It's tempting to label the Dave Matthews Band as torchbearers of the Grateful Dead's moderate rock fusion and send them off on the next summer tour featuring either Blues Traveler or the Spin Doctors. But there is more at work here, particularly on the band's second major-label release. Crash pairs soothing sounds (flute, acoustic guitar, six-string bass) with a dark emotional undercurrent. The South African (by way of Virginia) frontman reveals a rare intensity on the title track and the free-form "41," while the group shows that it's not afraid to let loose on songs such as the stirring "Too Much." "Crash" was definatly not a crash...as far as sophmore albums go.......2007-06-21

Despite the fact that I am writing an online review for a DMB album that isn't their best, I am still writing this to show that "Crash" is definatly "one of their best".

When Dave Matthews first started this band in the very early 90's, he noted that he did not know how successful DMB would be. They soon ignited a revolution in music consisting of solid rock mixed with jazz that appealed to different fan bases. Crash is an album that would appeal to the typical listener, and it would give goosebumps to those who really consider DMB to be one of their favorite bands.

In "Two Step", you really get introduced to DMB's tendancy to plod around and jam for 6+ minutes. It really is a nice feel when you listen to it. The third track off this album is "Crash into Me", which is their most successful single. "#41" is definatly a song to listen to. Because the song has such a catchy introduction, the listener instantly get's engulfed and is soon satisfied after its 6:39 running.

"Lie in Our Graves" is possibly their best song off this album. The story to this song is so subtle, yet you know everything when it ends. It simply talks about the story of a boy who is born, grows up, and eventually see's his friends and loved ones die off as he is there to stay. Because this song is better when heard live, I can't say that the middle jam is "gold". I'd probably have to say its "great". Because most of their live versions of this song clock in around 12 minutes, this 5:42 version isn't as packed, but it definatly is a piece of art.

"Proudest Monkey" is perhaps the most unique song on the album, because of its telling story. It is also a 9 minute plod of jamming that are very well expressed by Dave, Boyd, Stefan, Carter, and Leroi.

This album wasn't at all a "crash" as far as sophmore albums go. In fact, it was one of their greatest they've released. This album would definatly appeal to new fans, and it would give true fans goosebumps everytime they hear it.

Best album to meet DMB.......2007-06-03

This was the first DMB album I listened and it just keeps suprinsing me. Every time I hear it, I find something new as if it was posible for each song to sound diferent each time. If you've never listen DMB, this is a sure bet!

A Luscious, Brilliant Album...............2007-04-01

CRASH by the Dave Matthew Band is just amazing. I can't believe I waited so long to buy this. How would I describe this album in one word? STUNNING. I mean, between the seamless percussion and sensuous vocals, this album has you at the opening bars of "So Much To Say" (track #1) and doesn't let go until "Proudest Monkey" (the final track, #12). Dave Matthews is masterful here, as are the supporting musicians. The soaring violin-work on track #3, "Crash," on of their most well-known songs, is masterfully delivered by Boyd Tinsley. Oh my God, I would marry this man and I have never even had a conversation with him....he seduces me with his violin. This whole album is an odyssey through love, sexuality and alienated indifference. This music is way more than compelling melodies. The lyrics are poetry. Dave Matthews is at once intimately alluring on "Crash," and then emotinally unavailable on "Say Goodbye," an ode to one night stands. Get this album today. Don't wait another day........buy it now.

Perfect album!!!!.......2006-11-18

I believe this album is their best album ever, so far. I cant
see any other ablum as perfect as this one. They got some really
good albums too. "crash into me" got me into this band. I remember
the first time I heard that song I was with my girl at the time,
and we both just fell in love with it.

90's classic.......2007-06-27

We bought (well, rebought) this album after album remembering the title song was good. We had forgot how good many of the other songs were. It's really a good album if you haven't heard it before. As I recall, the follow up album to this one was not good.

Love this band.......2007-01-01

My brother Greg introduced me to the Crash Test Dummies when this album came out. I absolutely fell in love with Brad's voice. I bought the tape right away and wore it out. I love all the songs but my favorite has to be
"Two knights and maidens". Some people might not like the lyrics to some of the songs, it's not for everyone. I listen to his beautiful voice, that's the main reason why I love this CD.

I only give this album 3 stars because about half the songs are only so-so. The other half make up for it by being surprisingly good! I, like many people, was introduced to the Crash Test Dummies when "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" became a huge radio hit. I really liked that song but was very wary of getting an entire album by them. I was not disappointed in the lyrics department; the songs are all a little strange. However, I was surprised that so many of these songs were not only catchy, but the lyrics were actually clever and/or hilarious. "Afternoons & Coffeespoons" is my hands-down favorite song on here. The melody is very catchy and upbeat and the lyrics are apparently about someone who is very ill! Some of the fun lyrics include "I've had my lungs checked out with X-rays, I've smelled the hospital hallways" and the chorus "Someday I'll have a disappearing hairline, Someday I'll wear pajamas in the daytime". Two other songs that are almost as catchy and have great lyrics are "How Does a Duck Know" and "I Think I'll Disappear Now". I won't spoil the lyrics on these two songs for you, but you can tell from listening to the latter of the two I mentioned that someone who wrote this song had a bad experience with tequila!

