A Public Affair is a disco-studded, stunningly entertaining, 13-song slab of energetic white-girl pop. From the summer-fizzy first song and title track--which lifts, improbably, from both Madonna and the Supremes--Simpson tears out of the gate refusing to fall back on stale-sounding power ballads, something of a signature in the past. "You Spin Me Round" updates the Dead or Alive '80s hit; the vampy and innovative "B.O.Y." borrows from a vintage Cars track; and "Walkin' 'Round in a Circle," about as sleepy a track as you'll find here, seems to put a kind of pop spit-shine on a tune both Stevie Nicks and Ryan Adams popularized. Later tracks, including the excellent Louis Prima-inspired "Swing with Me" and the shockingly urban-sounding "Fired Up," bring Simpson's inner femme fatale to the fore. Let's hope it doesn't slink away anytime soon--other Simpson discs have been forgettable, but this is an affair to remember. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars pretty good and fun. .......2007-06-26

This album is pretty good. It leaves a little to be desired though. The songs are fun but not very well written. I think that Jessica is so talented and this album doesn't really allow her to demonstrate that. the rest of the album is not really as good as the single "public affair" but it still holds it's own. It has a few songs that are similar but just aren't as catchy. It's a good song to listen to for girls that could use a little empowerment. It makes you feel sexy and fun and cheers you up. overall it's a pretty good cd.

5 out of 5 stars Great album Jessica Rocks.......2007-06-05

this was a great album the song were catchy and each had it own meaning anybody who didnt like this must be crazy

1 out of 5 stars Yes. she is pretty. But you can't see her when this dribble is being played........2007-05-14

I honest to god can't believe this woman has a recording contract. She has a weak, very average voice that I'm sure is digitally enhanced and lip synced for live performances. She appeared on this years Kennedy Center Honors. Her performance was so bad, it had to be edited out of the program that was broadcast on CBS. Does that tell you anything?

1 out of 5 stars Can't give this music away.......2007-05-02

Without going into the "whys" and the "hows" of why this album is bad - I will leave that to those who care enough to dissect this atrocity - I will simply say that every track sounded pitiful to me. In fact, this album is so bad I passed on the opportunity to download it for FREE. And when I let my friends know about the download, they passed on it too. I had to laugh because people will accept anything for free; but Simpson's music is so bad that you can't even give it away. Forget spending $16, it isn't even worth precious hard drive space--and with my hard drive bursting at the seams, I am very picky about what I will load on it. Free doesn't cut it anymore; it has to be good too.

This album is a shame because Simpson does have a decent voice. I actually like her earlier music but her song choices on this album are terrible. I'm no voice coach but she definitely needs to stop oversinging songs and control her voice better. She also needs more sophisticated song choices.

Ooops, I guess my time isn't so precious after all because I did dissect this atrocity a little bit didn't I? LOL!

5 out of 5 stars You did a great job, Jessica!! THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!!.......2007-04-27

In my opinion, "A Public Affair" has got to be one of the best albums that Jessica Simpson has EVER put out!! I just LOVE listening to it!! Why anybody would think otherwise is just...weird. Unlike some people, I'm proud to own this album. I definately got my money's worth!!

        Album Description

UK pressing of the debut album by female British MC Lady Sovereign features one bonus track: 'Pretty Vacant' (Live At Commodore Ballroom). Her recent success in the US is all the more remarkable because she's steadfastly stuck to her uniquely UK sound. You'll find no Neptunes makeover. No MOR ballads have snuck into the set. Sovereign's still rhyming about shepherd's pie, Tango and Tony Blair. She's still playing havoc with musical genres; mixing up Rap and Pop, Punk and Grime, the social comment with the wisecracks. In other words: she's still all the things that made her stand out in the first place. The album features fourteen tracks including early singles `Random', `Public Warning' and `Hoodie' as well as new single `Love Me Or Hate Me' (which has sold over 125,00 digital units in the US so far and the video for which has seen Sovereign become the first British artist to have the No.1 most requested video on MTV US). Island. 2007.

Two disk set. One is a CD, the other a DVD. (Note: the DVD is a Zone 2 DVD & you may only be able to see it in B & W on your set, although when I played it in my Mac I got to view it in color. But no matter, color or B & W, it's still a real joy to witness.) Both (CD, which is a region 1 CD, & DVD) are terrific. Lady sings in Spanish, French and English.
Am addicted to Jeane Manson & will be buying more of her music. You'll fall in love with her voice, natural grace and stage presence.

I cannot believe that I havent' even heard of her until about two months ago. Makes no difference what your age is, you'll enjoy this great performer's music.

