Customer Reviews:
Music for the baby!.......2006-10-14
I am the caregiver for my newborn grandson who is VERY VERY fussy. There are all kinds of CDs with soothing music for the babies, BUT I happened to hear that opera was a great listen for the little ears and this one is the best. It has high voices and very low bass voices lots of BOOMs and arias. When I first put it on for him, (in the middle of a loud cry), he quieted down almost as soon as the first stanza was over. He now smiles and waves his little arms and legs around when I turn it on. He Listens and loves this CD, and so do I! The words are hard to understand but the sounds are marvelous. If you know of any mother/father who is wanting music for a small baby/child, tell them about Gilbert and Sullivan (and they will enjoy it, too).
Unlistenable.......2005-11-11
The voices are wonderful, but the recording is so faulty that only the two tracks from Iolanthe sound at all okay. At first I thought it was my equipment, then realized that the CD was at fault. And I bought one for myself and one for a friend! I adore Gilbert & Sullivan and D'Oyly Carte is the best, but this particular CD shouldn't be offered for sale.
THIS is music . . ........2005-07-21
. . . not rap, not rock, not pop. Light opera! I love Arthur Sullivan's music, even though I'm 11, and I love this CD! The tunes are really catchy, and I'm usually singing one to myself. Not many people my age like light opera, but to me, it's the best music there is. Don't be afraid that you won't like this CD. You'll love it, even though it's hard to understand at sometimes. You might want to listen to some of the songs first to see if you like it. After all, not everyone likes opera.
A Surefire Method of Loosing the Blues.......2000-03-03
This recording, done in a studio, allows the listener to "hear" all the words of all the patter songs. John Reed is just excellent as Koko, the Modern Major General, the Monarch of the Sea. Highlights come from Iolanthe, HMS Pinefore, Yeomen, Mikado, Gondoliers. A truly wonderful experience to be enjoyed over and over.

Excellent ... but ..........2007-02-07
As a vintage G&S listener, I appreciated this collection but I think it would mostly appeal to the specialist-completeist. A newcomer to the genre would do well to get a full operetta DVD. (I prefer the OK BBC performances to the tarted up & modernised Australian ones.)
Old-comers probably already have all these tracks as part of their collection of vintage full operetta recordings.
But don't let my idiosynchratic views deter you if you really like G&S... but not to the extent of buying all the vintage full operetta versions.

a voice teacher and early music fan.......2006-01-19
This is a good representation of Campions' songs considering that he wrote so many of them. It is likely that Campion, not himself a professional performing musician, thought it the role of the performer to fashion their own lute parts:'For the notes and Tablature, if they satisfie the most, we have our desire; but let expert masters please themselves with better'. This seems to support the notion that Campion wished his own texts to be respected and not overshadowed by music. Far from being a foursquare musical Mr. Average, he shows himself to be a musical revolutionary. While the florid vocal writing of the Italians was an innovation to which his poetry was not suited, his sense of harmony and the responsibility given to the performer in 'creating' the music from a tune and a bass was new. One has to remember that his life was quite exciting living in the "fast lane" so to speak. I mention this fact because the emotional investment on the part of the singer must be great encompassing all sorts of tone color and vocal nuances. All of the singing is "pretty" but except for a couple of the songs such as "I Care Not For These Ladies" and "Fain Would I Wed" which showed some measure of drama, I didn't feel anything with the rest of them. Blaze has an excellent voice, but unfortunately the emotion is not always there. I think he comes across best in sacred music..Just my opinion. There are 23 songs on this disc. Many have been frequently recorded by other singers, particularly countertenors. Some of the most familiar are:'It Fell on a Summer's day'-'I care not for these Ladies'-Fire! Fire!'-'The cypress-curtain of the night'-'Fain Would I Wed'- and 2 sacred songs:'Author of Light' and 'Never Weather-beaten sail'.