I recommend this as an album of fun songs that can't be taken too seriously!

The epitome of outstanding original music!.......2006-02-08

I took a short trip back a few years (a lot few), I was 25 and my favorite CD was God Shuffled His Feet by The Crash Test Dummies. This was the second offering from the band, and a great follow-up to their successful debut "The Ghosts that Haunt Me" which featured the hit Superman's Song.

Superman's Song was always a favorite, but tunes like God Shuffled His Feet, Afternoons and Coffeespoons, In the Days of the Caveman, Here I Stand Before Me, and many other tracks on this CD just connect with the wondering human being in all of us. They're songs filled with questions and concerns, but also filled with a fire that strikes a chord of life.

The musicianship is top notch, and production is clean. I favor the sound of a tight rhythm section with a crisp snare; there is no shortage of syncopation here, and the drummer is outstanding. Nice acoustic guitar tones, great piano, and enchanting harmonies. Brad Roberts is known for his deep vocals, and here he really leaves his mark, especially on the most popular tune Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm.

Lyrically this album is refreshing. The writing is humble, inquiring, and clever, and most importantly devoid of cliche. This is music that makes you think, helps you understand and gives you a boost.

I still find God Shuffled His Feet to be one of my very favorite CDs. If you're into interesting, original, and good music you won't be disappointed.

Over a decade of listening!.......2006-02-07

I purchased this album back in 3rd grade when the single "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" was released around 1993. I am now 21yrs old and still listen to this album from start to finish. I am disappointed with their work after this album and wish they released another album with this kind of sound. Being from Brooklyn,NY I don't really like the folk rock/country genre being another album I listen to throughout is "Notorious BIG- Ready To Die". Having very broad musical taste and knowledge I would say this is one of the best non pop albums I have came across. I believe most people did not listen to it fully before reviewing it. I check crashtestdummies.com every so often to find that they aren't do much which is a shame.

A good soundtrack..........2007-05-06

...to a great movie. It's not as good as his soundtrack to "Afterglow" but a nice listen nonetheless. Without the great band members like Gary Burton & Charles Lloyd what can one expect?

One of my favorite film scores from Mark Isham.......2007-02-25

Mark Isham is quickly becoming one of my favorite composers. His work on the indie film "The Cooler" introduced me to his talents and I enjoyed what I heard. It wasn't until "Crash" did I really start taking notice of his work. Mark's work on "Crash" is a mix of ambient and classical with a glimmer of Middle Eastern (like on the song "Flames"). A lot of film composers have a terrible habit of creating loud, bombastic music that simply overwhelms the film and the person watching the film. Mark avoids the bombastic trappings of Hans Zimmer and John Williams by creating a more lush, haunting, minimal score that will leave a profound, moving effect on the filmgoer. One of the best songs on the album is "Flames" a gorgeous Middle Eastern-influenced track with ethereal female vocals that reminded me of Azam Ali and Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance. My other favorite song on the cd is "In the Deep" by Bird York. The song is a lovely folk/pop/jazz song that captures the emotional turmoil that occurs through out the film. I wasn't too wild about The Stereophonics track. It kinda killed the intimate sound Mark Isham created. At least Bird York's song had that same lush, intimate, atmospheric sound. While "Crash" wasn't perfect by all means, the music itself is perfect in every sense of the word at least to me it is. Too bad I can't say the same for his recent work for "The Black Dahlia".

broken box.......2007-02-21

Although the album is a perfect piece of art and the music has a total efect on the whole movie, tha box that came the cd was broken inside.. the teeth that holds the cd were not there and the cd was loose ready to fall when i opened the box..
Thats very unfortunate but still hasn't happened in the past, I'm amazon oriented customer, have ordered lots of stuff from amazon never had problems in the past! My best regards, Alex

One of the Best ever.......2007-01-09

Every now and again a movie comes along that impacts you so personally and deeply, you cannot ignore, or ever forget what it meant to you. This is one of those movies.
Crash will take you down to your very soul then drag you back kicking and screaming to reality and wanting to run away and hide.
Dealing with society's inability to overcome prejudice on a very personal level, Crash exhibits the ability to make you examine not only yourself, but everyone around you. You ARE racist. Every thought you have tells you that, good or bad.
There is no one actor that stands out above the rest in this movie, all are treated by the director as being of the same importance, but the viewer WILL identify with at least one of them. All put in performances well above that expected. From Sandra Bullocks affluent life down to Matt Dillons survival in a dingy apartment, through Don Cheadles family dynamic to Jennifer Espisito's implicit Racism, you will see what ordinary America is really like. How we all interact with each other on a day-to-day basis, how the decisions we make effact not only ourselves, but others around us.
It would be impossible to give the plot in less than 5,000 words, but this film has gained 3 Oscars, 36 other awards and has 56 nominations, and it was worth more.
THE film of 2005, will be in the top 250 for all time movies.

a profound disappointment,,,.......2006-12-27

There just isn't enough variety here to make the music memorable, and the mood is similar throughout. One looks in vain for a memorable melody or piquant harmony. anything but the doodling we have here which sounds like that of a 3rd rate composer. Perhaps this music works as background; as the "main event" the Cd is a "crash" ing bore!

