Customer Reviews:
Capture the essence of a live show!.......2007-06-03
No matter how long you've been listening to RBF, this album is sure to please. With awesome recordings and live antics, it appeals to any kind of listener
For older fans, it showcases their best work, with fresh recordings and pleasurable stylized versions of songs. These unique performances give a variety to those who already own the original CDs, and make the purchase worth it.
For new listeners, it invites you to see the breadth of their work. And, like a live show, it builds as it goes on, so listeners are encouraged to listen through to the end. This compelling nature of each track leading to another gives their music a great, fresh feel.
For the low cost of this album, and the immense length of it (over 3.5 hours), including a DVD with an entire show, make this a great deal all around. I can't think of another live album I've enjoyed so much.
AMAZING!!.......2007-05-08
Best RBF album yet. Hilarious and great music. A must for any RBF fan or any human actually.
Their best live album!.......2007-04-10
Fans of Reel big fish and fans of ska and the like, rejoice. Finally Reel big fish released a live album. Giving people the chance to experience the magic of RBF live. Although it still doesn't beat going to their show, it gives you a nice look of what they have to offer. Especially (The many versions of) S.R. gives me the feeling of standing in front of a stage where they go and have fun with music.
A must have for fans of Reel big fish and a recommendation for everyone who loves ska or just music in particular.
If you like hepped-up ska. . . ........2007-04-10
. . .this album is for you. Few live albums catch the true feel of a band in the concert hall, but this one does. I've seen RBF live, and this CD (with bonus DVD) does one of the best jobs of replicating the experience. Okay, I'll admit, Aaron and Scott's "witty" banter gets a little annoying at times (damn, need the Tivo for music), but the energy of the songs makes it worth putting up with. This band like few others know how to engage an audience in a show, and the CD captures that experience as best as is possible. No ska band playing today can match their horns (sorry, Bosstones fans). Don't miss the chance to catch RBF live, but if you can't do that (and even if you do), this is the next best thing to being there and having the F-bombs dropped on you in person.
It kicked my @$$.......2007-04-04
This is the best CD i have ever purchased. It sounds awesome for having been recorded live and the diolouge is pretty entertaining and just fun to listen to. 2 CDs and a dvd for 15 bucks its a steal! seriously if you even kinda sorta like ska youll effen love this cd. Its an andvanced cd so it doesnt play on older cd players...like mine. I just ripped it to my comp and then burned it and that seemed an easy way around that. realy this is an amazing album.

Was this his idea?.......2007-07-08
I really loved this guy on RockStar INXS: he was an exciting performer with a gorgeous voice and fresh take on the classic music he was given. I loved him so much that I was predisposed to love this CD.
And now, I'm disappointed. Mig has taken some great old rock songs (and some real schlock - seriously, "Kiss From a Rose"?) and turned them all into interchangable easy listening dreck. Any of these covers could be the theme song for Dawson's Creek or One Tree Hill or some other teen angstfest on the WB. That statement alone should tell you everything you need to know about this CD.
With any luck, Mig will be given the opportunity to release another CD, and he'll show us the genius I know he's capable of on that one. I'll be waiting hopefully.
Two stars because the original songs are slightly less awful than the covers.
Worth the Wait.......2007-07-05
I was very impressed with Mig when he was on Supernova. now i am more impressed. It was well worth the wait.
I love Mig!.......2007-06-27
I watched Mig on the Rock Star TV show and loved him. I knew I would buy his CD if he made one and I'm happy to say that he made a great one!
What A Great CD, Mig!.......2007-06-13
I bought this CD as soon as I knew it was released. Mig was my favorite on Rockstar INXS. I love every song on the CD especially the original ones. I think a CD with all originals should be next for Mig.
Love This CD!.......2007-06-09
I was lucky enough to catch one of MiG's acoustic performances during his tour and he is a fantastic performer! He has a great voice that really comes through on this album. "She Loved" should be a top ten hit! I can't wait until the next CD--would love to hear MiG backed up by a full rock band.

