Album With Sci-Fi Title Actually Has Cautionary Message.......2007-07-12

I ROBOT, the Alan Parsons Project's breakthrough album, has a title that was inspired by Isaac Asimov, and was originally supposed to be a concept album based on his writings. However, unbeknownst to Parsons and Eric Woolfson, Asimov had given exclusive permission to someone else to use his stories, and so the band were forced to keep the title (without the comma), and use a different concept, namely the tendency of people to act in a robotic fashion and to believe everything that advertisers and the business community says. This interpretation has inspired me to hang up pictures of pretty actresses as a deterrent to believing the commercial world that certain products are good for me when, in fact, they're not. This is a CD which every serious progressive rock fan should own.

Great Remaster.......2007-06-20

The sound on this new remaster blows away the original Arista cd release, but still can't touch the MFSL version (which is no longer available, and used copies go for $100+). Probably the second best APP album (after Tales Of Mystery and Imagination) this should appeal to fans of Pink Floyd and science fiction.

Picture a memory of days in your life.......2007-04-08

A musical meditation of the "Rise Of Machine and The Decline Of Man," the second Alan Parsons Project album hit all the notes that "Tales Of Mystery and Imagination" missed. For starters, this was a straight forward rock album, without the debut's classical pretensions. It was also where Parsons perfected his atmospheric instrumentals, opening the album with the (precursor to electronica) title track and then ending with the moody "Genesis Ch 1 V 32." You do get the jarring soundtrack climax of "Total Eclipse," which I always guessed was where man got terminated from the scene.

For an album that dealt with the fall of the human race, "I Robot" is a surprisingly human affair. The slow beat disco of "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" and the dance floor paranoia of "The Voice" are anything but mechanical. The ballads of loss, "Don't Let It Show" and "Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)" could be about any typical heartbreak. Even Pat Benatar could spot the drama inherent to "Don't Let It Show," including it on her debut.

It wasn't just the drama and the sci-fi that made "I Robot" so interesting. It was the musicianship. Not as pretentious as ELP and bringing the acrobatics of Yes down to bite size nuggets, Parsons had no difficulty in constructing pop that was progressive, meticulously produced and built up like the studio architect that he is. The Alan Parsons Project recording an album in the period of the seventies this pristine when disco's big boom was steamrollering everything in its path was a pretty bold statement then. Because of Parsons' attention to detail overriding any urge to make music of the moment, "I Robot" still holds up almost 30 years later.

He sido lector fanatico de los cuentos de asimov, desde la saga de los robots, pasando por el imperio y terminando con la saga de las fundaciones, Isaac asimov desarrolló un mundo de ciencia ficción, que hace que las guerras de las galaxias parezca un cliché de un cuento de hadas espaciales. Este cd, inspirado no solo en el libro de yo robot, si no en los demas cuentos de asimov (por ejemplo Dont let it show relata el sentir del robot R. Daneel en fundacion y tierra). este disco, junto con el de Tales, son los que mas me gustan, debido a que son discos conceptuales basados en historias que me parecen espectaculares, y ademas, reflejan lo que sus autores escribieron. por eso cuando digo que este disco le hace justicia a los cuentos de asimov, me refiero al disparate filmatografico de holywood titulado con el mismo nombre.

Sin suda alguna, para mi, este es uno de los discos que mas me gusta de APP, (todas sus canciones). Estoy esprando que me llegue la nueva edicion que tiene nuevas canciones ineditas para seguir disfrutandode buena musica.

Progressive Rock Robot.......2007-03-28

Re-mastered release from 1977 with extra songs. The album is loosely based on the Isaac Asimov science fiction book "I, Robot". This album to an extent looks at questions and whether we may or may not be pre-programmed and act in a robotic fashion; also dangers of uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence. The I Robot album was released the same week as the movie Star Wars was released - a very fortuitous time. This remastered version celebrates the 30th anniversary of the original release. The most interesting of the extra songs is The Naked Robot - 10 minute medley of early stage mixes of instrumental pieces on the album. I thought the title song of the album, I Robot, should have been used in the movie I Robot, but Alan Parsons was never contacted about it. To me the song I Robot has a feel of mystery and intrigue. It is my favorite Alan Parsons Project song, and another song on the album, I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You, is my second favorite.