The Crash Test Dummies are a band with a serious baritone voice (Brad Roberts). I mean his voice is really, really low! They are distinguishable since you just do not hear this type of sound a lot. The voice is backed by a fully, accoustic group. The musical accompaniment does not provided enough dynamics to simply deal with the voice. Hence, many of the songs sound similar.

"Winter Song" is tbe best tune because the band uses harmonizing. The song has nice chord changes and is a well written song.

"Coming Back Soon" is also good and it is the most uptempo song.

I do not know if I like "Superman's Song" because of it's novelty or because it is a good song. The song is a dead serious story about personal issues of Superman set to a drop dead harmony (What if Nick Drake sung a song about the Incredible Hulk? Now you get the idea.)

"Thick Necked Man" has a 17th-18th century vibe to it, it's an enjoyable song but bands like Steeleye Span/Jethro Tull do that kind of stuff better.

I bought this when it first came out but I have not listened to it in a decade. I cannot recommend this for the casual listener. You would be better off getting one of the "Mountain Stages" compilations with a live version of "Superman's song" and you will have all the Crash Test Dummies you will ever need.

I am not saying that this is bad. It is quality art. It's just that the songs sound the same and it is easy to tire of the cd

Known by many non-hard core fans as 'the other CTD album', "The Ghosts That Haunt Me" gives listeners at the time a slice of the unusual CTD sound that was perfected later with the amazing "God Shuffled His Feet" release. "Ghosts..." starts out very promising with the up-tempo number "Winter Song" that boldly announces that this band's sound is really non-mainstream, a very good sign, but subsequent cuts steadily drag the album down with melody that just doesn't seem to hit its mark. "Superman's Song" ultimatly is the best cut on the album and a fine cut it is indeed. Production values are fine leaning a bit more 'violiny' and 'harmonica-y' than the later "God..." effort, which was given a more streamlined bottom heavy production. Overall it was a fine effort for the band, but pales in comparison to their next release.

Got me hooked on the band..........2005-08-12

Last summer I was repairing computers at a local school, and my coworker decided to take a coffee break. When we went down to the gas station, he put this CD in his car stereo. I instantly fell in love with the style of the music. Compared to some of the stuff I had heard on the radio in recent months, it was a breath of fresh air.

Some of the tracks are upbeat folksy tunes that are a satisfying blend of country and rock. This is all the tracks except the third and tenth. Parents be warned that the seventh track is PG-13 rated due to some explisatives. Most of these have to do with the country life with the exception of the eighth track which is a cover of Androgynous. The other two (three and ten) are ballads. The third is an insightful look at Superman, and the tenth is a bit of a surprise compared to the rest of the album, as it deals with Brad Roberts thinking about the day he dies. It's very thought provoking.

There's two other tracks that could have been on this debut album, but didn't make it. They were included on the demo tapes put out by CTD in Canada years ago and are "Fundies Never Have Fun on Sundays" (sung by Ellen Reid), and "Row Bullies Row" (the classic Scottish folk song). Ghosts is a rather short album, at just a little over 37 minutes, but it's a pleasure to listen to.

My favorite CTD album, hands down.......2005-08-04

This was my first exposure to Crash Test Dummies. A brother had the album, and it was very uncharacteristic of the music I was listening to and that was playing on alternative rock stations at the time--a strange blend of country, bluegrass-y...whatever... But it totally grew on me, and when I went back to college, I missed it, and so got the CD myself. Most other folks I've run into and played it for (including my college roomies), had much the same reaction. Now, 14 years later, when I called one of my old college roomies recently, he goes, "guess what I'm listening to?!" That's right, this album.

So what is it about this album? Most of the themes that come up in their later works, the dark melancholy, are there in this album, too...but unlike their later work, that dark melancholy has lighter themes next to it, but even more importantly, their themes are mostly treated to light, engaging, "happy" melodies and instrumentation ("Superman's Song" and "At My Funeral" are the two notable exceptions). That instrumentation, is also one of the joys of this album. Twangy, different string instruments, and just a full light sound mix with the light melodies and contrast with Roberts' awesomely deep voice to make a catchy, unforgettable, and easily-hummed mix that just stays with you.

Think of it as Crash Test Dummies having a great time while thinking some occasional dark thoughts.

That's why I like this CD best. There may be dark thoughts in there, but they're fun and happy and jangly in spite of them. There later ones seemed to progressively lose sight of the happy part.

And though there are times when dark and moody and depressing in music is good... I generally prefer the happy stuff. I could be shallow that way.

