Argentina-born, California-based Gustavo Santaolalla helped shape the rock en Español movement by producing Mexican bands Molotov and Café Tacuba , and Colombian singer Juanes. In the late 1990s he made a switch to soundtracks, working on well-received albums for Amores Perros and The Motorcycle Diaries. His instrumental contributions to Ang Lee's tale of two cowboys in love are acoustic guitar-based and, let's face it, a bit on the sonic-wallpaper side.

The vocal tracks, on the other hand, are uniformly lovely, even if the selection of interpreters falls on the predictable side. Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, and Mary McBride on the soundtrack to a contemporary Western? What a shock! Still, they're all wonderful and Santaolalla wrote at least a couple of classic-sounding country ballads ("A Love That Will Never Grow Old," sung by Emmylou Harris, and "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me," sung by Mary McBride). And don't miss Teddy Thompson and Rufus Wainwright's sweet cover of Roger Miller's 1964 "King of the Road." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

This album is a mixture of the instrumental theme, which is incredibly beautiful and haunting, and some very solid country songs. I was surprised by how good the other songs were (you still have to like country music, though). There are only two songs that I don't like at all, and those are the two by Rufus Wainwright - one a cover of "King of the Road" (originally by Roger Miller). They are great demonstrations of him at his most nasal and whiny. It sounds like he is a French guy holding his nose and singing too slow. It's too bad, because they are good songs otherwise. I guess if you like him, you're golden; but I can't stand these versions. Fortunately, the rest of the disc is really good.

I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the music in the film, except for in the most intense of scenes. Perhaps this is why I was so, completely, disappointed with this soundtrack. I felt that if it did even half of what the film did for me it would be a worthy buy. My friends, this soundtrack is shat. It's mostly country and folk, which I am plainly not into. If you like these things then check this out - if not, turn away.

    This single was off the Faith Evans release, Keeping the Faith, which was fill with several nice recordings. However this single was a stand out. If your looking for songs for a wedding, this is a must add! The lyrics tell of a story of a woman's true commitment to her man. How strong her love is for him and how it will last thru times ups and downs. Not too sappy, and not over kill with unreal love. Just an old school favor...I love you this much song.

    But the best reason for getting this cd is the fact that Faith Evans is one of those singers that's going to last for time to come. A truly great singer with so much more to bring to her fans and those whom may not realize the talent she has until a later time.

    Didn't like this at first due to "girly" voice on some tracks, and it was in my overflow/dispose of rack, but recently heard a track off it on the radio (Bob Harris - BBC Radio 2) and decided to revisit. That annoying "girly" voice is still there on some tracks but there is also some good songwriting and musicianship here, Mark Stuart sounds like a young Buddy Miller, so maybe I won't throw it out after all. It's growing on me....

    The best Christmas gift these ladies could ever give me is another album with their beautiful voices on it, singing in sweet harmony. With new member, Amanda Cole in tow, these talented women have won my heart once more with this holiday treasure. Christmas is a special time of the year for me and my family and this album will make it that much better.

    My favorite tracks are:

    HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS (I simply love how they sampled the GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL beat and melody and re-worked into this holiday classic)

    SNOWY NIGHTS (The melody reminds me of Surface's "Happy"; very sentimental)

    MY CHRISTMAS [MY KWANZAA] (Love the sample of Love Unlimited's "Walking In The Rain With The One I Love" {originally written and produced by Barry White, R.I.P.}; My favorite line from it is: "Difference is good and it's understood that there is more than Christinas in our house/That's what makes it cool being family/You find the common ground and work it out!". Words to live by!)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY (Terry really tore it up on this one, good job Ms. E!)

    OH HOLY NIGHT (I've heard many versions of this old standard over the years and Cindy's rendition of it is quite emotional and spiritual)

    I've been an EnVogue fan since born to sing and I must say the girls have once again out-done themselves."The Gift of Christmas" is one of those Christmas CD's you must have in your holiday collection. The CD has something for everyone age 3 thru 93. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas proves EV still has style and grace. Snowy Nights is smooth with a hip hop fizz that all young hiphoppers will enjoy. O Holy Night and Merry X-mas Baby shows the girls versitility and there's much more. EnVogue has lost a couple members, but new member Amanda Cole steps up to the plate to show the world she has what it takes to carry on the EnVogue torch. Don't sleep on this CD because two members left the group. EnVogue is still alive making wonderful music...THIS IS A BRILLIANT CD!!! Thanks EnVogue you've done it again!