Clutch continues its seemingly endless string of awesome albums with the flawless Robot Hive/Exodus. Opening with deep-fried "The Incomparable Mr. Flannery" and closing with a Tom Waits-esqe cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Who's Been Talking?," Robot clearly demonstrates, once again, Clutch's remarkable musical diversity. Clutch's solid, trademark grooves have as much in common with Gov't Mule as they do with Black Sabbath and Grand Funk Railroad, and their ability to ooze instant classics such as the thunderous "Burning Beard" and the highly danceable "Gullah" is uncanny. Throughout, vocalist/guitarist Neil Fallon sings with a whisky-throated swagger that calls to mind the raw power of AC/DC's Bon Scott tempered with the R&B inflections of Grand Funk's Mark Farner. This blend is particularly evident on the foot-stomping "Never Be Moved." Neil might be the one hard rock vocalist capable of maneuvering with the ill ease of a hip-hop MC, crafting lyrics that are humorous and wise--one of the many gifts that help place Clutch in a class of its own, and a large part of what makes Robot Hive/Exodus a contemporary classic. --Jedd Beaudoin

Rockers must own this.......2007-05-30

If you like (Pepper Keenan's) C.O.C., or old Blackfoot, or Black Sabbath, you will love this record. Do not hesitiate,just buy it. They are unique; I simply mention those other bands as a reference point musically (although Clutch does not sound like any particular one of them, they truly created their own sound!). Chock full of incredible riffage and fantastic lyrics as usual. After long overlooking them, Clutch has become my new favorite band, thanks to their unflinching dedication and musicianship. If you do not know them but like hard rock with attitude and yes--humor, buy this and just pres PLAY. :headbanger:

I write this review in anticipation of their upcoming album in hopes of helping to convince even more people to give this awesome but woefully overlooked band a chance.

Can a band be heavy, hard rockin', clever, thoughtful, bluesy, and even a bit funky all at once. Absolutely!
This is what Clutch has evolved into and I fully anticipate even more positive evolution to come. This is a band that could at one time certainly be classified as metal that began to recognize their strengths and gravitated towards a different sound without compromising their music at all.

Robot Hive / Exodus continues that evolution in several ways, first the keyboard sounds are much more integrated into this album than before, second the bass playing and drumming are allowed to be even funkier and third the blues infuences are even more prominent this time (the last two tracks are straight ahead blues).
None of this is to say that these guys don't still rock hard. There are plenty of hard rockin' numbers to be found on this disk.

This album like the previous Blast tyrant could be classified as a concept album in that there is pretty much a consistant lyrical theme through the album. This time it involves a robot society and the various happenings within it (which could be interpreted several ways). The lyrics are as usual for Clutch very clever and thoughtful and many tracks have themes couched in what could be classified as religious terms.

In the end this record like pretty much all Clutch albums just plain rocks. It invites you to shout and/or sing along as well as think a little bit.
Give Clutch a try, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Clutch Writes Rock album?.......2006-07-30

Robot Hive/Exodus has eclipsed everything Clutch have ever done in my opinion. I am a metal fan who has always though to myself "Rock is Dead". This album has made me rethink that-there is a colorful resurgence of rock music in the "hard" music genres right now.

Of all the other bands making Hard Rock music, C! are the kings right now.

