Description
The Stunning new album from Tangerine Dream. Tangerine Dream celebrates their 40th Anniversary in 2007 with the release of their latest album -'Madcap's Flaming Duty'. The album is dedicated to former Pink Floyd guitarist Syd Barrett who died in July 2006. The lyrics for each of the songs on the new album are adapted from English and American poets from 17th and 18th century literature by Bianca F. Acquaye. The music is written by Edgar Froese and Thorsten Quaeschning. This recording is dedicated to the influential spirit of a legendary musical mind, Syd Barrett, who had to end his present incarnation in summer 2006.

And Now for Something Completely Different.......2007-06-24
As other reviewers have pointed out, Tangerine Dream is an old and very prolific group that has put out over a hundred albums that span a wide range of musical styles. With masterpieces like Phaedra and Rubycon under their belt, sometimes it's just too easy to dismiss the rest of their work as uninspired product, ignoring quality work that doesn't fit the same mold.
Occasionally TD does a "voice" album, and, truth be told, I tend to skip the lyrical songs when they crop up in my player. They aren't necessarily bad, but they're not what draws most people to TD. Imagine a well-known comedy actor doing a "serious" role and you more or less get the picture--even if it's done well, you can't help but think it's just wrong.
However, with Madcap's Flaming Duty, I was shocked to find myself putting the album on repeat play. First off, the instrumental work here is impressive, but it's really the lyrics and the vocals that make this album work. The lead singer's voice complements the instrumentals rather than overpowering or distracting from it. Furthermore, the lyrics are some of the best I've heard (and yes, I know they're adapted from old poetry and literature).
The album reminds me at times of some diverse groups, such as VNV Nation, Peter Schilling, later Depeche Mode, and Peter Murphy. It's soulful stuff that's quite inspirational, with only the occasional "muzak" flourish to make you wince (TD seems to struggle sometimes to avoid sounding like elevator music, especially when a saxophone is involved).
"Shape My Sin," "A Dream of Death" and "Lake of Pontchartrain" really stand out to me as the best songs on the album. These are catchy songs that I've been unable to get out my head since I first heard them. I was really surprised to hear such fine voice work from a TD album; it makes me wonder if they haven't found a new direction--though I also find their new "Blue Dawn" album a new high point in their career. It's exciting to be a Tangerine Dream fan again!
If only 6 stars was possible.......2007-05-25
I am not surprised to see reviews ranging from 3-5 for this album. As more reviews come in, I expect to see a few 1's from the die-hard fans. However, in my humble opinion, this is the best TD release since the early 80's and contains my new all time favorite track (Burning Babes Reality Song). This song was previously released as Earthlings Reality on Metaphor with keyboards from Edgar and Thorsten and vocals from Chris. I think this new singer is absolutely great and could easily fit into any group. I do admit something that helps boost my score and that is that I have the DVD/CD version of this which contains videos for the whole album...some just performance and some combination of performance and artistic. If noone else has seen the video, it is nice to see the group perform as there is a lot of guitar, cello, violin and analog drums. Even Thorsten sings on a couple of tracks.
I really hope people give this a chance. I don't like every TD album and certainly not everything they do with vocals but this is a 5 star gem easily.
"She oped the door, she drew me in....".......2007-05-08
Tangerine Dream (TD) has been with us for 40 years. Wow, that is a lot of time (man, I'm getting old). Like other fans, I have most of the CD's, DVD's, etc., etc. I recently got my 2 DVDs celebrating the 35th Phaedra Concert Anniversary and the 40th Tangerine Dream Concert Anniversary. Both DVDs are a great resume of TD history (70's, 80's, 90's and New Millennium). Then I got Madcap's Flaming Duty (MFD) CD. What can I say?. It was totally unexpected for me. The music is great but the voice, I don't know. But at the end this events are the ones that makes TD unique. Edgar Froese, as a great artist he is, is always reinventing himself and he is showing it with this new release. So, after listening to MFD few times it started to grow in me. Even my kids are already singing it. As for this moment, I think that the best track is the fifth one; "A Dream Of Death". So, just after the "Their faith the dead and living plight..." Linda Spa plays her flute and the magic starts to grow, then the guitars come along, and, wow, what a great track!!!....
Yes, definitely it is starting to grow in me...
Greetings from Mexico City.