    En Vogue's Gift of Christmas is the 'tuxedo' or 'beaded gown' of holiday music. It's Classy! It's sexy! It's cool! This cd reminds us that there are entertainers out there that can actually SING! En Vogue does not need the trapping's (skimpy clothes,colorful hair weaves, overly choreographed videos) of today's so called 'super groups' to entertain an audience. They have pure,raw talent that can mesmerize and tantalize all at once! The Gift of Christmas takes you on a mystical and magical journey of Christmases past, present and future! I feel like I could be at the table of the Walton's or the home of the Huxtables feasting on the love of family and good friends, eating a scrumptious holiday meal and enjoying the true reason for the season, while listening to this cd.

    "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", and "Jingle Bells" takes me back to a place in my childhood that I would loooove to revisit! "That's What Christmas Means to Me" , "Oh Holy Night" and "What Child Is This" warms me body, soul and spirit! "Snowy Nights", "Merry Chistmas Baby" and "With My Honey" is where I dream of being very soon with that special someone. I would recommend this cd very highly to anyone wishing to dress up in their holiday best or to just kick back with some apple cider in front of a roaring fire! Yes, the group looks different, but Miss Amanda Cole is bursting with tremendous talent, beauty and style as does all of the En Vogue family, past and present!

    The 'Gift of Christmas' cd is the second greatest gift sent to us. En Vogue is truly blessed by God and is at their very, very best on this cd from start to finish.     Can't say that I'm a huge En Vogue fan...or a fan of most Christmas music in general, but I took a chance on this CD just to try a little addition to the Nat "King" Cole music I'll be listening to this Christmas. I must say, the CD is pretty darn good...the group sounds a lot fresher than they did on their last CD and the music on this CD is not all the standard fare. A little R&B, a little blues, some traditional stuff...even some Rock! I'm impressed.

    Brilliant. Simply excellent. The line-up with new member, Amanda Cole, is excellent and fits in perfectly with the perfectly flowing style of En Vogue.

    The old Xmas songs such as 'O Holy Night' and 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' are revamped and done perfectly. For the old fans of EV, you'll notice a brilliant suprise for 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus'. New songs like 'Merry Christmas Baby' and 'This Christmas' are pure genius and can only show a brilliant on going life for En Vogue.

    Faith Evans is a wonderful singer and is truly an inspiration to all future singers. "Never Gonna Let You Go" is my favorite song on her album. I'm even going to sing it in our school play. Listen to it and you'll love it!

    As the third single from her second set "Never gonna let you go" is a masterpiece. Between the lyrical talent of Babyface and the angelic voice of Faith, this is a knockout collaborations this is the song that should take Faith to the top were she rightfully deserves to be. Faith silky vocals sooth even the roughest souls. I hope that htis producer and artist hook up again and bless us. I think I've found my wedding song, now I just have to save enough money to have Evans sing it for me!

This song is a warm welcome back to the soul of Evans's debut "Faith Evans". Her last two singles were upbeat club spinners, while this one is more of a welcome for real rhythm and blues fans.

    I am rating this cd single a 2 simply becasue as a cd buyer, I feel cheated becasue all but one of the the mixes are edited but yet this is supposed to be a Maxi single. Such shannigans as this are what would really burn me up as a music buyer. To some extent this still continues today but I think it is not as bad. However, remixes today tend to sound alike, same 125 - 136 bpm same and not much else but a lot of repitition, so perhaps I am not missing much by these mixes being shortened but I wish the price could have been edited as well, you know, a standard single instead of a Maxi. Ok, rant over.

    When I first heard this song, I mistook Moore's vocal for Toni Braxton and then there is another song in which Tina does and her voice resembles Mariah Carey's. Having said this, I am not saying that the lady does not have any originality but just that if you have heard the two above mentioned ladies but not Tina Moore, you can get an idea of what to expect.

    The original is a infectious mid-tempo song that fares completely on it's own and a simply extended remix of the original version would have been great. Anyway the remixes are pretty good. The Warehouse Junkie Mix was the mix of choice back when I originally bought this single. Another mix in which I find catchy is the Late Night one which has somewhat of an old-school Disco-esque feel to it. I was not to big on Silk's King of Clubs nor was I too fond of the Kelly G mix which may be considered a 2-step mix. The Indasoul Mix has the same bpm as the original but with a more "Ghetto-vibe" and Hip-Hop beat.

    never gonna let u go burst on to the uk garage around late 95 early 96,the impact it left and made was massive to say the least,beacause u see this tune is house/uk underground/uk speed garage,at the time of its release it was the real start of the scene in london,its sounds housy but not as plain as many house tunes are,if u like dance music u need this classic anthem.
    Basically its like this, it still gets droped today in clubs all around london and never will you hear someone say this tunes old!!!-CLASSIC