Musical Evolution.......2006-06-04

I have been listening to Clutch since I first heard of them back in 1996. Bands like this are very big in the MidWest, and I have to tell you that this is one of my favorite. I think one of the things that have most impressed me about Clutch is that they have evolved thier music without changing thier musical identity. I have seen them go from hard core "Death Metal" (Impetus) to what I can only call "Funk Rock" (Elephant Riders). On this album in particular, they have a good mix of bad-@$$ riffs and funky bass lines. 100011 is probably one of the best examples of this. Most of the bands that I listen to have bad-@$$ riffs and just mediocre lyrics, but Clutch is the execption. Not only do they sound good, but thier lyrics are fresh and smart (see Blast Tyrant, Easy with that Mic). Anyways, if you don't already own all of Clutches albums (which you probably don't if you are reading this review), start out with either this album or the self titled album and then go from there. If you do own all of Clutches other albums, this one is a difinite "must have". I like this album a lot better than Elephant Riders and Blast Tyrant, but not as much as TNSL and Clutch. A probable classic album in a decade.......2007-07-05

Giant Robot is an iconic album on many levels, and justifies the incredible hype and excitement Buckethead has slowly been earning over the last decade amongst musicians. This is one of the earliest releases by Buckethead (considering his solo career) and it is an absolute standout. For those unfamiliar with Buckethead, and wanting to start slow- you have probably been recommended this album here or Monsters and Robots. Giant Robot excels at being a great album to jump into and be enveloped by this world Buckethead has created.

The album itself consists of 19 tracks, 15-16 of them being solid pieces in and of themselves. it starts off with a short piece introducing the adventure you are about to participate and listen to, and leads directly into the rampant instrumental "Welcome to Bucketheadland." As far as the rest of the album goes, it remains linear and exciting, ramming from comical and twisted pieces into heavy guitar riffs which simply "rock." You may even find some to recognize in tracks "Pure Imagination" and Star Wars." A little pop culture intelligence should allow you to recognize these with ease.

Giant Robot succeeds indefinitely by allowing the listener to venture on a trip like no other. With Buckethead, unlike most artists, the album must be enjoyed in its entirety, and is organized in its order for a reason. Not to reiterate too much, but Giant Robot is borderline magical; allowing the listener to develop their own bond between the music and the ears.

A large portion of what I said is fairly cliche and oddly over exaggerated, but Giant Robot is an album which deserves to run laps around the rock artists tailing the mainstream today. In short, the musical verocity and viscious nature of Buckethead's work is stunning and beautiful, and nearly breathtaking.

With all that said, Giant Robot is not Buckethead's best work. I recommend this to those new to Buckethead and his material. Giant Robot is an excellent starting album, allowing the listener to jump in and enjoy the twisted comedy of this guitar virtuoso. Standouts include Binge and Grab (an 8 minute instrumental), Welcome to bucketheadland, and onions unleashed.

The album is unique, it is odd, and it will remain in your cd player for months to come- only to be replaced by a future album of Buckethead's.

It was good.......2007-02-28

first of all i heard some buckethead then i picked random buckethead cd and it was enter the chicken (TERRIBLE) then i got this cuz hes one of the best guitarists ever. I put 'er in and this annoying voice comes on. so anyways to cut to the chase i loved most of the songs but the voice annoys me to no end. The song welcome to bucketheadland is great untill "centipede woman" comes on and screams stupid crap. Binge and Grab is sooooo great it amazes me. I still think that thru all of the dialogue its still a great cd, and i would suggest it to someone who already likes buckethead

Amazing!!!.......2007-02-07

This is one of the first albums I bought on here, and i have to say i listened to it everyday for over 2 months, and i still now find myself going back and listening to it again and again, thats how good it really is. The song "Do you want some Slaw" is awesome. "Welcome to Bucketheadland" is an utter classic! Binge and Grab of course is a standard rock classic in my opinion when you tend to hear him play more of a creepy heavy metal on the same album: "Buckethead's Chamber of Horros", just an overall great album for people who love instrumental music with a little narrating in between.

A Buckethead classic and must have!.......2006-10-03

I won't rave too much since many others here have already said much to Buckethead's incredible abilities. It's true, he has staggering guitar skill, style range (literally every/any), and creativity all of which is even more jaw-dropping live - yep, I've seen him up very close and personal.

Giant Robot is (like most Buckethead discs) a themed album, hence the voice-overs and such which add depth to the story line. If one can allow their imagination to float a little, this album is HUGE FUN and a MUST HAVE for any Buckethead fans. Also a perfect album for Buckethead newbies, since he has such an enormous volume of work, which can be daunting for those trying to pick a disc of his to start with.