After 40 years Tangerine Dream morphs it's style again........2007-05-01
Every decade it seems Tangerine Dream releases an album that alienates fans because singing never fit well with their style. In the 70's it was Cyclone which even founder Edgar Froese brushed off in an interview as "just an experiment".In the 80's there was poetry set to music in Tyger an oddly schizophrenic album with half sung poetry and half instrumental tracks.Tyger though is an interesting predercesser to this album which boldly forges ahead with all vocal songs like it or not.The good news is that most of the songs are a mesmerizing blend of vocals and music that bring to mind Pink Floyd. The bad news is that poetry doesn't always gel with the music and the vocalist is good but not quite David Gilmour.Edgar's son Jerome is absent but TD's new member Thorsten Quaeshning has revitalized the group since Jeanne D'Arc,the long instrumental middle of track 5 is brillant. There's even a surprisingly good Irish song(!) and a hypnotic Depeche Mode like final song.Like their Dante trilogy this isn't for all tastes but they deserve credit for continuing to evolve and try new approaches to music. How much you like it is a matter of taste but it's still a bold musthave for all TD fans.
Get the DVD/CD release of it........2007-04-28
Mindblowing, mystical, romantic, and brilliant. Can't stop playing it. Been a big fan since 1981... this one is one of my favourites ever and is easily the best TD album with vocals.... easily.

GREAT ALBUM, GREAT BAND, SO WHY NOT GREAT RE-RELEASE?.......2006-07-24
There is no question in the power of Devo's music, philosophy or art (especially in "Duty For The Future"), however this edition of the recording is quite lackluster considering a previous version of "Duty" far out weighs it. The Infinite Zero label (reissue label ran by Henry Rollins) produced a quality re-mastered version sporting two great bonus tracks (Soo Bawls, Penetration In The Centerfold) with lyrics to boot. The release here features no extra tracks, on lyrics, and adding to the insult a weak re-mastering (if any at all). The CD sleeve itself consists of a single 4.75" X 4.75" paper square. The original vinyl gave you more than that.
If you wonder why the album hasn't been repackaged by reissue titans at Rhino, consider the fact that the company who put this one together is actually a subsidiary of Rhino Records; Collectable recordings. Quite a shame, actually.
My advice is that if you are new to this recording, pick it up because the price isn't that high for it. But if you'd like to have quality experience of a great work, seek out the Infinite Zero copy if you can find it (because it's out of print, of course). Or try purchasing the import version by Virgin records which has this album backed with another Devo classic "New Traditionalists".
Devo Most Representative Work.......2006-05-22
This album is truly unique and is brilliant. The songs are purely Devo. A picture of the future in all its glory. Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA is the purest Devo statement and is balanced by a treasure trove where everything hit its stride. If you want the most melodic and smartest albums buy this and Hardcore #1.
Enter the World of Devo.........if you dare!.......2006-04-24
One of my top 10 favorite albums of the 70's. There is no other album anything like this one. Well, maybe perhaps Devo's 1st, but I still prefer this album. Almost a Theme album with each song having Devo's signature craziness stamped all over it. How much more insane does a song have to get than 'Pink Pussycat'. How nasty and irresistibly creepy is 'The Day my Baby Gave me a surprise', telling the tale of a hospital bound boy with horrific injuries being given the joy of a baby boy by his girlfriend who can't bear to look at him. 'Wahooo-ooooooo-oooooooh!' indeed. 'Secret Agent Man' is a great catchy remake whilst 'Smart-Patrol/Mr. DNA' is the best thing on this record. This track is Devo's very own unique creation and the sheer verve and excitement of it really draws you into their unique world. 'Red-Eye Express' shows you how to build a very simple record with just one fantastic hook, that hook being a helicopter like rotating beat that leads into a true New Wave Classic. Fantastic use of earlyish Synth technology it's a perfect mix of guitar's and electronic music. They were a highly innovative and influential band. This album was possibly 'Devo's' last hurrah as they never really made anything as good as this again, save a few singles and the obvious 'Whip It' single. This whole album tells a story completely unique to itself. Make no doubt about it 'Devo' were more revolutionary than most self-professed punk bands and between this and their 1st album they could do no wrong. Perhaps someone could explain to me how 'Devo' songs always seemed to end up on 'Heavy Metal' album compilations. This album I think would surprise a lot of people and shows what Devo were really all about. They lived and breathed their own world through their music and anyone who might have had a passing interest in Devo but never got past 'Whip It', well then you should really pick up this & their 1st album. I think you'd be amazed.
