies, loads of strings and catchy tunes. These 38 tracks include the overwhelming majority of their hits from the 1970s and the early 1980s plus some great album tracks. My favourites include Livin' Thing with its captivating fiddle, the addictive Sweet Talkin' Woman, the rousing Turn To Stone and others like Wild West Hero Don't Bring Me Down, Mr Blue Sky and 10538 Overture. It may sound like lightweight pop, but it is a skilfully honed, intelligent and cleverly produced style with classical flourishes that always remained accessible. If you like catchy pop with a touch of the orchestral, this album's for you.

5 out of 5 stars A GREAT Album, but...............2004-01-08

Again this is one of ELO's best, with ALOT of their best songs on it, but if you paid the " outragious " price here that Amazon is charging you, then you've been royally ripped off.....sorry.FYE's is selling this same album for $24.00 and change. It is a good album though.

4 out of 5 stars Entrancing stuff.......2001-08-12

My,my,what a diverse taste in music I have.Part of it extends to this heavily enjoyable assortion of superb musical numbers.Particular favourites include the funky, fusion noted number Evil Woman, the jolty, unforgettable Mr.Blue Sky,the brilliant Last Train to London and the heavy bass number Confusion.Born, bred and based in Birmingham myself,it makes me proud such musical talent could emerge from my home city.Definitely one of the best bands of the '70's,and significantly make us remember the decade.I thoroughly recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty nice collaboration........2007-07-05

This is one of the funkiest bands of all time in my opinion. I really do love the SOS Band. They made some very nice tunes back in the day, especially when they hooked up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. That's the best thing they could've ever did. Songs like "Do you still care, Weekend Girl and Just be good to me" still stands out to me to this day. Those are timeless classics and i still jam them ocassionally. I wish the record labels would go on and release all of this group's individual albums on cd. I would still like to have the title cd "Just the way you like it". I just recently got a hold of their cd title "On the Rise". It cost me a nice penny, but it was worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the S.O.S. Band..........2007-05-06

Although this collection is NOT as varied as their "Greatest Hits" CD, this CD does boast the full-length versions of the following:

1. take your time (do it right) 7:39
2. Just be good to me 9:03
3. Weekend girl 5:39

I paid $14/US for the disc. Great songs! Great value, as I paid $14/US for a new disc. Five stars!!

5 out of 5 stars SOS Band is one of the greatest R &B groups of the 80's.......2003-11-15

Every time I hear this album or any other SOS album it blows my mind all over again! The first song I ever heard of theirs was "Tell me if you still care" and I was hooked. I can't believe that more of their albums have not been re-released on CD. I mean can we talk about jams like, "Sands of Time", "No Lies", "Weekend Girl", "Just Be Good To Me", the list can go on and on. I grew up around the corner from Flyte Tyme Studios and was lucky enough to get Sands of Time on CD, don't pass this up!

Album Description

Produced by Jason Rotem, the sizzling 'S.O.S.' is bringing the summer heat early this year. With its hypnotic beat and enticing melody, 'S.O.S.' utilizes the electro-funk of Soft Cell's '80s classic 'Tainted Love' to create a soulful anthem of young love. Title track is backed by the instrumental version, music video and the track 'Break It Off' featuring Sean Paul. Universal. 2006.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Off The Charts Dance Music To Get In A Funk!.......2007-02-04

As the world of musicians keep rising and the competition is fierce then a young artist from Barbados steps in bringing a nice blend of R&B plus funk and a nice hip-hop sounds with some Spanish and Caribbean twists.

SOS Radio Edit [produced by J.R.] has quick energetic beats sure to get you in the mood to feel uplifted or ready to dance. Rihanna's voice is excellent in sound, as she has a nice pleasant sound not harsh or annoying on the ears. The heavy bass with the thumping beats make this a dance club party sensation.

SOS Instrumental has no vocals and is the same song as the previous track. Huge club fanatics may find this to be a fabulous track since the banging bass-lines bring many elements of the nights at the club and the sound has more vibes of the Hot Cell's original "Tainted Love".

Break It Off Featuring Sean Paul is my favorite track since the addition of Sean Paul has an appealing effect. His singing adds a spice of infectious dance grooves quite addictive. The beats are energetic, fast, and very much in synch with both Sean Paul's and Rihanna's singing.

5 out of 5 stars S.O.S........2006-12-21

I like what Rihanna has done with Soft Cell's "Tainted Love." It's a bouncy, fresh, new approach to a classic New Wave/Pop song!!

