Glazed Donut Freakeealahhdocious!!!!!!!!!.......2007-04-20
Chic Groove collection is filled to the rim with tight bass pumping Rhythm guitar shufflin' grooves that will shake your booty and make you wanna dance till you drop.
Picture disco refined to a diamond polish thats kicked up with a delicious funky edge and you got Chic.
The hits are all here like the rave outs "Le Freak", "Good Times", and "Everybody Dance" but the lesser known album tracks like "Will you cry" may offer up even more reward with their underplayed status and their equally compelling grooves.
This collection covers all the Chic bases well from their 70's heyday to their 80's material.
It's all good either way and if you're a funky groovy disco dance freak then put this collection on and you'll have a butt naked shake your groove thing party till dawn time and you won't regret one second.
Chic wants your love so dish out the dollar and get ready to holla!
See ya on the dance floor.
Club 7
Other ESSENTIAL Disco Funk collections: Bad Girls= Donna Summer, Risque= Chic(Their Masterpiece), All N' All=Earth Wind and Fire, The Payback=James Brown, Stand=Sly and the Family Stone, Fever=Kylie Minogue (Just for fun but flat out sexy club jams from an ultra delicious woman)
Chic Cheer.......2007-01-25
The 2 good reasons for purchasing Definitive Groove Collection are the improved sound quality - previous "remastered" issues sound very grainy and faint in comparison - and the post-1980 tracks, which are a revelation for those only familiar with the group's hits. Late Chic was an extremely funky proposition, with solo male vocals and a more definite shift to r'n'b. Tracks like Flash Back and Your Love Is Cancelled transcend their time and sound deliriously atmospheric now. A good overview of a great band, with the (admittedly considerable) chaff edited to a set of sparkling gems.
Thorough compilation.......2007-01-03
From 1977-1980, Chic was undoubtedly one of the hottest acts in music. Lumped somewhat unfairly into the disco category, Chic's influence grew far beyond disco into pop, rock, modern dance music and of course, hip-hop.
This two-disc collection covers their peak period as well as their post-1980 period.
Disc One is obviously the attraction here since it features all of Chic's biggest hits including "I Want Your Love", "Good Times" and "Le Freak" as well as the much-sampled "Chic Cheer".
Disc Two may be of less interest since it covers Chic's post-disco material, but at least featuring these songs does make this a definitive collection of Chic's work.
Still the tightest group .......2006-12-02
I'm a disco baby so 70's music was what I grew up on. Chic was a favorite of my parents so I'm very familiar with them. This album is the best Chic compilation to date. It has the favorites like le freak, good times, dance dance dance and my favorite My forbidden Lover. The sound quality is much better than on the last couple of best of albums and there are more tracks, including some lesser known tracks from the 80's as well as some of the stuff done by the new version of Chic. Oh Yeah and as I said before, Still the tightest group.
"Chic" Out!.......2006-09-20
While I of course knew of Chic from their fabulous singles such as "Le Freak", "Good Times", "Everybody Dance", & "I Want Your Love", it was Bernard Edwards & Niles Rogers (the founding members & core of Chic) varied credits as producers that caught my eye & ears. They've worked with Madonna, Deborah Harry, Diana Ross, Jody Watley, & even Carly Simon to name a few. So I already liked their sound, a unique blend of stylish R&B & pop. At insistence of my best friend (a soul & R&B expert) I purchased "The Definitve Groove Collection" to get a starting point with Chic, & am I glad I did!
Chic more than lives up to their namesake as Edwards, Rogers, along with vocalists Norma Jean Wright, Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, with Tony Thompson on drums lead with their infectious R&B. More than just disco, or R&B even, Chic effortlessly put out groove based cuts, such as their previously mentioned monster cuts. Strings, bass, great keyboard & synthesizer work, with soulful vocal styling makes for great listening.
Other highlights include the melancholic loner "Soup For One", the shimmering "When You Love Someone", as well as the fab "Chic Cheer" to name a few.
This is the best starting point if you are a casual fan & great for old Chic heads to have all the hits & selected cuts from all their records in one space. "The Definitve Groove Collection" for Chic thrills & sparkles, preparing you for their actual albums. Highly recommended!