Classic.......2006-02-20
I got this very cheap at a record shop and play it all the time,.If you are new to devo this is a good start.
Devo's best work.......2006-01-24
I think "Duty Now for the Future" is Devo's most creative album period. Although my favorite Devo song, "Shrivel Up," was released on the band's debut album in 1978, "Duty Now for the Future" (as a whole) is Devo's very best album. Devo's raw energy and precision are both equally present in this album. When ever I feel like enjoying a full-length album by Devo I always seem to reach for "Duty Now." Devo's first album was a great one but "Duty Now for the Future" flows perfectly from "Corporate Anthem" to "Red Eye Express." If you don't own a copy of this Devo gem and you like art music and/or original punk, you just might want to add this album to your collection.

Only completists on a budget and gullible nerds need apply.......2006-01-01
Neither of these are strong albums, and even at half the price this double disc just isn't worth it with such solid collections available.
If you want to check out what these albums have to offer without the chaff go for the anthology, or the hits/misses collections if you'd like to catch some of the quirkier tracks as well.
Even the packaging sucks. It's Devo! Where's the gimmicky album art and liners to distract me from all the unlistenable parts?
a good way to catch up on some lesser known Devo.......2005-07-27
"Duty Now for the Future" was one of the Spud Boys' lesser-known, but great albums, and "New Traditionalists" has a few good moments. While "Duty" didn't have as many memorable songs as the group's debut, "Q: Are We Not Men..." it showed that the men of Devo were darn good songwriters. Many of the tracks on "Duty" became beloved concert favorites, like "Blockhead" and "Triumph of the Will," to name a couple. "S.I.B." is as creepy-sounding a song as Devo would write, but one can hear a definite influence the band had on the Pixies through this track. The later half of the album is really what is ear candy, though. The deranged pop of "The Day My Baby Gave Me a Surprise" features a hook that doesn't even sound anything like "typical" Devo, yet will remain implanted in your skull, and of course there is the cover of "Secret Agent Man," which is one of the few instances of a cover version surpassing the original. "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA" flat out rocks. Very recommended.
"New Traditionalists" was merely a good Devo album. The songs were catchy as ever, but lyrics-wise, they didn't really have the same kick to them as the earlier records. "Through Being Cool" is really the only track that has staying power here.
two great albums on one CD!.......2004-07-08
Yay! I can't believe this -- there are others here who think "Duty Now for the Future" is better than "Are We Not Men" also! I'm not the only one! Finally.
You see, Ken Scott didn't make the production "murkier," as some reviewers claim. He just made it more INTERESTING. Of course, I love "Are We Not Men" -- a complete classic from start to finish. But this album is just more interesting, more fun, more well made -- heck, even the instrumentals "Devo Corporate Anthem" and "Timing X" are spectacular. Everytime "Anthem" starts up, I always get a feeling that something special is going to happen. And I'm always correct.
"Clockout" is one of the best Devo songs, EVER. It doesn't have the traditional verse/chrous/verse template as other songs... it's an odd listen at first, but it will grow on you like ... fungus. Or something. It's got some kicka** guitar and the lyrics are Devo at it's best.
"Wiggly World" is a great combonation of post-punk and new wave... it hits incredibly hard, and it moves at a blazing pace.
Other top songs on this album include "S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain)" (this song even gets scary!), "The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprise," "Pink Pussy Cat" (great voices), and, the best Devo song ever, "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA."
And contrary to popular opinion, "New Traditionalists" is only a notch below Devo's other works. I'm particularly fond of the last five songs. "Love Without Anger" and "Beautiful World" especially. Great songs, GREAT lyrics.
All in all, one of the best purchases around for a Devo fan. Buy it before it goes out of print!
Only four stars because of New Traditionalists........2004-06-08
Duty Now For The Future is one of DEVO's finest creations. All of the songs on this dark masterpiece are killer futurist, electro-spud rock'n'roll monsters. Duty Now For The Future is a follow lp to the great Q: Are We Not Men album and expands on the DEVO manifesto. Songs like "Clockout", "Wiggly World" and "The Day My Baby Gave Me A Suprise" are great rock'n'roll tunes while being gross and darkly humorous at the same time. DEVO was now developing and expanding the notion that DEVO was just doing a job and entertainment was just that-a job. This is the DEVO war machine at the hight of it's power! For great live footage of the band during the "Duty Now" era try to find the video The Men Who Make The Music. Too bad the original cover that featured a super-cool removable postcard and great bar-code graphics has been replaced with the UK/European version of the jacket art.