Released as a companion piece to the award-winning book Lullabies: An Illustrated Songbook, this hour-plus of music is a wonderful mix of stately classical themes and child-friendly vocals. The selections range from "All the Pretty Little Horses" to a global spread of lullabies drawn from classical and folk traditions. The music is spare, with Kapp on piano, Julianne Baird and Kapp's daughter Madeline on vocals, and Mela Tenenbaum on violin, viola, and occasional vocals. Most of the classical selections (from Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Edmund Elgar, W.A. Mozart, et al.) get a straight-ahead, accomplished treatment. Lest you think the project stuffy, each of the melodies is in the one- to two-minute range, which effectively mandates a stronger sense of flow than most children's collections. Kapp, who managed to create a visual and poetic flow in the Lullabies book, keeps things nicely in a groove here, knowing enough to segue into silly tracks about halfway through the CD to provide a wider emotional range. This album every bit as accomplished as the book. --Andrew Bartlett
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful!.......2007-02-14
I love this CD. It's very well-done, and the approach is different than most children's CDs - very refined, yet soothing. I don't get tired of listening to it the way I do others -- which is important when trying to get a little one to sleep! I highly recommend it and the companion book.
Simple and sweet songs.......2006-04-02
With just piano, violin and vocals, this is a simple and heartfelt album. Ms. Baird's voice conveys the full emotions that a mother feels for her new baby with clean and open singing. The first track in particular, "All Through The Night," still makes me teary. I played this in the hospital when my son was born, and we use it as part of our wind-down ritual. I do agree that some of the songs are a little upbeat for bedtime. We just skip those in the evening (using iTunes).
Marvellous cd, enchanting music.......2005-10-18
Our whole family loves this cd. I am continually charmed and refreshed by the subtlety, taste and musicianship that has gone into these arrangements of well- and lesser-known gems. Apart from the joy of the simple yet perfect chordal progressions, listen to the warm, caressing tone imparted by the low bass notes in the piano in many of the tracks. The pace is so wonderfully leisurely, there is time to savour each song or piece, and yet each lasts only two or three minutes. The three diverse yet complementary singers, each with a tender and gentle presence suiting the subject matter, give a sense of a 19th century family musical evening. Magical.
Good if you want to sing from the book but can't read music.......2004-02-10
I bought this solely because I have the book and wanted to sing the lullabies to my kids, but I can't read music. For this purpose it is fine. The songs are not in the same order as in the book but I can deal. As a stand-alone lullaby CD I wouldn't really recommend it--the songs are not sung in a soothing manner, there's lots of variety in tempo and volume, some are even sung up-beat. The voices are not pitched high enough for babies either. That being said, I am back on Amazon today to buy it for my sister who is due any day now with her 3rd kid--we both like to sing and have the book, and songs (in book or music form) are a great present that the baby won't grow out of for a long time, and helps you bond with your little one too.
Didn't like the voice........2002-12-11
I bought this cd to go with the book and it is very frustrating because the songs on this cd are not even in the same order as the book. The singing voice fluctuates too much, it will be really soft and then it gets really high pitch. And if you have the volume set at a lower level for some songs then you can't hear other songs. I think there are better cds to buy than this one.

Bernadette Peters has earned her distinction through hard work, sparkling talent, and a dizzying range of roles, yet one never feels she's "stretching out" beyond her abilities. This Grammy-nominated album from 1996 saw Peters strutting her tough kewpie-doll charm on everything from Elton John and Lyle Lovett, to (her favorite) Stephen Sondheim and Rodgers & Hammerstein. As a "pop" artist, Peters finds the soul of showmanship in even a wistful number like the Dylan song of the album title (a much less coy version than Maria Muldaur's with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band). For Bernadette Peters, personality is the liquor that drives an intoxicating performance. --Stephen M.H. Braitman
Customer Reviews:
Pure Hot Love - anytime she wants!.......2005-05-17
By far the most entertaining album that Bernadette Peters has ever done.
Love in various guises.
The title track, "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" is so hot, you're going to blow your...um..top. This is the definitive version of this song, better than the Dylan original. or anyone elses.
I hadn't heard this album for years and it's much better than I remember.
Funny.
From the opening "I Feel like I'm Not out of Bed yet", "I Make him Feel Good" thru "Woman Be Wise" /(Don't advertise your Man) (By Sippie Wallace), "I'll be Your Baby Tonight" there is a lot of music for the Second Chakra here. Bluesy. Earthy.
But also Fourth chakra: "No One is Alone". "Running on Faith", "What's the use of Wondering" display her command of the show type tunes she is normally associated with.
Spectacular vocal range. Expressive. and the hot tuba solos are just the right touch.
What a Sweetie Pie! She can sure be my baby anytime she wants. Pure HOT Love.
A great disappointment to me..........2002-01-11
I love Bernadette. I really do. But I hated this album. I cannot imagine what she was thinking. To me, the songs were bad choices for her, the arrangements were unpleasant, her voice was not at its best. I listened to it three times, and could not warm up to it, so I gave it away. I was so excited when I found it in our town's only music store, a place that offers few items which are not mass appeal productions. I have to say that it probably was the full-price purchase I regret most in the last five years.
Superb!.......2001-04-20
This is artistry at its best. Bernadette has entertained in as many venues as any artist, and is wildly successful at all of them!! This release shows off her versatility in a huge variety of musical styles. Memorable tracks are "Cupid", "No One Is Alone", "He's Got A Way" and "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight." In this release, Bernie is sultry, sweet, melancholy and flirtatious. 5 stars +++++++!
Bernadette Draw Back Your Bow Lips.......2000-09-03
and let's her talent flow in this diverse collection of songs for the romantic at heart. This album covers a wide range of styles of the romance songs genre: the playful 50's-ish "You Make Me Feel Good"; the touching re-make of the Beatle's "(She's) He's Got A Way About (Her) Him"; the chilling lonliness of "Faithless Love" and the 'sinfully delicious' "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight"-this CD take's you on a journey to the center of your heart and back, and then some, as only Bernadette can.
Bernadette once again takes my breath away........1999-06-15
If you are a Bernadette Peters fan, this cd is for you. Songs like RUNNING ON FAITH, NO ONE IS ALONE and, WOMAN BE WISE are breath taking! I think that this her best cd of all time. I would recomend this cd to anyone, fan or not.