As tasty and edgy as Monsters and Robots . Buckethead will amaze you !!!This album made me a believer in Buckethead's "Guitar Godness" and I don't believe until I've been awed and folks I've been awed. Enjoy this solid end to end cd...I did....

A Still Relevant Classic.......2007-03-07

Yes, still relevant after all these years and well worth adding to your CD collection to replace that dusty LP. If you are too young to know what an LP is, then you should buy this disk to find out what good music is about. Alan Parsons is a giant in the music industry (albeit mostly as producer), and this is unquestionably the Project's finest hour.

I ROBOT IS ALAN PARSONS' BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE! .......2006-12-23

I will be writing a review on the legendary brilliant masterpiece CD album simply entitled "I ROBOT" by a very multi talented musician and his band who call themselves THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT! This album was originally released on vinyl/LP and cassette in 1977 on the Arista Records label. I purchased this album on CD in the ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING series format which is manufactured by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. The matrix or ID number is MFCD 804. If I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album, I will edit this review so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

In my opinion, "I ROBOT" is an outstanding album! If you love Pink Floyd's "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON," you will love "I ROBOT!" Listening to "I ROBOT," one can not help but think that this album sounds alot like a typical Pink Floyd trademark album. Despite that, This album was beautifully brilliantly made and well arranged and recorded. In a way, Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd have something in common with The Beatles. First of all, all three bands had the urge and desire to do something different with the music. Second, Alan Parsons was one of the main engineers during the recording of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band in 1967! Coincidently, Alan Parsons also engineered the recording "The Dark Side Of The Moon" in 1973! With all this great background experience, Parsons wanted to record a new album in the same direction The Beatles and Pink Floyd were heading with the intentions of further advancing and modifying the Digital recording technology process. With that in mind, Parsons did just that with "I ROBOT." Every single song track in this album is beautifully brilliantly made and well arranged and recorded.

I will list and briefly review all song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: (1.) "I Robot," (Outstanding! Brilliant! The Synthesizer age has begun! This is a great song with many great special sound effects. I love this song!) (2.) "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Another great song! I love it!) (3.) "Some Other Time," (Outstanding! Brilliant! A beautifully well arranged and recorded song. This song makes you feel like you are going into a different time and place! I love this song dearly!) (4.) "Breakdown," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Another great song!) (5.) "Don't Let It Show," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Breathtaking! Listen to the lyrics closely! These lyrics are so strong and powerful, we can all relate and apply them in our lives today! I love this song dearly!) (6.) "The Voice," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Another great song! I love it!) (7.) "Nucleus," (Outstanding! Brilliant! I love the way the synthesizers blend together in this song!) (8.) "Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Another beautifully recorded well arranged song! I love this song!) (9.) "Total Eclipse" (Outstanding! Brilliant! This song could have very well fitted into Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon!" I love this song dearly! What a great way to conclude this legendary album.) Every single song in this album is extraordinary and nothing less than outstanding!

As you can see, this is an album definitely worth purchasing that he or she should definitely own as part of his or her music collection. This album will definitely be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER!

In closing, Alan Parsons is not only a great innovator, but a great songwriter, musician and engineer! I don't think that we have seen the last of Alan Parsons yet. A Milestone For Seventies Rock..........2006-11-10

Alan Parsons' claim to fame is probably a tossup between producing Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, one of rock music's defining albums, and his own impressive catalog under the somewhat deceptive title of Alan Parsons Project (this was more than a bunch of session buddies getting together). Among the Project albums, I Robot is arguably the most original and fully realized. With an all star cast of talent, it couldn't help but be successful and stands as one of the more if not most significant rock albums of the late seventies. Every song is insidiously memorable and the album as a whole flows beautifully from beginning to end. Parsons followed this formula on subsequent albums with mixed results. For better or worse, they tended toward predictability even if they were still immensely enjoyable (The Turn of a Friendly Card and Eye in the Sky are excellent albums), but I Robot had the advantage of taking everyone by surprise as did Pink Floyd's masterpiece. On that level it's hard to separate the two. If you own one of them, chances are you own the other. If not, you should.