Is it on? Is it off? Reply!.......2004-01-23
This CD represents an unusual yet remarkable pairing of two absolutely essential recordings by the Spud Boys from Akron.
After the tour-de-force that was Devo's first full-length album, "Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!", the band switched gears and switched producers from Brian Eno to Ken Scott (known for his work with Supertramp, among others), to produce a chilling, icy work, still with intelligence, energy, and quirky creativity, but with a sound that smacked of anything but commercialism (listen to "Timing X" and "S.I.B"), and was nonetheless very appealling in an emotionally backdoor way; disturbingly catchy, a metaphor for the desire our darker consciousness emits.
I always felt "Freedom Of Choice" was the band's attempt at gaining a more commercial acceptance; not a bad record, but light-hearted when compared to the first two major releases. That's one of the reasons I was glad to see "New Traditionalists" coupled with "Duty Now...". It returned the band to a harder sound, more reminiscent of "Are We Not Men...", while somewhat refuting their more commercial leanings of "Freedom" with songs such as "Through Being Cool" and "Pity You". The attitude was still there, the vision, the disturbing catchiness. They hadn't lost it after all; if anything, they were juxtaposing their original fan base with those who came along upon hearing "Whip It". And it worked very well.
Get this CD. It will inform, entertain, and satirize as only Mothersbaugh and company could. Even 20-plus years down the line.

Great Music.......2006-05-04
By the title, Altissimo's latest CD, "Duty, Honor, Country," would appear to be just another compilation of patriotic and military music. Upon listening, however, I quickly realized that this is far from just another patriotic CD. The CD features highly spirited music with excellent sound reproduction.
The music by the US Army Field Band and Chorus spans the time from the Civil War to modern day. While some of the songs are well known, there were several that I heard for the first time, most notably "Fantasia on the Army Blue." According to the liner notes, this number, written by Ira Hearshen, was commissioned by the Army Field Band on the occasion of the bicentennial of the U.S. Military Academy. The number depicts Hearshen's impression of West Point in music and is based on the Academy song "Army Blue."
One of the highlights of the CD is a very moving and heartfelt narration by General Norman Schwarzkopf called "Duty, Honor, Country." This adaptation of a speech by General of the Army Douglas McArthur is "right on" and brings a feeling of pride to those who hear it.
No collection of military or patriotic music is complete without Sousa's "The Stars and Striped Forever," and this collection is no exception. The march is the last selection on the CD, and I believe that the producer truly saved the best for last. I consider this version one of the most perfect I have ever heard. The seldom-heard words were sung by the Soldier's Chorus, and the piccolo part (which is what makes the march so great) was an absolute perfect performance.
All in all, this is a CD that should be added to the collection of every patriotic American.

God Bless America!.......2006-07-27
I listened with at least moist eyes - and often streaming tears - to this stunning collection as I enjoyed a scenic ride on Amtrak from Seattle, WA to Portland, OR. I could not help but be proud and grateful for our most honorable country and the dedication and sacrifice of the people who volunteer to protect and defend her. I bought 15 copies and gave them to my friends and family. I intend to give copies to my best clients. Needless to say, I commend A Hero for Today to all.
Hero For Today.......2006-07-05
I heard the title song first at the memorial marker ceramony for Paul R. Smith, the first Medal of Honor recipient of the WOT. I went searching for a CD and to my surprise, found it as the title.
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have found the tone quality very good. My only 'complaint' is the lack of printed lyrics.
While I'm not usually a huge fan of military music, I found the lyrics time appropriate for occassional use in my social studies classes. While we have many discussions about the US policies, many of us can use a reminder of those few that are giving up so much for the many.
This CD is awesome!.......2005-08-15
I bought the CD for my mom who LOVES "We Were There". The 3rd infantry performs a great rendition of it during their concert series every year on the Ellipse in Washington D.C. which includes soldiers wearing the uniforms of the Army as they have evolved and a very stirring speech. Since the 3rd infantry is unable to sell recordings to the public, being able to at least get the song feor my mom was a wonderful present. The other music on the CD was also wonderfully patriotic and beautifully performed.
