It's a shame that Urban Mystic is not advertised better. He needs to change record labels. He has a great voice but many people have not heard of him. His first ablum was off the tracks and the follow up is right behind it. Check him out.

This cd is not at all what I thought it was going to be. It is actually better. He knows how to capture the attention of many women. The lyrics to most of the songs on the album are beautiful. He says all the things that a woman wishes that a man would say and mean it. Men take notes from this man!!! He knows what to say!!

Without getting into a long rant here...but I can't help but to say it...
This Cat here can blow! I mean he really can sing. Not just a mediocre singer that sounds good with the benefit of a good melody.
No...this young brother can wobble.

1. Wobble;(waa-bul)Term used in Rythmn and Blues retro languages referencing to one who has a great singing flare.

His junior CD has really got good a retro-soulful appeal. This as we know, is something that is missing in our music today.
He can easily be compared to other vocalists, such as K-Ci Hailey, Anthony Hamilton and Jahiem. But his deep rich, unique raspy Southern-style vocals will definitely stand him above and beyond these mentioned counterparts.

Urban Mystic is truly magical! A must have classic...don't sleep!

Mystic Harp 2 is one of my favorite albums--maybe the best of the celtic/new age hybrid albums available.

Personally, although I really like the first one, I actually think that this one is better. Why? Largely because I think the melodies are actually a little stronger on this one than The Mystic Harp. Those were good. These are great. The composer, Donald Walters, really seems to have benefitted the second time around from having already "got one under his belt," so to speak. The melodies are very rich, textured--even profound. And Derek's playing, as always, is simply the best. You can really feel that these instrumental pieces mean something--both to Derek and the composer. They're not just Celtic "sound-alikes"--rather they sort of go beyond pure Celtic music and capture, as the title promises, a feeling or hint of something more mystical.

This is not really a Derek Bell CD, but a Donald Waters CD. Bell is only the main performer. If you are looking for Celtic music do not buy this! If you are looking for the most mind-numbing, saccharine-laced New Age music you have found it. Now I like good New Age music, but that quality does not apply to this release. Bell is a fine performer, his Chieftans heritage ensures him a firm place in the annals of modern Celtic music. It is good that after so many years of doing traditional music that such artists branch out and do something a little different. Some of the finest Celtic music I have heard is played on the harp. Bell is an excellent musician and should feel ashamed for participating in this travesty. The cover describes this as 'Music in the Celtic Tradition,' but that applies in only the most broad sense of the term 'Celtic.' There is much talent here, Waters' as well as Bell's, but it is wasted. Soft music should be moving and stirring in a deep spiritual way, and should not create a false sense of peace by numbing the listener into a daze of metaphysical-musical boredom.

      This is a compilation of some of the Mystic Moods first albums for the Philips label in the period 1966-67. It is also track for track known as "Another Stormy Night" available as an lp on the Bainbridge label(BT6216). The album One Stormy Night was Philips' best selling album of '66. The last album for the Philips label (the home of their best work) was '72's "Country Lovin Folk". After that they went to Warner Brothers and got really funky with some new age junk ("Highway One" etc.) that's still out there in DTS form. Brad Miller, the founder and producer of the MMO, died in September of 1998 and his early Philips MMO catalog went with him it seems. Various MMO albums are available on the net in lp, cassette, and cd form. Most are used and some commanding hefty prices. Your best bet is to look for used cd copies at resonable prices. If you still have a turtable many of their best abums are still available in factory sealed condition if you search hard enough. Sadly, all of the MMO's best work is out of print. The original Philips catalog of MMO albums went through a number of label and title changes. "Moods For A Stormy Night" used to be "The Mystic Moods Of Love", "Stormy Night In London" started life as "English Muffins" and "Mystic Moods Country" was originally called "Country Lovin' Folk" (as all the titles were indeed folk songs). The best of the MMO Philips (and later Warner Bros., Soundbird, and 1/2 speed mastered on Bainbridge) titles are "One Stormy Night", "Stormy Weekend", "Nighttide", and maybe "Love Token" (good luck finding this one) "Summer Moods", and "Another Stormy Night". Some are available on cd if one can find them. On line stores list them but never have them in stock. A good "best of" is a cd called "Summer Moods" -if you can find it-grab it! "Summer Moods" track for track is also known as The Best of The Mystic Moods vol.2. For early MMO fans Brad Miller's death was a real tragedy. Hopefuly someone will resurrect the old Philips catalog of MMO albums. They were the best of what fans remember.

      I ALSO AM LOOKING FOR A CD BY THE MYSTIC MOODS ORCHESTRA. IT IS A 3CD SET BY THEM ENTITLED,ROMANCING THE STORM. THE FIRST CD IS ENTITLED AS "STORMY WEEKEND." THE SECOND IS "ONE STORMY NIGHT." AND FINALLY THE THIRD IS "MOODS FOR A STORMY NIGHT." I BOUGHT THIS 3D SET IN 1994 THE BAR CODE IS O 1130-15128-2 6. MY DAUGHTER TOOK THIS SET OFF TO COLLEGE WITH HER AND IT CAME BACK WITH ONLY 1 CD IN THE CASE. I HOPE ANYONE KNOWING WHERE THIS CAN BE PURCHASED, WOULD PLEASE POST A NOTICE FOR ALL OF US...THANK YOU.

        This is an excellent CD. It is one of the best CD's I've heard in several years. Urban Mystic is comprised of real singers -- not studio singers. I bought the CD for the song "I Refuse". But I am happy to report that there are several songs just as good or better. The song "Where Were You" is one of the best songs I've heard, bar none. Buy this CD now. This CD will enhance any music collection.

        This "best of" album by the MMO is also available (track for track) as "Summer Moods". The latter may be easier to find. If you still have a turntable (remember them?) many MMO titles are available on the Bainbridge label (1/2 speedmastered yet!) for very little money. All the early Mystic Moods cds (their best work) are out of print now and usually fetch collectors prices w-h-e-n you can find them. Good luck!