Decent Collection.......2007-07-10
This is a decent collection of Sister Sledge's work but Rhino/Atlantic why not put together a "real" definitive collection or an anthology on these ladies and include the hard to find singles? They are more than deserving of it.
Most people think Sister Sledge fell to earth with 1979's We are Family, but this is not the case. They'd been around since 1971 and made a handful of great records that were never promoted before and after "Family"...anyway I digress. Again... Rhino give us an Anthology worthy of these ladies... Below is Sister Sledges(mostly) Atlantic discography:
1971 - Time Will Tell (single) - Money Back Records
1972 - Weatherman (single) - ATCO Records
1973 - Mama Never Told Me (single) - ATCO Records
1975 - Circle of Love - ATCO Records
1976 - Thank You For Today/Have Love, Will Travel (single) - Cotillion Records
1977 - Together - Cotillion Records
1978 - I've Seen Better Days (single) - Cotillion Records
1979 - We Are Family - Cotillion Records
1980 - Love Somebody Today - Cotillion Records
1981 - All American Girls - Cotillion Records
1982 - The Sisters - Cotillion Records
1983 - Betcha Say That To All The Girls - Cotillion Records
1985 - When The Boys Meet The Girls - Atlantic Records
Definitive collection.......2007-02-05
Perhaps this is a bit too much for the casual Sister Sledge fan, but if you want a collection that covers all eras of their career, this is the one to buy. This compilation features all the well-known hits such as "We Are Family", "He's The Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music", in addition to favorites such as "All American Girls" and what is perhaps their best song in my opinion, "Thinking of You".
Sister Sledge sang the original version of "All the Man That I Need" that went on to be a big hit for Whitney Houston, and they had a minor hit with their version of "My Guy". They also had a big UK hit in 1985 with "Frankie", which is admittedly awful. All these tracks and more are included here.
Lives Up To Its Title.......2006-09-12
THE DEFINITIVE GROOVE COLLECTION may be a little too much Sister Sledge for casual fans, but for deep soul/disco lovers, this collection is a must. Besides the expected hits, this anthology includes such popular album cuts as "Betcha Say That To All The Girls" (featuring a humorous rap by jazz singer Al Jarreau), "Super Bad Sisters" (one of the earliest rap/sung collaborations), and the creamy Phiily disco/soul of "Pain Reliever". It also includes three non-album singles (The Top 20 UK hit "Mama Never Told Me", the ballad "Thank You For Today" and the peppy "Cream Of The Crop", which crawled to #100 on the Billboard r&b charts in 1976). The usual quality Rhino liner notes are here as well as clean remastered sound. According to the liner notes, Sister Sledge gets a mechanical royalty whenever "We Are Family" is played although they didn't write the song.
OH WOW.......2006-08-29
This is not really a review, but a loyal Sister Sledge fan jumping for joy right now. All of my favorite SS tracks are on here. I think anybody who is a SS fan will truly enjoy this double disc. It's well worth it.