Vintage Alan Parsons. Still hits the spot.......2006-11-05

I had this on vinyl (it's still in the basement) and decided that the Alan Parsons Greatest Hits CD just didn't have every thing I wanted to hear. At this stage in my life, "Wouldn't Want to be like You" is an anthem toward corporate greed. Whether Alan Parsons intended it that way or not is superficial to me. Good clean recording. I'm probably going to go after all the other APP cds now. This was the god (thats God with a little g ) of studio groups in the late 70's to the 80's. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is that, like so many others that made the transition from vinyl, it's just to darned short a recording. Oh well...

What about the DVD audio ???.......2006-06-09

Ok, the question is: since this is only a STEREO DVD audio, would you need to upgrade, if you own the CD already?.
The answer is YES, for TWO reasons.
1) We haven't been favored with a REMASTERED version of the Parsons catalog (with the exception of the first record, 'Tales of mystery and imagination'). The GREATEST HITS package did improved the songs through remastering, but the individual CD's, like this one, are still as they were first released almost 20 years ago. So little attention has been put on them by the record company, that it was really a miracle that these records were released as CD's at all.
2) Even the remastered version wouldn't compete with the final product contained in this DVD Audio. Since it's a DVD, it's meant to bring a higher quality of sound than the CD could ever possible deliver.
This DVD is double sided. One side plays on DVD AUDIO players, the other on normal DVD players. If you don't know the difference, it's just that originally, the DVD AUDIO was designed as a special product to be played by specific players that could read a higher standard of audio, just like Super Audio CD's are designed to be played by special players.
To hear the quality of this DVD (or any other DVD audio available) at its best, you'd need a DVD AUDIO player. You'd notice that the improvement is amazing. The sound is clearer. The treble is polished, the bass and drums enhanced (David Patton must be very happy that his bass is more distinguishable here). The overall effect is a sharper and fuller sound that you won't ever be able to get from a CD.
If you own a conventional DVD player, the effect will be of a lesser quality, but still a great improvement over the conventional CD sound.
Both sides present PCM stereo sound (not encoded Dolby Digital) which ensures a purer, unaltered sound.
That it's not multi channel might be a put down for some, but I guess that would be only for those who haven't had a chance to ever hear how a stereo DVD sounds. Whatever, it's what's available now, until something better comes out, if ever.
Unlike other DVD Audio's available, the format of this one is very simple, not including videos or special materials, just a screen showing the song that it's being played.
The booklet includes the lyrics and original information of the album, spread in 8 colored pages, more faithful to the original LP album art. As simple as it is, it's more presentable than the one page booklet that originally accompanied the CD.
NOTE: in this DVD AUDIO format, "Turn of a friendly card" and "Eye in the sky" were also issued.

This bands' debut was one of my favorite records of that year, and after an initial wave of disappointment, this album has been growing on me. The tempo has slowed considerably, and the pace lends itself well to catchy hooks that stick in your head like peanut butter on the roof of a dog's mouth. Wait, the last time I mentioned peanut butter and my dogs' mouth I was talking about that day when I was real lonely and...nevermind.
The only gripe I have is w/ Alex's lyrics. You've heard of the hip-hop rhyming dictionary? Somebody must have published the indie/dance rock version, because some of the couplets here are truly cringe-worthy. "Hmmm...what rhymes with insane? Pain? Brilliant!!!"
A little more effort w/ the lyrics, and this would be a near perfect sophmore release.

Great, but play it more than once to notice........2006-12-01

I came on the bandwagon for this band a little late, and it took no time for me to learn I'd buy this album the day it came out. I was at first a bit disappointed, it was much more pop-like when compared to their earlier work. Still, if you give it more than one chance it grows on you, and songs such a Disconnected, Creeps Me Out, and Stick It To The Man are instant classics. The reason I only give it four stars is because I picked up the Search and Destroy EP at a show before hand and I find that album to be much better (I also think that album is close to perfect and any IMA Robot fan needs that in their collection). Still, listen to the samples on this page and if you have any slight interest buy the album. It only gets better.