More Patriotic Dribble!.......2005-08-06
Another re-hash of Altissimo! recordings here. Once again recordings have been drawn together from the US Army Band Library which means the sound quality is often un-even, and nothing is original here.
The standard US Armed Forces Medley Altissimo! just uses from one CD to the next. I don't think they ever change the band playing it! So no mention of when these recordings were made either, or who was directing the Army band when they were done. Altissimo! has not reached that level of professionalism that other labels attained long ago.
Most of the patriotic material here has been issued before by Altissimo! There is very little new material on this CD. The redundant program presented here is a common feature with most US service bands. The musicianship is first-rate: The music they play often second or third rate! These bands can do a lot more than play this kind of dribble. Of course Altissimo! thinks that only the popular stuff will sell. And so they market the same thing over and over.
The picture on the front with the US soldier in desert tans is intended to pull in the patriotic buyer today. The funny thing here is that the recordings combined here were probably in the can pre-9/11! Buyer beware!
Terrific!.......2004-05-24
"Hero for Today" is a wonderfully balanced collection from the US Army Band and Chorus. There was a good selection of patriotic music, both old and new. The balance within the chorus was well executed, as was the balance between the band and the chorus. Their rendition of "Hymn to the Fallen" was thoughtful, almost prayerful, with a subtle choral overtone. The "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was a fresh and full arrangement of an old favorite. "Here's to America" was an upbeat expression of faith in America, in good contrast to the reflective "A Hero For Today." "This Is My Country" was set with a majestic tone, while "God Bless America" was an upbeat expression of an old favorite. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who would like to hear both traditional and new expressions of patriotic music.

An excellent Ayumi masterpiece.......2005-01-31
Duty is by far one of Ayumi Hamasaki's better CDs. Coming from the standpoint of an American fan with, okay, only six of her CDs, this is one I can listen to thoroughly and never get tired of. Working from the strings of "Duty", to the harder tone of "End of the World", and then to the soft, sad aura of "Teddy Bear", it reaches points of emotion that other artists dream to have.
Ayumi CAN sing, she just doesn't have the best voice.......2004-12-21
It's true that Ayumi Hamasaki doesn't have the best voice on earth. she has such a sharp unique voice. But that doesn't mean she can't sing. I hate those people who are like: ooooh you don't have a strong mature voice, you can't sing!! those people should be shot because they are just prejudice. Ayumi has a very large voice range. she can sing very low to very high. And her voice actually sounds real. I think she sounds much better than Madonna, who's singing is just soooo fake. this album is by far, my favorite Ayumi featured album. A-best is also very good but is not a featured album. I really wish she would put "duty" as one of her A-best songs because I just loooove that song sooooo much.
The best Ayumi album ever.......2004-10-31
Duty is the number one Ayu album. Many say that it is bad only beacause it includes 12 songs. The good thing then is that there are no filler tracks on this album, each song is equally good. The quailty of these songs is undescribable and it's hard not to enjoy the amazing feeling you get after listening to them. SURREAL and SEASONS are the stand-out-tracks from this album, if you haven't heard the songs please buy this album right now and be amazed by the Jpop queen.
the best album from ayu so far.......2004-09-30
I have 15 CDs so I know what I'm talking about here. Duty is her best album so far even better then most of her remixes. All songs are good and the ballads are amazing. She can really sing and her lyrics are deep and cool. Ayu rocks and no one is gonna change that ever period. CXarl
Utterly amazing.......2003-09-03
This is my 2nd album from Ayumi and I am just amazed at how brilliant this album is. Every single track is captivating and one can simply get lost listening to this over and over and over. Believe the hype and then some.

Album Description
A Funk Classic Remastered With Bonus Tracks
Jet magazine called him "one of rhythm & blues' most influential musicians." With a career spanning 40 years, Johnny "Guitar" Watson had success with blues, R&B and jazz. But his commercial and artistic apex came with his late '70s and early '80s funk recordings. Shout! Factory is proud to present three deluxe new editions of his classic funk albums - Ain't That A Bitch, A Real Mother For Ya and Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty - as part of an ongoing series in 2005 and early 2006.
Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks 8. Can You Handle It 9. Virginia's Pretty Funky
Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty, released the same year as A Real Mother For Ya , was his most hard-edged release to date. Not only were the grooves more intense, but he also upped the quotient of gritty blues guitar soloing. Despite being released so close to A Real Mother, the album managed to make it to #20 on the Black Albums chart and the lower reaches of the Pop chart.