5 out of 5 stars LISTEN UP PEOPLE!!!! THIS SONG IS GOOD!!!.......2006-08-30

You guys DIDN'T know that you /can/ buy songs from people, or SOMEBODY ELSE wrote them? You know that other person who created the beat may have not mixed the beat. It was somebody else (the mixer) and after like 15 years or something, she /can/ use the beat again!

Other than that, S.O.S is a really great, dancehall song that is perfect to dance to, and when your depressed, listen to S.O.S and you will get on your feet!

5 out of 5 stars Best. Song. Ever........2006-07-14

I am sick of hearing about people complaining that SOS is unoriginal, like everything else today, and plain degrading to the music industry. Well, I'm sorry to dissapoint thoses people, but I am here to say that in MY opinion, SOS is the best song ever, even if it does FEATURE the music from Tainted Love.
I admit, the song would not be as good if it didn't contain the music from Tainted Love, but Rihanna has found a new way to use it, and added a fresh new tune to it, creating one hot track. And yes, I know Rihanna did not write SOS.
Christina Millan (Don't care for the spelling) was a twit to turn down this song, sending her carrer down the drain. Rihanna deserves all the praise she can handle, and I can't wait for her furture work.
So please don't beleive the people who degrade this song, because they obviously have no REAL taste in music. SOS is not a song like every other today, it is better.

1 out of 5 stars how irritating.......2006-06-11

I heard this little musical irritant a few weeks ago while browsing in the Virgin store on 14th street in NYC. The store apparently doesn't care about its customers very much because they were blasting this at a very high volume, forcing you to listen to it. Or, perhaps I should say, they don't care very much about customers who like good music. Which is very sad.

Anyway, listening to this, right away, I recognized the sample/theft of Soft Cell's Tainted Love, a song that was a hit many years ago. The other thing I noticed was that the "song" that was layered on top of the sample had no noticable melody whatsoever. Apparently, there are only a handful of competent songwriters inhabiting the music industry.

I wound up leaving the store annoyed, because by blasting this piece of noise pollution, instead of something decent, the store, like the music industry today as a whole, made me, a serious music fan, feel like an old curmugeon. I don't see myself that way, but this kind of junk brings out my irritated side.

This is to music what "bling-bling" is to fine jewelry; it's more entertainment for the dumb masses marketed to the masses in all the usual and predictible ways.

A collection of music in the vein of the "O Brother" and "Down From The Mountain" albums - but these are original artists or vintage recordings. Includes two very different versions each of "O Death" and "I'm A Man Of Constant Sorrow."

5 out of 5 stars original/vintage versions of songs from the soundtrack.......2002-06-17

Here are many of the songs from the "O Brother Where Art Thou" and "Down from the Mountain" CDs, performed either by the original artists or in vintage renditions, as well as other great songs in the "roots and blues" vein. An interesting and enjoyable comparison/companion to the soundtrack albums.

In many respects, Lily Pons was the Galli-Curci of her generation: a winning combination of good looks, charm, an appealing and non-confrontational timbre, and easy facility in the stratosphere. Those who learned the "Mad Scene" from Lucia di Lammermoor or the "Bell Song" from Lakmé via the original 78s back in the 40s will be bowled over by the vivid detail and lack of background noise in these stunning Sony restorations. First-time listeners will marvel at her effortless passagework and high notes (she often transposed her arias up on records); but may be put off by a slight thinness in the middle register (not evident in her Odeon recordings from the late 20s), sketchy intonation at times, and expedient aspirating in downward scales. Although these selections encompass a gamut of stylistic and emotional contrasts, you'd scarcely know it from the singer's pleasant but characterless interpretations, which tickle the ear without quite racking the brain. --Jed Distler

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.......2007-07-09

This could have been recorded yesterday, the sound quality is excellent and without blemish. By far the best recordings of Pons I have, and I would like to have others. She reminds me of Jo, separation of notes, clear, real trills, a range to rival Sumac, flexibility to perfection, and always that today neglected once standard fare of the coloratura, the requisite leap to the top note at the end of an aria. And a pretty sound. I love this album.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Some of the most memorable music from Inuyasha.......2006-07-27

This is the second cd of Inuyasha music. I recommend this music to any and all fans of Inuyasha. Anyone who has seen more then a few episodes of the show will reckognize some,if not all of these tracks. They are,in my opinion, beautiful. One thing I like about Inuyasha music is the lack of words. A few songs on this cd do have words in japanese, but the majority of songs lack lyrics. These songs are so very beautiful and it is easy for me to be moved by some.