Sharon.......2006-01-08
Just got finished listening to this CD. Sharon's favorite is the six minute version of "Rock Your Baby" and "I Get Lifted." I like all 17 selections, but those 2 are definitely the best.
Barry Gibb from the Bee Gee's Annointed George the Leader!.......2005-11-21
Barry Gibb from the Bee Gee's was interviewed on Entertainment Tonight, and he was asked the question if the Bee Gee's started the disco revolution; Barry said no - he said that George McCrae of Rock the Boat; he meant to say Rock your Baby, and Donna Summers were the leaders of the disco revolution; RIP, George.
Classic single plus pleasant filler.......2002-05-12
Actually, this is the 1974 "Rock Your Baby" album minus the final track "Rock Your Baby (Reprise)", which is also available as an inexpensive import with the original cover art. The title track is an essential soul/disco classic, but the rest is merely agreeable filler.

Album Description
When Susan's Room lead singer/vocal coach Susan Anders' friend Sukie had her baby Emma, Susan wanted to give her something more than some cool clothes from Baby Gap. So she went into the studio and recorded a CD of songs they had loved when they were growing up in the sixties and seventies: songs from the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and James Taylor, among others. She did them all in lullaby style so Sukie could play it when Emma was going down for a nap: everything is either guitar/vocal or piano/vocal, and vocals and instruments were sung and played very softly so there were no sudden loud sounds that might wake Emma up.
Sukie loved the CD, Emma seemed to like it too, so Susan started giving copies to her other friends with babies. Everyone loved it and wanted more copies for their friends, and eventually she decided to offer it to the world of newborns and their parents.

Excellent vocals and instuments.......2006-12-15
Long time fan of James Taylor, but was not familiar with "You can close your eyes". This rendition is superb. The vocals are in your room.
Sounds great in my car and home audiophile system.

I have been giving this CD to every new parent I know-they all report back that they love it because it has songs they really like, plus they say it really seems to help their baby fall asleep. I love Susan's voice, too.

Customer Reviews:
Great..........2007-07-06
but could have been epic. AFI's music transcends the genre boundaries quite well, and makes for great listening even when stripped down to a string quartet arrangement. Unfortunately Vitamin Records are so quick to capitalize on the band's success that they don't take the time to go over this album and fine tune it to perfection. As noted in the other reviews some of the songs are mislabeled. Further evidence of Vitamin Records' haste at caching in on this can be found in the lax musical arrangements, particularly on The Leaving Song Pt 2 (mislabeled as A Single Second). Although it is one of the standout tracks here one of the most powerful parts of the original song is the bridge, where Jade Pudget's guitar delivers a creepy albeit powerful build up for the final chorus. On the string arrangement the bridge is simply alright, and all four instruments play the exact same notes instead of the complex buildup featured on the original version. This problem plagues a lot of the album, the bridge on Girls Not Grey is less than stellar as well, the cello and viola take up too much space when the violins (lead guitar and vocals) should be more prominently featured.
Don't get me wrong, this album is amazing, and I love it, but it just urks me that it's not the epic that it could be. When you listen to Apocolyptica you know that they are truly feeling the music when they play Metallica, listening to this you can tell that these musicians are just playing some sheet music to pay the rent.
A Change of Mood.......2005-10-26
Well, I think this is a great CD - I love punk as much as the next man (Bad Religion, Pennywise, AFI, Strung Out etc) but even I sometimes want to relax and not jump around the room like an idiot. I found "Punk Goes Acoustic" a nice way to listen to great songs in a more mellow style, and this string quartet cd also does that perfectly. Definitely worth getting, or even buying for your mum for xmas.....
Great music that really makes you appriciate AFI.......2004-11-26
This album really shows off AFI's songwriting talents because it strips down the melodies to classical instruments, and it is performed beautifully. A must for any AFI fan or Classical, almost Opera-esque listener
Good, but what's with the titles?.......2004-09-08
If you like string music and you like AFI, you should certainly enjoy this. However, someone at Vitamin (the record company) apparently wasn't checking their facts - the entire track list is mislabled terribly except for two songs, and the label mishap apparently carried on over to Amazon.com. I've corrected the track list here:
1. Death of Seasons
2. Girl's Not Grey
3. File 13
4. The Leaving Song Pt. 2
5. Lower Your Head And Take It In The Body
6. The Nephilim
7. I Wanna Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One)
8. This Celluloid Dream
9. Exsanguination
10. Weathered Tome
11. At A Glance
12. Of Greetings and Goodbyes
13. Catch A Hot One
14. A Single Second
"The Last Kiss" isn't even on the album, but I think they got thrown off by the title switch on the packaging of Black Sails in the Sunset (where "Weathered Tome" and "The Last Kiss" were switched). Still, all in all, an excellent translation of their music into string music and a fairly varied selection from their albums.
Good.......2004-07-20
It is 1000000% better then the other tribute cd. I really enjoy this. Must have for AFI and Orchestra fans.