I TOTALLY agree with TMACK79..........2007-07-01
...I was listening to my "STELLAR FUNK - The Best of Slave" compilation, when it dawned on me that "Party Lites" wasn't included!
Again, TMACK79 hit the head on the nail - how do record company's expect to continue to sell CDs when they continue to offer out watered down "Best Of..." and "Definitive Collection" compilations, and then adding radio versions of everything?! Hopefully the buying public will eventually wise up. What a joke...
Record Companies - open up those musical libraries/archives and give the people what they want! Maybe that'll help curb dishonest people from attempting to acquire the music they want illegally from P2P and Russian music sites (I personally don't believe in them, but the original Napster back in the day DID have better offerings than the record companies)!
Amazon - you guys are big enough to resolve this issue with the record company's AND give Apple a run for their money selling music digitally!
Or perhaps buydotcom would be interested in resolving this....?
at their best.......2007-04-06
This is Slave at their best. I have a few Cd's by them but this is the first to contain all the songs that I love by them in one place.
Again ??.......2006-10-15
Most of these songs where on other Slave Best cds that I already have. I would rather have "JUST TOUCH OF LOVE" AND "BAD ENUFF" albums on one CD, with the extended version of song "SHAKE IT UP".
Stellar Fungk 2.......2006-10-10
Double CD from the baddest band ever !!!!! I have to agree with TMACK79 though...I'm a huge fan of Slave also and I wonder WHEN ARE WE GONNA GET "JUST A TOUCH OF LOVE" IN CD VERSION? I own every cd that's available by them (the one's that are worth buying...any true fan knows which ones they are) and I bought this collection just so I could get "Foxy Lady (Funky Lady)" from the Just A Touch Of Love album. I rate it a 5 because it's Slave but let's re-issue the original albums "Just A Touch Of Love" and "Bad Enuff" so the true fans can listen to tracks like "SHINE" before we die. But on the real, if you are a fan of Slave and don't already own their stuff on CD, this is the one to get. Two disc cover both "Stellar Fungk - The Best of Slave" and "Party Lights - More of the Best". Save a little money and enjoy the FUNGK !
Same old, same old.......2006-09-03
I get the trick now. R&B is reissued and retreaded in different forms ("Greatest Hits, Definitive Collections", etc.), when the same songs rear themselves in every edition. And when a new song (or songs) are included, its usually some lame track no one wants (or it would have been released with an original issue album). This collection follows form. R&B music does not seem to warrant the release of music in original album form, or if so, in such small release that they become collector's items. When, when, when is Slave going to release "Just a Touch of Love" in CD form? Its almost becoming laughable how labels get away with retreading the same music, with just enough variation that most people wind up with multiple CD that are, for the most part, the same music, with a new track included here or there. Some essential R&B albums have not been touched because we continue to bite on the same hook with each release. If this review seems wanting as far as addressing this particular "CD", its because you've heard all this music on various CD's before (and have probably already collected all the AVAILABLE essential tracks).

Album Description
JAM: Music for Movement with Children, was born out of Charity Kahn's JAM Sessions -- music and movement classes for little people and their big people. All songs have accompanying movements, and one need only read the track list to get a feel for the kind of creative play and joyful fun these songs will inspire in your kids. Themes range from animals to trains to body-as-instrument to counting to yoga to the infamous Creeper Walk. You and your kids will love to listen and move to these tunes at home, on the road, wherever...again and again and again!
Charity's beautiful voice and ingenious harmonies permeate the recording, as do the originality and insightfulness of her songwriting. Instruments include piano, bass, guitar, mandolin, flute and percussion. Appropriate ages: All! For more of the same music and movement fun, check out Charity's other family music releases: the award winning (2004 Parent's Choice Approved Award) Charity and the JAMband: Peanut Butter and JAM, and recently released Charity and the JAMband: Rock Your Socks Off, all available here on amazon.com.

Kids love the movement.......2007-03-22
I am a music teacher to children K-5, I wanted some new music for movement in my classes. ALL of the children I teach love the music on this CD. They especially love the "Creeper Walk". Music and movement are essential for growing children. Thanks to Charity Kahn.
This CD is the BEST!.......2003-12-05
This CD is my 2 year old daughters favorite music CD. She often asks for it, pointing at the stereo "jam mommy...jam jam". And not only does she like it, but i do too. unlike other kids CD's the music isn't cloying or annoying, but catchy, even to my "adult" ears. i highly recommend it! Great birthday and x-mas gift.

Rapper's Delight.......2006-11-15
If you are looking for the roots of Rap Music this is it. The Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash got the ball rolling back in the late 70s and early 80s. They've all but been forgotten in the years since, but Blondie made Rapper's Delight a big hit in 1980, and the rest as they say is history.

sensual fusion with haunting vocals and modern instruments. Ride the perfume-groove with Electronic Sufi songs and timeless Indian chanting into Moroccan deserts, over Bulgarian mountains, across the great African Savannah, beyond ancient Mediterranean ruins,
a cool, hypnotic journey through an undulating sound-collage.