Pretty Good Band.......2005-06-02

I just finished listening to "The Crash Test Dummies" C.D. "The Ghosts That Haunt Me" and I thought it was pretty good. If you are in the mood for some relaxing evening music than this is the C.D. to have. My favourite song on this C.D. has to be Superman's Song. Although the C.D. is slightly short, it is still a keeper.

Groovy Classics.......2007-01-09

A great way to introduce the classics to the person who is too hip to listen to Mozart!

Remixed.......2006-06-01

Hmmmm....what can I say? Remixed is the 3rd album Bond has released, consisting of remixes of old favorites and several new tracks. For those of you who don't know, Bond is a rock string Quartet made up by 4 young women. Similar in style old Vanessa Mae.

The Album starts with an exciting opening, of Viva! (Orion Mix). This is made up from a remake of Antonio Vivaldi's Allegro from Winter (The Four Seasons). Its an enjoyable piece, very simple, but the drums and the occasional shouting of "VIVA!" makes it a great song.

The second track is a remix of one of Bond's more famous piece. Victory was a huge success, but the remix wasn't so in my opinion. The 'Sharp Boys Wild Strings Edit' was a strange one. It didn't contain much of the original. After a tedious drum beat and strange sounds for about 1 minute and 10 seconds, a short clip of strings come on the original melody. For the next minute more drums, then more repeating of the melody heard in the middle.

Third track was a remix of Wintersun. Wintersun (Bobby D'Ambrosio Mix) was basically the same, but a bit more of a disco style.

Again, with Speed (Crash Club Mix). Sam thing, but a lot more of the disco sounds. I actually found myself enjoying it more than the original! It really sounds like some one is...driving a car or something.

Fuego's remix (Caliete Mix) I also enjoyed more than the original. It has a longer introduction, and more music to back up the strings. It also has a very fast sita (sp?) solo in the middle, making it sound very Spanish!

Homecoming, Atlanta and Time are new tracks. Not my most favorites, but they are very calm, remind me of Asia. Except for Time which sort of gives you the feeling that all the clocks are moving at the same time. Bond also uses Clock sounds in the middle for effect.

Shine (Dubsharka Mix) is by FAR the best song on the album. Its a fantastic dance track, with a fantastic solo and playing in the song. Its a Bollywood styled song, making you think of India. I was a little disappointed however, since this song was released on their earlier album (Shine, 2002). Although I love it, they should have put the Indian Summer Mix on instead, which cant be found anywhere except on Atlanta/Time

Duel and Bond on Bond (Both 'Hectic Mixes') I just couldn't stand. They were absolutely ridiculous. Just having the tracks played twice as fast. If I wanted to do that, I could have gone into Media player and pressed Fast Forward x2.

The Last song is Jingle Bell Rock (Pussy Galore Mix). Its an interesting one, just jazzing up the original Jingle Bell Rock.

Overall, this album is great for something like a party, for its mainly disco music. Not the best Bond Album, but very good anyway.

However, If you are a big bond fan, I would suggest you get the Import (Includes 2 videos of Victory and Fuego) or the Japanese Edition (Includes and Extra mix of Viva!, original Jingle Bell Rock, Duel Indonesian Mix and Innocent)

Exciting!.......2004-09-07

I got Bond's debut album a couple years ago. Although not as exciting as Vanessa-Mae's album "Storm," it was better than Vanessa-Mae's debut crossover album "The Violin Player" and approximately equal to her third album, "Subject To Change." The Bond debut had a lot of energy, but to me it was begging for a little stronger beat.

So when I found a Bond remix album late last summer, I grabbed it! How cool can that be--a Bond remix album! Whoo-hoo!!!

When I got it home and listened to it, I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't quite remixed enough. I wanted the mixes to be hotter, and the bass and drums more pronounced. But under-remixed is far preferable to over-remixed, which is a problem with Vanessa-Mae's song "Storm." This is my favorite Vanessa-Mae song; the four-minute album length is not nearly long enough for me, so when I learned there was an 8-minute remix, I just had to have it! I had to buy this Vanessa Mae CD single from a store in England (via Amazon's used CD vendors) since I could not find it stateside. And I was very disappointed: The remixer had so vastly remixed it that not only did it lose all its energy, it wasn't even recognizable! So between over-remixing and under-remixing, I prefer under-remixing, thus I am happy enough with the remixes on this Bond album. But they could have done better, I think.

Although I was a little disappointed that the mixes not being spruced up quite enough, it does not mean I do not like this album. Au contraire! I love this album! It is an album full of energy, life, vitality! It is an album that I nearly always play very LOUD! It as an album that I play when I'm wound up, feelin' good!!! Nearly every song is fast, and the beat never stops!

The album opens with "Viva!", a song that is also found on their DVD, which I bought around the same time I got this album. What a perfect song to start this album with! A sample of a group of females shouting 'VIVA!" plays from time to time throughout, adding to the energetic playing of the strings. On the DVD, this song is backed with video footage from their concert at the Royal Albert Hall in England; in the video, when the shouts "VIVA!" are heard, fireworks shoot out from the balconies and the stage at the theater--so exciting!