Great CD...only for lovers of classic Disco....Amazon got this CD for me...I had an LP...but that does not work anymore...But then this CD is a boon....They don't make artists like george MCCrae any more...only regret is that there are no lyrics on the sleeve of this CD...but a massive treat all the way...Enjoyyyyy!!!!
Classic single plus pleasant filler.......2002-05-12
This is the complete original 1974 album with original cover art. Tracks : Rock Your Baby, I Can't Leave You Alone, You Got My Heart, You Can Have It All, Look At You, Make It Right, I Need Somebody Like You, I Get Lifted, Rock Your Baby (Reprise).
The title track is a soul/disco classic, the others are essential variations on that model. More nostalgic than essential, but still good fun.

Product Description
Charity and the JAMband: Rock Your Socks Off is the third offspring of San Francisco's most hip-happy family music group, Charity and the JAMband. It's a jamboree of dance-happy tunes meant for the whole family to share. Grownups and kids alike will appreciate the musical sophistication and smart, imaginative lyrics. This is FAMILY music! From the adventurous chord progressions of the first track "Travellin'" to the celebratory songs and lyrics of "Cake" and "Happy Birthday Baby", the CD provides a soundtrack for boogie time fun. No one will be able remain in couch potato position with rockin' songs like "Jump into the Middle," "Partner Dance" and "Towel Tango." Grownups will re-discover their messy inner children with the song, "We Need Mud." All together, these songs are a moving, soulful celebration of life...family style.
Customer Reviews:
It'll rock your socks off, just like the title says..........2006-05-30
Charity and the JAMBand are an eclectic collection of performers, including Charity herself who is a mother of two children, a singer, a songwriter, and a mathematician. "Rock Your Socks Off" is her fourth album.
Charity's voice is sultry, versatile and beautiful. The band members's musical abilities are so full and intricate. I fell in love with this album, and through it my children get to have a more sophisticated experience of music than the typical toned-down children's cd.
I appreciate Charity's messages: essentially, love yourself and let it rip. In the "love yourself" category, "Whatacha Gonna Bring" celebrates our true selves, encouraging us to come to the party as we are. It's a fabulous reminder that we're perfect as is. So serves "Super Hero" - a song that points out the unique super powers in us all, even the oft-ignored characteristic of "puttin' a smile on someone else's face." Yes! Spreading happiness is, indeed, a super power.
The cd's not-to-miss song is "Towel Tango," a dangerous, unique, luscious song about self-expression using a towel as a prop. The sound is overboard and humorous and unavoidable - a real dance draw.
And when you must go out and save the day
Your towel can even be a magic cape
No need to pack your super power
It lives within you everywhere you go
"We Need Mud" isn't a toe-tapper, it's a fist-banger. You'll want to stomp, preferably in mud. Charity encourages: "We need our bare feet, we need our hands, can you smash it?" A chorus of children yells in response, "Yeah! Yes we can!"
In spite of its sensual tones, this is really a feel-good cd, from "Wish" with its lovely "dream for how the world could be" and "Peace Dream," a prayer for peace with soulful drums. "Breathe in the love, breathe out the peace" the song chants. What better way for children and adults to practice being with others in the world?
Dance and sing to Charity and the JAMBand and see how much energy you'll find in the music. Just make sure you have enough room for the kids to join you! --Caity McCardell

Good Low-priced "Best of" Collection.......1998-10-01
This collection is a nicely priced MCA re-release of an earlier Jolson LP. The recordings are clean and a good remastering of some of Jolie's finest and most popular pieces, however, contrary to the playlist above it contains all the listed songs except "My Mother's Rosary" and "Where the Black-Eyed Susans Grow". While the pieces contained on this CD can be got on other lenghthy compilation albums, this CD gives you the basic "Best of". Includes favorites such as "Swanee", "My Mammy", "Carolina in the Mornin'" and the title song, all reminiscent of the Jazz Singer's love for the people and the culture of the older South.