This one sneaks up on you.......2006-11-13

Ima Robot has become one of my favorite bands with this album. I got started with them on their last album with songs like Scream and Alive And I purchased Monument to the Masses becuase I thought that Creeps Me Out was a fun song. But this is one of those great albums where the song you baught it for isn't your favorite for long. After I had this CD in my car for few days I realized I was hooked. Chip Off The Block is probably my favorite track. While the sound might be a little bit 80's for some tastes Ima Robot pulls it off well. Monument to the Masses rocks with only 1 or 2 songs that I don't care for all that much, and even those are alright. If you've heard Creeps Me Out and liked it, give this album a try!

Ima Robot continues to surprise and delight.......2006-10-05

I have been a Ima Robot fan since I heard them some odd years ago, and I've been a loyal follower and listener since. However, I noticed a re-occuring trend: either people love them or they hate them, there really is no middle ground. Their self-titled debute album in 2003 exposed the masses to Ima Robot, and their follow-up "Monument To The Masses" is a superb sequel.

The first 3 tracks, 'Disconnected', 'Creeps Me Out', and 'Cool Cool Universe' really set the tone for the album, but doesnt set the standard, since tracks like 'Happy Annie' and 'Lovers in Captivity' push towards the more abstract side. Tracks like 'The Beat' and 'Dangerous Life' remind veteran Ima Robot fans of the signature sound that got them hooked on the band in the first place. There isn't a dull moment amongst the 12 tracks. My personal favorite on the album is 'What Comes Tomorrow'.

Ultimately, "Monument to the Masses" really shows how Ima Robot has matured as a band. There are subtle things on this album that a trained ear can pick up, such as the use of shaker percussions on alot of the tracks, something different from the debute album 3 years ago. David Blendeth was the head producer on this album (different from Josh Abraham on the debute album), so obviously a new sound was going to be brought to the table. The lyrics on "Monument To The Masses" also possess more political undertones, which again is either a turn-on or turn-off for the listeners, but I truthfully dig it.

Loyal fans of Ima Robot can aruge some of their best stuff is the 'lesser-known' work, such as the PrinceHouse Records release "Search And Destroy E.P" (which includes stellar tracks such as 'Paint The Town Red', 'Tumbling Down', 'Good Girl'), or the B-Sides (such as 'STD Dance', 'I'm Your Bitch', 'The Beat Goes On' ect)...but the title of "Monument to the Masses" says it all. Ima Robot pulls off cross-over appeal, something fans of both the electro/rock clash movement (that seems to be present in both LA {Ima Robot's hometown} and the UK oddly enough) and fans of the present emo/punk/pop movement can appreciate. You can only push the envelope so far musically before its becomes a turn-off on either end of the spectrum, and Ima Robot falls right in the middle.

Some side notes: members of the band, such as the keyboardist/bass player Filip Nikolic and guitarist Timmy The Terror have side-projects in which they produce electro dance/rock music that has gained popularity internationally on the dancefloors under the pseudonym of "The Hammers". The former bass player Justin Meldal-Johnsen (who is the bass player for Beck and is also a producer/song-writer/session musician for numerous musical groups: Macy Grey, Garbage, Tori Amos, ect) was involved with the production of "Monument to the Masses", but is no longer touring with the group.

This album is a must own, not only for fans of Ima Robot, but also for anybody who claims to be a fan of the current punk/pop movement that is dominating the radiowaves and MTV.

This to me is even better than there self titled album. Alex voice sounds 100% better and the lyrics are amazing. This is a must have for all Ima fans!!! Go get it!!!!!

With music that sounds like it was intricately recorded in an abandoned buliding, and vocals that rarely go above a whipser, how can one go wrong? You can't. When it comes to this particular brand of indie rock, 'songs about leaving' triumphs like no other. Think of a less-upbeat christie front drive combined with the American analog set with some healthy Low and Slowdive influences mixed in. But this record is still so much more.