The next song is the remix of their first radio hit, "Victory," which starts out with a hot Latin beat and Spanish guitars. "Victory" and another track, "Fuego," feature frenetic string playing. The best song on the CD for dancing--and my second favorite song on the album--is "Duel." This has a driving bass line and percussion beat, an upfront electronic synthesizer riff, and a beautiful ethereal female nonverbal vocal accoutrement, with tubular bells even added toward the end. Spine-tingling! Wonderful!

Although "Duel" and my favorite song "Viva!" rule supreme in the degree of spine-tingling awesomeness, they're not the only ones to bring such a pleasurable reaction to me. "Wintersun" is played with deep heartfelt emotion; "Atlanta" also is full of emotion. I like "Speed" and "Time" because of their European technopop sound, especially "Time," which has a nice melodic, minor key electronic keyboard riff. "Shine" has a bit of a Spanish or Italian flair, another of many romantic flavors of this album.

There are only two songs on the album that I don't care for. One I absolutely don't like is "Jingle Bell Rock," but that's because I hate the song, not because I don't like their version of the song. If I am forced to listen to that song, I would likely choose their version. The other one I like okay, but it doesn't do for me what the rest of the songs on the album do: "Bond on Bond." This is a track of them doing the James Bond theme. A cool idea, and it works, but again, doesn't float my boat. Fortunately, these two songs are at the end of the album, so I can just end the album at the third to the last song, which is also my second favorite song, "Duel"!

Most of the DVD's music comes from their first album, while this remix CD has the best of their first two albums. I now have their third studio album, "Classified," which I like better than their first album (I don't have their second), but no surprise to me, this remix album of theirs is clearly my favorite. "Storm" by Vanessa Mae is my favorite secular album of all time, all genres combined, so naturally in the genre of classical crossover it is my favorite. Bond's "Remix" is my second favorite classical crossover album. It reaches down and touches the heartstrings of my musical soul and stirs them up to make a fabulous and emotional listening experience for me!

Remixed not recommended for "re-listening"........2004-07-27

Bond has impressed critics with their somewhat controversial performances of classical-crossovers. From using trance beats to the sounds of African drums... there is no limit to how much and what they can do to enhance classical music that they play.

With Bond Remixed however; it is quite a drag to put it simply. The album is a total re-mix album, so think of it as a compilation of single re-mixes put together. But also, there are three original tracks by Bond: Homecoming, Atlanta, and Time. All three of these tracks rely a lot on synth sounds and trance beats. Which get boring after listening to all these re-mixes, but keeping in mind that it is a RE-MIX album after all... so although the originality of Bond's previous albums: Born and Shine are not there, it is because they are re-mixed.

One of my personal favorite tracks is Viva [Orion Mix], which for those who have the Bond Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD all should know (For those who do not know, it is an extra video on the DVD, a live performance of Viva). Though I would have to say it takes repetition of classical music to its red line. Another great track to listen to is Jingle Bell Rock [Pussy Galore Mix]. Great example of good trance, combined with classical sounds. Bobby D'Ambrosio's mix of Winter, originally named Wintersun, is interesting enough by creating a new intro into the song. The rest of the song is shorter with a different beat.

The rest of the tracks seemed to use the original songs, but just add a different beat, more bass, and more synth. It puts the name of "re-mix" to a shame. Besides Speed [Crash Club Mix] which adds more excitement to the song as it is called Speed, the listener is better off listening to the originals. The prime example of horrible remixing is Duel [Hectic Mix] and Bond on Bond [Hectic Mix] (It's funny how both of these songs were badly mixed by the same person). In Duel, Hectic makes the song more faster-paced and adds a synth sound to the beat, which has a deeper bass. The song relatively stays the same. As goes the same for the Bond on Bond mix, where there is only a different, harder dance beat added to the original song. Also, Shine [Dubshakra Mix], doesn't even sound different. After listening carefully, you will notice the very subtle addition of more tambourines. But it sounds exactly the same; I listened back and forth from the "mix" to the original on the "Shine" album, and could not really tell.

If you want re-mixed Bond songs, this is terrible album to try to find some. Re-mixes are supposed to be a variation of the original song, almost as if the mix was a whole new song. But these "re-mixes" are sad to listen to. I am ashamed for whoever compiled this horrible playlist of tracks. Also, the original tracks by Bond are not what Bond is noted for, as if they were rushed to do these tracks.

A lot of artists do a "filler" album. Bond may have used a re-mix album to give themselves a year off, either for time off recording, or to make more time to record their 4th album, "Classified". Most likely it was to give the girls some well-deserved time off after releasing "Born" and "Shine".

Any fan of Bond will most likely find this album oddly dissatisfying, leaving a caustic taste in the mouth, and a penetrating headache. I would not recommend this album, unless you are a die-hard fan. But please, if you are a first-time listener to Bond, listen to "Born" or "Shine".

*There is two videos that can be played on your computer however; a video of Fuego and Victory, are fun to watch. But they are from their other albums, Victory from "Born" and Fuego from "Shine".