Customer Reviews:
I like this album.......2002-11-16
Great hardcore from the Gainesville area. I'm a total sucker for this scene and this band is just too good. It's hard to capture the intensity of their live show on album, but I think they pull it off pretty well. Anyways, listening to this album very loud will only add to your enjoyment, because it certainly helped for me. I really can't say enough good things about this release, other than definitely in the Top 5 of 2002. Oh yeah, it rocks.

Quitters Never Win is a Winner.......2004-01-06
"Quitters Never Win" is one of the best album releases of last year. Much the Same is probably the most underrated Chicago band that has ever played a show. This new album shows their growth and progression from their first album "Caught Off Guard" when they were known as Don't Look Down under Tank Records.
The Breakdown:
hile listening to this CD, your are gurranteed to fall in love with at least 3 songs. A good one of them would be he followin
#1 WISH - This is song is perfect to be a begining track on an album. The guitars parts are great, the basslines are solid, and the drums do a good job but it was the bridge on this song that makes it incredible.
#4 Liar - This song also appeard on the "Caught Off Guard" album, but it's re-make on "Quitters Never Win" made it that much better. The basslines and the bass fills on this song is like no other. The guitars and drums plays solid complicated parts but the vocal structure on this song makes it an instant hit.
#5 Masquerade - This song is solid all around but it's the message that makes this song my favorite on the album.
GREAT cd.......2003-10-02
Much the Same is an awesome power-punk band! Quitters Never Win is an excellent CD, with lyrics that are event-specific and can apply to everyone. They harmonize and scream, they are very versatile.
If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. They are amazing. They are very appreciative of support at shows, and play for a crowd of 2 like there were 5000 people in the room. They are the nicest people I have ever met, and aren't at all arrogant about what they do.
My favorite song on the CD is number 3, New Years. The energy contained in the song is inspiring, and the vocals are very emotional (not emo, not whiney, emotional).
If you like bands like NOFX, Rise Against, or Strung Out, you'll love Much the Same.
This album rocks!!!!.......2003-09-26
This is one of the best albums I've ever heard for so many reasons. The lyrical content could not be any better. At least one song off this CD is guarunteed to mean something to anyone who listens. This is not a girlfriend/breakup cd like so many other "punk" bands put out. These songs are about life. The songs all sound great too. It's good, fast, melodic punk rock. The guitar work is excellent. Mook is awesome on drums. These guys are the nicest band I've ever gotten the chance to talk too, so go see their show too! If you want something more than just pop punk ear candy, go buy this cd!
Amazin Album.......2003-05-21
Chicago's Punk Rock at its finest. This album is a top favorite for the year.

I agree with fellow reviewer..........2005-09-21
I got a mixed CD called "ThriveMix 1" and this track was on there. it was a Benny Benassi mix, but only ran 3 minutes before mixing out. So I thought I'd hunt down the CD single...the benassi mix isn't even on here! What a letdown. If you want to hear it, you'll have to invest in "ThriveMix 1", which has some great gems on it, although overall it has other problems which i describe in my review of that disc.
worthy, even if there is only two tracks.......2005-09-17
I was disappointed by the lack of tracks on this single. But when I took a listen I was pleasantly surprised.
The radio edit is self explanatory. It comes in at 3:39.
On to the Mirwais mix. It's four minutes long. There are plenty of elements from the original track here, and yet it sounds like a whole new song. I like it very much, and I believe it made the purchase worthwhile.
I do however wish more mixes of this track existed, since it is such a wonderful song.
A must have for the Fischerspooner fan. If you are just discovering them, and want to buy a single, the first release off thier latest LP, Just Let Go, features several remixes, all of which are wonderful, plus a bonus non lp track. I'd hoped for the same with thier second single, but I guess they got lazy...

Album Description
Pianist Marianna Rashkovetsky plays Brahms, Chopin, and Grieg. The album opens with Brahms's piano transcription of the Bach Chaconne for the left hand, an unusually difficult piece which is seldom performed. The concentrated and passionate Brahms Intermezzi opus 117 follows. She plays a sampling of the brilliant Chopin Edudes including the passionate and complex No. 7 and finishes the album with the infrequently played Grieg Piano Sonata opus 7 in E minor.