This is a beautiful, melancholic album that never gets too wimpy or twee. It is fantastic. The melodies, the lyrics and the harmonies are all top-notch. There is plenty of piano and strings yet these instruments never overwhelm the songs. If you like this album then you may like:

few weeks ago i was looking for really depressive music,i told people i was looking for something with the dark mood of bright eyes and musical beauty of damien rice,and they just told me to listen carissa's wierd's "songs about leaving"

And i did..At first besides feeling scattered, the songs all seemed to be familiar.To be honest carissa's wierd will not give you any new technics or some great discovery in the name of music..But it didnt take much time for some tracks to come to the surface and take place in my mind.Untill then,i listen to this album each day , and always with tears in my eyes..

i dont have a real opinion about the other albums of the band yet but now i've listened this one enough to talk about it. Songs about leaving carries every emotion based on leaving, the elegy for someone you love who is no longer with you ("absance only made our hearts grow colder..where's your sweet heart who shelters it from the cold now?..")the feeling of loving someone but knowing you can no longer be with them cos they lack love for you(i'll make you proud just wont be around to see yr face or the weird,aching taste of leaving someone you will always love but no longer have desire or care about (i hope you have a coat to keep you warm,warmer then the last times we spoke,i hope nothing will ever remind you of me)or just basicly the unbearable,respectworthy sorrow of being alone or away

Songs about leaving is sure to spread a sweet taste of sorrow and solitude to anyone who has a heart,and will make those who are in situations like these songs cry their eyes out.dont get me wrong,it will not make you feel bad or think about the world,it will just share and ease your pain you are experiencing or just remind it to you for your own good.

I first heard of Carissa's Wierd when a friend in Seattle sent me their second CD, You Should Be At Home Here. I instantly fell in love with the band. Like others, I can't believe they aren't bigger. I highly recommend to anybody who likes this CD, also try to find their first two. Ugly But Honest, and the one mentioned above. You'll be very glad that you did!!!

Ima Robot's great self titled cd came out approx 3 years ago. And they were great live. Since then, a number of the band members left, and that's not an improvement.

Saw them live last night, and I gotta tell you, they had such a crappy attitude - it really sucked. They played the old songs with such a lack of enthusiasm it was embarassing. The new stuff is not so great either, a bit too much rappy bs from Alex.

Refreshing_Re-defining_Simply Amazing.......2006-01-21

With the whole "emo"/punk rock movement on everybodies lips (i.e. mega-bands like 'My Chemical Romance' and 'Fallout Boy' to name a few) it is easy to see how numerous similar bands can emerge out of mediocracy and over-saturate the radio waves with mass produced music while landing guest spots on MTV's 'Total Request Live' performing infront of screaming 13 year old girls.

"Ima Robot" is one of those bands that transends and re-defines the genre. Though their self-titled album has been released over 2 years ago, it is a must own for all music lovers, whether you are part of the "scene" or not. The stand-out song on the album is "Scream" which was featured in the "Queer As Folk" soundtrack. The vocals of Alex Ebert give shades of bands like "Hot Hot Heat", but the accompaniment of pseudo New Age sound combinded with the punk guitar riffs & musical construction leave "Ima Robot" in a class all on its own. My personal favorites on the album are "Dirty Life", "A is for Action", and "Lets Talk Turkey". This album goes smoothly from track to track, and dont be surprised if you have the CD playing on loop.

On a side note, "Ima Robot"'s new album should be out this year (2006), on Capitol Records. Something to look forward to, whether you are a fan of the band, fan of the whole "emo"/punk rock genre, or just somebody who looks forward to CD releases.

Well, the first time I heard this cd was from my friend, who also saw them at the Warped Tour. I fell in love with the band and it has definitely become my favorite cd in my extensive collection. From the electronic twist to the vocals that will blow you away, every song on the cd leaves you hanging on for more. The only problem I can find with this album, now I compare everything else that is new to them, and thats a hard thing to beat. So why listen to something else when you can have IMA ROBOT?! If there is a better new band out there, please let me know.