Good remixes.......2004-06-19

I generally stay away from remix albums simply because it's tough to improve on an original. However, I'm a huge fan of techno music and these remixes are heavier fixed with the sound of the dancefloor than the original tracks are. As you can tell by some of the reviews, some people love this, and some hate it. I think the ones that hated this CD are not fans of modern dance music and miss the whole point of dance CDs to begin with, so you can't judge anything by what they say.
This is a great dance CD, period. For the more consertive use of dance beats, see any of Bonds other releases, but this one is definately for the club fans out there. Another killer dance CD I want to suggest is Mr.Deviant's "Techno Obsession" which mixes power rock with killer dance beats to create some very original dance music. Both CDs are great!

Looking for a song title.......2007-03-06

Someone help me with the name of this song please from Crash. It plays just before Maybe Ttomorrow (while people throw wood on a torched car that the policeman ditched after accidently killing Don Cheadles brother). I believe it has some foreign lyrics and has a recurring piano chord.

'In LA, people don't touch. They're separated by glass and steel
and the only time they come into contact is by crash'. And with these words Paul Haggis tears open the box of CRASH, one of the most searingly vital and important films of the year. This is a film that explores prejudice, racism, fear, hate, bigotry, random violence and all of those barriers we people of the cities have erected to isolate ourselves from the miscegenated world in which we live. In Haggis' hands every possible form of miscommunication based on ignorance and transference of self-loathing is woven together in a story that mixes Caucasian, African American, Asia, Persian, Hispanic conflicts and lifestyles and the concurrent disruption of world views gone wrong into a pungent story of tragedy and collision.

Every character in this well-crafted script eventually confronts every other character in ways that are at times coincidental, at times, tangential, and at other times the direct result of prior confrontations. African Americans bully each other over their own prejudices, Caucasians belittle their Hispanic workers and are the first to point the finger at the 'tattooed gangsters' who in reality are innocent tradesmen, Persians terrorized on their property immediately aim their hate at other minority suspects, redneck racist policemen thrash out at African Americans in response to their own personal family demons that have eroded their outlook and extend that venom to the most innocent of the rookie cops who metamorphose into like habits. Every form of prejudice and hate is encountered and none of the characters is free from being both the perpetrator and the victim. It is as though the Golden Rule of 'Do unto others as you would have others do unto you' has been hideously transformed into a reason for violence.

People left the theater stunned, tearful, informed, and incredulous, so great is the impact of this film. Much or that impact is aided by the brilliantly creative cinematography of James Muro and Dana Gonzales and by the powerful musical score by Mark Isham. Not only is Isham's score reflected in this CD, but there are also bits and pieces of music that reflect the vision of the composer, the writer, and the director and force those who have been exposed to this giant of a film to reflect. This is quite simply one of the finest films of the year by anyone's standards. For those critics who descry Haggis' lack of providing 'Redemption' for the characters, this viewer would take offense: every character is altered either tangentially, directly, or referentially by the tightly woven tapestry that is CRASH. Buyer Beware - Packaging Deceptive.......2006-02-22

I'm listening to this CD for the third time since I bought it this past weekend, trying to figure out why it is not what I remembered from the movie. The music is OK, although not exactly my taste. However I kept asking myself why did I like the music from the movie so much when this doesn't do much for me. Was it merely the context of a GREAT movie? From an Amazon search, I realized that there are two different (but visually very similar...same graphics, different photo) Crash (the movie) CD's... the actual Soundtrack and the "music inspired by". Whereas I have no criticism of the music itself, the packaging is extremely deceptive, and irresponsible. I will buy the "real" soundtrack and probably never listen to this again. ($15 wasted). I would also have to comment that the "inspiration" referred to on the cover is also a serious stretch of the truth. This is a pop-hip-hoppish album whereas the actual soundtrack is a Mark Isham piece... very different. And, the cover says "music from and inspired by".. which is only true on a technicality. There is only one song on this CD that is on the soundtrack. To those who knew what they were buying and like this music, more power to you. But I would imagine that I'm not alone in mistaking this CD for the actual soundtrack, as it was the only only Crash CD in the soundtrack section of my local Borders. I would encourage record labels to differentiate the graphics on two very different CD's so that consumers get what they expected. Confusion like this doesn't serve either audience.

Last great Travers album.......2007-04-06

I have this on vinyl, been a Pat fan since '78 - I thought Black Pearl was a great record until I listened a little closer. "Crash" is Pat's crossover into the serious keyboard fixation, without losing the great guitar work... I still love his playing, even after all these years.

Great Great Album.......2006-01-12

This is by far the best Pat Travers album ever. I've had this album since college. The songs are almost voodoo blues yet mesmerizing rockers that overlap each other with depth and complexity. The album comes across as intense and dark, but much of this music is melodic and airy. My personal standout here is "Can't Be Right", but every song is fantastic. Pat Travers is a true musician who has stood the test of time. I hope he continues writing such impressive music for many more years to come.

