About the Artist
It was back in 1991 that Kelman Greig (Mangomad) bought his first analogue synth, a Roland JX3P. Happily tinkering away for over a decade, Kelman was arranging and producing documentary soundtrack music before co-founding Yummi Records with Edinburgh breaks DJ/producer Silver Storic in 2003.The pair turned out some sublimely ambient pop under the moniker of The Masters of Truemanship. Their debut single, Sunshine Spirit was hailed as an uplifting slab of sunny, breezy, cool Edina reggae' by local scribe Irvine Welsh. Since then Mangomad has finished his debut solo album, Electrotherapy.
Product Description
Electrotherapy is the debut album from Yummi Records' Mangomad. The album opens with the infectious rubdown of Simple Theory, like Thievery Corporation with a sense of humour, this is underground music without the pretence. Mangomad's music has a true pop (though not chart) sensibility. Alluring and original melodies see a myriad of influences combine amongst nine genre bending tracks. Callum Maguire of seminal Edinburgh outfit Babacool lends his voice to the dreamy dub-lite of Your Beautiful Daydream, upholding a precise, yet warm production style. The album bobs and drifts to this unique poppy-dub; be it carried by a contagious rhythm or hook, the meditative mantras of See The Light, or the melancholic midnight blues of Search For Zen. An accomplished and significant Scottish release from an independent Edinburgh label.

Album Description
Electrotherapy is a collection of sound pieces based on studio recordings of early 20th-century electrical devices, including induction coils, a diathermy machine, an ultra violet ray oscillator, and a sectorless wimshurst machine. These devices were recorded at close range, and form the basic source material for all tracks on the CD. Thanks to Pete Barvoets, who kindly allowed me to record the devices that are part of his private collection. Scott Smallwood was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up at 10,000 feet in elevation in the Colorado Rockies. Smallwood is a sound artist who enjoys working with a wide variety of electronic and acoustic materials, particularly real-world sound and field recordings. His work has involved creating electronic music in the studio; and improvising as a percussionist, a laptop performer, and a performer of the Trinidadian steel drum. He is one half of the laptop duo Evidence, performs dance music under the name sCAUGHT, and enjoys writing structured improvisations for traditional and non-traditional instrumental ensembles. He has released recordings on the Deep Listening and Televaw Records imprints, and his work has been presented internationally in festivals, conferences, museums, clubs, coffee shops, swimming pools, rooftops, and dive bars. He is currently a doctoral student in sound and composition at Princeton University.