Way Beyond The Call Of Duty!!!.......2005-10-17
The title track of this album is a true 70's funk classic. It's got it all-great groove, blaring clavinet and horns and Johnny Guitar's yowling vocals. And it just get's better from there as "It's About The Dollar Bill",the brilliant "It's A Damn Shame" and "Barn Door" all deliver the same kind of goods filled with Johnny's good humored style. And for once this CD features bonus cuts that are NOT featured in some other version on the album-the odd vocal groove "Can You Handle It" and the unique "Virgina's Pretty Funky"-a cross between R&B and some wacked out Broadway musical.Just a terrific funk reissue that deserves emmediate addition to your collection

mc hammer at his best.......2006-01-21
Mc Hammer Active Duty is my favorite cd. Active Duty is better than all of his other cds. Pop Yo Collar is almost the best song I have ever heard in my life. I like how in the cd he intruduces new artists like The Stooge Playas, Analise, and Wee Wee. If you don't have this album, buy it right now.
Black Like Me.......2004-10-17
Although I happen to have white skin, I also happen know that many black people really like me. (Or at least they haven't hurt me yet, which is the same thing.) I don't think of these people as black, they're just friends. And I don't see "color" when I look at Mr. Hammer, I just see a good person with a lot of musical talent. This is the kind of fun party music that transcends racial barriers and heals racial wounds. It is not like the kind of "music" that is popular now on MTV, that tries so hard to antagonize others and make them feel guilty about things they never did. Look, I wasn't responsible for slavery, okay? I also think it's great that they made Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday. Because many of my friends happen to be black and they don't mind that I happen to have white skin, I can feel at ease around ALL people of color now, so that I don't even think about race anymore. Anyway, because of them (my friends of color) I can see how stupid racism is. I can truly say that I know how it feels to be black in this country. With this new insight, I feel it's all right for me to criticize the kind of "music" that is being played on MTV instead of Mr. Hammer's happy celebration music. The new "music" they call rap just isn't what we need right now. It isn't helping things. Bring back Hammer! He is a healing presence for both blacks and whites. You people should be proud of this man, he is a credit to your race.
Hammer never quits.......2004-04-21
This album is a mix of R&B, Smooth Rap, and Hip Hop Dance music. The tracks are great depending on your mood whether fast or slow. Soldiers letter is the best song on the album followed by Pop Ya Collar and Nothin' but love. The young man who sings Night Show should get some airplay for this sultry love song. The religous views of Hammer are less obvious on this album as heard in Inside Out or Family Affair but the track Spittin' Fire is an impressive Gospel Hip Hop cut characteristic of the Funky Headhunter album. I was disappointed that Who'Holdin'It was so short but I love the lyrics similar to One Mo Time which was never promoted on an earlier album. I look forward to Mc Hammers new album - Full Blast.
warped in time.......2003-05-09
all those who reigned in his era are now wallowing in there self pitty and struggling violently to rise above the realm of the has beens. While so many have fallen victim to age, contreversy, and simply passing there prime..... mc hammer still pushes out a bold attempt at re enterring the spotlight.
if you hadnt been aware of the release date apon first listening you would have passed it off as a solid hip hop album for 1990, but obvoiusly... that is simply not what it is,. this album is dated and overdue by over a decade and it seems that he is stuck between his prime and today with no way of getting out. if you are an oldschool fan than this album shouyld keep you content... but if your looking for something new you simply wont find it digging up coffins ( metophore for hammers career). i trust most of those who purchased this album got what they expected,.... because in todays music...who buys an mc hammer album for cutting edge music??????????????.
I wouldn't even recommend this to fans.......2003-02-23
I was, like most Hammer fans, excited to see this album in stores, but I must say that my money would have been better spent on any of his other albums. There are a lot of bad songs here, especially becasue Hammer doesn't even appear on a number of them. And the good songs aren't even that great: Hammer's never been great with his delivery or lyrics, but as time has passed, it seems like he's gotten worse. He tries bragging about himself and his crew, but that's not exactly something he should be doing ten years after his heyday. The few bright spots really stick out ("Our Style," featuing some skillful rhyming from the Stooge Playas, and "Ain't no Stoppin' Us") because of the weakness of the rest of the album. I hate to drop on Hammer, but this was really not this attempted comeback was more of an embarassment than anything.

