Hopefully you all be familiar with the first two releases of the Organic Soul series, if not you'll certainly want to have them after you have listened to this compilation. So far the label Soul Brother Records, an extension of the record store of the same name in London/UK, has brought artists like Ledisi, N'Dambi, Karen Bernod, Julie Dexter, Real Koffy Brown or Laurnea to the attention of a wider audience.

Organic Soul 3 gives us once more quality soul songs from the underground with the artists writing, producing and releasing their own stuff with no major labels involved.

If you have visited www.jazz-not-jazz.de/ before you may be familiar with Jazzhole and their 'Circle Of The Sun' album, from which we find 'Who Do You Love?' and 'Love Philosophy' on this compilation. Both tracks feature Marlon Saunders on vocals (whose album 'Enter My Mind' will be licensed to Soul Brother Records for a European release) and they still stand head and shoulders above what most major labels have to offer these days.

Yewande is a new singer to me but with a voice like hers, I guess I have discovered a new favourite artist. She's only represented with one song, but what a stand out song Rufus is! Written by Yewande and produced by Peter Lord & V. Jeffrey Smith (aka The Family Stand) Rufus is a storytelling soul song that digs deep into the soul's blues and folk roots.

Lizz Fields grew up in Philly, sang background vocals for Jill Scott and opened for the likes of Jazzyfatnastees, Cody Chestnut and Kindred The Family Soul. Although she certainly has her own style as you can hear on When I See Love and I Gotta Go, there are still some recognizable reminiscence of modern Philly soul of say Jill Scott or Vivian Green.

A raw and funky approach has Latanya Lockett that can best be heard on two of her songs Just One Of Those Days, an uptempo song that wouldn't have been out of place on a Fertile Ground album, and on the pleasant midtempo groove Neva Give Up On Love.

House music aficionado certainly know Big Brooklyn Red from his collaboration with Patrick Green (I Got Sunshine). Here Big Brooklyn Red is represented with three songs that shows us what a good soul singer he is. There's the ultra soulful midtempo groove of Time, the sun and summer inspired Paradise and the great The War Inside.

Further discoveries on this fine compilation include Sy Smith, who reminds me a little of Laurnea music- and vocalwise especially on the funky Bad On You, and Kim Hill, who's featured with Sunny Blue from her album Suga Hill.
Organic Soul is always full of quality songs from lesser known artist and part III is no exception to this rule. Don't miss it and make sure that you discover some of the best underground soul that's avaiable these days. (Reviewed at http://www.jazz-not-jazz.de/)

"Organic" is the word here -- as the music on the set is the real deal -- the best of the best of current underground American soul, a rich hotbed of creativity that's at its highest level in years! Call it NuSoul, Neo Soul, or whatever you like -- the American underground scene has returned soul music back to the place it was when we first started loving it years ago -- springing from the roots with a fresh creativity that cuts through all the BS that's been layered on R&B over the years. Most of the tracks on the set were self-produced and self-released by the artists involved -- and although a number of the tunes on here are available on the full length sets by those artists, the package is a great chance to sample a wide range of this music in one place -- with a focus on the best tunes of the scene! BBC reviewer, Zenobia Tiley, has been listening to Organic Soul, Volume 3. She says: "It's probably the best album I have ever listened to. It's soft, subtle, soothing and well, erm, soulful. I love every single song. No matter how many times I play it, I never get tired of listening to it. The album starts off quite upbeat and gradually gets more and more chilled. It takes you on a journey through different emotions and places. At times, it feels like the singers are speaking to you through the words of the song. I absolutely adore "Never Give Up On Love" (Latanya Lockett) - this should be the anthem for broken hearts everywhere! Then there's this great song about falling in love called "Sunny Blue" (Kim Hill) which is quite funky and uplifting. There are musical artists that are as good or even better than what mainstream gives us. Three of them are on this CD. It starts off with a young lady named YahZarah, and she puts her best foot forward with her three songs on this CD. Black star and Love Is You are really good songs about relationships of the heart. Nova, her other song is a cautionairy song about moving too fast.
The next three songs are from Julie Dexter. If you are not hip to Ms. Dexter check this CD out. Her three songs are PEACE OF MIND, WHAT DO I DO and one of favorites, KETCH A VIBE. All three are solid. The Kevin Chandler Band comes in with HIGHER, a very good song and next is ART OF DREAMING - a song so hot it's worth buying the CD for. NOMMO is a educated rap song to a jazzy beat!
Next is "The Real Kofy Brown," who gives us DO - a very good song, Ya Don't Stop - another good song, and WHAT COULD IT BE, a
very good song. The CD closes with No Style But Soul, who have three kinda funky songs, SWEET POTATOE PIE, GHETTO DREAM and BE WITH YOU.
This is real music with real in depth lyrics and great music flowing with the lyrics. This CD will have you thinking and feeling good. These are artists I would pay to see! I reccomend this CD to anyone who likes real soul music, with a jazzy groove!
