On October 31· OneTwo Records continue to expand their quality soul stable with the long-awaited release of Chanel's 'My Life'. The track is backed by an instantly recognisable Crusaders sample, lifted from their classic hit 'Street Ufe', over which Chanel has layered a selfpenned soul track that has already become a cult hit thanks to a few copies that have filtered through to select radio stations and DJs courtesy of MAPP Records USA. The original promo found its way to the offices of Smooth FM (formerly known as Jazz FM) where the unsigned, unknown track was soon causing the switch board to jam every time it was played and has now become the most requested track on their playlist. Little was known about Chanel at this stage and it was only after OneTwo investigated that the young soulstress was uncovered, living in Philadelphia, and keeping herself busy working with the likes of Alex 'Godson' Richbourg (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis/Janet Jackson), Anthony 'TC' Cunningham (Kelly Price), Adam Blackstone (John Legend) and Kiesha Miles (Ciara). With a gospel choir background, a support slot for Floetry under her belt and idols including Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and Jill Scott, Chanel's soul credentials are firmly in place and 'My Ufe' looks set to be the record that takes her to the next level. This great collection just proves that Dan Hill is not only one of Canada's great songwriters (for those of you who hadn't heard of him before: he sort of disovered Celine Dion and later penned her classic "Seduces Me") but also a wonderful singer with a truly recognizable voice.

His tunes are very romantic, intense and personal - to say the least - but they really shine if you're affected by this sort of music.

A brilliant collection that leaves you wanting for more of Dan Hill whose recent releases have been very rare, unfortunately - even though this new collection does include the odd as yet unreleased track.

This is the ultimate collection of Dan Hill, very nice compilation of his greatest hits, I will recommand any fan to buy this CD.

I am sorry...I loved ABBA...I loved Agnetha but please, oh please do not buy this CD it is just horrible..not even my dad would enjoy it. C-class songs charged almost $42.00 bucks :(( This is not ABBA, this is not Agnetha or Frida or Benny or Bjoern...This is cheap marketing..so Do NOT BUY IT...it sucks...

For Hard Core ABBA and Agnetha Fans Only.......2002-05-30

Agnetha has always been my favorite member of ABBA. Without a doubt, it is her I watch everytime I see clips of the group performing. Over the years, so much has been written about Benny and Bjorn's composing before, during and after ABBA that no one seems to remember what a talented songwriter Agnetha was early on in her career. Arguably, her early songs were better crafted than Benny & Bjorn's early efforts like "She's My Kind Of Girl" and "Hej Gamle Man." The first disc takes us through most of her pre-ABBA days and shows just how quickly her songwriting a voice developed. If you love Agnetha's voice, I mean really love it like I do, the fact that you may not happen to speak Swedish will not impair your enjoyment of this music. Heck, after a few listens, you may even start to sing along with the chorus of "Jag Var Sa Kar!" The second disc takes us through her final Swedish solo work before ABBA took off. One highlight is the 1979 return to solo writing that she did for a compilation of her hits called "Nar Du Tar Mej I Din Famn." If she had released the English version of this song (available on "That's Me-Greatest Hits" called "The Queen Of Hearts") with slightly better lyrics, Agnetha may have had an international hit on her hands. The rest of the second disc touches on ABBA highlights, and highlights of her post ABBA solo career in the 1980's. This album made me appreciate the talent that Agnetha posesses. She remains one of my all time favorite singers. Thankfully, she may be recording a new album late in 2002, demo recordings have already been made. So if you like "My Love, My Life," you'll want to keep your eyes open for her next project!

ABBA and Agnetha admirer.......2002-01-24

Dear ABBA and Agnetha fans, do you know that there was the third CD under the same title? I even made the inquiry to ABBA fan club in Holland weather it was possible to order it and they answered that "it was a limited edition and it is ALL GONE, e.g. sold out"!!! What a shame!
But nevertheless I have already ordered 3 her pre ABBA works released in CD format and hope that the same people will do their great job till the end, e.g. will release all the rest Agnetha pre-ABBA and during-ABBA works.
This 2-CD compilation is a must to all Agnetha fans. I understand Swedish a little, but despite someone doesn't anyway it is pleasant to hear Agnetha's crystal clear voice.
Hope she will present her fans a new surprise.

A closer look at one of ABBA's leading ladies, Agnetha..........2002-01-06

This compilation will most likely be more enjoyed by avid ABBA fans like myself rather than the novice listener. Those of you who know, Agnetha (pronounced Ahn-yay-tah)is the beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed siren that led one of the most popular recording groups in music history. Here, we peek into the vaults of her solo work, which in my opinion showcase her exceptional vocal texture and emotion. While she may not have the range of, say, Ella Fitzgerald or Aretha Franklin, she has a unique sound and a soul that befits any wonderful female vocalist. My personal favorite of this set is the song "Utan Dej Mitt Liv Gar Vidare". This ballad, while in Swedish, is arranged in a style not unlike Patsy Cline's "Crazy". I don't know what she is saying, but it sounds lovely to me! In summation, there are too many great songs here to write about. If you are a fan of ABBA or just want to listen to music in a foreign language, then this is just for you. I promise you will not be disappointed. I only write reviews on items that I know firsthand are good and this is definitely one of my personal favorites. If you don't beleive me, just read my review of "ABBA - The Definitive Collection". I love you Agnetha!

Great song, nice try.......2006-03-14

For those of you out there that think Gwen Stefani did it better than the original, you really missed the point. It was the plaintive, soulful voice of Talk Talk lead singer Mark Hollis that made it such a memorable song in the first place. With a woman singing the song in basically the same key, it just doesn't carry the same emotional power, because she doesn't have to go way up to the top of her vocal range to cry out, "It's my life, don't you forget!" The instrumentation is pretty good on the remake, and it gives the song a little harder edge than the original, with it's moody synth texturing. It's certainly not better, just different. I give it 2 stars basically because No Doubt has given this great new radio life.

When I first heard this song, I didn't give it to much notice. It wasn't until I heard it the second time, and realized I knew all the words that I started paying attention. This song is absolutely amazing, and one of my favorite songs of all time. Everything about this song is perfection. Gwen sounds amazing, and the raw emotion she uses at times is superb. The music, as in instruments, are nothing short of amazing, and they all blend together so well. I've played this song way to many times to count, and yet I have yet to get sick of it. Just an amazing song, by an amazing band. Check it out.

It's MY song!.......2004-03-07

What a fab song! No Doubt and their lead singer Gwen Steffani just get better and better. Despite what some critics say I think Gwen's voice does do this song justice, she sings it with just the right amount of emotion and power and her voice is truly hypnotic as is her performance in the video, going from prison fatigues to sexy mistress in the blink of an eye.

The video is very dark and satirical and fits the song like a glove. Brilliant!

I first heard the song on the radio en route to work. I enjoyed it immensely and wanted to know who did the remake. No Doubt's redo of the 80's hit brought back good memories of the new wave era. But, of course, it does not compare to the original Talk Talk version.