Customer Reviews:
THIS CHICK IS A FIRECRACKER!!!!!.......2006-06-14
I'm talking about vocalist Jen Durkin. She's a combustion of raw feelings waiting to be unleashed whenever she touches that microphone. Think Janis Joplin times a hundred and five. This chick WILL get you up so that you can get down, no matter who or what you think you are.
The rest of the band doesn't struggle to keep up. The whole unit functions beautifully and creates the intense sound of DEEP BANANA BLACKOUT.
These guys have been around for about ten years now. They are sort of on the underground circuit, but are known widly throughout the U.S in that circuit.. they developed out of Connecticut back in the mid nineties as part of the jam scene, but have grown fan base all around since. They are definately one of the most intense jam bands around (if you even would give them such a title..)
They mix up a core of jazz and funk, with metal grinding riffs, hard pounding drums, and firery raw vocals, and what you get is a sound that doesn't quit. This live album from 1999 best displays the band at the best of their talents.
A rapidly building two disc set that just barrelrolls its way to the highly climactic last track BOOT!
Jen Durkin drives me crazy when I've seen her live. Just hearing the disc under the right circumstances comes almost as close. She's a gawddammed firecracker! POWAH!
Excellent stuff!........ LOUD!
This Album Will Get Yo' [Butt] Movin'!.......2002-04-08
This is easily one of the best albums I own. I dare anyone to listen to this and not feel like moving to the music. The horns are phenomenal and Jen Durkin's voice is both powerful and soulful. The band locks into a groove from the start and never lets go. You can tell the audience is into it and the band feeds off of their energy. Definately pick this one up if you like high energy jazz/funk.
Also, if you ever get a chance to see this band live, don't pass on the opportunity. They know how to funk up a joint and bring incredible energy to the stage. They sound pretty good too!
bananas.......2001-07-26
i witnessed the fine musical talent of DBB [...] in 1999, and was blown away in the little venue, a similar recording of the tracks on this disc are bringing flashbacks! this album is pumpin with great music, the horns are crucial and do the job right! AMAZING!!!!!
A truely jammin' band and CD!.......2001-02-19
This Cd rocks! If you like really funky, jammin' music then this cd is for you. This is one of the best pieces of music that I have bought in a long time. I do not want to categorize them as a jam band, etc...They just know how to groove. The talent in this band is very impressive. One last word: If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, it will be well worth your time! They know how to funk a place up! This Cd is a good taste of what a typical live performance is like.

In it's own class, Tall Paul Duty Free.......2000-10-06
This was a random buy for me, one I bought just browsing through Amazon. But it's probably the best buy I've ever made. The tunes are just brilliant and the mixing is as good as can be, Tall Paul at his greatest. For real appreciation, it's best listening to this as loud as you can, it's pure club material.
superb, upbeat house->trance->house journey.......1999-10-28
British DJ Tall Paul has created a mix that fits the bill of "instant house party" more than any other mix-disc I own (e.g. Global Undergrounds); while there will always be individuals who will turn down the heady, thick trance of Sasha & Digweed or Nick Warren, and there will always be those who think they have something better to do than hit the floor to Tenaglia's darker beats, I challenge anyone to resist the mind-bogglingly happy, funky house that kicks off this disc (play the samples for a taste); catchy vocal samples, chunky bass lines, and the sound of London clubs packed with party-people jumping up and down with their hands in the air.
By the time everyone's settled in and sweaty, things unpredictably take a turn for the spacier and trancier (presumably, by that time, everyone should be off their gob). You might recognize Durango-95's "5:55" is a track commonly used by the likes of Paul Van Dyk to launch a 5 a.m. dancefloor into hyperspace.
From then on, it's bolshy prog-trance buildup after bolshy prog-trance buildup (given or take a housey vocal loop) until, presumably, parts of the head-bobbing crew will snap out of it and think "wait! this started out as a house disc! wot's with all these wobbly pooshy 'I'm soaring through space' melodies then?" By that time, hopefully, you will be at the end of "The Sound", at which point a masterful use of lorry sound effects drive around in the mix for about a minute until a wild-eyed fair maiden screams at the top of her lungs and issues back the bottom-heavy funk planet. "Stomping System" gets a short reprise, fades out and then it's time for everybody to lie around on the floor smooching. All right then.