Received my item with no problems and the CD was new and sounds great. I appreciated the fact that I could still find this CD. This CD has the title song which was a hit and check out "The Big Event" track

This one takes the cake. Travers was at his pinnacle with Crash and Burn. Solid rocking guitar work and amazing keyboard work as well, for the underated Ottawa, Canada native. I remember when this album was released, bought it, and brought it with me everywhere I went, turning everyone who listened to it into a Pat Travers fan. Seeing him play these songs live will always be one of my best musical memories.

More Burn than crash.......2002-01-24

Pat Travers is one of the most underrated guitar players, singer/songwriters in the universe. While I feel his best work was to come...the first four tracks on this CD are great and well worth the purchase.

His guitar riffs are varied and show alot of range without dragging on and on like so many axe men of that era. His rough, soulful vocal style fits like a glove.

The foray into jazz/rockish keyboard compositions are but a slight detour from the real strengh of PT...guitar based hard rock!! Track 8 is laughable. Thank god he came to his senses and avoided that light wieght rubbish in future recordings.

A Crash Course in Roses finds Boston-based singer-songwriter Catie Curtis streamlining the sound that made her 1997 self-titled release a critical breakthrough. While Curtis clearly works the same musical and emotional terrain as Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter (who sings backup vocals here), she lacks their lyrical and musical bite. Pretty good.......2004-07-03

I heard the song 'Troubled Mind' from Truth From Lies and was amazed, so I immediately went out to look for the CD ... they didn't have it, in fact, they didn't have anything by Catie Curtis in the record store. I was disappointed but decided I'd wait until I had more money to get it off the internet. I still don't have it - but, I stumbled upon this CD at a used music store and decided to buy it since I liked 2 of her other songs.
This is such a mellow CD, a perfect listen for those lonely or moping around days. I am so glad I bought this gem. Some songs speak better than others, my favourites being 100 Miles, Fall Away, Wise To The Ways, Burn Your Own House Down and Magnolia Street. Even though some songs seem lacking such as Gave Me Love which seems to repeat too much and Start Again which sometimes seems a bit boring, this CD is a great listen and a good buy, I recommend it to anyone.

Let me play just one more song.......2003-10-15

Even if the world "don't owe her nothing," Catie Curtis is still willing to lay her troubles down and play one more song. Many songs seems to be dealing with the confusion we often feel in relationships when our world if falling apart. Whether it is a relationship where you have been completely honest or one where you have secrets.

Catie Curtis delves into the world of pain, love, loss and even hope. You can hear the longing for unconditional love in her lyrics. She seems to be singing about a woman who has a deep need for understanding and is exploring life in a thoughtful way. The lyrics also express the desires of a heart that is ready to fall and fall hard, but only for someone willing to help her understand the complexities of relationships.

"Gave Me Love" - Seems to be speaking about a friend who loves unconditionally. Maybe the type of friendship we all secretly desire and sometimes try to give. "Don't give up on me now."

"World Don't Owe Me" - If you have ever realized how much we are not owed and how blessed we are by gifts from friends we never thought we'd ever meet or gifts we receive as surprises. This is about resolution, about just sitting back and saying that even though we are not "owed anything" there are things that could make our lives easier and happier and more beautiful.

"100 Miles" - One of my favorite songs. If you've ever wondered where you are in a relationship this will make so much sense to you. It seems to deal with insecurity and a fear of ending a relationship that already seems to be ending on its own. I love the lyrics:

"It's gonna rain, it's gonna pour
Through sickness and worse can I love you more
You carried me when I fell
Can I carry you, can I love that well."

"Far Away" - A wistful song about taking a lover for granted and asking for a deeper commitment. "Are we building trust, or just taking chances?"

"Wise to the Ways" - She doesn't know what makes her cry anymore. Does this mean she is crying over everything? A world-weary song. If she said what she should say, she would be screaming. A stark picture of reality.

"What's the Matter" - The moon dances on the waves in a town where there are no city lights. She questions why people fear other people because of their choices or backgrounds, religion or nationality.

"I'll Cover You" - Mysterious and caring all at once and strikes me as being quite beautiful in meaning. If you were ever worried about life, this is the song you'd want to hear a friend sing. Emotionally satisfying.

"Burn Your Own House Down" - Seems to be speaking about a friend who is giving up on a relationship and wants to destroy their world. Maybe it is about staying in a relationship and trying to find love where you first found it. How often does anyone believe in you and tell you that they see hope in a failed relationship? She seems to be saying that her friend should look at the relationship from a new perspective.

"Roses" - An entire landscape of emotions.

"Look at You Now" - Tribute to a friend who made it through the tough times.

"Stay Up All Night" - Sassy seduction. If she could just stay up all night with the person of her dreams.

"Magnolia Street" - This song really gets to me. It is about destiny and knowing you love someone when you first meet them. "A dream, but it's true, I am not the same since I met you."

"Start Again" - Cute lyrics about a second chance.

Hidden Track - Keep listening after Start Again. A song appears! ;)

I love Catie Curtis' voice and how it mingles in an ethereal beauty within an intimate circle of warmth created by the added energy of improvisation. Each song is filled with deep feelings and lots of introspection.