My best soundtrack of all time. I have more than 8 soundtracks and this is the only one I play. I would say my favorites are #3 #5 #7 #11 #12 #1 and #18. Even though I listen to all of them, those songs are my favorites. It is also one of my newest cds that I have. I would recommend this CD to every kids that LIKED Spy Kids 3-D.

I am afraid of the Carissa's Wierd 'empire' beginning to resemble the whole Jeff Buckley situation. Keep sprewing out as much unreleased/live stuff as possible, no matter how bad or how poorly recorded (see Jeff Buckley - "Mystery White Boy"). Keep giving the fans more, as much as possible, to keep the memory of this amazing band alive. I really hope this does not happen with Carissa's.

Needless to say, this is a wonderful collection of live stuff (namely "Brooke Daniels' Tiny Broken Fingers" and "September"). They portray the band as is, and perfectly depict the amateur perfection that makes Carissa's Wierd the best indie band to exist today. The new tracks are wonderful - "Die" is a total gem, and perhaps the most rewarding track on the album.

This recording is essential for existing fans, but newcomers should move to other releases, with "Songs about Leaving" being the most accessible. Although Sad Robot plans to reissue "Ugly but Honest" and "You should be at home here", who knows when this will happen. Random original copies pop up on EBay once in a while but go for about $80US. Carissa's Wierd is a band that should NEVER be overlooked by anyone who's tastes are based in the ever-growing category that is indie rock. They are the best band you have not heard.

A buddy of mine played this for me when it came out a few years ago, and I've been reciting the lyrics since. James K. gets real with his childlike yet lewd rhymes and throws in a dash of "catchy tune" for good measure. The most-played song on the college stations is obviously the title track; but I guarantee that as good as "Monkey versus Robot" is, that's neither the best song nor the best part of the album! The comic insert alone is worth buying this album... If you don't think so, you can "punch the clock!"

Good, funny stuff.......2002-04-23

This is one of the few "funny" CDs that never loses it's appeal to me. You can actually listen to it after you have stopped being so amused by the lyrics & think "Wow! This is a really catchy, heartfelt song (Hey, the man sounds convincing when he sings about Pizza Rockets)!" Basically, if you could package sheer, unadulterated giddyness onto an album, it would be James Kochalka Superstar's Monkey vs. Robot.

You are not worthy..........2002-01-03

James Kolchaka is indeed a superstar, and if you don't know, you had better ask somebody. You may have seen his art (such as his short "Hulk vs. the rainstorm" for Marvel comics, but to get the full effect of JKS, you need to listen to his music.
While it would be foolhardy to say that this is one of the greatest albums ever (considering the amount of time left, in the grand scale of things) it's definitely better than anything you currently own.
The CD opens with "Bad Astronaut" and hilarity ensues. The title track and "Hockey Monkey" are also instant faves. The only bad thing about this album is that once people begin to hear about it, people will buy it, and then JKS will wind up like Nirvana... over-played, under-appreciated, and most likely dead. Do James and the rest of the world a favor, and stay away from this album. I never want to have to utter the phrase, "James Kochalka was so much better before he sold out." Because after that, it's just a hop, skip and a jump to him opening for Hall & Oates at the County Fair.
Go buy the new Britney Spears album instead. I hear it rocks.

I heard the title song on WREK in Atlanta and thought it was a great song- short, rockin'- hilarious if in the mood for it. I will definitely buy this (...).

I play guitar on this album, and I'm damn proud of it. It might be the only CD I've ever played on that I still listen to. I did a really good job on the title track. I can die happy knowing I at least played guitar well on something as good as "Monkey vs. Robot". It's not a perfect album, though...things go a little downhill after "Put Down the Gun", with the bogus 'extra tracks' and all. But up until then I can promise you it's a pretty flawless 25 minutes of thoughtful and stupid rock beauty. Well, I'm off to band practice now. Buy this CD!