The true beauty of this cd is being able to match certain songs to key events in the show. I feel if you can reckognize what was happening in the show at the time a certain song played, you understand what it means more clearly. You are able to understand what emotions the songs are trying to convey more clearly. I love some of these songs because they spark different emotions in me. Some make me feel confident, others sad, and other happy.

My favorite tracks on this cd are 4,5,23,and 29. I ask any true fan of Inuyasha to listen to these songs and you'll soon realize why I like them so much. The price is way too much in my opinion, so I got this cd somewhere else. I recommend buying this from somewhere else at a much cheaper price. If you are a true fan of Inuyasha then buy this cd and I think you'll enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars The Best!.......2005-08-08

I've been looking for a CD of music from InuYasha TV series. And this was well worth it. Worth maybe 6 stars!

5 out of 5 stars ^_^ WOW!!!!!! ^_^.......2005-02-25

Amazing CD, one of the best Inu Yasha OST Cds yet if ya ask me.
Though, I'm not discrediting the first and second ones, those are really good too.
The music on here is very meaningfull to the series, you just find yourself reminesing on the halarious parts of the series, the sad parts, the romantic parts, and every one's favo parts, THE VIOLENT SCENES!
It's really worth it to buy this CD, You'll love it, Inu fan or not.
Okay, so, " I am (TV size)" Is VERY VERY VERY Jumpy.
too much jumpy.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much jumpy.
yet, the recorded version is adorable, and I found my day's not compelete with out hearing the recorded version of it.
Okay, before I start ranting, I'll just put,
"IT IS WORTH IT! YOU'LL LOVE THIS CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

4 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!.......2004-11-28

This CD is very good!!! Any InuYasha fan should get it. It is very exspensive on this website but still you will be glad if you buy this. You can get this for $10 at another website.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome music.......2004-11-21

Even if you're all, "Inu-wha?" this is still some excellent music. True, it is even more fun to listen to if you've seen the anime, but the quality of this soundtrack cannot be denied. Some tracks are action-packed, some are beautiful, and some have an almost Stravinsky-esque feel to them, and all the instrumental tracks have an orchestra with *real* instruments. Oh, and the CD liner notes have lots of pretty pictures and a few tidbits if you can read Japanese.

I'm a bit bewildered as to why Amazon has it so expensive, though. You can get it for half the price, easily, through z-Shops or other import sites.

3 out of 5 stars "Take Your Time" because this one can be a yes or a no.......2007-06-25

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.

Evangelos Papathanassiou may not be a household name but what about Vangelis? To most, his claim to fame is the amazing success of the 1981 song "Chariots Of Fire" from the film of the same name. To fans of psychedelic and progressive music, his resume is much longer and substantial.

Vangelis was part of a psychedelic band whose metamorphosis into progressive rock territory in 1971 gave the world a stunning accomplishment with the "666" album.

"It's Five O' Clock" although a year removed from "666" could be centuries. The nine tracks are the recording are short and all based around a psychedelic sound. While it is interesting to hear a different phase of the band the lyrical and musical direction had not arrived at their pinnacle. This isn't to say there aren't catchy tunes. The title and opening track has a tasty keyboard presentation from Vangelis. "Let Me Love, Let Me Live" sounds similar to Traffic's "Hole In My Shoe."

The music contained on "It's Five O' Clock" is pleasant but may not satisfy your craving for adventure. Vangelis will more then quench your appetite on "666" and the numerous solo keyboard based albums over the years. In fact, if you are interested his long time friend Jon Anderson from Yes does a vocal appearance on the brilliant song "So Long Ago So Clear" found on Vangelis's 1974 album "Cosmos" and a myriad of compilations.

Enjoy the music and be well,
    Craig Fenton

4 out of 5 stars hot album! except...........2005-05-17

I love this chick, her voice is awesome...but, i was shocked when I heard the single "It's My Time" because it is nearly exactly like Angie Stone's "Lovers Ghetto"...same sample or something? Oops! I like Terri Walker's version better, but it's pretty bad that they sound so similar. Find out for yourself!

    5 out of 5 stars I L.O.V.E this CD.......2005-04-03

This album was worth the wait. Her voice is full and strong, yet soft and supple at times, and not as raspy as the first album. I enjoy this album after one listen. I wish that she were more popular in the America because she would be able to come here and do shows. I have been fortunate enough to see her "live" on the Internet, which does not come close enough to the real thing.

I've been listening to Tony's "Mariner" and "Whispering Seas" for years; I never get tired of hearing them. Tony's music takes you to a world of peace and serenity, and "Memento" is no exception. Listen to "Memento" a few times, and it will grow on you.