When you are absolutely floored by an album from a genre that is nowhere near your favorite, you know it's great. I bought this CD after hearing the beautiful "100 Miles" on public radio, and was delighted I took the chance. This is the best album of 1999. No question. Curtis gives her singer/songwriter folk songs an occasional rhythmic kick in the pants that does wonders for them. "World Don't Owe Me", "Wise to the Ways", "What's the Matter", "Fall Away": all magnificent. The second half of the CD is less astonishing, but overall this is highly, highly recommended. That voice! Beautiful and ordinary, like your dear friend who sings. Clever, understated lyrics that cling to you like benign leeches. This is the kind of CD that makes you wish you knew her. Buy this.

40 BELOW AVERAGE.......2007-01-10

I've always enjoyed the music of 40 Below Summer. Their most recent album, The Last Dance," is a mediocre effort at best. Songs that do stand out include "New Age Slaves" and "Relapse" however the 7 remaining tracks we're obviously slopped together in an hour's time. 40 Below....you're better than this and you know it. If you do come back to record another record, put some heart into it.

ill make it short and sweet, i love 40BS. max's voice is simply amazing. this collection of demos and unreleased material and the dvd of their last concert and some videos is a great way to end the great run of an amazing band. i only wish they would stay together and make more anazing albums like this and their others that no one else can do. its a great continuation of the morning after and close to the 40BS story. at least there is one good thing to come out of this and that is that max and a few of the guys are going on with the band ''black market hero.'' i've heard some of their material and i must say it sounded great even for demos. kind of like a more agressive 40BS. i cant wait for it!

Good finale.......2006-11-07

While the 40 Below Summer we know and love is gone in name, they have resurfaced as Black Market Hero, with some new members. The best part of 40BS was Max and his awesome voice, so we haven't lost that. Check out their myspace site. There are some demos of new material. Definitely a reinvented 40BS. The last dance is a great value. The DVD is actually worth watching more than once. That is not the norm with free dvds that come with cds.

More of the same and that's a great thing.......2006-11-05

This is the last we'll see from 40 Below since the band has broken up, but this is a great way to go out. Last Dance sounds like a continuation of The Mourning After. This is a band who has stuck to their story. They don't explore different genres of music because their music is so undefinable already. If you liked The Mourning After, you'll like Last Dance. Let's hope they can somehow find it within themselves to reunite (with a new bass player if necessary) and continue to make music like this because nobody else can do this.

A great relief for those who miss Eiffel 65.......2007-05-15

I love this CD! I was so excited about getting it when I heard the two Eiffel 65 members were the two in this band, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the music is really similar to Eiffel 65. Hopefully they'll go on to make more.

Bloom 06 is two of the three members of Eiffel 65, which are unfortunately, only remembered as a one hit wonder in the United States for their 1999 hit "Blue (Da Ba Dee)". In the genre of electronic/dance music Eiffel 65 were a great torch bearer until problems with their label resulted in them losing a member and having to change their name to Bloom 06.

"Crash Test 01" demonstrates the band's willingness to grow and mature thematically and musically. There are a few songs here that remind me of Depeche Mode ("When The Party's Over") and Erasure ("In The City"), but overall Bloom 06 sounds like Eiffel 65, except without the distinctive vocoder voice which started to disappear on their third, self-titled disc, "Eiffel 65". "Crash Test 01" has eight songs, but, for the most part, each song is a keeper. I think my least favorite is "Per Sempre". "In The City" was a good first single, along with "When The Party's Over", "Don't Say These Words", "The Crash" and the moving, but enigmatic "The Old Field Of Angels". Five songs are in English and three are in Italian. Eiffel 65 is one of the only Italian bands in my cd collection, and I've been collecting for a long time. I would venture to guess that besides Il Divo, they might be Italy's best selling and best known band for Americans.

The bottom line is, if you liked Eiffel 65, you will also enjoy Bloom 06. Is it worth the steep 22 dollars? It won't be if you're a casual listener, but for myself and others who are hardcore listeners, it will be worth the money and the wait.

This CD reminds me why I listen to music-it is an absolute Italian masterpiece. Don't be fooled because there are only eight tracks; each one is brilliant.

Now that Eiffel 65 might be getting back together, I think this is a dream come true. There will be Bloom 06 AND the new Eiffel 65-thats two for one!

k first attempt at amazon.com review. I have been an Eiffel Listener all since the "Blue" days. Once I heard that Eiffel 65 was breaking up it was heart wrenching. However once word hit of "Bloom 06" forming my spirits lifted drastically. If you have heard Europop then Contact and then hopefully self-titled Eiffel 65 cd's then Bloom 06 is everything you have hoped for. All in all, it is beautiful and extremely well written and should never be missed by any eiffel fan. EIFFEL IS THE BEST EVER AND BLOOM 06 LETS ME LIVE THROUGH IT AND I THANK GOODNESS THE ERA AND EPIC LIVES ON.