4 out of 5 stars THIS WAS DONE MUCH BETTER THAN THE U.S. VERSION.......2003-10-06

THIS IS THE BEST P.E. COLLECTION THAT YOU CAN GET RIGHT NOW. ALL OF P.E.'S GREATEST HITS FROM 1988-1994 ARE ALL ON HERE. WHILE THIS COLLECTION HAS 4 EXTRA SONGS THAT THE U.S. VERSION DOESN'T HAVE, IT STILL FORGETS TO INCLUDE SONGS FROM ''YO BUM RUSH THE SHOW''. WHILE THEY DO HAVE SUCH CLASSICS AS ''WELCOME TO THE TERRORDOME'', ''BLACK STEEL IN THE HOUR OF CHAOS'', ''SHUT EM DOWN'', ''DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE'', AND OTHERS, THEY STILL FORGOT TO PUT ''MIUZI WEIGHS A TON'', ''PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1'', AND ''TOO MUCH POSSE'' ON THIS CD. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, THIS IS STILL A GOOD CD TO HAVE IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE COLLECTING ALL THEIR ALBUMS FROM THE 1988-1994 TIME PERIOD. (...)

5 out of 5 stars Better - and better value - than the U.S. version.......2002-11-24

An excellent selection of the best of PE, rap's (and rock's) most political hitmakers. The context and programming of the original albums are lost, of course, but this is a killer collection that rocks hard and deep from start to finish and a sonic assault that cuts most of today's players. This collection matches the U.S. "Millennium Collection" CD through the first nine tracks and the final track but adds "Louder Than a Bomb", "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos", "Prophets of Rage", and "Rebel Without a Pause", making this CD a better collection and a better value.

Jessica Simpson has become than a pop singer, more a pop-culture icon, the general public's interest in everything she does is at an all-time high! In 2006, she returns to the pop-music world in a big way, following on from her #2 Platinum selling single 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'. In Australia, her previous album `In This Skin' sold Platinum sales and spawned the hits 'With You' and 'Take My Breath Away'. The 1st single 'A Public Affair' is an uptempo pop party song that will be a radio hit and is about a girls night out and hanging with your friends. The single features a karaoke version for all girls to sing along.

The Debut Single from Jessica Simpson's Album "a Public Affair". Includes Two Exclusive Mixes.

            Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Post Nick Doesn't Stop Jessica!.......2007-01-26

As Jessica's single status brings about a new "persona" to the spotlight, there is no question that this CD's lyrics are about enjoying the freedom that comes from not being attached! The song "A Public Affair" is her message that she has the "green" light and there are no rules; do what you want and have fun, the party doesn't stop!

The album cover is nice as the artwork displays Jessica in the V.I.P. section of a club or at a party with her closest friends among them CaCee Cobb and Ken Paves. It comes housed in a slim-line jewel case. The extended mix and a karaoke version back the title track yet there are no lyrics to sing along.

A Public Affair Album Version (3:21) is a great song as her vocals are softer, breathier, and more sensual thus giving a more listener friendly sound vs. the loud on your ears vocals of the past. There is also a more dance; disco, early 80's type sensation in the overall styles of the music.

A Public Affair Extended Mix (5:48) sounds similar to the previous track however you get extended minutes of the song added vocals and a few enhanced instrumental effects.

A Public Affair Karaoke Version (3:21) is for those who like to sing. On some portions Jessica does sing in the chorus background. If you prefer a dance mix there is another single now released with a great club sound. Otherwise, enjoy this version!

1 out of 5 stars I'm so happy she made this.......2006-09-11

because this is effectively the end of Jessica Simpson as a pop icon (not that she should have ever been one in the first place!).

For all celebrities' whining about the paparazzi, why would they then turn around and make songs about them like this and Lindsay Lohan's laughable "Rumors?" The current crop of starlets would have been long forgotten (as they should have been!) if it weren't for the paparazzi.

It's sad to think that someone with true talent such as Debbie Gibson (who wrote, produced, and performed her own songs) couldn't make it past two (maybe three) pop albums yet this airhead continues to be rammed down the public's throats because she shoves her body in everyones' faces (after claiming she'd never do it).

All Simpson is good for is sampling and covering songs from the 80's and breathing heavily into a microphone while having her voice dubbed over 5 or 6 times in the process. Perhaps she'll do something original one day but I'll leave that up to her ever shrinking fan base to discover.

This is yet another sad example of the beyond sorry state of popular "music" today. Save your dough, folks. It's not worth it. - Donna Di Giacomo

            2 out of 5 stars What a shock.......2006-08-30

Jessica Simpson once again returns to the music that was widely praised when boy bands ruled the airwaves. Instead of being music foward she has once again choosen to do the same stuff that sounds just the same only now shes dancing around in a bikini. What happended to the morals she use to present saying she would not want to be a sex symbol like Britney Spears? Her new CD is bland; sounding exactly like her old stuff. Save your money and listen to her old stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Fun song but lacks something. .......2006-08-26

This is a fun song to listen to but I can't help but feel that she wan't really enjoying singing it.

5 out of 5 stars Simple, fun and fresh........2006-08-22

This song is a fun, up-tempo pop song.

Major props to Jessica for bringing back pop, at it's finest. It's a refreshing change from all the R&B and Hip-Hop crap that has been infesting the charts the last year or so.

Great work Jess! Keep it up!
